[Q] ICS Voice Actions apk - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have jb via cm10 and the smoothness is awesome....except with voice actions.
Basically I hate Google Now. I find it completely useless. When it posts sports scores it does so hours or days after the game rather than immediately. (It seems to have to poll the server rather than have them pushed like a dedicated app like ESPN.) Traffic always shows the wrong routes at the wrong time. Basically the thing never worked and after about a month I gave up training the thing and just shut it off.
Unfortunately Voice Actions still seems to be connected to Now and it's a lot less efficient than it used to be. First off, it takes FOREVER for it to start listening for a command, and sometimes it's listening when it says it isn't or vice versa, so it's a real mess. If I want to call a local business and actually manage to get it to recognize the command, it brings up a map with matches for my business search. I then have to tap the business which opens the place page in another app (Maps) at which point I can FINALLY push the call button. Before Now, I could just say "call jimmy johns" confirm it had the right store and hit the dial button, or wait seven seconds and it would dial automatically for me. No maps app necessary. Way too convoluted now.
Hence my question...
Does anyone have a copy of the ICS Voice Actions apk that I could install on top of jb? I know you could replace the ICS search apk with google now; I want to go in the other direction.
Thanks for any thoughts/help!

I would also like this!!

If anyone is interested... I installed the Voice Actions APK 2.1.4 from Gingerbread on my Jelly Bean device and it works even better than Google Now at detecting my inputs....
You can find the APK by searching for this exactly...
"com.google.android.voicesearch-214.apk" or downloading it below.
You must be ROOTED.
1) I move this apk as is to \system\app using EZ File Explorer.
2) I change the permissions to rw-r-r using the Properties menu while the APK is selected.
3) I tap the APK file and proceed with installing the APK. (Make sure unknown sources is checked in your settings)
If it is resistant to install, check the permissions again and check your applications to see if Voice Search with the old white logo is present. If it is not, reset your device. It should either show up after the reset or allow you to install. If you have programs, post them here.
Here is the proof

Time not updating in Sense?

This normally happens after I upgrade to a new ROM (doesn't matter which ROM) but not always.
I can have the HTC clock not displaying the right time, so for example:
- The big clock on the Home screen shows: 11:07.
- The little clock on the top right of the screen shows 11:18
- But if you press the big clock on the Home screen, it goes to World Clock and it actually displays the right time, which is say 11:36
Not sure why - sometimes 3-5 soft resets fix this, sometimes it doesn't. Anyone experiencing the same thing? I have G-Alarm and PhoneWeaver installed.
See attached screenshot

Disable time synchronizing in Phone settings.
Did you install a 01:02 clock flip fix?
Tried turning it off and reset, still the same.
I didn't install the clock flip fix. But even if I do, the clock on the task bar (top right) is still wrong (which is not part of the Manilla interface)
UPDATE: Anyway, after like 5 soft resets, problem seems to go away as usual..guess can't help it
Had such a problem on my old Hybrid ROM's. People where reporting it, however I personally never got it. So imho it's an issue with the timezone.
I've had exactly the same problem.
The time/clock in Sense seems to freeze on the hometab, but a smaller program (I use Battclock) is showing the correct time on the taskbar. If I go to "Start menu" and then back, the clock will flip and update correctly.
Haven't figured out the cause nor the solution. Anybody?
...and if it matters, I'm using "Co0kie's Home Tab" for modding the Home screen.
Easy. Just do a soft reset multiple times until it's fixed by itself somehow Make sure you turn off the time synchronization online like jackos said too
Firstly, turn the time zone synchronization is Phone settings.
If it doesn't work I'll provide you a bit more firmly steps.
PS Uninstall ANY 1:02 cloak fixes. There is imho just one version by amrullez (or whatever he is called, sorry) that actually doesn't freeze the cloak.
Thanks for your replies.
- I had Time sync. disabled under Phone settings, nevertheless, time freezing on home tab.
- I haven't installed any 1:02 fixes, but still the same clock freeze.
- Used both TouchLockPro and ManilaLock from Co0kie's Home Tab). Both of those lockers seem to display the time straight from Manila/Sense, so when the time froze on the Home tab, it was also frozen on the unlock screen (had to unlock each time and check the actual time on the taskbar (using Battclock).
I did find a "way" out of this (at least it has been working for almost a day now), although I'd like to find a more stable fix for this:
I installed the S2U2 locker (but I prefer other less memory demanding lockers). It seems as when S2U2 unlocks it "forces" home tab to refresh (similar to when I go to "Start menu" and then back). Will let you know if this fails.
Jackobs, have you got another way to fix this (especially so we don't have to depend on S2U2 or other "not quite" solutions)?

I'm using TouchLockPro too and I don't think that it does use the time from Sense
By the way, I'm Jackos not Jackobs Anyway Jacobs sucks, so please keep in mind that this coffee is ****
OK, be sure that the time isn't synchronizing with the internet. Sense -> Settings Tab -> Data Services -> Internet time sync -> Uncheck Get time from internet
Now the "hard" way. Usually the cloak freeze problem is related to autotimeupdate.exe. The file is in ROM, but we can just exclude it from loading at the start. Go to HKLM\init\ and delete the key called autotimeupdate.exe.
Remember, that I have never got this issue, but I had similar problems with my old Hybrid ROM's and a lot of users reported back that the issue is fixed by deleting this registry key.

Totally agree on TouchLockPro not using the time from Sense, but since it shows the Home tab with the flip clock "in the background" the time isn't correct when you want to quickly check the time (although the time on the little taskbar clock is right, but not quite as handy).
Also, all apologies for the name misunderstanding, Jackos, my bad =)
Will revert back to TouchLockPro from S2U2, see if the time continues to freeze as before, if so apply your fix and report if it keeps freezing.
Many thanks Jackos!!

Who wants to try and get the S-Voice apk working?

The S-Voice apk was just posted in the S3 area http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26293573&posted=1#post26293573
I've installed it on my GNEX and it installed fine, made it through the tutorial as well, but it crashed when I tried to change the wake up phrase. Anyone care to give it a shot at making it work? I was going to start with something simple like editing build.prop but I can't seem to find any info on what the S3 is listed as.
It's now working perfectly!! Nex7er in the Note forum discovered if you install the app from system/app it works perfectly and I can confirm it runs perfect on the nexus!!!

I installed on latest CM9 nightly, no issues here. I installed it normally without being in system folder.
Edit:
Seems too clunky and pointless/useless. I can do all those commands by tapping the screen manually and I'll know they are correct rather than relying on a sketchy voice to text algorithm.

To each his own I guess. As a guy with only one arm I can state for me, it is MUCH easier and faster to say "new dental appointment, June 5th at 9am and then confirm with yes then it is to:
open apps, select calendar, click the month view tab, flip to June, click on the 5th, select "new" on the 9am tab and then type out dental, etc...
Running bamf/jamesbond and get a force close on it
Cleared data on it and reloaded... Skipped trying to set a new wakeup and it will go through to asking me "which app do you want to open "
Unfortunately no matter what I say she comes back with that same line.
Of course, restarted again and didn't bother to wake her up... And now commands work.
Tried and seems to work pretty good
Tried setting an alarm but couldn't save for some reason.
Same here can't save alarms...

Probably it's searching for SGS3 alarm app
Can confirm that adding appointments and checking weather work though.
Timer will work as far as countdown, but doesn't seem to hook into any vibrate/ring function to notify you when it finishes.
It took me a few tries, and I only got it to install by skipping the setup part of it. The apk claimed I already had s voice installed. And, when I went to remove it, because it crashed despite installing it from system/app, it only gave me the option to remove updates. I'm running stock ROM and kernel. Unfortunately, I don't see how to get to settings for it, so I'm stuck calling it "Hi Galaxy!"
Here is a copy of the APK if anyone wants it
Been using it for quite some time, actually. It's been called into Axiom roms for awhile now.

If the alarm worked - it'd be fastest to set alarm that way.
Also, the timer would be nice if it actually did something when the countdown finished.
Little things like that I could see it handy for... plus for answers you'd look up on google, could be quicker to answer at times.
Installed it like any other apk. I am stock and not rooted. And it has worked tip top since the start

After some digging I found that with the Galaxy Nexus at 4.0.4 is having issues because its based off of 4.0.3 Workaround is to install the app under system/apps instead of regular installer. I used root explorer and had R/W enabled placed the file and opened/installed from their.

Questions regarding the latest ICS Update

I have a couple questions regarding the ICS update, as I flashed FF18 One-click root last night.
1) What happened to the screen capture shortcut?
2) I know that the Data Roaming notifications are a little buggy, is there any way to permanently disable them? Either through removal of a apk file, or something else?
3) Is there a reason for such the quick battery drain? I had it charged to near 100 percent last night, so I unplugged it and left it connected to WiFi over night (that was ~7 hours ago). When I woke up, the battery level was at 52, and after 30 minutes of light use (browsing the web with chrome, looking at settings, and configuring tasker with an attempted "Theft Profile it was down to 38.
4) With ICS comes a new way to incorporate applications and what not, generally I like to remove as many homebrewed apps (like Social Hub for example) when I first flash the device. Is there a list of safe ICS applications to remove?
I am sure I will have some more questions over time as my dad gets the upgrade himself, he will be asking me questions as well, but those were the ones that were on the top of my lsit.
Thanks
1) it's power + volume down now, just hold it for 1 second.
2) I haven't gotten one yet since the update, but if they are like they were, there's that checkbox on the notification to permanently dismiss it
3) I had the same thing yesterday, on day 1 of my ICS update. Seems slightly better this morning, but we'll see... this morning I've used 6% of my battery in 34 minutes since unplugged, with about half of that time awake with screen on. One thing I'm suspicious of is the new Sprint ID switcher thing.
The good: Open it. Switch from "Samsung" ID pack to "My ID" pack. Bam. Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich launcher, no TouchWiz.
The bad: Download "Home Manager" app from Play market. Observe both "Launcher" and "TWLauncher" are running. ...and if you had a third party launcher like I do (Go Launcher EX), you probably ALSO see that one "running". You can use this app to kill the others, but it seems temporary, although I've been switching and configuring and have only used it 1 day. Having 2-3 launchers simultaneously seems like that could use a little more battery to me.
4) Can't tell you that, I'd think whatever the old GB list was would still be valid, as a baseline, and maybe you'll find more you can remove later.
Personally, I think the "better safe than sorry" route is to install a rooted kernel with a recovery, take a nandroid backup, so that if you delete an app that's "not safe", you can restore your nandroid and be back in business.
1) Thanks, that was bugging me.
2) This is because I am in a low signal area and switching back and forth between towers.
3) I don't have an issue with the launcher (I also froze the TWLauncher application though):

Battery stats: http://imgur.com/a/7zLjf#71
4) Will just have to start freezing things and finding out what doesn't work I guess.
5) Is it normal for the apps to be randomly force closing, stalling, black screening, unresponsive? Unfortunately, I can't wipe dalvik cache without custom recovery (or if I can, I don't know how)?

If you are rooted, you can wipe dalvik-cache using Auto Root Option E and choosing wipe dalvik cache.
Auto Root can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
You can also just do it from an adb shell
su
rm /data/dalvik-cache/*
reboot
Thanks sfhub, I will try that. EDIT: sfhub. that didn't seem to work:
(see attached picture)
END EDIT
The battery issues are still a huge concern for me. I am getting 4 - 6 hours less than my average:
http://imgur.com/a/C1RKH#0
All of these were taken today with low - normal usage. Checking e-mail, sending a small amount of text messages, browsing web, using Google Translate.
Has anyone else lost swipe with the new update?

[Guide] How to record your Androids screen [root required]

One of the things that I have struggled with is finding a screen recording app that actually works. Some have seemed promising, but have failed to deliver, or even work for that matter. If you're like me, this has been the cause for some frequent hair taring out.
Have no fear, for I have found a work around.
This is a guide to help you record your Androids screen, and even its audio (mic & system)
What you will need:
A rooted device.
Airdroid installed on that device (free app in the play store)
A computer (I tested this with Windows 8, but I'm sure it can be done on a Mac)
A software that allows you to record a region of your computers screen ( I use Snaggit, which is a paid software *cough* torrent)
And a strong WiFi connection (Both the computer and device have to be connected to the same network)
Let's get started...
Step 1: Install Airdroid from the play store, then switch on WiFi, and connect.Then launch airplay on your device.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2: Make sure your computer is connected to the same WiFi network as your device, and go to the Airdroid site and scan the QR code.
Step 4: On the Airdroid site in your browser, click on "Screen shot"
After clicking the screenshot icon, your android will ask for root permissions. Once you've granted the superuser permissions, you will see a live screen shot of your androids screen on the website.
Step 5: On to Snaggit-- Open it and make sure you select region in the drop down after clicking where shown below.
Step 6: Almost done! go back to airdroid site, full screen the screen that displays your androids screen, and make sure to raise the slider all the way to the rabbit on the right of the screen. This will make sure there is no delay in screen recording.
Step 7: Open Snaggit back up, and make sure it is set to "video", then press the 'prt scn' key on your keyboard, then simply crop the area you want to record, and hit record! That's it!
I'm not sure about other softwares, but snaggit even has a convenient options for uploading to popular video sites, such as you tube, but you can always save what you have recorded and upload it yourself as well.
I hope this was informative.
Have fun!
Thank you so so much! I have literally tried EVERY app available and then some with no avail. This did the trick for me and i greatly appreciate you sharing your find! I like making you tube videos but have been struggling ever since i got my s3. It is no longer a struggle, Thanks again!
I have tried all the apps out there, and this is the only work around i could figure out. Glad i could help.

Teamviewer Quicksupport.
The free program Teamviewer Quicksupport allow you to remotely control your Samsung phone from your PC. I've used it with my AT&T S3. You could then use your screen recorder software to capture video of it. It is another alternative.
Here is a link to a video on youtube of the program working.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emDsCMKmkew
This is a link to it on the Play Store.

The fastest thing I have seen is Screencast. Records video directly to your phone, not requiring a PC. And currently the only software that is able to record gameplay at a somewhat decent framerate.

Yes, for video is great, but for video+sound... Options for sound is on (source mic) and off - no sound at all.
This is a great work around! Thanks for the find. I do wish there was a proper way to do this on-device but at least it is now possible!
At first, whenever I would press the screenshot button it would do nothing, but a simple reboot fixed it :good:

Jaxbot's Native Notification Center for Windows Phone 7.8

Weird thing i found is how invisible this release from WPH is.
The Notification Center, the dream of every Windows Phone is forgotten !
I tested the app on my own phone... it doesn't work. OK, but still i found absolutely no thread about this Xap, i think it could be developped if known better (jaxbot has retired from the WP7 scene i think, so i guess he won't do it. We can be grateful for this very good start)

Here is his the presentation of the app found i here
There's been more opposition for this project than with... well, I tried to come up with a good joke, but let's cut to the chase.
I've decided to release a rewrite I made of Notifications. It only works on full unlocked devices. Here's the details:
This app caches the push notifications sent to your phone. So if someone mentions you on Twitter, and you miss the toast, it will appear in Notifications.
This app does not cache non-push messages, such as texts, emails, calls, etc.
Complete rewrite; it works differently than the original Notifications app. No PC tether, no external servers, etc.
The NC service runs on the device. This is why you need your device to be full unlocked.
I'll repeat that. It must be full unlocked, meaning you must be able to run EXE programs on it.
The setup is simple. Download and install it to your device. Run the app, and it should take you to the setup page. Press install, then agree to the disclaimer. It will prompt you to reboot. Do so, and with any luck, it'll work.
I'm releasing it without support. Notifications works for some people, doesn't for others. The problem is likely to do with full unlocking. If you have a custom ROM that is fully unlocked, it should work. As for EXE unlocking rooted devices, it may be hit or miss. We'll see on that.
The source is available on Github. Download the XAP here: ncroot1.xap. If you didn't read anything else: You need a policy unlocked or full unlocked device. If your device is not full unlocked, read the instructions appended below.
Also, if you want to test if it works, install SimplePush. It'll send a quick toast to your device.
Other than that, enjoy. I'm curious to see what the feedback is, and whether or not it works in certain scenarios. I don't know what the demand is to keep working on it, but here it is, and with that, enjoy.
Update: Should now work on interop-unlocked devices, provided you use WP7 Root Tools. To do this, install the XAP, mark it as "Trusted", run Notifications, click Install, and reboot your phone. Presto. Do give feedback on whether or not this works.

It's just a http server written using .Net (not silverlight), that listens for every push notification. But I really don't know what we can develop in this application. Any idea?
well personnaly i don't like the idea to have notification push making my phone ring every minuts (if i'm active on facebook or twitter).
So i use snotify to silence the notifications. This app would be ideal to tell me what did i miss on what app.
That's an exemple for one use, but i'm sure there is many others.
Actualy for twitter, my dream would be an app that puts in cache every tweets i missed (or the number of tweet i missed, even if i'm not mentionned, or every tweet from some selected profiles) so i would know if its worth opening the app or no (instead of checkin every 10 mins if there's something interesting) but we're maybe out of subject !
Any idear why it wouldn't work on my device btw ? I am full unlocked (septvies's devbuild_8862 1.5) on samsung Omnia 7
