Well I have been looking around on my own, but really I can't make heads or tails out of any of the various Overclocking apps. I am looking for what the best overclocking app (in your personal opinion/experience is). As far as firmware goes I have;
Firmware - 4.1.2
CyanogenMod Version - 10-20121012-NIGHTLY-epicmtd
Build Number - cm_epicmtd_userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng..20121011.232018 test-keys
Kernal Version - 4.0.42-g5b9b6e6 [email protected] #1 Thu Oct 11 23:28:39 PDT 2012
Sorry if this is more information than needed, but it has been a while since I have messed with an Android, and better to have too much info than not enough.
Thanks for any/all help.

You'll also need to install a kernel that supports OC. I don't think the stock CM10 kernel supports OC.

If you want to try the kernels by the devs that are working on the ns4g modems I know they have a few options from nitest to stock cm and the other simply something kernel (sorry forgot the name they all work great and just be aware overclocking does have its challenges but it has some killer benefits for sure too at the speed and responsiveness. I suggest stick around 1200-1300 but see what feels right to you. Good luck man!

It does to a degree I believe. Not anywhere around the old cm9 1200 they brought that back to 1000 stock but you can raise the min up from 100-1000. I would stick around 200 or 400 possibly 800 absolute max. It can be set to different profiles conservative, performance ect

Stock cm10 does not support overclocking to any degree... the only kernel that supports overclocking for cm10 is the nitest kernel, but it still has some bugs to be worked out, so unless you're an experienced user I recommend stocking with stock cm10 and not worry about oc until/if epic cm team implements it into the stock kernel....

Well it is not so much that I am a noob as it is that I have just not been around for a while. When I broke my last Evo (in July '11) I did not have the cash to buy a new Smartphone so I had been using just a Samsung Restore up until last Monday when I could not take it anymore and bought the Epic.
I will look into the nitest kernel though, thanks for the heads up buddy!

:thumbup: just remember to post issues on the nitest thread and not the cm10 thread....
So what is the best method to overclock now? I downloaded the NStools that was mentioned, however it will only let me go as high as 1GHz, which I could already do within CM10 itself, so I hardly see a point to that.
I just want to be able to run at a max of 1.2GHz.

"3.0.46-CM10-nitest-nr-g716d7f6

Sorry for being such a pain on this, just would rather do it once and do it right rather than keep having to restore or reflash stuff.
You may need to enable the oc frequencies... I would post in the nitest thread and see if there is anything you need to do to enable oc....

Well, I have been trying to use Tegrak since they said it was updated for this phone. I kept getting error messages but I think they did another update. You can overclock to 1.452. Anything above and you need the paid version. I am on the stock kernel now. If this is already known, I apologize. I haven't seen it mentioned. I can imagine what 1.6 would look like. yup. Although this thing is such a beast I dont see a need to OC it, UV to save battery, yes I actually have mine underclocked to 1.1ghz and undervolted -50 across the board and I notice no dip in performance so far, this thing is still buttery smooth and fast

to chime in, I know most kernels with UV built in usually do -50, so if you did a -50 across the board you should be ok. Some speeds you can get away with more but if you UV too much it will lock up. I think the higher speeds you can actually UV a **little** more than -50, maybe -75 but it really depends on your chip
I really wonder how they do this on the stock kernel. It's the first I've seen that will allow you to OC/UV without a custom kernel..
Oh and OP: I think you should add more to the thread title.. like "Tegrak - Overclock/Undervolt on stock kernel!!!" I think it would get a lot more hits

Yeah, underclocking can help on the already great battery life and if you are a speed demon, this app does that as well. I usually just test to see if I got a strong phone or not.

hehe like I said in on of the other posts. If you change the thread title I'm sure it will get a lot more hits. If people see "Tegrak: Overclock/Undervolt stock kernel" They would click faster than if they just see "Tegrak" just a suggestion though
root?
I apologize in advanced if this has commented anywhere else.
My guess is this requires root, and that the comments about stock kernel are in regards to root + stock kernel.
Just to keep the doubts out, does this require root?
Again, I apologize if this is said in advanced. Probably checking the app reqs would answer this question. Just commenting it as it may prove useful for me and for others as well.

I would LOVE to give this Tegrak thingy a try but I am somewhat confused on what needs to be downloaded and installed.
I am currently on the following:
ROM = midNIGHT 2.0
Kernel = Bubby's [ACS][KERNEL] CWM 5.0.2.3 with sd/internal storage mounted
Mods = Crawrj's AIO mod
Now, when I search for Tegrak on the market, I get the following:
Tegrak Kernel - Free
Tegrak Overclock - Free
Tegrak Overclock Ultimate - $2.34
Tegrak Kernel Donation - $3.73
Which files do I need to download and install? Is it an app? Do I need to flash anything via Odin/CWM?
The apps on the Market really don't say much as to how to properly go about installing this.
I just need to know what I need to do so I can overclock and mess around with the voltages. Thanks in advance.

To mess with the voltages you need the paid version. I have Tegrak Overclock Ultimate. you dont need to flash anything but it says it wont work with a custom kernel, only the stock kernel.

@zedomax, I installed Tegrak Overclock and after installing and giving it root privileges, I get a "Failed to run insmod!" error everytime I try to load the overclock module. I guess midNIGHT ROM is not compatible with Tegrak? I will be forced to flash a stock, rooted ROM like the one supplied by crawrj with his Stock EG30 Deodexed with Root/Busybox 1.18.4 ROM?

Is stock ROM official ICS update or GB?
I got this phone 2 months and bounced around between Darkside, stock ICS rooted, and AOKP. I've flashed Eugene's streamlined kernel to AOKP. And I think that's where I'm staying. I love the ui changes and inbuilt cpu control. And with Groove IP I can do without native wifi calling. My advice is to try them each for a few days, even ones I didn't mention like cm9, and decide what fits your needs.

That's because 0623-03 IS Build 39, assuming you are referring to Whitehawkx's AOKP. Hercules is officially supported by Team Kang now, so you can get Build 40 from here:

I'm using Darkside TLLE4.V1 and the 3.0.8-perf-T989DTTLE4-CL579656 kernel. Way good. One question though: I come the cpu is not overclockable over 1.5 ? I thought this kernel was open to overclocking, I would like to boost it up to 1.8. Any ideas?

it looks like there are a bunch of darkside roms/kernels. which one are you using?
This may have been addressed before but for some reason I can not find an answer. I have tried AOKP and CM9 and I am having problems with the external SD card not being recognized by several apps (beyondpod is the main one). There is a setting for using the external only but then most of my games (EA titles) will not open. Is there anything that can be done? I am currently using Chicago rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602332 and it seems to work correctly but I would like to start using the CM9 nightly builds. Thanks in advance.

From OP:
"Based originally off of the Sprint JB Source, updated with a few items from the VZW JB release."
Thanks Eaglerazor! Nice to see Ziggys work again. He had the best kernel for the HTC TBOLT.
Is there way to enable FastCharging?

That doesn't indicate if its CM or TW. CM kernels are based on source from Samsung same as TW. OP should be updated to indicate TW-based kernel which I see has been done.

Agreed :good:
I just done some benchmark tests and they are pretty good in terms stock or ktoonsez kernel ( I've tried few configs about KT, but nothing like this one ) So the results are:
Quadrant: 6653
AnTuTu: 10469
Vellamo: Metal 627, HTML5 1889
20mins (on screen) doing benchmarks 5% battery
EDIT: @eaglerazor123 can you add date to the topic? It is easier to check for newer versions
And to ask again is it possible to ON the Fast Charging? In the very first post you say it is off by default so it means it can be enabled?
What app is like ktweaker that I can use with this kernel?

Okay folks, no fancy graphics or information here. Searching this site will tell you any of the generic information you may be interested in. I am not going to clutter up things any more than I normally do. Which is already enough.
I need to make something very clear here. I'm sure it's just me, but I feel like I need to say it out loud, rather than just leaving it in my source. At least 90% of what I give you is other peoples original work, modified by me to run on whatever device I have. I don't do it to look smart, or be important, I do it 9 times out of 10 because there isn't something already out there. The vast majority of the options I give you are from amazing coders like show-p1948 and faux123. There are random snippets from others too. I just wanted to make that clear. If you ever wanna know exactly who did something I put into a kernel, go look at the source. If I cannot get the original commit, with them as author, they are listed in the comment. If nobody is there but me, I actually did it.
So, here you go:

Feel free to let me know how it does. I kinda built it last night before I had the tab. It seems good to me, but I'm not as hard on things as others can be.

Thank you very much.
Re: [KERNEL][GT-N8013]Cubed Kernel 1.0.1[02.14.03]Initial Build
Well played, sir. I have a sexy smooth tablet that is actually stable now. I did have to do a full wipe due to it freezing and starting over, even after clearing cache/dalvik/fix permissions. It was totally worth it though, thank you for your hard work!
