You can't flash firmware (FTF) from your phone. You have to use flashtool.
Im talking about .zip files like apps and tweaks NOT FIRMWARE. Ftf NOT FIRMWARE reeeeeead next time thanks for the reply tho

To help gain some clarity, as you've not provided some crucial information:
Do you have root?
Did you actually install CWM?
If you've done both of these you can flash any zip that was made for the LT28. If you're trying to flash a zip for another model it's likely not going to work. I avoid flashing mods, opting instead to install them manually.
All of this is covered in the ion forum if you bothered to reeeeead.
I thought it was a givin that I had root I spose not tho I was pretty clear. The only reason I was a bit curt was because I had "not roms" in brackets.
The zip files im trying to install have to do with the audio player so they are probably more of a driver type thing. My firmware is stock, rooted CWM Rom is not installed I have the CWM app and it says there is no recovery for this phone stock ics rooted locked boot. And yes I have been searching but havent found much useful yet.

You need to connect device to computer for almost all aspects. Root , cwm, mods etc.
You need to solve the pc issue first then look into mods and such.
Also if root you can manually replace the file with root explorer from the extracted zip

Type this "cwm recovery for xperia ion" or this "clockwork recovery for xperia ion" in google search and come back and tell us what you found.
Our phones will not boot into recovery from cwm all we really have is flashmode. Yes some zips can be flashed through cwm such as themes and what not from the Xperia s but you need to match mounting points and what not, if you flash a bad zip you may get a boot loop if that's the case just shut the phone off then run flashtool reflash the. Ftf and you'll be fine.

Make sure you have recovery manually installed, either through installing the recovery itself, or flashing a kernel. Otherwise, you don't have a recovery to access at all.

Did you install it through an app? If so, the app should have a "reboot into recovery" option. If not, download the xperia cwm app from the play store.

?
You'll need to flash a new kernel to have permanent recovery, without the app method. Search the development forum for the numerous kernels.

Good call by Joe here. Installing the app does not install CWM. You have to run the app to do that. Also, I don't know if that app works if you have an unlocked bootloader.

Go to thelink I posted. All the way right is a download column. Clck on the icon there.
You must be 100% stock to flash. Stock recovery, stock modem, stock build with no mods.
Flash from stock recovery, or Mobile Odin. NOT reg Odin.
Mobile Odin Pro is a very essy way to keep root.
Or use OTA rootkeeper. But if you factory resey during the process it may lose root regardless.
Also, remember this is untested by anyone here. And we have little info on it. Its most likely ok, but at your own risk and all!

Hi
I'm new to android and is kind of confusing to me on how everything works. Right now I have a at&t Galaxy s3 running android version 4.0.4. I've been wanting to upgrade to the latest jelly bean version. I did try upgrading from the software from Samsung Kies but it does not want to work, it does not recognize the phone completely. I am rooted (Kernel version - 3.0.8) and also I have a rom installed (Triune II) that I basically do not remember how I did it. All I want is to find a way to install the latest jelly bean software on my phone. I did search the forums here at XDA developers website but cannot find a way to do it since there is so many roms and software's to choose from and I'm worried about breaking my phone since I do not know exactly which one to download. I don't know how everything with android really works with all the Kernels and all these things. I would appreciate if anyone could help me with this issue. Please!!!
Thanks
Nelson
You didn't search but its OK
You can't upgrade rooted devices via Kies.
If you were able to flash one custom rom you should be able to do it again by simply following directions on a ROMs thread.
Look for your desired ROM (the name and android version is the name of the thread)
And just follow instructions and you should be set

Yes after you're rooted you can go from 4.0 to 4.2
Make sure your recovery is up to date.
If its not you can find the latest in the ATT Android Development thread
When flashing AOSP based ROMs like Liquid Smooth make sure to follow the instructions and download both ROM and Gapps files and flash them both ( 1st ROM than Gapps) and you should be set.

I recommend trying them all out!
No ROM will be better than another.
It all comes down to you and the features you want. Read the ROMs description and see what they're packed with.
Watch a YouTube video or read up on how to wipe your cache & delvik, factory reset and all that before flashing so you boot up with out errors.
Its quite easy and fun.

Yes once they're downloaded flash thru recovery but remember to wipe! And make sure what you have downloaded is absolutely for the US veriant of the S3 or has d2att in the name.

Flash Zips without a recovery
This is not my work, I am just sharing it since it is an app worth to install
What is Flash Gordon? Flash Gordon is an Android App ( Apk ) that allows you to flash zips without recovery, In simpler terms you can flash those zips you want to install without CWM or TWRP
Important NoteSince this is just an early development stage of the app, Flash Gordon cannot be used to flash ROMs yet since certain system files crash the phones when they are replaced while the phone is on
Requirements- A rooted phone
InstallationJust install the apk
How do you use flash Gordon
1) Scroll up and choose select zip
2) After that if the zip requires you to wipe anything just check those boxes but if not press flash now
3) Make sure that the zip you are gonna flash has no spaces on the name or periods comma an TM signs otherwise it won't work
DisclaimerUse at your own risk, I will not be held responsible for bricked devices or the like
DownloadsFlash Gordon.apk: http://d-h.st/VIw
Please hit thanks if it works

Is you phone fully rooted? If not it might not work. The mod also works for me which means that there is nothing wrong with the mod but there is something wrong with your device.

..or how the phone is rooted!
Yep true forgot to mention that and sometimes Flash Gordon doesn't recognize files if the file's name has symbols in it, I had the same problem with flashing a another file so I removed the symbols init such as full stop, dash etc, it worked.

If your phone is DEODEXED then go for it otherwise don't flash SystemUI as it will crash it and get you in bootloop.

Dude I don't think it's a good idea to flash a custom kernel on a locked bootloader + I think you cannot install custom kernel on locked bootloader.
I'm unable to flash xposed-arm-20150308.zip in CM12
Will try to Fix the Issue on Odexed Roms
