I was rooted but I went back to stock, reset the counter, got the special sim and it does not work for me. I get this error:
'Phone Not Supported'
'This phone dies not meet requirements to run the Isis Wallet. More details can be found via the "i" button above. Please contact your wireless service provider to learn how to enable the Isis Wallet on your phone. You may use the uninstall button below to remove the application.'
When I click on the "i", I see:
'Phone Requirements'
'The Isis Wallet only works with phones that support and contain both a Secure Element and Near-Field Communications (NFC). For security reasons, the Isis Wallet will not operate on phones where unusual root access privileges have been set within the phone's operating system.
The Isis Wallet will automatically detect these capabilities and conditions at startup. If your phone is not compatible, you will not be able to run the Isis Wallet, and should contact your wireless service provider about acquiring a compatible phone.'
I'm thinking that I won't be able to use it even though I went back to stock and reset by flash counter all while having the correct sim.
A word of caution if you want to use Isis.

Interesting, my phone did an update today and now Isis works. Previously, when I tried doing updates it told me there were none available. I'm on 4.0.4. Looks like I was probably just a bit behind.

Have sprint locate via MSID or serial number. unless if the phone is off it won't work. you can only have track them a phone that is on your account, but since its your phone it won't be a problem.
If your still signed in to your account on the phone. Go to the play store on a PC and install "plan b" to the lost phone. Obviously if the phone has been wiped this won't work.

for Android
Supported on versions 2.3 through 4.2,
including Kindle Fire, CyanogenMod, and Intel.
While Android itself is "open", the devices that run it often aren't. Before installing Substrate, you will first need to get root access on your device.
Depending on which device you have, and which version of Android, this process differs; we therefore can't provide a simple recommendation.
Once you have root, you will need to install our APK, run the application, click Install, and grant Superuser access to Substrate when prompted.
Interesting

@jd14771: In the play store description it says:
Users should keep in mind that Substrate includes a safety feature: by holding down the volume-up button on your device you can disable Substrate while it is attempting to load these modifications (such as while it is turning on and starting); this will give you an opportunity to use Google Play to uninstall things that might be broken.

I noticed there's a new version of the wallet app, and from the looks of it, the app itself loads on more devices now because Google is using it for more than just tap and pay. Problem is I don't know if this affects the workaround to get the old versions working (changing the build.prop and using the xposed module)

I would assume you could still install it with the mod/workaround just like older versions for NFC support.

The new T-Mobile SIM cards with the chips in them are only for ISIS. As far as making a "mobile" payment? No. We can only send payment via email with the app. I'm sure they have plans for more integration with other services and other payment methods in the future. It seems to me that if you can send money via email, you should be able to use NFC just like PayPal does, but I guess that's up to Google.

Tmobile atnt and verizon are backing isis, an upcoming competitor to google wallet. So they have not allowed it on our phones..
To clarify, with the new app you no longer need a patched apk or xposed mod. You do need the libs in the flashable zip. You also need to do the app setup while your build.prop is the nexus or sprint values. So some of you have to redo the setup with a modified build.prop (clear data or reinstall to redo the setup)

This worked for me as well. It didn't give me an option to "tap and pay," using the Sprint build.prop. I had cleared Wallet data and reboot but nothing. When I switched to the Galaxy Nexus build.prop, once I reset Wallet and rebooted, I was able to get wallet going, my pin was already attached to my email, which Wallet gave me an option to choose from.
From there, I was able to set-up tap and pay and pick my default payment of choice.
I also noticed a much more lenient "lock" time for Wallet: immediate, 15 minutes, 1 day. I guess if you're running a custom ROM, be sure you don't select "screen on, locked" option for NFC.
I haven't had a chance to use it, as I'm already home for the night, so I'll be testing tomorrow and reporting back.
Has any of you Wallet users been having problems before this new update? Mine suddenly stopped working at CVS and McDonalds, but I can still read and write NFC tags.
I too was missing the tap to pay section after the latest update.
To get it back I uninstalled the latest update then rebooted. Upon reboot the original Google Wallet wouldn't activate.
I then changed the build.prop to the settings in the thread on how to initially install it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383251
ro.product.device=maguro
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
I rebooted and Google Wallet activated. I then went into the play store and let Google Wallet update itself. I ran it to verify that I could see the tap to pay section then modified the build.prop back to the defaults for the Tmobile SG4. and rebooted.
ro.product.device=jfltetmo
ro.product.model=SGH-M919
ro.product.name=jfltetmo
After this reboot I can still see the tap to pay in the latest version from the app store. I will test it at a 7-11 where I have used Google Wallet previously tomorrow but am hopeful it will work properly.
Hope this helps someone else.

When your phone is rooted, it knows, and so do the apps. That's why you cannot install isis wallet if your phone is rooted. In the about section in settings, it says if the device is rooted. If it says modified then it is rooted and any app can probably see that. Doesn't mean that tmobile knows it is, but the app does, and it may, or may not report this back to them.

it seems more likely the purchase fees will be for the added features. Allcast is the perfect example. It's a CM app on the app store that has a time limit unless you pay money. That's their future. I can easily imagine a CM rom that is basically AOSP, and a collection of appstore apps that you have to pay money for to get the "Full CM experience". Of course, if you buy a CM phone (like the oppo n1), you'd get all those for free.
Or they just collect your data and sell it on their own kinda like Google
