Low on space..can I just continue?

I have a stock (2.2) HTC Desire that is reporting it is "Low on Space", the phone storage is 12.90MB. I know this means I wont be able to store further apps but is there any problem if I just continue to use the phone in this state?
As I only use it as a spare phone I dont really want to start rooting it, all the apps that can be moved to SD have been and im unlikely to want to add any further apps.
As im happy with the phone as it is can I just continue to use it as it is, Low on Space? Im sure I read somewhere that while the phone is showing Low on Space there are some things that wont work. Is there anything I might need to worry about?
Many thanks in advance.
It's not a problem for the phone stability to have low free internal memory.
I had the low memory icon in the notification bar for several months before I rooted it.
The disadvantage is that as you said you can't install or update the apps.
However, I think rooting is now pretty easy and secure for Desire.
There is no problem, but you can't install new app or update it.
Furthermore some app don't make the sync due to low space. (many times ago I've this problem with gmail app)
Start the root and install a new brand rom like Cooldroid V3 and you will resolve your problems
Tom
Thankyou for your replies.
I have removed 2 apps that I hardly ever use, but I have left their backups in Astro, so I can re-install if needed. My phone memory now shows 15.9mb. As a result of the helpful advice I wont worry if I get the Low Memory warning again..so long as the phone remains stable, which it has been up to now.
Now I just need to pluck up the courage to root and put a custom rom on it....
I was wondering if you have tried the following? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037619&highlight=move+apps+to+sd+without+root
I was able to avoid rooting for a long time using this method. If you can pluck up the courage and find the time, rooting is definitely better in my opinion because it is a more permanent solution. It's not that difficult if you read a lot (then read some more and then even more), and no-one could have been more of a noob than I.

Its a case of buy a new phone or root. Once you hit low memory you will be forever plagued by it even if you uninstall a few apps as data just keeps building up elsewhere. You might buy yourself another 3 or 4 months by uninstalling all the updates for the sock apps such as flash, search, facebook, youtube, etc. I was in the same situation but then bit the bullet and rooted - not too hard as long as you follow the instructions. I now have 900mb free for apps and I reckon at least another year or so of life added to the phone

[Q] Anyone know why my data/data folder keeps freaking out?

Was getting low storage error and moved a bunch of apps to sd card and my data/data folder showed I had like 80mb free and error went away. Couple days later error came back without adding any new apps and I was under 15mb free, figured this was weird and restarted my phone and it went back to 78mb free.
So what could cause this? Is something not clearing out right here on its own? Btw I am on a stock deodexed rom.
if you don;t install the EXT4 fix, the stock configuration is for the Data partition to be a paltry 149 mb. That can get filled up pretty quickly-mostly by apps like the messaging app, Google Maps and anything else that needs to stored data in this "high performance/secure" location. i put it in quotes because it;s the "official reason" for doing this but I think it;s crap. in reality it;s a design flaw by HTC that never got fixed. also, files from the Playstore get cached to this partion which is why the free space available can jump up and down. there is only so much moving apps to SD Card will fix. the problem is certain apps accumulate data over time.
If you do install it you will have 749 mb available. if you have a rooted Dinc, I think there is no reason not to install it. then again I am not certain if your ROM is compatible. I hear that Touch of Blue has this fix integrated into it if you want to stay on Gingerbread.
this thread probably has all the info you need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488351
Thnaks man but it's not that, something is just "wrong" with it lol.
It will say I have close to 80mb free and just a few hours later be full. I noticed If I go into Titanium Backup and do some stuff (like removing orphan data) or something it seems to fix it and the low on storage space error goes away and frees up like 60-70mb instantly. This never used to be like this.
Wonder if it's just a sign of an aging cpu or phone not calculating how much free space is there properly.
did you install the fix? if you did not, then do it. the Dinc is a very well known device. Us users have beaten this device to death over the last 3 years. there is not too much new going on. it could be possible that your device is failing and if it is, get a new one.
before I rooted my Dinc, it was a daily struggle for me to keep this partition from filling up. for me the combo of data being consumed by Amazon App store, Google Play store and mostly my email client with 4 email accounts. 149 mb is just too small.

Not enough room to update apps?

Hi guys, in the last few months a strange problem has started appearing on my n7100 with 4.1.1.
It won't update apps, often when the apps are 20 mb+, but it happens with smaller apps too. It says there's not enough room on the device, but the whole time I've had around half a gigabyte on the internal memory, so I can't see what the problem is. Right now it says I have 660 mb free on internal, and 1.35 GB on the sd card.
Sometimes it has helped deleting some apps, but the problem comes back.
Any ideas?

You need like around 500 MB for your other apps to work .. Some apps will write and put files in your internal storage so they can function properly .. You have to delete some of your internal storage ..
You can't put apps in your External SDCard (unless you use some of the apps that makes it do that)..
BTW, update to 4.1.2 it might be the problem

That seems a bit ridiculous to me, when already the effective space is 10.36 GB. I would think that the space it needs to perform, was included in that. My old Htc desire was able to fill up till the memory ran out (which admittedly was very quickly).
No no, I know that, just wanted to give a detailed overview.
I would update, but with all those battery consumption problems I've been hearing about, I'm waiting for the next update, and then I'll see what people are saying.

[Q] Firmware 4.3 'Move to SD feature' broken

Hi guys, I posted this over at android central but I also wanted to post here to get as much help as possible.
"Guys, quick question. I haven't been on stock rom for a long while but I kind of missed using the S-pen and someone suggested a stock-based custom 4.3 rom that I actually like so I've stuck with it for the time being. Now, I never really bothered with move to SD mods because I've learned to use my internal and external memory more efficiently but I figured if it's feature in TW I might as well take advantage since I'll be traveling abroad for two months come Dec. Well I've noticed that even after the apps are "moved" to the SD card, I don't regain any usable space on my internal card. I downloaded a game that's 779MB. My internal reduced from 3GB to 2.2GB. Okay. So I moved the game to my SD card. It moved 778MB to the SD card and 656KB remained on my phone. However, my internal only went from 2.2GB to 2.3GB. What?
I went back and calculated all the games I moved over and I've barely recovered more than 500MB for close to 30 games/apps moved to SD. All the games are still taking up close to their entire size in internal memory. Then what's the point? I have a 64GB class 10 card. Can someone enlighten me on what the hell is going on? I normally would just shrug of when things fail this like this but actually being tempted to use it and then finding it broken is really irritating."
"Also, I should point out that none of the storage is taken up by game data. Usually when I finish game and haven't touched it for a while I just clear data and uninstall. However, I will be traveling with a organization that specializes in providing AIDS/HIV care and education to developing nations, so I will going to multiple small villages across five countries. I'm not counting on having any kind of service for a good majority of the time so I thought "great" I'll take advantage of this new feature and download every game I've ever bought so I have something to occupy my time during the plane/train rides. I haven't downloaded any games on my phone since I got the N7 so every game currently on my phone is newly downloaded and never opened, so, no game data."
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah...I know.

Major stuttering and slow down when downloading anything

I noticed lately that my tablet will stutter or slowdown when downloading something, from Netflix, Google Play store, or just straight up a file from the browser. I'm not sure what's causing this. I'm using 52/64GB internal and I have a Samsung EVO 256GB card I've been using for a while now but is only 32GB filled. This happens whether it downloads to internal or external. I've tried restarting the tablets multiple times and it still happens the moment I initiate a download.
Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know what could be causing this?
Edit: So I've done a couple more things to troubleshoot. I uninstalled a bunch of games and freed up more space so I'm now at around 40/64GB used. I also removed the MicroSD card in case it was the cause of it. None of this changed it. I'm starting to think this may have started after the December patch, but I don't remember exactly when this issue started happening or when the patch was installed.

Same problem here. I got about 30gigs free internal with no sdcard. I assume ram plays a part which is y I wanna root and REALLY CLEAN my sm-t837v. But yeah your not alone in this
Have you run a speedtest? Try a few different servers as there are some in my city that have poor results and others have great speeds.

It happened on my home WiFi(at&t), my data(i got Verizon for the tablet), cousins WiFi(comcast). 3 different locations and services...Tho something else could cause the slowness and slight freezing I just think insufficient ram usage

I don't know what to say. I've streamed Amazon Video and AirTV from Europe to my home with no issues. I don't use Netflix. Memory on my S4 sits around 1.7G free though I have to admit I'm not always checking it.
This happened to me just yesterday when i started downloading a 2GB file. Everything would just start going slow. Going into recents menu was laggy. The whole system just lags

Oh no i mean streaming and what have you isn't a problem it's just WHEN I do download from Netflix it drastically slows and stutters. I rarely do so anyways. It's just an observation I made and decided to blame ram because I like to know and be able to DIRECTLY CHANGE AND AFFECT ram instead of using cruddy ram cleaners but instead I'm with the difficult version of the S4 soooooooo
Also apologies if it sounded like I'm complaining
