I`m using app2sd on my desire and have moved about half my apps to sd card, but i`m finding i`m still running out of phone memory, my fault for buying navigon i guess (26mb for that mother!).
Do apps that are installed to sd card still use some phone memory??
I`m also finding that once its down to anywhere below 15mb (notification of low space), I can no longer download anything from marketplace.
I have to uninstall an app then reboot.
I thought the whole idea of 2.2 was to move apps to sd card to free up phone memory but its not having the expected results with me.
Thanks

same thing with me
any solution or idea about this
thx a lot
If the app is stored on the SD the davilk cache might still be on phone memory, if it is it will still use phone memory.
I think that is indeed the case.
I have moved Angry Birds (13MB) from phone to SD card, and now I see it showing 1.6MB. Which means 1.6MB is still on phone memory and the rest on SD card.
Ok thanks for the replies.
But how about the downloads not starting even when I have plenty of space left.
Thanks

I get the 'out of space' error.
However, the SD/Phone card storage says my phone has 65mb free.
I install all my apps to SD, just wondering why, with 65mb free, it wasn't letting me install to the phone.
Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks

Yes, it seems 15mb is the minimum threshold on phone memory to download and install the apps.
Navigon takes 26MB? That's a lot!
I have Sygic Maps and it takes less than 7MB. I can move it to SD, but I leave it on phone memory for maximum performance.
Try App2SD application from Market (which can be installed and moved to SD card). You will get a nice overview of all the apps that can be moved. You can also see which apps are the biggest.
I've got more than 60MB free space now on phone memory.
Hey guys,
As you know internal memory is 1,5 GB for Desire HD. And as a newbie for DHD, May I ask is there any limitation or problem installing the apps into SD card via apps2sd or something like that? Can we install every apps into SD card?
Thanks for your replies in advance.
You can but what for?
I have about 55 apps installed right now and 0.9gb free. How many apps are you planning to install? 500?

Thanks pal, I am not sure since I have used Iphone there are many apps and games over 250 MB I thought the same for Android but I understand from your message it's not
I know what you mean I have come from a hd2 phone to the desire and loaded everything to the sdcard I have looked on the desire phone and there does not seem to be anything to say all apps or files to sdcard so I presume the desire does this auto ? or am I wrong.after all whats the point of the sccard if its just for music files and pictures and video if you cannot put all apps on this to ?
If you want to transfer apps to the SD card, just navigate to:
Settings--> Applications--> Manage Applications
Press on the app you like to transfer, and press "Move to SD card".
This doesn't work on every app, and it's not recommended to transfer some apps.
Thanks a lot.
Is there any way to find out which apss we should not transfer or the system already gives an error message If we do?
Some apps can't be moved to the SD card. These apps will have the "Move to SD" button greyed out.

Yeah, most games like Angry Birds and Pocket Legends (with some "weight") can be moved to the SD.
Don't move widgets to sd in most cases it will mess up the widget. Example poweramp widget will be messed up if app will be moved to sd, it's due to sd having delay only startup and somehow android cannot figure it out in think

Thanks a lot guys, from your experiences I understand that it's the best only games to move to SD not apps or widgets.
So my tablet is getting pretty full(its an 8gb), and I want to move some of my apps to my 16gb sd card, but I dont know how, I tried the Apps2SD app, but it doesnt seem to work. Can anyone help me out?
No, none of the Froyo/Gingerbread utilities work with Honeycomb due to the different memory arrangement. Here is some more discussion:

Ugh okay, so I can only delete apps to make room for others?
You can back up your apps to .apks on your external sd card, using either ES File Manager or Astro. That makes it easy to delete them and later re-install them.

Its been discussed pretty heavily in other threads, (using search will find them) just moving the app won't do a whole lot for you since the data for the app is still stored in the internal memory. I created a internal to external memory swap found in the development section to help with this problem but using a 16gb external card won't be a whole lot of extra space (although it'll still be better than the 5.7gb of space that the internal memory has for storage).
While it wont help with apps, most often its the apps data that is a problem not the app itself so I use the app GL to SD from the market
https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zbGYuTGlzdGdsQXBwIl0.
You have to be rooted but I find it works great. Its designed to store game data for Gameloft games on your SD card instead of your internal memory since most of them take in the neighborhood of 800MB a piece (or more) but it works for seemingly anything.
So far it has also successfully worked for every game I have used it on including GTAIII, Sonic CD, and Galaxy on Fire 2 to name a few.
It also lets you specify custom mount points for those apps that store their data in a weird space.
I tried the app2sd app and everything, but they dont seem to work at all, is there a guide out there or a app, or a root required way to move big games like amazing spiderman/dark knight rises to my 64gb ext sd card on my galaxy note 2? because i've been feeling like that sd card i bought with the phone is going to waste if i have to keep uninstalling games and installing ..
thanks in advance

Is there a way? I've tried Link2SD, Apps2SD and Titanium Backup and nothing works. I have games like Most Wanted and Modern Combat and take up 3GB already.

This has been asked a lot of times, so people won't rush to answer your question. I feel your frustration, however. Most people will suggest you just root as the be all to end all. But some people don't want to do that or don't really have the know how. At any rate, another argument is the internal memory is more than enough. Yeah, for people who just play basic games on their phones, and nothing more. For me... I am literally down to about 400MB of internal memory. I have REAL games installed on my phone, that take up GBs of memory, not mere MBs. I, too, have Need For Speed Most Wanted, in addition to GTA III, Asphalt 7, and a few other games that all take up over 1 gig of memory. I bought this 64GB memory, thinking I wasn't going to have anything to worry about, only to find out Samsung found another way to screw us over. It's like AT&T and Samsung have been working hand-in-hand to find ways to limit us. My card is basically useless. I use it for all the movies, songs, and TV programs I have... but I mostly got it for storing my apps.

I see, I appreciate you replying. Sorry for this thread but I do have one more question, about Titanium Backup. I want to make my micro sd the backup location but it isn't letting me. I'm copying the backups via My Files from internal to external. Will it work if I delete the original?

Again, sorry I can't be of more help. I haven't used Titanium Backup since around 2010 or so. I haven't rooted a phone since. I don't remember much about how the apps functions. Don't give up. People will respond to you, they just won't be too quick.

I don't know any way to get around this stuff without rooting... I'm using Directory Bind to move gameloft and EA games along with the cloudcache from the dropbox app. I couldn't get much of anything else running the way I wanted...
I move lots of big files to sd using directory bind. It has been working good for me.

Titanium Backup > Menu > Preferences > Backup folder location
I used ES File Explorer to create a folder on my SD card for this purpose and than selected it as the backup folder.

I know you can copy the backup file to your ex. SD card. You might get an error "checksum missmatch" when you restore it from the phone recovery. I know it will work when you flash it with oden. When you make the recovery. It stores it as a xxxxxx.md5: xxxxx.tar :xxxxximg files
Personally. I would copy the original file to your computer incase you need to restore it later via Odin.
Stock roms are available at Sam mobile forums.:good:
Swap memory cards
I found this script that turns your extSD card into your internal and vice versa. The script can be set to run on boot and so far for me it seems to be working with no apparent problems!
I'd post my screen shot and link to the video but rules about new members wont allow me.
youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00
seems a lot of people have errors that come up after a while about the scripting method
Ya, I heard about people having issues but so far I haven't had many. .. other than using ROM toolbox to run the script at boot because s manager would not run it at boot and you would have to run manually, which wasn't bad but I like not to have to think about it. Also, I haven't gotten close to filling up the 16gb which is also where I guess people have issues.

I'm not an expert (nor am I affiliated in any way with the developer) and YMMV, but I've had great success using the app GL to SD (available in the Play Store) to move game files onto the external SD card. To name just a few I have NOVA 3, Jet Set Radio, NFS Most Wanted, GTA Vice City, FIFA 12 on my Note 2 (16GB) and my internal storage sits at 2.68GB's. Before I rooted my phone with all the apps I had I didn't have room for the games I wanted, but now I have all the apps I want and space to spare.

Yes
This works - thanks dude! Finds all internal sd data and move to external sd. But you have to ensure the correct folder paths are set first and then use the menu options. Transfers one game at a time (even though it seems allow you to select multiple at one - tick only one each time). Also free on google play store

Aw nuts. I got my hopes up. It's only for GameLoft games (hence the GL I guess). I was hoping to move TTS and GPS offline maps and such.

Nope - if u go to settings and move to sd it will show data that can be moved - most are game data though. (also allowed me to move google earth and ebooks to sd too)
It says it's only for Gameloft games but to me it "seems" to move data from other games and programs as well. If one of the more expert members of the board could try out the program and say what's actually happening that would be great. Because based on what I can see the program does more than just address data from Gameloft games.
