[Q] APN setting problem - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi there, I have an issue with the APN setting
I bought the phone and it was locked on Rogers. I was able to unlock and my sim card worked no problem. I was able to get calls and receive calls as well. Then I tried to see if Data worked, not working at all. So I went to mobile settings and setup the APN settings. The thing is the apn settings programmed on the phone is for rogers. when I do mine, I need to be on a MNC of 370. as soon as I change the mnc setting to any other value other than 720, when I save, the setting disappears. I thought of installing a custom rom instead.
I installed the rom SERENITY v1.1 with no problems (Love the rom). when installing the rom, I just did a wipe data, didn't clear cache (since the guide didn't tell me to do so)
Now when I try to set the APN of my carrier (chatr Wireless in canada) it just doesn't work.
I believe it's because the MNC needs to be set to 370 and my phone is stuck on 720. When I try to change the MNC and save, The apn setting disappears (like many previous posts I saw).
is there a way to fix it?
I went into the /etc/apn xml file and the provider is in that list... but it still doesn't work. and also when I try to reset default apn... it doesn't show me any, all blank list.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you able to just input a new apn and leave the other alone?

I tried that too. and No, as soon as I put MNC other than 720, the setting disappear after I hit Save.

That's weird maybe try getting another sim card, my s3 was a Rogers phone that I unlocked and put on Virgin but I think my apn settings are embedded in the sim card

I'll do that first thing tomorrow. Thanks

[Q] Flashed to Revol Wireless, MMS sticks until reboot.

Well, first off, if you don't know, Revol Wireless is a small local company in my area.
It's very similar to Cricket.
I've gotten everything else to work on the phone.
I put in the Internet/WEP settings with QPST with everything sticking even through a rom change.
But, the problem is, when I change the default Sprint APN to Revols settings for MMS, it works. But, when I reboot it doesn't.
When I go back and look at the APN, it's exactly the same.
I even went into programming (##3282#) and made sure everything was correct.
Since I'm new I can't post links, but the forum I'm using to get the Revol information on, works fine on the Droid X and other Android phones.
Another weird thing I noticed, is that whenever you change the mnc to 00, the APN doesn't show up. It's still there, as you can browse it via APN Manager, but when you use voice dial to open APN, it's hidden.
At first, I thought that was the problem, but even when leaving the mnc to the default Sprint settings, it still only works until I reboot.
Also, the only way to get MMS working again, is for me to put a flash with a new ROM, and once I reboot, it doesn't work again.
I'm sure the settings are correct, because when using them on a Droid X they work fine.
Any advice, or suggestions would be appreciated.
I have a guide. I dont know if this will help.
I used APN Restore and Backup

Have a side Revol store do that.

Try using a 3rd party sms app like go sms. it allows you to change the apn just for mms settings. I heard it worked for some issues like this

Change it in the etc/apnsconf.XML file. All the numbers align with what you change in the program, so you just have to figure out what they mean. Compare the sprint ones on boot to the XML file then change the XML file accordingly for revol. You'll need to do this then put it in the zip and reflash. And you will need to do this each time you change roms even if you upgrade the same rom.

Connection failed due to incorrect APN setting

I took the SIM card from my Sprint global phone and put it inside an unlocked GSM HTC One X for use in Mexico. As Sprint has roaming agreements with Telcel (GSM), and the phone is unlocked, this should work. I'm able to make and receive calls on the phone, but I can't get data to work!
The error I get is:
"Connection failed due to incorrect APN setting"
I checked the APN in mobile settings, and this is what I have set:
Name: Sprint World
APN: cinet.spcs
MCC: 316
MNC: 010
Everything else is blank or set to defaults.
Anyone have any suggestions? For some reason, whenever I try to change the MCC or MNC and click "save" the APN disappears and I have to restore defaults for it to re-appear.
Thanks in advance for your help. Really want to get data to work on this phone!
I can't advise on specific settings, but you might benefit from just calling sprint? Make sure the settings don't actually change to something different when roaming? Or maybe they only have an agreement for voice calls etc but not data..

Since Sprint isn't a GSM carrier you're probably one of the less than 10% of their customers with a GSM SIM. It's a long shot than anyone here would have experience using data internationally on a Sprint SIM.

How do I delete the T-Mobile APN [I already have ROOT]?

Hi everyone,
I just rooted my phone using mrRobinsons No-Counter-Tipping method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687). I still can't seem to DELETE the stock T-Mobile APN, and I need to delete to get on SIMPLE MOBILE's data network.
Please help me if you know how to do this. Thanks.
I may be wrong, but I don't think you would need to delete it. I believe that you would have the option to select T- Mobile or Simple Mobile. Check the Simple Mobile box and you should be good to go. Hopefully this helps you. I'm not 100% sure since I've never had to switch carriers or APN's.

On(in) the apn screen, hit menu, add apn, fill in the blanks (I don't use Simple Mobile so I do not know the correct settings) and then save (or, menu> save) and when back at the apn screen tap the radio button next to Simple Mobile.

Thanks for the reply everyone, but on my HD2 I did add the SIMPLE Mobile APN WITHOUT deleting the T-mobile one, and it didn't connect to the 3g/4g network. Once I deleted the T-Mobile APN (as the instructions say to do per Simple Mobiles website) it worked fine.
Now that I'm using my S3, I tried just adding Simple Mobile, and that Does NOT work. I recently found an app that allowed me to change/delete the T-Mobile APN (APN Manager), but maybe that didn't complete delete it, otherwise something else isn't working correctly.
Is there anybody that is using SIMPLE Mobile on their Galaxy S3 (T999)????????

I just did it this morning. Added the new APN then selected the radio button (to the right of the name of the APN in the list). I was getting an average of 15 Mbps down.
My phone is unlocked, but it's never been a problem with any Android phone I've used.

Your phone is SIM Unlocked? Is it Rooted? I'm just trying to get my setting working, and stock (out of the box), the settings for SIMPLE Mobile didn't work (I restarted and everything just as the instructions say). The T-Mobile APN was still there.
Please let me know exactly what you did so that I can try and make it work for me. Thanks.
EDIT: One other thing. I have the $40 SIMPLE Mobile Plan (which was working fine on my HD2) with unlimited 3g data. What plan do you have? Do you think that would affect it?
im pretty sure u need to go to mobile networks/network operators/default setup and choose manual before attemtping to do your add apn.

I think this may have done the trick. I also think the connection is acting differently since I'm on this phone (with this stock ROM) compared to my HD2 (with CM9 ROM created by Tytung). So deleting the APN made it find the SIMPLE Mobile network, where manually setting this one made it so I didn't need to delete the APN.
Thanks.
Closely related issue - Please Help!
Your issue is closely related to something I'm trying to do, but unsuccessfully. I also have a T-Mobile andriod phone (galaxy) and I've recently switched to Net10 Wireless. The service is excellent and everything works great on the data side. However, I can't delete the T-Mobile APN and it keeps switching back to it randomly even though I've selected the radio box next to Net10's APN. It will work for period of time and then stop and I'll go back in to the APN settings, and sure enough, it has switched back to T-Mobile. It doesn't give me an option to delete this APN, only the one I added.
Any thoughts anyone?
Thank you!

I have a pantech pocket that I just got and I am using it on my new unlock straight talk plan...I am very technology challenged when it comes to this stuff. The pamplet that came with my new micro sim card for straight talk said that I need to change the APN settings and it lists what I need to put in it's place. However, whenever I go into "mobile networks" and try to change my APN settings, I can't. They are shaded and when I touch them they don't react at all. I can't change them at all! So, how would I go about choosing manual in the default setup? I am sorry...I just don't know where I would even find any of that at. Super confused

I don't know if anyone will ever read this, but simple trick:
You're right in that when you just add a Custom APN and select it (on any phone I've had), it won't remember your selection. It'll either keep selecting the Default APN, or neither.
What's always worked for me, is to create a 2nd one and name it "DONT USE" or "Dummy APN" and "Save" it (Menu).
Then create a 3rd one and set that one up the way you want/need and Save it, then select it.
Let the phone run for a minute and make sure your Mobile Data works (go to Google.com). Then Reboot and wait until it finishes booting up (2-3 minutes from when you see the Home Screen) and then go check it and your Custom APN should be selected.
Your Carrier may have instructed you to Delete the original one, but it can't be done from the phone's APN screen anyway. They never bothered trying it, trust me.

[Q] Speakout new data plan settings

I had the unlimited mobile browsing package a while ago before it switched over and now they have changed it to data.
I have tried entering the new settings of rogers-core-appl1.apn and that doesn't work and I have tried internet.com as well with no luck. I did make sure the settings were enabled (the radio button was enabled) and I did check out the unofficial forms, but I wanted to come here since I could post for a phone specific response.
I also noticed I couldn't select the option of IPv4/IPv6, as only IPv4 was available. APN settings are Internet+MMS instead of default.
Has anyone had any luck with it?
Regards,

Let me know if you figure it out. I have the same issue. No data connection

[Q] Cannot set APN (T-Mobile US)

I inserted my microsim card into the machiine and connected to Wifi. However it did not automatically download carrier's mobile network setting as a lot webpages described. So I tried to input APN settings manually. But as soon as I input everything and hit save, it went back to the original APN setting window without showing the newly added APN EVEN IF I selected Save.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Yeah me too. I think this is happens when you type in a username without PW and try to save. (In my case the APN for MMS)
The APN for Internet, where no Username is required worked, without Problems.
After that i downloaded it automatically.

Ha, turned out to be a defective sim card. The staff took my old big sim card and made this malfunctioning micro sim card. What a luck!
