Samsung will not offer ICS update for SGW.
The only way to get ICS on SGW is by flashing custom roms (CM9 and other CM9-based roms).

Follow this link below for how to install the CM9, and please use the search box first before you decided to creating a new thread...

【GUIDE】[ROM Transplant ]2nd-boot rom with stock kernel support (updated)
【Before the guide】
Hi, it is my first time to write here and share my methods with you guys. So please show me your encouragements.
【What am I doing】
The reason why I want to transplant the kernel on defy is, I am now studying the multiboot feature. My main system is stock 2.3.6 so the 2nd-init rom like Quarx CM10 4.1.2, AOKP 4.1.2, new SlimBean, etc. cannot boot. ALTHOUGH you can directly change some older roms' kernel.
【Aim】
NOW with this method you can get your 2nd-boot ROM work on stock kernel as well.
【Step】
Now follows the method. You'll make this manually on your PC or Android devices. TAKE AOKP FOR EXAMPLE
【Simple-transplant】
1.Extract an older ROM of 4.1.1 that can boot on stock kernel. Copy /system/app, /system/framework , /lib/libandroid-runtime.so and prepare to transplant.
2.Extract 2nd-init ROM of 4.1.2 AOKP .
3.Copy files copied above to 4.1.2 's folder and replace those three parts.
4.CHECK IF THE BOOTMENU FOLDER'S FILES ARE THE SAME AS 4.1.1, OR you won't have your multiboot.
5.Compress and sign your ROM, Enjoy!
(Sign your rom using signapk or other tools that can be found in the forum. IF you are dong this using your PHONE, Zipsigner2.apk is recommended.)
【Advanced-transplant】
-for the brave, can keep more new features of original 4.1.2 and get multiboot compatible.
TO BE UPDATE' NOT FINISHED
【Help】
Any Question you can leave message below or PM me. You can also find me on bbs . mfunz .com @ twsk

well well well, does anybody know Quarx's 4.2?
Sent from my IdeaTab A1107 using xda app-developers app
So this way we can downgrade the new custom kernel found in 2nd boot CM9/10 roms, to older stock kernel, to get multiboot compatibility. But isn't the custom kernel the main feature and advantage of 2ndboot builds?
Sent from my Defy green lense using xda-developers app
If you insist on using a more stable main system and multiboot feature, you cannot use 2nd boot kernel, since it doesn't work on stock ROM.
Sent from my DEFY using xda app-developers app
Right. By this way you may lose some of the features of 2nd boot kernel but NOT ALL. Well, because i am using stock China edition as my main system . It is more powerful in video playing, like playing RMVB films using HW. But I can try the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean because of the kernel. And Q's kernel still has bugs, therefore i share this method to help those in need.
Sent from my DEFY using xda app-developers app
Yes, video playback is definitely better on GB, as the HW decoder doesn't work on JB! I would love to see GB roms with custom kernel, to see how we could improve the already outstanding performance
Sent from my Defy green lense using xda-developers app
Haha, sure , If custom kernel can work on stock GB, all problems will be solved.

If you're looking for a great AOSP and up-to-date features you should try KXP and Fusion Kernel.
KXP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859518
Fusion here (wifi modules are inside dthe zip file): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926299

Thank u very much....

Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
ktg works for ICS stock and other roms that are based on stock.
maybe he confused with the AOKP rom based on CM10.
and what aokp rom based on ics 4.0.4 you will install? I do not know.
I mean this Rom :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609516

ok friend?
I looked at the rom you mentioned and as I said I really did not know. It is based on CM9, CM9 soon only a kernel will work. The kernel KTG I said before will not work in this rom. The zip of the rom already comes with a kernel, but I suppose you want a better kernel but, as you can check, developers are focused on developing for CM10 and stock, then there is not much choice. I even use the rom AOKP but based on CM10 with the FUSION kernel and works very well, I have no complaints. Give it a try. Good luck

Ktoonsez KT747 will work on TW ICS. I'm using it on AOKP 4.2.1 and it is stellar. You can find it in the original android development section.
what's the different between TW and ICS because there is 2 kernels over there one for TW and one for ICS?
THANKS
TW is if your on stock and still use touchwiz. ICS is if you're rooted and on an AOSP based ROM such as CM or AOKP.
And if i'm stock ics rooted?

Then use the TW version. If you are to flash a new ROM, you'll need to re flash the kernel. Additionally, if you flash an AOSP ROM, be sure to flash the AOSP variant.

The most stable JB build is CM10.1 from Erikcas. I suggest to use it.
Is there any way to get ICS stock on r800x? I saw a lot of stock based ROMs but they were all only gsm. I don't care if service works just want a booting ROM. I know r800x didn't get ICS beta but are there any that work or have been ported. Thanks

rom: cm9 official

You can already install ics. You just need to flash Doom's ics beta kernel then flash rom via CWM. The install process is the same as installing any custom roms into your device. You wont get phone service btw.

Try using whatever kernel you want, what is very important is that flash the correct FTF. Try using an R800x FTF and flash any kernel and ROM. Also you can try using a CDMA Neo L ICS Firmware (If there's any) and flashing it without the kernel, just flash an ICS Xperia Play kernel...
sadly there is no cdma version of neo l i think because i couldnt find one. Thanks anyway. (already used my 8 for today but ill thank you tomorrow. its free so why not )

hey what's a good bloat ware removal app or is there a good gaming ics ROM that has lots of storage space
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
A good bloatware removal app would be titanium backup, 'cause it let you choose which software to uninstall... An ICS ROM that is almost a clean rom, would be the Hybrid ROM by Krisdee...
