WM Programming..>!!

Hi fellow XDA-Developerians...!!!
I am looking to start programming on Windows Mobile devices. I own a HD but have never programmed on windows mobile platform. At present I'm researching on search engines and have recently shifted my interest to mobile based information retrieval. I would therefore request you to help me get on with the first few steps with programming on windows mobile platform. To start with, which all tools or application I would require in order to write a program and run it on my device?!
I'm trying to make an intelligent mobile based search engine which would change its search tactics according to the users' usage pattern. If you have any idea about search engine technologies or know which programming tool to choose, please share with me. Any information is welcome.
Thanks for all your help...
101 views but not even a single reply?!
You'll find a lot of resources here. Search engine dev is too general, so google it.
P.S.: As your question isn't Blackstone specific you'll get more and faster responses in the Dev&Hack or Q&A forums.

New Writers/Mods/Admins: Why are Windows Phone 7 articles tagged as Windows Mobile?

The answer to this thread is provided HERE in post #6 by egzthunder1.
The short answer is that it is a technical issue with the site that is being worked on.
I know I'm not the only person on this site who cares about this. For those of you who don't know, Windows Mobile is a completely different operating system than Windows Phone 7.
I mean know disrespect to the news writers. Let me make that perfectly clear. I really enjoy reading the articles. The only thing that really bugs me, as a Windows Mobile user, is that some of these article get tagged as Windows Mobile when their content is about Windows Phone 7. Considering these are two completely different operating systems based on similar platforms, one can see where this would get confusing and frustrating.
To give an example, this would be like writing an article on an Android application and then tagging it as a Linux app. They're similar, but different operating systems.
Below are examples of this from the XDA Developers Twitter feed.

These are from the past three days of tweets. Out of the five of them that are tagged as Windows Mobile, only one is actually for the platform.
I have brought this issue up before in the (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins thread. Both times, it was ignored.

I'm not bringing this up to start trouble. I simply would like the tags to change to the proper operating system in the articles posted to the portal.
I'll flag this to the news writer team.

Thank you, CFB. I also get frustrated in seeing a post that I think might interest me, only to find out it is for Windows Phone 7. I have little to no interest in this as a windows mobile user, and have little to no interest in switching to a Windows Phone 7 phone at the present time.
I have been tweeting for this every day ......... Come'n boys ...just fix it ...

We know this is the case. I have been around since the days of the Wallaby, trust me... I know the difference between Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile. It isn't confusing to me or anyone in my team as we are all well versed on all of the above OS'. We are simply limited by the inability to tag WP7 articles as they should. The problem is that we have a limitation in the Categories that we can use in the Portal. Adding an extra category (WP7) with the current skin will break the formatting of the page and will make the articles and pictures start bleeding into each other. I have already tried it, which is why I am telling you this... the skin in the Portal needs a bit of tweaking and will be corrected eventually.
You were not ignored and I have been talking to the owners about this since WP7 forums started popping up on XDA as I knew this would happen. I will bring this up again with the owners and see if it can be changed.
BTW, please next time, don't assume that we don't know what we are talking about without asking us first (and I don't mean just posting in a thread, you could have pm'ed me if it was that much of a concern... I don't always check the General section). Thanks for bringing this up again.
Edit: Please change your Twitter message.
Right, as egzthunder1 says, it's a technical issue. I'll add this to the queue to be fixed ASAP.
.
The News Writers Team know about the differences between WM and WP7, as mentioned above it's a technical issue

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear it will be worked on. Sorry if the OP sounded condescending. I just reread it in the reply. I honestly didn't mean it to come out like that.
As for being ignored, though, I had no idea that anyone was looking into this. No one ever issued a reply about it either time it was reported. I wasn't entirely certain to whom the issue should be brought, so I posted twice about it in the requests thread.
I will edit the thread title and OP content once I get home to reflect this information. Also my Twitter status has been updated to reflect this news as well. I can't control when Twitsig will update the change, though.
Title and OP edited to reflect the answer. Again, sorry if anyone felt insulted by my poor wording. I assure you guys that I did not mean it in the way it sounded.
Now fixed
Our Portal Admin just let us know about modified the formatting of the Portal to allow for the fifth (and missing) category, so now and on articles will be able to be flagged as Windows Phone
Case closed
Thanks

[Q] Android artist resources

Other than seeing stuff that people have submitted on youtube or deviant art, I'm not having much luck finding sites that are specifically for artists on an android (or IOS) platform. I've started on a spreadsheet that lists out the available tools on android and what features they have so they can be compared but I was wondering if there was a site that talks about that kind of thing specifically? I dont find the descriptions or reviews on the play store particularly helpful as the only scratch the surface of the tools functionality and its only after purchasing that you realise its missing x, y or z meaning you need something else as well.
I also like to watch video's of people drawing and would like to see more of them to help me pick up techniques I hadn't considered as a digital newbie.
Any sites you can share with me?
I am getting the Note 8 just so I have the artistic on the go work I want to do. I am looking at photoshop and sketchbook for my drawing needs but like you have not seen much on doing art on android. Maybe its time to start a site
I will post any info I find here that might be interesting to artists.

Sounds good, I currently have PS touch an sketchbook installed not sure what samsung included. I will help with any apps or info I can.
I will look into a site for images and forums for android artwork. I only have android so I will only do this this if I can control the site from my note 8. Will post back here about it in a few days, still learning the note an want the weekend to figure stuff out.

I'm tempted to start a new site using webs.com or something similar specific for mobile tablet artists, but not sure if I will or not yet as it would probably take more upkeep than I'm willing to perform. I mostly use the web while at work but only have limited access and I'm rarely on PC when at home.
Anyone want to help? At the moment the note forums are all seperate but the apps and resources that we all use are common to everyone. My vision is for a front page that would link to various tablet specific resources, guides, reviews etc. List out the tablets with stylus support with links to the xda forums and a forum for people to share there art. discuss apps, techniques etc etc.
I may be able to get this chart finished as well...

Best tools for Android automated testing

Hi all,
(Hoping this is the right forum - its description includes "Discuss functional and performance testing tools and services" but if I select the Question box when posting I'm told "This is not a Q&A forum. By posting questions in this forum you are breaking the forum rules.")
I'm looking for tools to automate functional testing of Android apps. Robotium looks promising but I'd be interested to hear what more experienced Android developers think and if they have other recommendations. Cloud-based services may be interesting too.
Thanks
Mirko
Robotium is a nice choice. I've written a guide about it which you can take a look at.
Also the standard tool provided by the SDK, called the MonkeyRunner Tool, is also a great option.

Good tutorial, thanks.
The ability to control more than one device with MonkeyRunner sounds very interesting. I wonder if you could even simulate two users interacting with each other.

You can do it with Robotium itself. Just specify the actions which you want sequentially, depending on your needs.

I recently uese monkeyrunner on automated test. I really think it's easier than Robotium. Espesially the additional tool hierarchy to view perspective provided by the SDK is very useful.

Maybe I should try using MonkeyRunner once after all. Though I never felt the urge to use anything else after Robotium.

Android TV using monkey runner
Hi All,
Im new to this forum and Monkeyrunner as well. I tried connecting my cell phone using monkey runner and it works fine, but when I try to connect my Android TV, it doesn't connect. When I type adb devices, it gives output as <IP ADRRESS>:<port>, but waitforconnection command is not able to connect to my TV. My TV and my PC is on same network, I use ADB commands like logcat, push and pull works fine, but this connection using monkey runner is not working out.
Any suggestion guys.
Regards
Devendra
Alternative Tool: Ranorex
I have another recommendation for you: Ranorex. It supports both iOS and Android testing. You needn’t write any code because Ranorex lets you record your tests on real Android devices. It’s even possible to manage your devices over Wi-Fi from a desktop PC without having a USB connection to the devices.
Robotium is no doubt the best tool for android automation. To use it effectively, you can use this app: Robotium

Hello Firstly welcome to the forum!!
For creating an app you have to hire an Android application developer or you can discuss with the person with the depth knowledge of android development. There are many websites and companies, through which you can create your app.
