Hi everyone!
I just unlocked my lumia 900. I am currently having 3GB LTE data plan with AT&T. I thought after it got unlocked, I will be able to turn on the internet sharing without getting the 5GB data plan. But it looks like I am wrong. Can some one tell me if there is a way to turn on the internet sharing with 3GB data plan on an unlocked Lumia 900? Many thanks!!
Nope. Unlock is only fro SIM cards so that you can use other carrier's sim cards. Internet Sharing is permanently locked in software. There might be slim chance that you can use Internet Sharing on other carriers but you will never be able to do so on AT&T.
So can we like refresh another carrier's system version on it? Like Rogers? So that can enable the internet sharing.
Yes, if there is way for you to do so. You will need to locate such a ROM and find a way to flash it on to your phone.

After unlocked my Lumia 900, this feature's also disable but after restart my phone. Everything's fine, it works like a charm.

Are you using AT&T?
I've reset my phone twice now just to verify and I can reproduce the effect every time... Internet Sharing works fine on my unlocked Lumia 900 that I'm now using w/T-Mobile (I'm in Vegas so yes, i do get 4g) and then I download the Nokia Network Setup app and just after running it for the first time I immediately check internet sharing... I get the msg to call AT&T to enable internet sharing.
So, that's what is causing it for my device as far as I can tell...Anyone feel like trying it to get a 2nd confirmation?

Here is a downer:
I just got a brand new Lumia 920 dev phone. Totally unlocked. And yet, when I plug in my AT&T SIM card and launch Internet Sharing, it gives me the same exact message my AT&T branded Lumia 900. It looks like Nokia goes out of its way to protect AT&T's interest even on a non-branded, totally unlocked, and yes WP8, phone.

Did it come with at&t apps or an at&t logo on boot?
No. It is not branded as I mentioned and I have to manually configure the APN before I can use cell data.

I can confirm the observed behavior. Seems that running Nokia Network Setup breaks internet sharing. So far, only a hard reset will fix the problem.

what about the new network setup app in windows 7.5 market, I am on straighttalk and I dare not upgrade the existing one as I fear its going to muck up the MMS and other APN features.

Pulling this thread up again. Has anybody any experience on WP 7.8? I have my lumia running on WP 7.8 (clean flash through the care suite). I did install the Nokia Network setup, since I wasn't aware of this particular issue (yes, I should have done my research, but didn't).
So, before I reset my phone, and spend all the time to set up my 4 email accounts and have to reconfigure my home screen (which would take longest), I want to make sure that resetting it will actually help to get the teathering working n T-Mobile.
Thanks
it doesn't

Just switched from an hd2 a couple days ago so the android os is new to me. I do have a few issues in which tmobile is clueless and won't help with being that they don't sell the one x. It's the unlocked international version
1-Will not send or download pics in texts. Sending failed after multiple attempts on ul or general network failure on dl
2-one x does not recognize the newer tmobile micro sim. I've read that I need to find a tmobile store with the older version. Until then under mobile network settings it will say no sim card foud and all apn settings must be done manually
3- manually transfer 500 phone numbers
I'm hoping that solving #2 will also fix #1. After inputting apn I do have Internet. Anyone xperience this yet? Thanks guys

you will need to change the message centre for MMS messages for pictures in texts, like changing the APN.
backup your contacts from the hd2 onto your google account, then sync with the android phone
Any clue how to change the message settings?
Never had a google account with the hd2 but I'm opening one today.

best bet. find a tmobile store if you have one near you and take the phone and ask one of the members of staff there to help you out. best solution really.
or call the customer service line and go through your issues and surely they will help you out. as the poster above you probably need your sms and mms settings to be send so they are set up for you to send and receive.
regarding the sim card i am not sure. probably the new card needs activating. again speak to the carrrier for that.
Tmobile online support told me there's nothing he could do being that tmobile doesn't carry the one x. I called cs and she was cool. We went through and did the apn settings per tmobile but I still have the picture issue. Advance tech support said idk as well. They both said to try the sim issue and see what happens.
I'm sure someone else has had this issue right?

Any chance the One X can be flashed to work on tmobile like the Skyrocket?
one x
I was going to buy a one x but tmobile tech support told me that the network band frequency's are different and the most i will get is 2G. I am about to call htc and will update with anythng
Correct. Edge aka 2g data is all you will get for now.
You see, T Mo USA uses their 1900 MHz PCS band exclusively for 2g traffic. 3g data (HSPA) and "4g" (HSPA+) is used in the 1700/2100 AWS bands.
T Mobile is reframing their 3g and HSPA+ to the 1900 MHz band and will have true 4g (4th generation) LTE on those 1700/2100 AWS frequencies (previously used for 3g).
I have the international One X on T Mobile USA and am patiently waiting for the network to modernize their infrastructure. Supposedly, between now and the end of the year.

My newer micro sim did not allow me to save the Tmobile apn . Switched it to my wife's older sim that I cut down to a micro for her iphone. Entered the T-Mobile APN hit the save button and of course it worked. I was then surprised when I switched my sim back in and it still worked. Had a few 50.01 SIMS ready but did not have to cut any down and call T-Mobile to switch them.

wow, thanks for that tip! i dont know about you guys but honestly, the s3 is better. i had this mindset that touchwiz is crap and the s3s physical home button is ****ty, super lcd is better than amoled and all that. but i bought my dad an s3 and i fell in love with it. it has much better battery life for a few reasons: touchwiz is light, useful, clean, and good looking. amoled has more true blacks, and the 2100 mah battery. moreover, just plop one in your wallet (on ebay for $3) and there is no way possible you could lose battery. removable back is also replaceable with a more stylish and secure back from ebay ($7). i mention that because i really liked the one x for its beautiful polycarbonate backing when really the s3 can have something even more sleek like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/40033322089...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/28093857636...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Hey everyone. I've got a Lumia 900 from Rogers unlocked running on T-Mobile. I was finally able to get one. My internet works great. It's Edge but that's because that is from my ten dollar grandfathered data plan so I don't mind. Everything works great I have the purple hue problem but it doesn't bother me much. What I am having trouble with that is bothering me a bit is that I can't send and receive MMS picture messages. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? I called T-Mobile. They were very helpful as always and tried sending me the settings and everything but it still won't work. Any idea what I could do to get this working? Is it because I have a Roger's phone that was unlocked? Would I have the same problem if I got the world unlocked version? Thanks in advance. I'm really excited about the phone it's awesome. Just switched from an HTC Radar. I don't wanna have to wait until Windows Phone 8 for a phone with MMS. Thanks!
Yes, you'd have the same problem on any Windows Phone not sold by T-Mobile. You need the Network Setup app to configure MMS settings. According to Nokia it should be out in the US late this month, early next month.
Oh okay, thanks. Would the app work or show up for me to download if I have a Rogers phone here in the states?

Hey Exiva,
Do you have a 900 you are using on T-Mobile?
I'm 2 days away from receiving an unlocked version off eBay. Anything I should know? Are you able to get other than Edge and if not, do you think the refarming effort will eventually bring the 900 to 3G or better?
Thanks

I'm not using a 900 on T-Mobile (Waiting for codes for the phone I won.) As of now you should only get edge, but yes, once the new frequencies are rolled out it should be able to get 3G/Faux-4G.

Is there any way to get an at&t Lumia 900 to bring up the "Highest Connection Speed" setting? It seems at&t removes this from most of their devices. The ##3282# trick doesn't seem to work, unless I'm doing it wrong.

Don't think so. That option in the Field Test menu was removed in one of the Firmware updates. I still have the option in my Cellular setting cause I turned it on awhile ago.
Guess AT&T wants you to use LTE even if you don't need or want to. Just stay close to a charger.

It was so worth the time to reset (I hadn't done much) and downgrade using Nokia care suite. Battery is so much better on my unlocked Lumia now that I've told it not to look for LTE or 3G since I Can't get either yet.

In post 1 of SuperSports thread in the dev forum he links to a mediafire share with a pre-tango rom there for Nokia Care Suite for the rm808 US at&t nokias. Downgrade to that with nokia care suite, do the ##3282# trick and verify the option is there, then upgrade to Tango with Zune or Mac Connector and it'll stick.
It's a pain in the ass, since you lose everything you already setup... But, worth it. Just know there is a risk that you could possibly brick the device doing this.
Hey all, been lurking for a while and found that many of you have unlocked Note 2's running on AT&T. I bought my unlock code and all is well on the voice front, I just can't seem to get data working (not edge, not 3G, not HSPA+, nothing). I've tried the various APN's floating around, I've tried selecting CDMA ALL for the frequency band, and I've selected AT&T and "registered on the network" using the automated feature of the phone itself. Still nothing.
When the AT&T version is released, will I be able to flash the ROM and make it work as if I bought it from them?

This is the answer I needed. Thank you! I ended up going to the AT&T store today. They said that for some reason I didn't have a data plan anymore (weird because I traded my iPhone 5 for this phone! They subsidized it.) They couldn't get my IMEI to work in their system so the saleswoman used her own IMEI to get me going.
I had been to the AT&T Store once before to trade my nanosim for a microsim, but the phone wasn't unlocked at the time so I couldn't test it out. They scanned in my phone but I guess it didn't take. All is well now, I have 4G (but not LTE, but it doesn't matter because I'm moving to a non-LTE city in less than a month).
It works perfectly, I put in the APNs from the Galaxy S3 on display that the AT&T Store. Decent speeds, awesome phone. Thanks everyone!

That's what I get. And honestly, 3-6Mb/s is perfectly fine for me. I'd like to get LTE for the time I'm here but it doesn't bother me that I don't. At some point one has to question that value of 100Mb internet on a 3GB data plan.

This is going to seem like a stupid question but, I have a Nexus running CyanogenMod 11 that I no longer use as a phone; it has no data plan. I am currently using a Moto X. But I'd like to do a factory reset through TWRP. Basically start fresh. The only thing I use the phone for now is WiFi to browse the web. Since a factory reset would clear all of my settings would I be able to sign back in on Google even though I don't currently have a data plan? I'm going to say that yes, I'd be able to but I just want to make sure. I don't want to render the device a paperweight.

Most definitely, you can do anything device related via Wi-Fi that you could do via mobile data. If during initial setup after reset your device does not want to allow you to add a Google account using Wi-Fi, simply skip Google signin, and once device is running, just activate your Wi-Fi, join your network and add a Google account directly from Accounts and Sync in settings.

Thanks. That's what I thought but figured I'd jump on here and make sure. I'm not even sure what my plans are for this device. I love the Nexus but the Moto X is pretty awesome out of the box. My Nexus is on the last known good nightly for CM 11; 11-20140117-NIGHTLY-toro. I might just sell it. I just didn't want to reset it and make it a complete brick for someone else.

make and model? we can get it onto prepaid, or possibly enable gsm to pop a sim in, depending on what it is
Free Moto X
Verizon Wireless is the only major wireless carrier today that does not put a software lock on any of its 4G LTE smartphones. This means that whether you are on a contract or you paid full price for your Verizon 4G LTE handset, it is automatically unlocked.
You should be able to put a SIM card in it from any GSM carrier and it will offer basic voice, texting and 3G data. Whether it will also support LTE depends on what LTE frequency bands are
supported in the phone.
A Moto X designed for Verizon will work with either an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM on the gsm network. But you may be limited in terms of the service that you can access. As I said, you will definitely be able to text, call and use 3g, access to LTE will depend on the frequency band being used in your area, but most likely you'll be covered.
As far as the nexus is concerned, it supports LTE Band 4 AWS, which is also supported by AT&T and T-Mob on GSM, although not everywhere. A simple, cheap prepaid SIM from one of these networks popped into your nexus will confirm if it will work.
Hope I was able to help out, so now what are you waiting for? Go get yourself an AT&T or T-Mobile prepaid SIM and free your Gnex.
