Rooted but on a stock rom ics - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

How do i take touchwiz off as the stock launcher and make apex my system launcher. I did remove it the first time but it started to act up and the phone actd up and i had to wipe and restore the phone.. So is there away to do this safely with now problems ??????

you dont need to remove the stock launcher to use apex or any launcher. Once you install the launcher and hit the home button it will ask you what launcher you want to make default. As a matter a fact its good to keep TW as a back up launcher in case your othr one messes up.

Yed i now that part. But i hate tw so much lol.. And i was removing some stock apps. But i kno that the Rom Im on its built n the kernal.

Stock launcher

Apparently I don't have a stock Android launcher because I fc'd the sense and it just restarted, any help?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
After the first consumer build, they took out the normal Android launcher. You can download any other launcher and use it though. I recommend Launcher Pro, as it can be set up to be exactly like the stock launcher, but you can customize it like crazy. And its free.

[Q] Why use any launcher over GO Launcher on Rooted Phone (Calk EG4T V 1.6 ROM))?

Can anyone help me with why I should use any launcher over GO Launcher? I have rooted and installed the new Calkulin V1.6 ROM.
Thanks!
Personally I feel as if Go Launcher was not specialized for Android 4.0, so I stuck with NOVA launcher. BTW you should give that a shot, I didn't like it at first, but I grew into and now its running great. I also run Calk's E4GT 2 v1.6, and it is great. It should come with NOVA launcher if you didn't apply the barebones converter.

You can't transfer screens across different launchers, at least not to my knowledge, the format isn't really standardized. If you don't see the app drawer, hold onto any empty space in the launcher until a menu comes up. Select Nova Actions and the app drawer should be there. You can drag that into the dock so it stays there.
Go feels bloated and slow to me, switch back to regular or tw and its faster and smoother.
I use adw ex because go lags n freezes and doesnt have the draw animations I like

Really? Go never lags or freezes and I have about 30 themes installed and tons of apps.

Go launcher also lags and freezes for me. I use adw ex
I don't like GO because it looks tacky and it's really bloated. All the widgets just seem to suck battery. ADW EX all the way

Actually I take that back. I'm loving Launcher 7 right now!

Trebuchet or Nova
If you want as close to pure ICS as possible, download the Trebuchet launcher. If you want a few more features, I like Nova Prime. I've tried Go! Launcher several times, and although themes are plentiful and there are some impressive transitions, I always get bored of the fluff and extra menus and choose something more minimalist. In my case, I flashed to ICS because I wanted to have a simpler bloat-free experience, and intentionally adding more seems counterproductive.
If you're rooted, I say why use any rom other than blu kuban? Best experience I've had to date.

Apex to me seems to be the best as of right now and really stable. I even bought the pro key
I use Nova Launcher because it's really smooth, polished, and has a ton of features. I used to use GO but it has sooo much bloatware. Why does a Launcher need to have its own App store, Lockscreens, messages, etc.? GO runs really smooth, but the features and different aspects just make it look unorganized in my opinion and cluttered.
I used Apex launcher (Pro) because I'm running ICS as well and not only is is built for ICS (love the widget drawer!), but damn near has the same customization features of ADW Ex and it's quite speedy and smooth (which I use when I'm on GB).

[Q] TW vs Apex Launcher performance/battery wise?

And how do I go about installing SGS3 TW Launcher on Darkside ROM
I would ask thederekjay before you go flashing anything on his ICS rom to make sure its compatible first. Wouldnt want to end up with a soft brick.
I use teslacoils Nova launcher instead of Apex, and the battery life is phenomenal and i find the UI much more customizable and fluid.
Been using apex for the first time ever and let me tell you. Its way better than stock launcher on stock ics.

Don't Remove TouchWiz on 4.0.4

I been playing around and trying to remove bloatware. I use various methods including Titanum Backup and the Debloat by Eaglerazor. After removing TouchWiz, the system cant boot at all.
Then I restore from backup, then do a factory wipe. Boot properly but remove TouchWiz again and have the same problem, not able to reboot again.
- Charles
It can't boot because you have no Launcher! Download Apex or Nova Launcher, set it to standard by clicking homebutton and than try to remove TouchWiz

you mean seclauncher or popularly known as touchwiz launcher? system doesn't boot or u see a black screen after boot?
I think it's because there is no more launcher in your phone
I have removed touch wiz always no problem

System doesnt boot. It just stuck at SAMSUNG.
So I assume TouchWiz is not something that you can easily remove. Its part of the phone and unless you find a replacement, then dont remove it

Have you ever tried to start Windows without UI?
No Launcher, no system boot
I'm using Nova launcher and frozen tw launcher via tb no problem at all......

Just to be clear: I don't know what you did, but after getting my device 2 months ago, Touchwiz never ran on my system again after flashing first custom Sammy rom. Just Nova Launcher. So imho Touchwiz can be removed as simple with Titanium backup like any other app. No stuck on boot or other strange behaviour.
And yes, Touchwiz runs above the ICS UI , it's just a f***ing Launcher m8.
Haha I once did that. Removed touchwiz from an s1 without setting any launcher (hopefully i had zeam installed but not set as default) so what I did was this. I booted up the phone and when it got stock I call myself. Then answered and pressed home button and set zeam as default... You could try that. But if you didn't have any launcher prior to deleting touchwiz I don't know what can you do.
Just reinstall the rom
Or he frozen tw-framework?

So this gets a bit confusing. I guess the requirement to remove the TouchWiz is to install another Launcher. Do not remove TouchWiz Launcher unless you have another Launcher

[Q] Note 2 TouchWiz 5x5 format

I'm a new XDA user and new to rooting so please bear with me. I am simply looking for a TouchWiz launcher mod (I think mod) that allows me to use a 5x5 app format. I have the SGH-I317 with build: JZO54K.I317UCAMH3. Can anyone help me out?
You just need a different launcher...
Give Nova launcher a try from the play store..
No root required ...and it gives you the options to grid up to 6x6 I believe ...
Otherwise ...to get TW launchers with grid changes you would need root and a custom rom most likely ...g
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I haven't had the best experience with launchers from the play store. Had a go launcher before and it was just too much. I went with the root because I figured I could just mod the touch wiz or flash a better touch wiz Rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Never mind. I gave up looking for a mod and downloaded the Nova Launcher. VERY easy to use, customizable the way I like and very smooth.
Now the only question I have about having multiple launchers is... How do I prevent them both from running at the same time? I already set the default that when I press the home button, it goes to the Nova Launcher. And then in Nova Launcher settings "swiped away" the touchwiz launcher. But is it still running in the background? Do I even still need it? If I don't, how do I remove it? And no worries, I have a backup from before I installed Nova.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Once you swipe away the tw launcher you have set nova as default. Only the default launcher will run. I would not remove the old tw launcher as it can be a backup in case nova acts up. In other words, its good to have multiple launchers installed. Only one launcher is active at a time.
