Working Bluetooth Tether on leaked JB rom Galaxy SIII - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I am running freeza’s “Sprint Touchwiz Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Leak (L710SPRBLIH)” Odex. As any of you that are running JB know, wifi tether is not working. Although I have used wifi tether exclusively in the past, in attempting to use “WiFi Hotspot / WiFi Tether” by Innodroapps (free in Market), I was able to use Bluetooth tether to run my iPad. When I select “Wi-Fi Tethering” on the opening screen, I go to a screen on which I can select “Bluetooth tethering.” I select it, turn on Bluetooth on my iPad and voila. Hopefully, this helps someone out there. I will be Bluetooth tethering until the app guys out there modify wifi tethering to work with Jelly Bean.
UGH - trouble working this a.m. It appears that it may have only worked last night b/c my cell was tethering to my router at the time. Sorry.

Thanks for trying to find a solution for JB tethering but that app you are using is only a shortcut to the tether settings on our phones. It is not a hack which provides free tethering and here you go, enjoy your first thanks!

Anyone get the built in wireless hotspot working?

I have a rooted Droid Incredible running Cyanogen 7. I have never been able to get the built in wireless hotspot functioning even when I was running Cyanogen 6. Here is what is happening:
I can turn on the wireless hotspot feature and my laptop is able to see the SSID. When I try to connect the connection is unsuccessful. It looks like it it hanging at obtaining an IP address.
I was able to get the Wireless Tether app from the market to work but when I use it I have to turn it on once then turn it off then turn it on once again in order to be able to connect to the SSID. The other issue is that when I activate it my notification bar shows the Wireless Tether connection active as well as an icon for the built in wireless tethering. Its not a big deal but it clutters my notification bar and it annoys me.
Can someone give me some help getting my build in wireless tethering working?
The problem with the built in tether is once you go over a certain limit verizon will start charging you, so I would recommend using the free tether app man.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
What would be the difference between wireless tether app and the wireless tether built in to cm7? Why would Verizon charge for one but not the other?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Because Verizon gets notified when you use the built-in tether, if you use the one on the market they will beverages know.
I stopped using cm7 because of that same tether issue, but for me the internet wouldn't work at all, my pc would connect to the "android tether" just fine, but no internet feed.
killing in the name of...
As I understand it the only way you would be charged is if you're using Verizon's tethering app, which is separate from the built in tethering in CM7.
Yes, this is true, but even with that my pc and 360 would connect with it, but still no internet. But with any other Rom (stock included) it would work beautifully!!!!!

I noticed this for the first time today with CM7 which I installed on Friday. Will have yo try the new final to see if the wireless tether works. Would be very disappointed if it doesn't work! I don't want to go back to Virtuous.
Sent from The Incredible.
I don't really use it but I tested it and it works fine for me.
I guess I don't really mind using the wireless tether app from the market but there are issues.
1. How do you stop both icons from showing in the notification tray?
2. How do you stop the app from showing updates with the new market? The newest versions don't work on the incredible.

[Q] Portable Hotspot

I have a Sprint TP2 and have loaded the latest FRX07 build. Under Wireless & Network Settings, there's an option for tethering and portable wifi hotspot .
I have tried this feature and it works great, including on my non-rooted Asus Transformer, which doesn't accept Ad Hoc connections.
I realize most people use third party applications like Barnacle to wifi tether. Barnacle however creates an Ad Hoc, which can be used by the laptop, but not the Transformer.
Is there a reason to avoid the built in feature in Android?

I prefer the built-in wifi hotspot as well - the only reason to avoid it would be if it doesn't work - some have issues when you disable wifi tethering, it won't re-enable at best, and at worst it reboots the phone.
I just tried it and couldn't get it to work, but I have in the past - if it's working for you great! I don't see any reason you can't continue using it. Like you already said, it throws up an actual AP as opposed to an ad-hoc network - which is fantastic.
The wifi tether worked in the past (frx05 I think). The only gotcha is that whenever you went to activate WiFi tethering, you would need to go into the settings and hit OK without changing anything.
The reason for this is that the WiFi driver seems to ignore the settings passed on by the tether app until it's reapplied via hitting OK. The only other thing to note is that AFAIK the power-down code from the WiFi is still missing, so it might create a power drain even after turning off tether(wifi).

Thanks for the responses.
I boot into android and once it finishes initializing, I select the hotspot to on, and it connects to the Transformer. All the apps appear to have access to internet.
Thanks for the tip on the powerdrain. I'll keep an eye on it.
I"m finding it very glitchy with the FRX07 and the default wifi tethering. However, Barnacle wifi tether is working without any problems. I even got a reboot once from using the default tethering. Just thought I let you guys know. Not sure if the 3rd party app will be slower or not though.

Barnacle works, but uses ad-hoc instead of an actual AP. The built-in wifi tethering never really quite worked right...
There's also the XDAndroid wifi tethering app - just like Barnacle, it creates an adhoc network.

[Q] ICS:: So what is it not allowing Wifi tether to work?

Im on FB21 with the rest of the crazies I have still yet to get any sort of wifi tether to work. I am using easy tether for some devices but I need to get back to connecting my gtab to my phone I miss it ..
Is it just me (anyone else had any luck?) or this an inherent problem with early release? Just curious, thanks!
I too have been unable to find a functioning wireless tether ability... though i am using PDA net via usb to tether, and it works flawlessly.

Also Bluetooth tethering works

I went back to Calks 2.9 because there is no other way to get my touchpad online on the go. I love ICS but I have to have functionality. Touchpad can't tether via Bluetooth.

[Q] Bluetooth Tethering Not Working?

I am trying to tether my Nexus 7 to my Ion using Bluetooth tethering, but for some reason cannot get it to work. I have both devices paired, when I activate the tethering on the phone, and click on Bluetooth Tethering to select it, I get a message about ongoing operations being interuppted. and then the tethering window closes. Under paired bluetooth devices on the tablet, if I press Use For Internet Access, it does nothing. My phone is running the following version:
Model Number - LT28h (flashed from stock AT&T)
Android Version - 4.0.4
Baseband Version - 9x00b-scaqcszq-34702090-23
Kernel Version - 3.0.8+1.0.21100-30145-01972-g0f71270
Build Number - 6.1.E.3.7
I have not tried USB tethering, but WiFi tethering does work correctly. However, I want to use bluetooth tethering for various reasons, not least of which is battery life. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Edit: OK, so I installed a Bluetooth Auto Tether app, which allowed me to use Bluetooth tethering, I am not sure why I cannot simply select it in the tethering options, but with this app installed I can. If the app works, then I will leave that on, but am kind of hoping I can find a way to remove the app and just switch it on the same way I would wifi tethering.

Paranoid Android 4.2.2 (3.15) tethering

I've been using ParanoidAndroid on my Note II and recently I realized that wifi tethering does not work. The service indicates it is active but it does not transmit a wireless network name, so no device can connect to it by wifi. Bluetooth tethering works. I have tried 3rd party rooted apps and they indicate that the cannot run because ad-hoc mode cannot be entered. Is there anything I can do like change the kernel or some other mod or app that is able to run tethering? Or do I need to just wait for the developer to provide an updated rom that fixes this?
wifi tethering doesn't work
that's exactly what i'm getting too, error starting ad-hoc mode... hope this gets fixed :crying:
