[Q] "Pull"/export theme from phone? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does anyone know of a way to "pull" or export a theme from the phone?
I have applied a theme and have tweaked it with some other mods (e.g. custom lock ring, changed some colors here and there). What I would like to be able to do now, is to export my tweaked "theme". So I can use it later via theme chooser or metamorph.
Anyone know of a way of doing this? If someone could create an app to do this, I'm sure they could make a little cash for it.

Yes, there is an app called ZipThemer. It creates a flashable zip of your installed theme

ZipThemer will partially/mostly work. I don't see where it would pick up any color changes I've made, wallpapers (lockscreen, home screen, notification pulldown), etc. It's more for taking different mods and putting them all together into one zip. What I am looking for is a way/app that can grab all of the aspects of my current setup and make either a theme chooser apk or a flashable zip. It would be kinda like a nandroid but with out the ROM. Maybe some dev will see this idea and jump on it. :fingers-crossed:

How does the theme manager on CM 7 work

I dont see any options to import themes. How does it work?
I poked around on the wiki but I dont think it has been updated yet

If the developer makes a theme that is theme manager compatible, you install the apk. Then you check theme manager and you install it. The honeybread theme works this way, for example.
Ah ok so it uses apks. Thanks

Yes the themes are apks. Pretty much everything you need to know is in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948109
Basically you just download and install the apks just like they were apps. Some of them are in that thread and there are also some in the market. Then you just open up the theme chooser and pick what theme you want to use. After choosing your theme, you need to reboot because not all the changes are applied until after you reboot.

[Q] getting rid of dropdown animation

I flashed a nice theme but heat the heartbeat animation in the dropdown, makes my phone lag. Any way I can remove it with maybe an app like root explorer or ninjamorph? I just want that animation gone, thnx.

All that mod is, is a SystemUi.apk just move the original one to your sdcard and move to system app or where ever the apk is located in the Rom. Or just reflash the Rom.
If you reflash rom, you'll lose the rest of the theme that you like.
Best to just put both rom and theme zips on a PC, and use 7zip to put the systemUI apk from the rom into the theme zip. (Overwrite the one in theme zip)
However, you may lose themed icons in notification bar. So, to use a scalpel rather than a chainsaw, (and this may not work cuz I don't know how the heartbeat effect was implemented) use 7zip to open (not extract) theme zip. Find systemUI apk, open it, find images you don't like (prob in Res/drawableHDPI), and delete them.
Back out of archive, re-save, and reflash theme. Hope this helps at all.

A bunch jaja cause I have 4 Evos home till next weekend all with different themes, mine with Red Venom on Shooter v2.2, but one has a theme I dnt know which one and is on synergy and has the animation on the pulldown, but I ran the v6 script and it seems to have removed the overall lag on that phone and the pulldown doesnt lag either, so I'm pretty much good right now

you might wanna check out the Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen.
upload the theme you have and just edit "Status Bar" -> "Background". download and flash.

[THEME] Stevekixs Theme

This is my first time ever putting together a theme. I used UOT kitchen just to put something together. Its just black and blue with honeycomb icons.
I think it still needs some work, I'm not sure how to edit the colors of widgets or apps yet.
I am probably going to make some changes as I get better. If anyone has any advice then feel free to PM me.
Features : Custom Battery Icon
Honeycomb Icons
Black notification bar (transparent background)
Dark Blue overscrolls
Other slight Color changes
Kinda ugly I think... But Im sharing it anyway!
You should be able to flash via CWM.
BACK UP YOUR ROM BEFORE FLASHING JUST IN CASE.
NEW: Just edited some of the colors a bit And changed the battery icon.
Screenshots
(Not updated for new version) I will take new screenshots later. I am tired. The new colors are much better I think.
Changes
Please tell me what you like / dont like.
Looks great besides the battery icon, should be blue like the rest. Great work though and thanks!

Its honeycomb colored. But It changes color when your battery is at different levels.
At full charge it matches the rest of the honeycomb icons.
Im working on some tweaks already. I dont like the color of the pop up screens.
I understand, thanks a million, looks great so far. I'm excited to see where you take it.
Maybe I should research this kitchen stuff and take a shot at themes too!

You can do this by using a program like WinZip or 7Zip to open the APK files (they're effectively just .zip archives with a different extension) and changing the files. Its pretty easy save for the part where you have to make new images. Most images used in Android are .9.png files which need to be nine patched. There are tons of threads all over XDA about how to do this. Check it out, mate.
BTW nice work.

The short answer is yes. In theory you can use any icon on any app. The trick is putting it all together.
You have two options. You can either create a flashable theme our you could manually replace the icon file in the apk you are wanting to change it on.
The first takes time and know-how. The second requires more time and know-how but is probably easier.
But after looking at those icons I might be seeing if I can get permission to use then in a theme I've been playing around with. No promises but if it works out I'll forward it on.
So say if I want to change it in a theme..I just change them out an flash it?

You download the zip then extract with Root Explorer or similar app. Then the show in Gallery. You can generally use them for homescreen icons and such with s launcher that allows you to edit icons. I actually grabbed the same ones a few days ago and I use Nova launcher so I added some with that

Themeing cm9.

Would it work to theme the actual cm9 rom to get things themed that themes can't get such as lock screen? That's the only thing I can think of right now but I'm sure there's more things. Would this work or does the theme replace any files that would change whatever was changed from the original rom?

Yes it will work just fine. As long as the theme apk doesnt interfere with what your themeing it will be just fine. I'll break down what the theme is..
Essentially it is a redirection. It has the drawable folders just like the ROM for whatever DPI, in the epic's case HDPI. How it works is a redirection XML will shoot the application to another XML which is written to specify what goes where. Such as the status_bar... you would place that image in the Drawable-HDPI and the XML for the SystemUI.apk would be written for that [email protected]/status_bar.png if you catch my drift.
Of course its a bit more complicated but that is the essential. just an FYI if you decide to ever make one.
Ya I get what you're saying. I have thought of making a cm7/9 theme but never had time. But I think I want to just add a little more to the theme that hasn't been done.

Ya I know that I meant that they're both used the same way, like the lock screen isn't themed from the theme itself. I know that I can't use them on both roms lol. I may have asked a dumb question earlier about contacts but I'm not that much of a noob to try cm9 themes on cm7 lol. And the contacts was just because I don't have experience with cm9 lol this is the first time I ever ever actually use it lol.
