How can I unroot my kindle fire - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Ice-cream sandwich installed on mine using the Energy rom. I'm looking to sell it, so I want to unroot first. I believe I have a backup of the Kindle Fire stock os, but once I back up, how can I unroot it?

I believe once you flash the update, it removes root access and returns it to factory stock. I did that with mine a couple months ago with the 6.3.1 update because something messed up and had to re-root it from the point.

Whatever you do, don't forget to wipe system and factory reset.

They ordered me a replacement phone and I want to be ready to take this one back as soon as they text me but I was gonna just leave the phone rooted so I can still have my wifi tether until I take it in
Install the stock RUU. This will revert your phone to it's original state, unrooted, no custom recovery, original bootloader. This will also remove root. I don't know how you would install the stock bootloader/recovery on its own.
If it's for replacement purposes, my suggestion is just wait until the replacement arrives and then install this RUU.

[Q] Hey gais! Help me out a bit.

So i update to the new Evo update and i get stuck on a black screen with an android guy confused as hell with a triangle...whas mean?
what state was the phone in before u tried to update. was it rooted, custom recovery, completely stock?
...another victim.
You tried booting into recovery, but stock recovery is no recovery, marked by the triangle and red !. If you're still s-off, flash a recovery, CWM or amon_ra, then flash a rom.

That's stock recovery
I would say pull the battery and leave it for 10 minutes or so. Worked for me once in the past. Hope that helps. Good luck!
it was rooted with the newest (nightly) of CM7, i booted into clockwork mod recovery cause i wanted to switch to stock so i could recieve new update. so i cleared all my data then performed a recovery that put me to the stock ROM (rooted) then cleared phone again to have a total fresh install and then searched for the update and downloaded it and tried installing it but its all like, HEY YOU CANT DO THAT DLFJOEIFJDKFJDF. Halp.

Boot into the bootloader, turn your phone off, while turning it on, hold the vol+down key till you see a white screen with androids skateboarding. At the top you'll see either s-on or off; If s-off, reflash a recovery via PC36IMG, then flash another rom.
okay, i am s-off so basically find a stock ROM flash it then check for the update?

No...the rooted stock OTA roms aren't out yet. Probably by the end of the day. Just flash a rom and just coast till now; like I said, virus should have it by the end of the day.
Okay, I mean my phone works and everything I'm just on the stock rooted ROM (previous to the newest 2.3) I'm just a little confused as to how its not letting me update, I thought the fact that i was rooted didn't really matter cause it would just unroot and wipe out everything.
Triangle Update Error
I am getting the same triangle update error. I have a rooted phone using unrevoked 3. My buddie has the same set up and we both are getting the error. We are trying to un-root our phones to a stock rom but neither of us can find one that removes unrevoked root. Can anyone help. I am a web/graphics computer guy. I don't know much about roms.
Thanks,
Nick

Well if you're on aosp, you can't update, you'd have to be on a sense rom. And you should never accept an OTA while rooted, as it can brick your phone, or permanently use root.
i am on a sense ROM its the stock ROM and i just ran unrevoked.

Questions with root! Help needed!

So today im going to flash a new rom on my Dinc. It was rooted before but the SD card that was in it is the one here in my tbolt. Can I flash a new rom on the Dinc? Or will it not work? Is it still rooted? How do I find out? I thought I could do a factory wipe on the phone to make it "stock" but my phone still ended up with the old rom. What should I do? I don't want to brick my phone. My gf will be unsing it soon.

If you still have a custom recovery on your phone, it's rooted. In order to return to the stock ROM, you must flash the stock ROM. If you want to go completely back to stock and unroot, then follow the return to stock directions. Here, let me google that for you.

[Q] Will I lose root if...?

I just got this tablet yesterday. It came with Honeycomb and I did an upgrade to have ICS on it. Than I rooted it with "Simple Method" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
So I am just rooted stock. Not even CWM.
If I do a factory reset will I lose root access and need to root again?
Thank you for any ifo!

No you won't lose root. You may lose super user app, just download it from play store again, back to normal.

[Q] Update Kindle Fire 8.9 and Maintain Root

Hi guys!
I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9. I rooted it a while ago using KFFirstAide and bricked it for a while but eventually got it up and running and rooted. An OTA update reset it back to stock. I was able to re-root and disable OTA updates.
Now I see there's a new version of the Fire system - 8.4.6 (I am still on 8.3.0). Is there a way to update to the latest version and retain everything as set, or will I need to just install the update then re-root with KFFirstAide or similar?
Thanks!

You can use KFFA to stop OTA updates. Otherwise when the update happens it will break your root and you will need to reroot your tablet again.
