Anyone knows what is the usage of blobs folder in the clockworkmod folder? It takes a bit of size on the sdcard. Is it fine if i delete it?

is the backup
with cwm6 backup makes 2 folders: backup for the "index" files and blobs for the complete backup with other subfolders and files with unusual name
someone has told to me that CWM5 creates a backup with "normal" file not as in the CWM6.... I don't know it is true but I suggest you dont' delete or rename folders and files in clockworkmod folder you can damage your nandroid forever because it changes MD5 sum of backup and recovery it will be not possible "error md5 sum"
i think blobs is backup file of data. if we see CWM 5 use .tar format to save its files, but in CWM 6 it use .dup files. imo , that .dup files will call data from the blobs folder . just IMO
I prefer CWM5. CWM6 made a big size backup and it takes times to restore/backup ROM.
if you want to make a nandroid backup without "blobs" folder...just boot to cwm6 then select option "backup and restore >> choose backup format" change the format to "tar"..."dup" format as a default backup format that use the blobs folder contain data of your backup...tQ

Actually, in the long run, the dup method should consume less space, because CWM6 stores duplicate blocks only once. But that assumes that you do nandroid backups religiously.
Since most of us perform nandroid backups only before flashing a new ROM, we never actually realize the dup format's benefits.

deleting the blobs folder will destroy your nandroid bckup..
however,if you choose to delete a nandroid backup, for a newer one,try deleting unused backup data from cwm..that should wipe clean the unused data in your blobs folder, thereby freeing some space..

you can delete it directly from /mnt/external_sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, then choose your backup you want to delete..
anyways, i am referring to "free unused backup data" from cwm (boot to cwm, backup and restore).
opt to free backup data every after you delete a nandroid backup..
in doing so, it will wipe some unused blobs, thereby freeing space..
this i do..

Hi! I am new to making Nadroid backups. Yesterday, I could've swore my /blobs folder was about 3GB. Today, when I made another Nandroid and it was at 6GB.
I'm on the dedup method, so my /blobs folder shouldn't be increasing. I also tried "free unused backup data" and still at 6GB.
Here's my storage usage, attached. Am I in the right ballpark or is something odd here?
P.S. If anyone has a Nandroid backup management system, let me know! I keep jumping between CWM Recovery to make them and then to Android to fix all the things CWM Recovery does wrong (like the date-for-the-file-name; it's not 1970 and the month/day/time are all incorrect) and can't do (like viewing the backups, renaming the backups, uploading the backups to cloud storage).
My blobs folder at one point was at 4gig. I deleted all my backups except for two. Went into cwm and selected free space under backup/restore and brought it down to 1.01gig.
Mind you the only backup I care about (rooted, stock with TW) is 1.8gig but I have that on external and on my computer just in case.

Hmmm...that may be it: this new backup required new blobs for whatever reason. Let me figure out a way to restore SystemUI and SecSettings to stock and then maybe delete those early backups...
How much space have you used,by chance, on the internal SD card?
~Ibrahim~
the blobs folder continues to grow with each backup. the only time it would decrease is you delete a backup then clear unused data after booting to recovery.
this blobs folder will drive your media scanner CRAZY.
my suggestion is to boot into recovery, set the backup type to .tar rather than the default .dup. This unfortunately will cause each backup to take up approx 1.5g, but that is an incredible reduction in indvidual files for the media scanner to scan. but, thats what ext sd cards are for
after making this change, if you have .dup backups you want to convert to .tar, you will have to restore each then backup again.

YES. YES. THAT'S THE OTHER ISSUE! These things are all related! My Media scanner, out of *nowhere*, exploded to 50% battery usage.
Going to *.tar, then. Thank you hugely.

To be honest the huge blobs folder you are stuck with using cwm is exactly why I switched to twrp recovery and I was a long time user and big fan of cwm for a long time. But the blobs really screwed that up for me anyway. Twrp works great and is better in my opinion ...

I just updated cwm and noticed that the default is now .tar
Good call from Koush, then. They're a good idea, but executed poorly.
But, CWM has problems for me beyond blobs: it mislabels backups without a way to rename in CWM, somehow mismatched the MD5 of my backups (until I renamed them to "backup" ), and doesn't seem to compress backups = all fixed in TWRP.
Battery life is fixed!
hi,
I have galaxy nexus phone and clockwork recovery mod . I am taking the backup / or the nandroid backup . When I click on the restore backup I can see the the backups . But using ES Explorer , i cannot see the backups in any of the locations.
1.clockword/backup - dont have the folder
2. /EMMC/BMMC/ - I cant find this folder at all
3./data/media - its empty
4. /mnt/shell/emulated/ - its empty
What am I missing ?? Are the folders possibly hidden . Nothing worked in the soultions which was already posted. Please let me know where I am not looking
Because of android 4.2.2 they have to put the backups in some weird place but to manage them you have to use the actual ROM manager app and hit manage backups then you can manage/delete backups

If /data/media is empty, then you've wiped your internal storage ("SDCard") at some point. I haven't used CWR in a while, but it does store its backups on the "SDCard"?
cwm backups should be at /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
If it's not there, try looking for a clockworkmod folder on your sdcard.
So I've been using paranoid android for a while and I've been wanting to go to Slim Bean rom for a while. So i flashed everything correctly blah blah performed full wipe etc. Directly after the full wipe and flashing it says i have 866 MB available.. How is that possible? I just performed a full wipe, every piece of data is gone.. No apps, music, pics, or cached data and have not even a single GB of data available?
Before switching ROMS i deleted all of my themeing data - custom lockscreen and wallpaper data and widgets. They take up a ton of space. But none of that is on my phone anymore.. Why the hell am I only being granted that tiny amount of space?
Just so we're on the same page, where does it say 866mb and what all was wiped in by our full wipe?
It says 866 MB on the storage setting in settings menu and on the internal storage menu on my computer - when i plug the phone in
I would check your nandroid backups as well as your ''0'', see if there are copies of it.
You wiped your internal SD card from recovery? Or did you just wipe data?

In order to completely wipe the device, you need to wipe the sd card from recovery, or with a file manager.
Try this:
1. Download your favorite root file manager (My favorite is Root Browser Lite)
2. Check to see if your /sdcard folder is empty alternatively you can go to /data/media/0 to check this
3. If it is try navigating to /data/media/legacy/ this will be all of your stored files from before flashing to 4.2
Before deleting make sure you aren't deleting your clockwork folder or TWRP folder because that is likely where any nandroid backups would be located
If I have helped slap that thanks button please.

Ok, so I deleted a few things from my 0 file because it had duplicates of existing files in it. I gained about 1 gb of extra space from that, thanks.
But now when I go redownload an app that I once had ( i.e widget locker ) it says unknown error code during application install : -24
I was searching and I think i may have deleted the widget locker that was located in my "0" folder. Is there a way around this? Can i make a new folder titled Widget Locker or something?

I would rather not restore that backup since it is the JSS15J system, so is there a way I can get the data of at least a few apps and restore them individually somehow?

Ok, can it read the data in the TWRP folder? I have used TB a lot in the past but didn't think it might be able to use the TWRP data.
If it's not compressed (I never do), TiBu can do it perfectly.
In Titanium backup pro in it's menu is the option to 'extract from nandroid backup' .
Did it just last week, so I know the current version works.

It can restore apps and/or data, SMS messages, Call logs and more from your nandroid backup. It can also decompress the backup if it's compressed.

Of course. TWRP has no advanced backup&restore features because it doesn't need them: you will be prompted before each backup&restore action about the partitions.
For data of just single apps use better Titanium Backup. It can extract them from your nandroid backups

Exactly what I do.
marsmallow 6 will update apps + data from your google account. Not sure it's fully implemented yet but it's supposed to work. I've tried it yesterday with a Mm6.0.1 on nexus 7 2013 and many apps were already configured. Not all of them. Going from MM6 to MM6.0.1 might complicate it so maybe it's better to restore with google and do a little work by yourself, to make sure. I gave up on those restore apps. It also give you the opportunity to do a clean up

You need to ..extract/restore individual data files from nandroid backup?
Restore data to an app when switching between ROMs or OS versions?
Well TWRP IS THE ONLY THING YOU NEED! And a PC of course.
Bless the Devs[emoji7][emoji28]
Forget Nan managers, tar.extractors & the insanely complex Bash terminal commands
1. Go to File manager on TWRP recovery, it can read the system data i.e. data/data/ file (while your other file managers can, only data files on SD or ext.SD)
2.Go to data/data and locate the data folder of the app you wish to extract; will be in the format 'com.app name'
3.Push 'Select folder' tab on the screen; it gives you option to COPY the file
4.Move up & paste the data/data file on your readable memmory: sd/ext.SD
And that's it!! Just connect to the PC & pull the file & there u have: your APP DATA FILE!

And believe me, I could repack the data into my new ROM just like that!
Not sure if this messes up with your system but I'm going great so far.
So you Upgraded to a higher OS and find some of your apps to be crashing on your new ROM & have a nandroid of your stock:
You are going to switch data files between stock & custom ROM!
1.Flash the Stock ROM & copy app data from the system files to readable memory, as mentioned above, just add a letter & Rename the copy(which again you can do with TWRP!) so that TWRP may not confuse with the new folder
2.Flash the new ROM, uninstall the app that crashes & install the compatible version from the store
3.Allow storage permission from settings; open the app & perform some action so that a storage directory is created,if not already, in the system storage
4.Boot to TWRP recovery in the new ROM , so now you have the data/data folder of the new app you just installed(which is empty) as well as the data/data folder from your stock ROM on your SD/Ext.SD
5. You know were this is going[emoji16] Delete the data/data folder on your running ROM & MOVE(again with TWRP only!) the one from SD ,after restoring its original name, to the data folder from were you just deleted the other.
6.Wipe Dalvik/caches & reboot
7. Other than receiving a pop up that there may be some trouble with your android system, on startup, everything works just fine for me & the App is fully restored!![emoji7]
Didn't even use a PC!!
Such a tool TWRP is[emoji7][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120]
Forgive me, but try this at your own risk, coz as a newbie Im completely unaware of the consequences
Hope this helps somebody[emoji4]

Then in recovery you have to go to backup and restore -> restore, and there you have dates of backups. Date shows when the backup was taken. So for example. ROM A backed-up in 2013-04-27.16.15.09, and this is how it will be shown in recovery: 2013-04-27.16.15.09
You must just click the ROM you want. You must remember the dates ;P. Then just reboot, and it's done.

After backup, all your rom is on your SD Card/clockworkmod/backup. There are folders with dates of backups. In each folder are files: .android_secure.vfat.tar , boot.img , cache.ext4.tar , data.ext4.tar , nandroid.md5 , recovery.img , system.ext4.tar.
Hope I answered all of your questions.
