Hello buddies who love xda-forum.
I would like to ask to you :
1. How to back-up ROM (setting, app installed, script installed) before we want to install new script.
Please Give me a clear tutorial. (for example : 1. You must enter the recovery mode by clicking this + this + this 2. You must... Bla..bla..bla.. And so on) :banghead:
2. How to back up installed app if we want to migrate to another ROM?
Please Give me a clear tutorial too. (for example : 1. You must enter the recovery mode by clicking this + this + this 2. You must... Bla..bla..bla.. And so on) :banghead:
If you recommend any software /app, please mention it too..
Big thanks before buddy / bro / sister

Where we Can find back-up file from this step, Bro...?
What format is that..?
After backup, all your rom is on your SD Card/clockworkmod/backup. There are folders with dates of backups. In each folder are files: .android_secure.vfat.tar , boot.img , cache.ext4.tar , data.ext4.tar , nandroid.md5 , recovery.img , system.ext4.tar.
Hope I answered all of your questions.

Naah, it's good answer,bro..
But, i have newer question about it.
If we have many back-up ROM, for example 3 back-up from 3 different ROM. How we restore one of them in cwm recovery?
(for example we have back-up ROM A, ROM B, ROM C)
Sent from my GT-5660 using xda app-developers app
Then in recovery you have to go to backup and restore -> restore, and there you have dates of backups. Date shows when the backup was taken. So for example. ROM A backed-up in 2013-04-27.16.15.09, and this is how it will be shown in recovery: 2013-04-27.16.15.09
You must just click the ROM you want. You must remember the dates ;P. Then just reboot, and it's done.

I think that most of customized ROM support ext4 partition and release A2SD/CM7/A2E version.
And many apps or data are moved to /sd-ext.
Is there any good backup app or Recovery can backup /sd-ext partition and save to sdcard?
Sometimes I don't want to recovery all ROM and do restore data/apps things again and again.
Use ROM Manager, which could backup sd-ext individually.
But this function only shown in Premium version.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesnt Recovery menu offer that function? (Backup and restore menu)
I use the recovery menu that was flashed by RomManager (2.5.0.7 or something), and it is able to do a full backup (aka nandroid backup? I'm new so not sure about terms)

Do not use rom manager. It carts more problems than out solves.
Yes, every recovery should have this offer.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
The way I backup is following:
1st step:
Titanium Backup. Use this to backup all my app/data/settings.
2nd step:
Set up Google Backup if supported (that way Market knows what apps i had and starts installing them after a wipe) Does not always work however, hence the step1.
3rd step:
Reboot phone into recovery menu, "backup and restore > Backup". This backs up following: system, rom, ext partition (if any) and also recovery/bootloader.
Using these steps, i can restore only my apps/settings (step 1) on a new rom or do a complete restore if something doesnt work right (step 3). Step 2 is handy If i want a fresh start but it doesnt always work right.

Thanks for your information.
No matter ROM manager or new Recovery, the problem is to support /sd-ext backup/restore especially I always format to ext4.
I installed ROM manager once, but it can not backup/resotre my ext4 partiton.
It might be 2 month ago, and I removed ROM manager.
Did anyone have the experience to backup/resotre ext4 and which Recovery version?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Nandroid is a form of backup that backs up all your system files, applications and their data. It does not, however, backup your kernel. Making a Nandroid backup is really easy. All you have to do is follow the steps given below:
Disclaimer: As Nandroid backs up only system data, if you change the kernel or brick(brick means mess up) your phone while doing backup, I or XDA aren't responsible for whatever happens.
Required-
A Samsung Galaxy Y
Procedure:
Ensure you have at least more than 70% battery as a precaution.
Also ensure that you have at least 700 mb of free space on your SD Card (my backup took 600 mb of space).
1. Download ClockWorkMod from here - View attachment cwm.zip and put into the SD card (not in any folder).
2. Switch off the phone.
3. Reboot to recovery mode by pressing Power + Volume Up + Home buttons.
4. Now there is no touchscreen, so navigate by pressing Volume Up And Volume Down and Home button for selection.
5. Select 'Update from SD card'.
6. select the 'cwm.zip'.
7. Select it.
8. Now, in the CWM menu, there i an option 'Backup and Restore'
9. In that menu, select 'Backup'.
10. There it is! Your Nandroid backup has started!
Now sit back and wait for 5 mins for your system to backup...
11. Now select the 'Reboot now ' option from the menu...
Now you have a Nandroid backup! You can check it by using a file manager and going to /mnt/SD Card/clockworkmod. there you'll find a folder with name of Some date and time. In that the backup resides.
Supposing you want to restore the backup as you have done a wrong tweak, then:
Procedure:
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Flash the 'cwm.zip' ( flash means select that file and 'install the update from SD card').
3. Select 'Backup and Restore'.
4. Then select 'restore' from the menu.
5. It will either show a list where you must choose your backup.
That's it! You have got your old mobile back (in a sense)!
Or maybe you want your Data back after you flash your new ROM:
Procedure:
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Flash 'cwm.zip'
3. Select 'Backup and Restore'.
4. Then select 'Advanced Restore' from the menu.
5. There are many new options now. Select 'Restore Data'
6. After the Restoration, reboot the phone.
7. Switch off the phone.
8. Recharge it to atleast 80%.
Now you got all your data in your new ROM. Cool ,isn't it?

So here's the thing: I made a TWRP backup of my 16GB nexus before I returned it yesterday (multitouch issues, dead pixels) but see now that people are reporting an OTA update that fixes the multitouch issue. I would rather not restore that backup since it is the JSS15J system, so is there a way I can get the data of at least a few apps and restore them individually somehow?
Thanks!

Ok, can it read the data in the TWRP folder? I have used TB a lot in the past but didn't think it might be able to use the TWRP data.
If it's not compressed (I never do), TiBu can do it perfectly.
In Titanium backup pro in it's menu is the option to 'extract from nandroid backup' .
Did it just last week, so I know the current version works.

It can restore apps and/or data, SMS messages, Call logs and more from your nandroid backup. It can also decompress the backup if it's compressed.

Of course. TWRP has no advanced backup&restore features because it doesn't need them: you will be prompted before each backup&restore action about the partitions.
For data of just single apps use better Titanium Backup. It can extract them from your nandroid backups

Exactly what I do.
marsmallow 6 will update apps + data from your google account. Not sure it's fully implemented yet but it's supposed to work. I've tried it yesterday with a Mm6.0.1 on nexus 7 2013 and many apps were already configured. Not all of them. Going from MM6 to MM6.0.1 might complicate it so maybe it's better to restore with google and do a little work by yourself, to make sure. I gave up on those restore apps. It also give you the opportunity to do a clean up

You need to ..extract/restore individual data files from nandroid backup?
Restore data to an app when switching between ROMs or OS versions?
Well TWRP IS THE ONLY THING YOU NEED! And a PC of course.
Bless the Devs[emoji7][emoji28]
Forget Nan managers, tar.extractors & the insanely complex Bash terminal commands
1. Go to File manager on TWRP recovery, it can read the system data i.e. data/data/ file (while your other file managers can, only data files on SD or ext.SD)
2.Go to data/data and locate the data folder of the app you wish to extract; will be in the format 'com.app name'
3.Push 'Select folder' tab on the screen; it gives you option to COPY the file
4.Move up & paste the data/data file on your readable memmory: sd/ext.SD
And that's it!! Just connect to the PC & pull the file & there u have: your APP DATA FILE!
I was tired using zip extractors, changing file names & struggling with command prompts; then found this[emoji4]

And believe me, I could repack the data into my new ROM just like that!
Not sure if this messes up with your system but I'm going great so far.
So you Upgraded to a higher OS and find some of your apps to be crashing on your new ROM & have a nandroid of your stock:
You are going to switch data files between stock & custom ROM!
1.Flash the Stock ROM & copy app data from the system files to readable memory, as mentioned above, just add a letter & Rename the copy(which again you can do with TWRP!) so that TWRP may not confuse with the new folder
2.Flash the new ROM, uninstall the app that crashes & install the compatible version from the store
3.Allow storage permission from settings; open the app & perform some action so that a storage directory is created,if not already, in the system storage
4.Boot to TWRP recovery in the new ROM , so now you have the data/data folder of the new app you just installed(which is empty) as well as the data/data folder from your stock ROM on your SD/Ext.SD
5. You know were this is going[emoji16] Delete the data/data folder on your running ROM & MOVE(again with TWRP only!) the one from SD ,after restoring its original name, to the data folder from were you just deleted the other.
6.Wipe Dalvik/caches & reboot
7. Other than receiving a pop up that there may be some trouble with your android system, on startup, everything works just fine for me & the App is fully restored!![emoji7]
Didn't even use a PC!!
Such a tool TWRP is[emoji7][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120]
Forgive me, but try this at your own risk, coz as a newbie Im completely unaware of the consequences
Hope this helps somebody[emoji4]

1. Go to File manager on TWRP recovery, it can read the system data i.e. data/data/ file (while your other file managers can, only data files on SD or ext.SD)

I don't understand this step. I go to file manager, then navigate to /external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/... and there are files like data.f2fs.win009. Now what?
Hi,
Yesterday I made a new nandroid backup and uploaded it using clockworkmod, which created an zip file, my problem is, how upload it to android to restore again using clockworkmod?
Thanks in advanced
There should be an option to restore and let you choose the backup under "Backup and Restore" in recovery.

You made a nandroid while in custom recovery right ? The confusing part is you say then you uploaded it . If its on your phone then it should be in your clockworkmod backup directory .

The problem was, I made an nandroid backup and uploaded it to my computer, and to save space deleted from my GNex. I installed a new rom (4.4) and because I didn't like it wanted to return to my backup. I couldn't find a way to upload it to my GNex using Rom Manager/Clockworkmod Recovery, then I tried to copy to "sdcard" then to /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup, but using root explorer applications I couldn't, finally I used an terminal application to move/copy using comand lines as su/sudo (can't remember which), after this I finally restore the backup.
What's strange is, with Rom Manager I can upload the backup to my computer using http://192.168.43.1:4000, has an zip file, but to restore from my computer to GNex there isnt any option, either to extract the folder with date and time to the correct folder, in this case /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup.
that sound like u already wipe data partition.. just make any fake flash zip to mount up the partition.
then restore the recovery from your sd (if any)..
or can push that recovery data...
1. using correct path - /data/media/0/twrp/backup/folder_name.. or any ( can found this path in nandroid recovery log)
galaxy nexus i9250
i got the update notification but wanted to know if it would wipe my data, i installed CM 10.2.1 and gapps via recovery, if you need more info i can provide but I'm not too sure whats needed  thanks in advance guys
no it wouldn't, but i'd do a nandroid backup just incase and flash gapps 4.4.2 to make play more compatible with kitkat (cm11)

If the backup you made was via CWM you can restore from there as well. Just make sure you find the right path to your backup. Example: i have my backup on my micro sd card, I would select Backup and Restore, select Restore from / storage / sdcard1 and then select which backup you would like to restore.
Hope this helps
