I just update via OTA but now I can root or cwm my phone?
I try the old way I did before on my bricked s3 but today when I got my new one I update to h9 and when I try to install cwm via odin it didnt work...
Any help

It worked but when you reboot your stock touchwiz ROM reinstalls the stock recovery automaticly everytime you reboot.
In odin uncheck "force reboot"
Flash CWM
Remove battery of the phone
Put it back
Boot directly in recovery with the volume up+home+power combination
You now can boot in CWM to flash your .zip files.

Another question
Ok after flash cwm...I can flash any rom I want and not worry of loose the recovery?
I meant I flash x rom and then I can boot on recovery every time I want
Enviado desde mi SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 usando Tapatalk 2
Exactly! Once you'll install a Rom like AOKP, the CWM recovery will stay installed as your default recovery

It would be helpful to know what rom/kernal/recovery you were running before. Have you tried using download mode?

Your problem was having the stock kernal to do the flash. Best thing to do know is to flash a el26 CWM kernal using Odin and then reflashing the whole rom set up again.

what was wrong with flashing a rom on el.29? That's the version this rom is made for

Sprint galaxy s2... so what you guys are saying is that I need el.26 to flash this rom? What roms are made for el.29
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 2
I'd have thought you would be perfectly fine flashing from el29. So you can't get into Odin mode or CM recovery?
I thought some roms were compatible with rouge recovery only and some were only compatible with cwm recovery.?.?

So there are two different recoveries? Is clockwork the most used recovery? I odin backed to el.29 rooted does someone have a link for clockwork? Is rogue recovery not as good as clockwork

I don't think it is possible to have the stock kernel and have rouge recovery. That would mean that you must of had a custom kernal which had included rouge recovery. If you mean you had stock kernel to being with you then you flashed the new rom using androids stock recovery which almost always fails when installing a new rom. The kernel I mentioned , EL26 CWM can be found here, flash it using odin and then reflash your whole rom setup. When you double click the file, it will self extract and a file should appear. That is the file you flash using odin in the PDA slot.
The file I flashed in odin was a rooted el.29 file then I used a tool that installed the el.29 rogue recovery... so I'm confused why a .29 rom won't install over a .29 base?
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 2
Just put the phone back into download mode Odin el.29 rom that you can find in development section then from there just redo it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I have already odin back to rooted el.29 but what I'm wondering is why would it change anything? It's already soft bricked once so how would it change this time? Should I be on .26 or .29 to flash a rom?

there is a rouge aka team rouge recovery and there is a regular old clock work recovery.

OK So sounds like (not too sure though) that you used sfhub's Autoroot package to root and add EL29+CWM+Rogue is that right?
Solution to get you back to a working EL29 stock (but rooted) running phone.
Power off the phone.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 download the Download the EL29 full restore One-Click self-extractor and extract the file somewhere.
[Also make sure you downloaded and installed the Samsung drivers from this post, have a GOOD USB cable and that the phone is charged at least 50%]
Then start the file you downloaded: SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-OneClick.exe
The power on your phone while holding the Volume Down button till you get the confirmation screen and press volume up to accept and enter Download mode.
Connect your phone to the PC and it should show up on some COM port (doesn't matter which one) in the Odin tool.
Press start adn wait till all is done. You will then have a working stock rooted phone.
Then take some time and read through all the stickies and tutorials in this section. Read especially the 'how not to brick' ones!
This phone is very different from the HTCs and Motorolas in how the system(s) is partitioned and how the recovery works.
Then take some more time and read a little more or you will surely turn the phone into an expensive fishing lure.
If you want to flash the FF18 (actual leak build) sfhub has a one click for that too! Safest way to go. And you can use his Autoroot package to add Agat's safe ICS kernel.
Welcome to the E4GT just be careful and you'll have more fun.
By the way Qbking77's videos are SUPER if you are new to this phone!
Yes I'm on stock rooted el.29 now

Here goes...
I updated to 6.0.1.4 and tried flashing CM October 10th nightly. I used darkside superwipe and darkside cache wipe then flashed the rom and rebooted. The phone got stuck in a boot loop so i let it set for about 15 minutes. After, I pulled the battery and booted into recovery. I attempted to flash again but the damn thing would simply freeze right at the start of the flash. Also, whenever I tried going "back" nothing would happen, just a blank screen with the CWM background. I'm at a complete loss at what to do. Any help would be amazing
Do not use dark side wipes on the new cwm6. they are outdated and not needed .

It happened to me before. This is what I did to restore the recovery.
1. Download cwm 5.0.2.7
2. Go to download mode. Connect usb to computer then plug into phone while holding volume buttons.
3. Use Odin 1.8.5 and flash the cwm file.
4. When you get your recovery back, restore rom from backup.
5. Upgrade to twrp for more stable flashing experience.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
meh same thing happened
refer to fe1ixs's post but if u need to recover files like i did...when u reboot back to recovery 5.0.2.7, darkside cache wipe and then u should be able to boot to your homescreen, install goomanager, menu>install openrecoveryscript........
i pretty sure the reason for this bootloop is because ur not suppose to use darkside anything in 6.0.1.4.....cause they already fixed the wipe...but i recommend twrp for maximum stability
Hello XDA. I have a n00b question. I have rooted my GNote2 using CF Auto Root and kept everything stock but now I would like to start trying some ROMs. I am away from home and don't have computer access so I was wondering if flashing TWRP from Mobile Odin will erase anything and also if it will what and how can I back stuff up before flashing TWRP. And also how to make sure I don't lose anything after that when I get ready to flash a custom ROM from TWRP. Thanks.

You might have to rebuild the partitions.
Another option is to use ADB. Using the dd to from command making sure you dd recovery to the correct partition number. There is a ADB command to show the partition numbers. You'll have to read up on that making sure you do it correctly or you can brick your phone.

Then use adb something must be up with Odin. Using adb you can use the dd command to install the recovery right to the partition. Just do your research.

Hi! I just installed DN3 on my note 2 and now my baseband is MJ9. But I need to unroot it to use some apps root protected.
If I do the unroot through SuperSU I will be able to re-root easily If needed?
In order to search the correct file to root by odin I have to look for the correct archive for my baseband?

You can do using odin but i had custom recovery installed philz touch, you can try other recoveries like twrp also. Recovery would make it easier for flashing supersu zip file whenever you want to root.
Is it possible to restore my stock ROM from nandroid backup and delete every trace of rooting?
