Gb vs ics performance in games - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, could someone tell me how smooth is nova3 and wild blood on cm7?

from my experience I would say that the highest performance ROM is android revolution HD

Nova 3 works fantastic on my ICS rom as well as MC2 and MC3. A few games seem to stop working on ICS like Shadow Gaurdian being one of them.
sent from an Ice Cold Imspire

1. I ask about cm7... but thx.
2. On AospX nova is slooooow and laggy (multi), as is the wild blood.

CM 7 has kinda slow reacting cpu governors if you know what i mean...
and its a huge battery drain even compared with ICS roms....

Gaming on the GNex

does anyone lag when playing games on the gnex? it is very choppy when playing 3d games like running fred or dungeon defenders.
im currently on stock, unrooted and am wondering if installing custom roms will improve the frame rates?
I have aokp m4 installed with Franco's latest r98 kernel and I have no lag in any game... and I play the same ones u listed plus shadow run modern combat 3 and back stab
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Modern combat 3 is very smooth, but the multitouch bug kills the gameplay
Can't speak for stock, I was only stock for 20 minutes. But I haven't experienced any lag in any games on the ROMs I've run. Games include: Shadow Gun, Flick Golf, and Asphalt 6 HD.

can u try running fred and dungeon defenders?
they are my favourite games but the lag is quite frequent on both games, especially dungeon defenders...
I tried Running Fred and it indeed shutters 2 or 3 times per seconds. What is strange it that it seems to do it for several frames.
I'd guess the game has a bad rendering pipeline.
Just tried Running Fred, no lag. CM9 currently with stock CM9 kernel, GSM phone.

thanks..i guess i have to root and install aokp + franco kernel. any ideas what is the best and easiest way to root the phone (im currently looking at the GNex Toolkit)?

If you're not familiar with fast boot and/or adb, that's the safest bet. I'd encourage you to at least review the fast boot method however.

I'm running cm9 with glados kernel, default settings. No lag for fred, and the only lag in dungeon defenders is when they spawn the new waves.

I play Dead Space on Android and it is as smooth as you could ever imagine. But there is occasionally a few lag and buggy, but it doesn't bother me much. Also, multitouch is a breeze on that game too. It's rooted, stock ROM
kind of sucks that you have to root and flash a rom in order to play certain games lag free
I'm rooted but on stock...i'll give the games a try and let you know from my end. It's a better comparison since I'm on stock too.
The other posters who have custom kernels and roms are obviously going to have different results.
I'm on stock too and no lag at all for Super Monkey Ball Sakura and The Sims FreePlay.

Aw, I thought he's asking about gaming in general on GNex.
It's probably a better idea to email the app developers than asking here.

Ya that's what I was thinking too....could just be they aren't optimized for ICS yet.

who knows if you have to; there's obviously a selection bias here in that most of us already have custom roms/kernels installed.
Awaiting your stock results.

Just tried out running fred...definitely not "very choppy" for me. I am getting slight stutters usually when one of those "checkpoint reach" pop ups come the framerate will stutter a bit and the sound will as well. Nothing seriously bad, I've run into certain parts of Shadowgun that will have similar behavoir.
Not 100% but doesn't make the game unplayable for me. I'd suggest check to see if you have any background processes that are slowing things down for you. Maybe a bad app somewhere is ruining your 3d gaming experience. Also, game might not be fully optimized for us yet so might be a good idea to get in touch with the developer and let him know.
I won't be able to check dungeon defenders second wave today because my internet and 3g coverage is spotty right now at my hotel. And the extra content will take forever to download.
Hope this post helps a bit.
Ok so after about a month of running unrooted stock I have just installed aokp + Franco kernel and this seems to have a positive impact on the gaming performance. Running Fred runs quite a lot smoother now. But I haven't tried dungeon defenders yet. Will probably post results again when I have the time, but still its enlightening to know and let the community know that the custom roms and kernels not only benefits in synthetic benchmarks like quadrant but also in real-world application performance.

Arc S - Best Rom for Performance

Hi Guys,
As the title says, I would like to know which is the best Arc S Rom for overall performance/smootheness.
I'm currently on the stock Gingerbread Rom, and honestly I'm quite happy with it, but I really like some of the extra features that ICS has.
The thing is, with all the negative feedback people are giving about lagging and battery consumption, i'm apprehensive about updating.
So I would just like to hear some honest opinions on what do you find is the best ROM, and how does it stack up to the stock gingerbread one.
Thanks
Recently upgraded to the Mooded 4.0.4 rom and it has been great! Coming from Doom's 4.0.3 rom, the newer rom is MUCH better! Overall very responsive and as a result, i can run at 700mhz all day, with no noticeable lags! I did have GB once, but that was quite a while ago, so i can't really compare.. Hope this helps
Current setup: Mooded 4.0.4 rom + ArcKnight RC2 Kernel
GB.
Rooted 2.3.4, Removed all Junk apps.
Ill Tried so many ROMs, all are in my eyes crap.
****ty compatibility, all ics had Problems with 720p Recording, Crappy Games Compatibility and stuff
At least such Superlative ROM Titles like "Hd Gaming, Superfast, GPU Oc" are all lies
Arc isnt a good ICS Base.
No Dualcore, to small RAM.
Gb is The best Choice.
I love the ICS Holo Style.. But for me, Function over Design.
On my old Defy, with Quarx Cm9, all Games runs like Hell, Do a Test, putt Real Racing2 on your ArcS..
On Defy, a ****ing Performance, on Arc, a crappy Joke, even Menue Stuck every Second.
ARCONIUMS work is good.
Now, with GB on 1.6Ghz, ms Arc runs like Charm

Arc does not need even the OC to be fully capable of running ICS. I think you haven't tried Arconium ICS 2.4, the one with the software rendering enabled. Find it in the Dev section and BE HAPPY. It's smooth as hell, everything works fine and I haven't had ANY problems with it so far.
Performance & Smootheness...
I suggest Arconium(GB) , JJ's Hybrid(ICS).
CM7.2 from FXP130 is the best one. It is base on gingerbread. Amazingly fast and support themes. The only issue is it needed custom launcher. I suggested Go launcher. It have ability to overclock up to 1.6 ghz and many other stuffs. Tested and work with many games nice and smooth. Asphalt 6 running fluency. Shadow guns running fine with chinfire 3d by change open gl to nvidia. 200+ free ram. That it!
Edited: if you want holo theme. Theme it CM7.2 have lots of themes including ICS.
i recommend jjhybrid for performance and smoothness. i use this rom from 2.5v til now 3.2v...
im using arconium 4 with XArc kernel. at first it was a little bit laggy but after i installed latest V6 + kick ass kernelizer it was great. very smooth scrolling and everything works just fine
and i overclocked to 1,6GHz for daily use, no heat and stable with XArc

i suggest Xperia S ICS v2.5 . smooth, fast and stable..
GB is dead, deal with it!
Move on.
JJ's Rom & doomkernel smoother than butter
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
For perfomance, on GB - Stock 62, Acronium 8.2; on ICS - Acronium 4.0 (if you want stocklike ROM), JJHybrid, both with XArc or ArcKnight 3.5.1 OC kernel.
GB is suck! but the best Rom now for Arc is JJ HYBRID very smoothnes and really fast Recommend this rom. Sory my english

Gaming performance Jelly Bean Vs. ICS

Hello,
I have ARHD 9.7.2 with Faux123 011vf Kernel and with Renovate gaming boost I can play Need for Speed Most Wanted without issues, as well as other demanding games such as Modern Combat 3 and 4.
I had a quick spin in the ARHD 17.1 ROM (JB) and since it has the stock kernel, I installed Renovate gaming boost as well, but the performance was disappointing. It lags quite a bit more and it renders Most Wanted unplayable.
Also a quick bench on Antutu:
ICS: 14700
JB: 13000
So, the question is, am I missing something, or Jelly Bean is not good for gaming, compared to what we can achieve in ICS, with more custom tweaking?
Are there some Kernels for JB which can perform as well as faux's for good gaming performance, including GPU Overclock from 416MHz to 5120MHz?
1700 is the difference
Stock kernel
Stock based rom
And you wonder if you are missing something
Yes you are that is a small difference and ics has been tweaked for a long time for an initial rom version and stock kernel that's awesome by the time development on new kernel and new roms hits the same level it will far surpass your current high score and by then you will be making the same comparison with 4.2.5
Sent from an ice cold One X Blacked out!
I must say that i've played Vice City before updating to JB and it was running maxed out without major drops. On JB it has framerate issues all the time ;x. Most Wanted is running very good like on ICS.

jb is better than ics
Best performance for games and Overheating whith jb
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
yes performance on JB has taken a hit . It was wayyyyy smoother on ICS . In Vice City i could play max settings , flawlessly with ICS . On JB it lags like hell and i even had to lower the settings a lot. It was updated yesterday however and performance is now a lot better , although still not as good as on ICS but we are getting there! .
Im sure JB performance will screen when developers update their apps or in the next version of JB from HTC .
Me too.
Before I use ARHD 9.7 play Wild blood and Need for speed most wanted smooth and clear but now I use ARHD 17.1 is slowing down but I think it's problem with mod of 17.1 not Jelly bean . Only think.

[Q] Problems with laggy games on HOX

hi..
I make this thread because I get sick of my HOX..
As you know, it's Tegra 3 GPU in this phone and I expected much more.
First, many games are laggy, who even built for this phone / Tegra 3
Mine is rooted and uses the IceColdJelly with NCX kernel.
A game that I like very much is SG: Dead Zone that is build for Tegra GPU. But why the hell does it lagg? It should be the other way around.
Is anyone having problems with this game?
It does not matter what I use for graphics settings, Low,medium, high or ultra high
The game works much better on my Galaxy Nexus, but would far rather use my HOX!
Is there anyone who can give me a tip on what kernel / rom / sense rom that is good for gaming?
It would be wonderful and grateful
Hi.. im looking at a kernel from NCX what called NCX gaming kernel at NCX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33805830&postcount=10399
or EternityProject Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33672330&postcount=10158
Does this need a sense rom? or does it work with CM10 / AOKP rom? If it need a sense rom ? Which rom? i dont understand how to install it ? is there any one who has done this before and maybe give me a little guide how to install ?
It would be sweet. Thx, maybe this is a solution for laggy games?
Turning back from JB to ICS was the best thing i ever done.. running viper with NCX gaming kernel and Gaming booster and it really runs great. But dont know anything battery life yett..
Case close.

[Q] JB game performance question

I've used to run Jelly Bean on Desire until I installed Nikez's ICS 4.0.4 to check how games run there, and they ran much much faster, no lag at all. Still, JB is smoother in every other aspect besides gaming.
But ofcourse, no ROM has same speed and I was wondering are there any good/known tweaks to improve performance in games for JB 4.2.2?
Nikez's JB is faster than other JBs I tried but I still need little performance boost to make them run fast like on 4.0.4....
This is an interesting discussion.
I was on froyo before and jumped to JB 4.2.2 directly.
I can't compare some games because the newest ones work only on 4.x and did not work on 2.2... but the games working in froyo are working smooth on JB.
I'm using CyanoMod007 v21.
I think I could try the Nikez ICS you mentioned.
I am using it. It is faster than other Jb roms but not as ics.
JB is a resource hog compared to ICS and you can't get the same GPU perf on JB. It's a fact and you can't really change it unless we somehow become able to change the GPU clock on Adreno 200. I had the same experience on my Defy; CM9 is much faster for gaming than CM10.
Don't be disappointed, Adreno 200 is crap anyways and Qualcomm made a wrong decision in using the AMD Z430 in their debut GPU

I agree with you. But still, CM9 has laggy animations and feels slower then CM10. Gaming is it's only advantage IMO...
I used to play this mobile version of BFBC2 on my Defy all day and although it wasn't the best game I could easily get playable FPS on any CM9 or CM9-based MIUI ROM. The move to CM10 made my frame rates drop to the boundaries of unplayability. I can't even play it on my Desire, QSD8250 is so bad.
I think the system is just so focused on hitting 60 fps on JB ROMs because of Project Butter, that the GPU really has to push hard so there aren't resources left for gaming especially on a device with 512MB LPDDR1.
It's really a tradeoff; either you can have smoother animations on other apps because of Project Butter in CM10, or you can have better gaming performance with CM9.
The system isn't trying to hit 60fps since the desire doesn't have project butter
Benchmarks
Here are some benchmarks of Quadrand Standard on 2 rooms that i tryed on both roms
