How did Facebook calendar events get on my S Planner? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Probably trivial, but I'm wondering how on earth did I get Facebook calendar events on my S Planner?
I didn't set any settings and they automatically appeared on my calendar.
Does anyone know how to get rid of them?

Open the facebook app and go to its settings and one of the options near the bottom of the list will sort you out.

I see it, but it's the sync contacts option. And I have that off anyway. It's something else...

Once I have done the sync thing, can I remove the facebook app? Is it still going to work?

Once you remove the FB app any data tied to it will be removed (contact pics, birthdays, email info etc).

The Facebook app will shortly be replaced with a native Android app as opposed to HTML5, so expect improvements there.
That being said, I've not noticed any particular battery drain from the Facebook app.

That's why you turn off the notifications within the app because it will also disable the refresh interval and force the app to only refresh when you open the program.

Sorry if this has been asked before but...
How do you add a Facebook account to sync contacts etc?
I have the Facebook app installed and have added twitter accounts etc through the accounts and sync in settings but Facebook never adds.

You can't. Support was removed back in 2.3.x for the Nexus S. Issues with Facebooks use of Google API's & local storage of contact data or something along those lines. Should be plenty if you search - either on XDA or on the wider intewebs.
Thank you

let's say I have all important people in my google contacts. I have manually related every one of them to corresponding facebook contacts so that essentially I could see their FB profile photo.
seriously, cannot that be acomplished using GNex??

Don't fret folks. There are other options. I use Contapps. It has a feature to sync HIGH QUALITY facebook pictures. You're going to have to go with the pro version.

[Q] No Facebook notifications?

Hello,
The first week I got my GN, Facebook notifications were working like a charm.
Lately they stopped working completly. Both Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
Is there a real push alternative rather than the intrigrated one? They always seem to fail somehow?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It's Facebook's fault, their apps suck.
Logout from the App and log back in and adjust your settings again. Sometimes that fixes it.
Tried logging in and out with no luck
Is anyone else experiensing the same problem?

I'm getting notifications just fine if you go into the app settings you can set notifications within facebook rather than on the phone. alternatively you can sign up for mobile alerts or email notifications on facebook website from your account settings .

Well, I dont like email spamming from Facebook. Thats why I turned them off.
I've set notifications ON only in the app itself. Never seen such settings on the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Lol there aren't any on the phone I just wasn't sure if you thought there were. alternatively you can set up a new gmail account dedicated to your facebook and have notifications pushed there. Personally I just set a filter in my main gmail account 4 anything with the word facebook in the email address to go to a custom facebook label. I like to have access to those notifications in the event that comments are deleted or I need to refer to something. Although this means every time I get a facebook notification it's immediately followed by an email notification.

I've solved that by installing facebook messenger, works like it should within couple secs after a message is posted.

Facebook for Android is F....ng annoying. Draining battery and make me mad

1) Doesn't happen to me. Not a universal issue.
2) Chill out.
oh, and no one is forcing you to use the Facebook app.
Here's some cheese to go with that whine:
Fast for Facebook: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fastfacebook.com
Friendcaster: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.senab.blueNotifyFree
1. Change your kernel governor to Interactive or Conservative.
2. Use Friendcaster. Its way better anyway.

or you can just use the facebook mobile site thru the browser.
I used friend caster way before and I didn't like it but I been hearing a lot good things about it so I ma try it out. It looks neat will see how notifications behave. Facebook app sucks on Android or iPhone idk why can't they make it right

This is a known bug. It happens on my phone every time.
- Install facebook app
- login
- exit the app
- run the app again
If you install eg. "OSMonitor" you'll see the facebook process is consuming a lot of CPU in the background.
Given their track record, they'll probably fix it in a few years.
I have another issue with Facebook. For some reason every time I try to share something it comes in some foreign language. Coincidentally started after installing flip board. I have uninstalled flipboard and also reinstalled Facebook but no resolution. Please help.

Turn off Facebook sync? works for me. My battery life is beyond awesome.
m.facebook.com bro
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
the only function I'm really interested in (contacts sync) doesn't even work with the official facebook app.
Facebook sucks up battery and network for me, in crazy ways.
If I login to facebook and leave it running, I get zero notifications, loading anything (even over 4G or wifi) takes forever, and it somehow managed to suck up 2 gigs of data in a 72 hour period (as well as using 38% of my battery?!?). Anyone have any idea why/how THAT happened?
It's an easy fix though: uninstall app, use m.facebook.com

Facebook not syncing photos with contacts

Facebook decided it wasn't going to place nice with google anymore and throw up all kind of restrictions on the API to sync contact pictures with Android. Basically it's not even supported with JB so that means you need to use a 3rd party app unfortunately. Don't ask me for sources because I read it somewhere when I was researching why my contact pictures weren't syncing. I just tried to go back and find where I read it but couldn't find it.
Personally, I've been using this app on the market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDMsInJvLndlZWRuZXQuY29udGFjdHNzeW5jIl0.
Yeah, I read about Facebook not playing well with JB. I just use Friendcaster to sync contact photos then remembered to un sync it after it drained the battery not allowing the phone to sleep, if you don't un sync it syncs constantly.

Friendcaster doesn't have the option of how often it syncs? The app I recommended does. I have it set to once a day on wifi only. And you can specify how large you want the picture to be. High Quality photos on the N2 is amazing!!!

facebook battery usage

hey there, I disabled all the notifications of the facebook app and set syncing to every 4 hours. Still it uses about 1,7% in like 15 hours. Which means it is the top 5 battery drainer altough I dont even use this app. And I don't have any push or notifications on for this app.
Any idea what else i can disable to make the facebook app use less battery ?
Thanks
Greenify it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I would concur with greenify, but that assumes the user has rooted their device. If not I guess I'd look at some kind of task manager to manually kills the process like advanced task manager?

Facebook makes a lot cpu wakelock. It doesn't matter if notifications are disabled or not.
Change app or greenify it.

Every now and again I get to teabreak and Facebook has used more battery than screen. I've even reported it to Google. Never happened before they had their major update last year.

And again: Facebook is already on greenify.. still a lot of wakeups :/ guess then i can't do anything but live with it.

I use it, but not 24/7.. just from time to time when I want to upload a pic or i am bored.
Then create a shortcut to a titanium backup action to freeze/defrost /launch the application. When not needed just freeze it using the shortcut. The only downside to this is the Iook of the icon.

If you use Facebook to sign in with any other apps that may cause drain.

I also noticed that a lot of messenger apps (not whatsapp e.g.) drain a lot of battery. If available in the rom, I use "hold backbutton to force close app". So after using the app, I press this button until the app is closed. Then at least until restarting your phone, the app is unable to restart and to drain any more of your battery.
Just use the mobile web, its the same and a lot faster

I find it slower and scrolling kinda sucks. Watching videos in the browser isn't the beat either. I like the app. I just keep it greenified.
