Guys I'm coming from the OG Dinc and I have LOVED the phone. It just won't quit and its still supported by devs to this day running Jellybean. But the time has come to retire the Dinc and now I'm torn. I've been looking at the Nexus and the Razr M, both of which I can get for $50 upgrading via Amazon. I love flashing ROMs so I can have the latest and greatest so that's a little important but not imperative. What I want to know is, are the signal issues as widespread and horrible as some say or has it been fixed with 4.1. This is a BIG concern for me. Also how is the battery life? I don't mind charging my phone once daily (I'm charging my dinc twice a day now) or here and there but I've seen most people saying 4hrs screen on time with stock battery and I'd probably put the 2100 mAh batt in immediately. Is that a fair representation? All the Verizon reps act like I'm a lunatic for wanting a nexus over a razr maxx or sIII but I can't tell if their just trying to upsell me or not. Any help here would be VERY much appreciated. I'm just afraid that the Razr M will be locked down forever (not buying dev edition) and I'm also not a huge fan of the qHD display. :good::good::good:
Edit: As far as 4G, I probably wouldn't use it unless I wanted to watch a youtube video so I'd most likely leave it off during the day and use Wifi at home.
If you want to flash don't go with the razr. And done expect any updates for the razr either.

Signal now is ok... battery is the same... but materials... RAZR is better! (Very muchhhhhhhh)
It's the nexus forum and you're posting "Nexus or this phone" you're going to get biased post that says Nexus. If you went to the RAZR M section, people would say get the RAZR M.
I understand but sometimes you're hoping for an unbiased opinion. Just trying to get a feel for the signal problems mostly. Battery isn't a HUGH issue for me.
Either way, I went for the Nexus so fingers crossed that signal won't be a problem. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a locked down phone. Got the M for my wife.
I have a Nexus. Battery life is average, but since in the nexus it can be removed, you can replace that by buying an increased one (2000 mA, and has the same dimensions as the original)

The chances of getting a unbiased post is pretty close to slim. Rather than asking "phone A or phone B" maybe you should express general questions rather than asking users to make the decision for you and do the same on phone B's forum and determine what's the best phone for you.
Just being honest with you as I do see many threads similar to this one.
Battery life for me has been great (using Galaxy Nexus GSM). Cm10 + Franco Kernel + Extended 2000 mAh battery [genuine] from shimshop on ebay.
Performance = Razr M
Screen = Galaxy Nexus
Build Quality = Razr M
Always have the latest Android version = Galaxy Nexus

4.1.2 came out yesterday nexus has it that's the main advantage everything else is just about the except battery life RAZR is much better my friend pulls 16hrs

RAZR M isn't even worth it.
1) RAZR M launches with 4.0.4 (ICS). Motorola isn't very good when it comes to updating their devices, 4.2 is around the corner. By the time RAZR M gets JB (or maybe Motorola will say, its coming and it doesn't and then ends up being canceled), we'll have 4.2.
2) Battery on RAZR M is 2000 mAh, GSM Galaxy Nexus can get 2000 mAh by getting a extended battery (genuine with NFC ~$34)
3) Higher pixel density on Galaxy Nexus
4) Bigger screen on Galaxy Nexus

vs

Sure camera is better on RAZR M but in the end Galaxy Nexus still beats RAZR M overall just because of firmware updates.
Either that or wait for the next announcement of the Nexus (which you should do anyways) so in this case I would choose neither. Just wait for the Nexus announcement and proceed from there.
Razr Maxx is my work phone and if the Razr M has battery life better or equal to that, then you can run it without a charge for a very long time. Nexus is miles smoother though and it's easy to swap batteries, so I would still side to the Nexus. Going back and forth between the Nexus and One X running ViperX ROM and lately been straying to the One X more often as my daily phone.

M has the same battery as the regular RAZR and not the Maxx. Honestly the biggest thing the M has going for it in my opinion is the size, that intrigues me. But I'm not willing to give up Dev support and the ability to basically whatever I want with it.
Motorola is not the way to go. Avoid at all costs. I previously owned the Atrix and disliked having to wait so long for an upgrade, for a device that isn't that old and has decent specs. Besides, the motto is "Nexus Is A Developers Device". Guaranteed great development.

Thanks guys. The fact that the M is locked down pushed me to the nexus. Got the M for my wife who could care less about ROMs and rooting. Still worried about the non-removable battery on the M as she has had 2 batteries fail on her in her Incredible. Not really intrigued by the new nexus much at this point as its not a huge jump from the current one IMO. And for $50 you can't beat that. I appreciate all the opinions. Looking forward to moving over to the nexus forums from the Dinc.:good:

Hey there. I currently use the iPhone 4 on Verizon. I tried android before and had a Samsung Fascinate for about 10 months before switching to iPhone. The main reasons I switched were speed, efficiency, and a streamlined appearance. I needed a phone that just worked. The fascinate was beautiful, but it was laggy, stuck on 2.1 for FAR too long, and riddled with bloatware (BING, UGH!). I've been looking at the Droid Incredible and Droid 4, but they both seem lackluster. I DON'T want the Galaxy S3, I'm done with Touchwiz and rooting to get rid of it. The Nexus is a bit older now, but only $50 on a contract extension.
So, Nexus owners, do you love your phone? Would you buy it again? And is it worth it to upgrade to one now? I'm a little android-curious and I want to be assured that this phone is a winner!
Also, I'm used to wonderful battery life on my iPhone 4 (light use about 1.5 days). Can the GN compare?

Can definitely get a good day or two with light use out of the Nexus, everyone's idea of light use differs though.
I've previously owned an iPhone 4. Got to say, with Jellybean you get the same snappy OS feel minus the restrictions.
The camera isn't as good indoors, but much faster and outdoors pic quality is about the same.
If you want an Android device, then it is the one to have IMO.

The Nexus is without question the best android experience you can get currently. The only problem I had with Ice Cream Sandwich was the lag when using live wallpapers but Jellybean fixed that problem. Honestly smoothness of the Nexus with Jellybean is on par or slightly worse than the iPhone. If I was to get a phone right now I would definitely pick up the Nexus especially at 50 dollars, that said however I would personally wait a few months for the new Nexus phone/s to be announced.

I love the Galaxy Nexus. The biggest downside is the radio--it blows. It is close to seven months since release and none of the software radios have improved the signal quality significantly.
I was at a backyard BBQ this weekend and I couldn't get enough signal to access the internet with the phone. Right next to me was someone with the Bionic and another with the Thunderbolt, both on Verizon. They were both able to get enough bars (one) to access the internet. Here I am running JB and a nice custom kernel but unable to do anything meaningful with the phone in that backyard. GN fails all the time to grab signal where it should. I spent a lot of time inside of restaurants inside bars, clubs, people's houses without signal. What's the point of having the phone?
As for battery life, you have to change the mindset coming from iPhone with a sealed case. Batteries cost $4 each from China. I keep a few in my pocket when I go out. I typically do one or two battery swaps when I go out for the evening.
I'm wedded to this phone for now. I were in the market for a new phone, I would get the nicest Android phone with a replaceable battery that can be unlocked with a strong developer community. Whether the SIII or One X fits that bill, I don't know.
4 days on nexus and without JB it lags coming from S2 i9100.
on JB it rocks, really loving it.
only 2 issues....
no native T9 dialer, using ex dialer donate and plugins to fix the issue and looks
volume of the external speakers sucks, listening youtube videos is hell. (no solutions yet)
i like stock only so custom roms are out of question
For the price its a great device. I enjoyed it a lot. I upgraded to the GS3. The GS3 has all kinds of hardware upgrades over my GN but it also cost more. The camera upgrade is big. 2GB RAM is nice too. But for the price the Galaxy Nexus has some nice things going for it.

Well as someone who had the iPhone 4s and then moved to the Galaxy Nexus I can say without a doubt that the gnex is the best phone I've ever owned. This phone is a tinkerers dream.
I easily can get a days use with juicy defender (7am-11pm 35%). I will say that the iPhone 4 has better battery than the gnex or the 4s for that matter but then you're buying outdated hardware that will get a watered down version of iOS6 when it gets released while with the gnex you get the latest unrestricted OS.
If you're only experience with Android is the Fascinate, you'll love the GNex or S3. If possible, get the GSM Nexus.
You mentioned you didn't like rooting and such on your original Fascinate...honestly if you aren't about taking advantage of the massive development available on the GN, there isn't anything to recommend it over a GS3. Touchwiz is better these days (I'd still toss it for straight google experience, though). But all indications are that samsung is taking care of it's baby now, and trying not to be the bad mother of the GS1 days.
I have a 4s and its back in its box for now... the nexus with jelly bean feels like a brand new phone no joke. I loooove it!

Man, I recently ditched my atrix 4G about a month ago for the gnexus and I'm so glad I did. I had bought my gf the 4s for her birthday, and I'm not gonna lie- after playing around with her phone then going back to my buggy/laggy atrix, I started considering switching to the iPhone for stability. Most android phones at the time were the 'new phone of the month' crap, and although I love the functionality of android, I ultimately wanted a stable phone that would be updated to the newest OS whenever there was a release.
Before throwing in the towel, I gave the galaxy nexus a shot. This thing rocks. No lag, great dev community, first to be upgraded when there is a new os upgrade, great camera and screen size/resolution.. etc etc. This phone will not let you down, trust me man. Coming from a guy who also would turn down the Galaxy s3 for the same reason, I advise you to go android. Go android, and go whatever Google's flagship phone is. If possible, I'd hold out until Google releases their new Nexus device(s?) so you can have the latest and greatest.
I'm here to answer any questions you've got.

I agree the GNex is the best android phone, and it is best for customization, especially when coming from iPhones.
However you also mentioned you want something that just works. Unfortunately nothing beats the iphone in this category. GNex is a high maintenance phone. From day to day task (getting find my phone to work, typing in different languages), to managing an os update. I am still struggling with issues after jellybean upgrade.
Also, Google now sucks compare to siri. It doesn't extract info from contact, ie. does not know who I am or who is my wife, her phone number. Finally I really missed imessage. Most of my friends are on ios, almost no one use Google+.
In my opinion, stay with your iPhone if you want it to just work. But get a GNex if you are bored of ios and want to tinker your phone.

The nexus is a great phone, 4.1 is very very smooth, however I'm going to go against the grain here, because of your comment "It just needs to work". The nexus is on the bleeding edge of android and sometimes problems DO crop up and can take a while to fix and in rare cases be pretty crippling (Nexus S search bug on the i9020a for example). If you can live with little quirks or willing to get your hands dirty and try to fix them yourself, then by all means get this phone, if you want something 100% trouble free, you might be better to stay with the iPhone.
The nexus however does provide you with a bloat free experience, and if you like to tinker, then it's the best choice available. I'm never sure if the verizon variant is properly supported in AOSP, if you have the option, get a GSM version (yes this means going with someone other the version) and get the phone from the play store to make sure you don't have a samsung regional variant (yakju/takju)
Best of luck on your decision.
I spent quite a while playing with my friends iPhones and when I walked into Verizon I was pretty much set on getting one because they do just work. They dont bug up, they dont lag, they just do as you ask. But I also realized how no matter whos phone I was using I felt like I was using just anyones phone. They all kind of felt the same even though people had different wallpapers and what not. I just did not get the feeling everyone had their own unique device and I like having the ability to stand out. When I went into Verizon, they never even brought the I phone out. They put the Droid 4 (which I also asked for) the GNX and the LG Enligten. As soon as they took the Nexus out of the box I was impressed. It was the right size, the screen was fantastic (I thought I wouldnt mind the screen size difference from iPhone to Nexus but I do and I cant stand to use the small iPhone screen now) I got double my data, double the memory, faster cpu. Everyone in the store said they wished it was out when they were considering their next phone so I jumped on it. At first I was a bit annoyed with ICS and its laggyness. Do yourself a huge favor, get JB and load a good kernel and from an interface perspective it dusts the iPhone for me. The only thing I wish worked better is the reception. And that is a huge core feature. I just cant tell if its a radio software issue or a antenna issue. It seems some people have fixed their phones with flashing new radios but it may just be a patch on an underlying problem. Even with that I still have no regets passing on the iPhone.
Last Saturday I Signed on and got a Droid Inc 2 but hated HTC and their signal/reception
and went on exchanged at best buy for my Droid Razr.
Overall, my razr is a good phone aside from the fact the camera is not good at all(reminds me of my Droid X) and
it gets laggy every once and awhile.
I see that Target Mobile has the Nexus for 29.99 plus a free samsung dock with it.
What I'm looking for
1. Decent/Good Camera----I've heard mixed results on the Nexus Camera
2. Fast- Little to no lag
I'm aware of the "signal problem" with the Nexus but i really want the phone for it's big screen.
My question for you all is would you still buy this phone today with all that you guys know about it? Taking out the fact it is a pure google phone
which is why most if not all of you brought it, what are the features besides the fact that it is pure android that made you buy it and would you buy it
now or do you recommend I keep the Droid razr or aim for the Rezound(Awesome camera but i dislike htc sense) or new Droid Razr M?
I received mine as a replacement for multiple malfunctioning Droid Charges, but I would definitely get the Nexus again. To answer your questions:
1. I find the camera on the Nexus is very good. With JellyBean, the shutter is the fastest I've ever seen on an Android device, so it's easy to snap multiple shots. I also cannot complain about the quality of the pictures taken.
2. I have some periods of lag, but not worse than any other device that I've owned. It's definitely the smoothest phone I've owned, especially with JellyBean.
The "signal problem" hits me fairly hard, since I work in an outlying Verizon area and in a building that might as well be a faraday cage. I can't really complain once I'm outside of my workplace, though.
Finally, the screen. Some people have had problems with purple, distorted, or banded screens. Luckily, my device has had a perfect screen so far. If you're really wanting it for the screen, you'll want to check out the specific device you'd be purchasing before accepting it (if possible). Also, if you're looking for a good screen, you might want to check out the Galaxy S III. It's larger than the Nexus (4.8" vs 4.65") and, from what I've heard, it's a good quality screen.
I can't comment on the Razr or Rezound. I know that some people who were very unhappy with the signal reception on Samsung models found those models more to their liking, though.
Nexus kills the RAZR period. Camera is not amazing on the nexus (had an s2 before and it took way better shots) but the cam app and performance as mentioned above is amazing (shutter lag, speed etc). As for performance and lag the gnex with JB is amazingly smooth especially compared to the RAZR. You will be happier with a gnex. Also if you're on xda that means you prob like flashing roms and there is arguably no better phone for custom roms. I say gnex

Ha i have no idea how to do that. I believe i read somewhere you have to unlock the device? Not sure how i do that.
But i will be seeing if i can exchange one last time since it doesn't make sense to buy from target when i can exchange.
I get at best 1 bar here or the empty 3g signal icon. I almost always have signal but it's only a bar with decent call quality so it is usable.

Tools have made it incredibly easy to root and jellybean for VZW gnex is worth think, I'm running it now. If youre considering unlocking your bootloader and rooting your phone please ask any questions you may have as it's easy to get confused your first time and that can cause the death of your phone if you dunno what you're doing. Though even if you don't root the gnex is still amazing, and an OTA update for JB should hopefully arrive soon

Nothing beats having a Nexus IMO. Now would i buy this phone all over again OFCOURSE no need to think it twice its a great phone because of the community and all the roms and mods out there to improve the phone's experience. Now when it comes to the camera its not great but it gets the job done if your not looking to take any professional shots. The radios have improved with the latest ones out there and i simply would recommend it since it would continue receiving support from google for at least another couple of years if your planning on staying stock.

I would disagree with this. For some, it helped LTE drops, but for reception, most have no difference with the latest radios compared to FC04/05. Also, from what I've read, VZW rejected Samsung's update based on poor radio performance.
OP, if you're struggling with reception on the Razr, I think it'd be fair to say that you'd be struggling as much or worse with the Nexus.
My wife got her first smartphone about 8 months ago. got the samsung stratosphere. had it for about 2 months until I got the samsung galaxy S3 at which point she wanted my rooted thunderbolt. The thunderbolt has gotten very laggy no matter which Rom I throw on there. CleanRom worked well for about a week and then it started its usual lack of performance. When I first got it, it was snappy, quick and smooth. Now it just isn't and i dont know why since I'm doing a clean factory wipe with CWM. She is getting tired of me tinkering around with it trying to get it to perform well. Wants a new phone and is thinking the incredible 4g, razr M or the samsung galaxy nexus.
wanted to see what people thought, who have the galaxy nexus. Would you recommend it again or would you rather go with a newer phone like the Dinc 4g or razr m?
No regrets here. You can never go wrong with Pure Google, and with third-party ROMs you always have the latest Android version before, well especially before the Dinc 4G or RAZR M.
I wouldn't say there's much difference between 5MP and 8MP, and the only reason I'd go for either of the other two phones is for SD storage, which even now I'm losing interest in, but it's nice to have that stuff somewhere separate from the phone.
Plus, I am pretty sure the GalNex is the cheapest, on or off contract..
As far as famous issues go, no inductive charging (come on even the Thunderbolt had that), Micro USB port tends to fail, but that's kind of an all-phone sort of thing IMO, and of course AMOLED screen burn-in. All are nominal issues considering they happen typically after at least a year of use.
My 2.
Good luck!

I had the g2 then the g2x and now the gnex. I personally think this is still one of the best phone around, hands down. Direct Google updates, unlocked (can use any gsm carrier prepaid or postpaid), great screen and decent pics. The developer support will be continuous until the hardware can no longer support the os. Money wise, its the cheapest high end smart phone you can get, period (and I don't think this phone is "cheap", its hardware is great and handles everything I throw at it).

I noticed your on Verizon, slow updates through Verizon, but the development community will provide those... Plus you can get a 32gb as compared to the gsm 16gb.

For something that "just works" with minimal effort the iDerp is the way to go.
Android can be laggy when "external" SD Card memory size is full, e.g. if 16GB SD Card have only 1GB free memory. makes Android slower..
by doing full Wipe, data factory reset then it should be much faster..
Galaxy Nexus's battery life is not so good so it's better to use older Android phone if wants phone with good battery life...
I'll put it like this. i have had several phones of all brands and companies i just had the nexus 4 sold it. i have the s3.it sits on my desk. The note 2 is hooked to a TV in the guest room for streaming. all the phones I have and have i come back to the nexus. i chose to make it my main driver. i don't even swap sims anymore. Galaxy nexus just works. and we have great devs that make things work even better. and help out. do that on a iPhone. also as
Sd storage is a thing of the past. cloud storage is here.. and it's fast. Anyway nexus gsm with a year straight talk plan works fine for me.. well great actually.. even with Verizon i wouldn't get any other phone. especially since i seen in my area Verizon offering then free or 50 bucks on contract.. roll with it.

Otherwise let her shop for an android phone and pick out what she wants, all the top phones are pretty solid. Obviously the s3 is the hot phone now, but for some it's a little large.
She has the Thunderbolt? Good god, man. You're just asking for all kinds of trouble there. You don't give a woman a Thunderbolt. Even men can't stand that phone.
For a woman, you need a trouble-free phone like the:
-Galaxy S3
-Galaxy Note 2 (women actually like it a lot and have more reason to use it because they carry a purse or bag)
-iPhone 5
-Nokia Lumia 920
Seriously. These are the only phones women actually enjoy using. The Nexus is great but its more for geeks than ladies.
Get her a white Gnex, turn it into a takju with a clean flash of the 4.2.1 factory image and you're good to go. Hassle free stock software from then on...

She's going to complain about the battery life. He should NOT get the Nexus for a woman. I'm being serious here. The other phones I suggested are much better for a woman. You guys keep assuming that women will like what you like. They don't. They're very different. You don't give a woman a phone with any big flaws, and the big flaw with the Galaxy Nexus is battery life.
I say get her the Galaxy Note2 my wife saw it the other day and was like damn I should've waited and got that instead of the iPhone(she got her iPhone a week before note 2 came out)

Yep. Women love the Galaxy Note 2 more than men do, seemingly. It's like the size of a paperback book or personal organizer that women carry around in their purse. If they can do everything on a device like that, they're happy, and the battery life on it is amazing.
Hell, I'm probably going to get the Galaxy Note 3 next year if Google screws up again and makes yet another glass-backed Nexus phone.
thank you all for the replies. I was not expecting for there to be so many just night.
The other thing I needed to mention is that she does NOT want to spend much. I would love her to have the S3 like I do but she wont spend the money to get it. This is why she was looking into the incredible 4g or moto razr m. both are $49 currently.
If money eliminates the note2, go with the nexus. I got it cheap and got the Samsung extended battery. I have no problem getting almost a full day with moderate usage. If I am at work, it goes in airplane mode between breaks. After work I still have almost a full charge. And the phone charges FAST! I have no complaints. With 2 GS2's and a GS3 in the family, my gnex still has the best performance and least issues of all.

On the subject of battery life I'm going to add that my stock battery gsm gnex gets better battery life than any android phone I've previously owned or handled.
But based on the reports of battery life with lte I would possibly agree with cadude the Verizon nexus might not be the best choice. I don't know though, maybe it's no different than any other lte equipped phone. I've always used gsm.

I bought GNex for my girlfriend and she loves it. Stock Android is rock stable and super fast. She won't change it for any other phone. Until I get her Nexus 4, maybe?
If you hated the battery life on the Bolt you will hate the VZW Galaxy Nexus more. I went from one to the other last year and u was surprised, I though the bolt had the worst battery of them all.
Otherwise here's my .02 -
If you want to extend/new contract - you cannot go wrong with an S3. Great battery life, expandable memory and Touchwiz 's no tinkering to get great features aspect are great selling points to people who don't want to tinker with the phone.. My wife is a perfect example Lol. Not to mention the camera is 2nd to none on android devices now.
If you don't want a contract I would get a used VZW Nexus. Deal with the battery for a great price.
If your wife wants a smaller device - get the RAZR M. Its quite an amazing little device. All the power/specs of the S3 in a handy little package. I've heard it has great battery too

Ok so you're on Verizon. Trust me, a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon is TERRIBLE. You simply do NOT want that phone. She will definitely complain about the battery because the LTE drains even more on a Verizon Gnex than a GSM Gnex.
Good news for you though! You can upgrade on your Verizon account with Amazon Wireless, and they'll give you another Samsung Galaxy S3 for $99.99 which isn't much more than 50 bucks and the same price as the Verizon Gnex from the Verizon store.

Most of you will probably look at this thread and think it's a waste of space on XDA, but hopefully I'll get through to someone considering upgrading to the RAZR M.
First, I did a lot of research into which phone I should upgrade to... Frankly I was disappointed with Verizon's selection, but I went to a retail store and tried out all the phones, and I thought the RAZR M was the best option for me. I missed the SD card slot, thought the 2000 mAh battery would be great, and liked the camera upgrade from the Nexus' 5MP shooter.
I even went over to XDA's Droid RAZR M page and asked everyone what they thought of their phone, and if there was any reason I shouldn't get it... The only thing anyone could come up with was that the bootloader could only be unlocked on certain firmware, which I made sure to get.
Despite being Super AMOLED Advanced, the display has this look to it that just makes it look bad. The battery is hardly better than the Galaxy Nexus's, especially if that Nexus is packing the 2150mAh extended battery (obviously). It turns out MTP isn't a "lack of SD card slot" thing, it's an Android 4.1 and up thing. Some of you could probably have told me that, but I think many people are unaware of this, and go for phones with SD cards in the hopes of being able to sync with their Mac and Linux computers again.
I was surprised to find that Google Wallet won't happen, probably ever. No one has figured out how to do it.... So if you rely on Wallet at all, this alone should be a deal-breaker for you.
Despite Kevlar and Gorilla Glass, as well as a sturdy-feeling frame, the buttons on the RAZR M feel cheap and noisy, and the vibrate resembles that of an iPhone 3G or the Palm Pixi Plus... "cheap" I suppose would describe that rather well..
The only positive thing I have to say about the RAZR M is that the download speeds are considerably better, even though it almost always has the same number of bars as the Galaxy Nexus. In areas where the GalNex got 30 mbps or so down, the RAZR M got 50-65 mbps down. Although virtually 100% of the time, the RAZR M lost to the Galaxy Nexus with upload speeds by around 4 mbps.
I'll sum all that up by saying I'm proudly sticking with the Galaxy Nexus for the foreseeable future and that my goal here is not to ***** about the RAZR M or my poor decision, but to literally warn anyone here against getting it. I mean, we all have the Galaxy Nexus for certain reasons, mostly to have the latest version of Android almost always, so I figure some of you may be eyeing the RAZR M as well.

well this is awkwardly coincidental...
you might have noticed i have posted a few times to the GNEX forum on random threads and even started my own on flashing to PagePlus. i love my Galaxy Nexus (Toro) and i have had so much fun with it over the past few months ive had it.
just 2 days ago i got a Razr M from my boss and am now using it as my DD and unlocked it to Simple Mobile, unlocked the bootloader and just loaded Eclipse V5.0 not 30 minutes ago. i have to say your observations are duely noted
but i have to say i tend to disagree with you
i friggin LOVE this thing! sure its only got 8gb internal storage, of which you can only use 5gb, but again theres that SD Card slot and i happen to have a 32gb Class 4.
the buttons dont feel cheap at all. as a matter of fact their quite sturdy and i havent had it turn on in my pocket and take random pictures. their a little cramped being on the one side, but their less sensitive as opposed to my Nexus which is good for me as i carry alot of crap in my pocket for no reason at all.
the screen is only slightly smaller than my Nexus and while its not 720x1280 its slightly more vibrant in color and looks less saturated. its more responsive too even after my Nexus has been updated to 4.3. plus that Gorilla Glass is gonna go through some real tests with all the stuff i carry on me and my tendency to drop things.
non removable battery is fine by me too. ive had not alot of battery drain and ive been using it pretty extensively. i played with it heavily (gaming, streaming videos, tethering to my pc, etc) off the charger after a full charge and came out after about 4.5 hours and still had 40%.
unlocking the bootloader isnt hard at all with Matt's Utility if you do it before the latest update, but im sure a fix will be up very soon for those who have taken it.
performance wise it beats my Nexus 1,000,000 to 1. little to no stutter/lag even with 4xAA enabled while gaming whereas my Nexus just isn't keeping up. and again, its responsive as heck.
the vibrate being low? it fell off my table getting a TEXT MESSAGE!
also its LOUD in comparison to my GNEX. like obsuredly loud!
all in all its an awesome device and pitted against my GNEX its a really close call.
i'd have to give my vote to the Razr M :good:
Well thanks for the reply lol, that's very interesting.
I love the vibrate on the Nexus, it's just right IMO, and very smooth.
I unlocked the bootloader and threw on CM10.1, but something tells me development will be slow for anything beyond 4.2.2.
I will admit the battery (again, non-extended) is an upgrade, as is the... Well the camera is interesting, either the Nexus or RAZR M have a better camera, depends on the subject and the lighting.
I still insist the screen looks pixelated (pentile?), I mean it does have a lover ppi and resolution than the GalNex...
You have me on speed though haha. The RAZR M I found to be more responsive (on stock), though to be fair it lagged immensely on CM10.1, whereas 4.3 is doing the Nexus a favor.
It is close though, it was a tough decision which one to pass into the family "up for grabs" pool, but I'm happy with the GalNex.

I got my wife a RAZR M and have been pretty impressed by it. She uses her phone a ton and blows away my battery life. I will say I'm not thrilled with the camera still but its OK. The display is fine for most things. I do think the colors are better than the gnex but not as good clarity of course.

im on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to the "come and get it" as my girlfriend has been *****ing about her Virgin Mobile Kyocera Rise *shutters* since she got it back before Christmas. since i brought home my Razr M she's been eyeing up my Nexus like a fiend haha. she deserves the upgrade so ill be flashing the Nexus over to VM for her shortly.
as for the display with its qHD 960x540 resolution the pixelation on the launcher is noticeable when compared to the GNEX but again the colors seem to pop a bit more and i only notice the pixels on the launcher. in games (which i do alot of) and in other apps its much less apparent.
i love the camera on both phones and i think the front facing camera on the Nexus is a little bit better but the rear camera on the Razr M is pretty beast.
ive thrown on the aaarrrgghh kernel to Eclipse rom as well as the PurePerformances enhancement and it seems to have to fixed most of the stutter in the launcher. i hope they go a bit further with rom development as i would love to see what 4.3 has to offer the device. whether or not its gonna happen is up to the devs.
all in all i love both phones and i think my girlfriend will enjoy having the Nexus as much as i did

I could say the same thing about Samsung after my SGS (GPS Update). I think you just have to take devices for what they are when they drop, not for what you think they might get. Easier said than done, I realize. It's what makes me hesitate to go for the new Droid Maxx. I REALLY want to give it a whirl, but having something non-nexus kind of turns me off in the unlocking the bootloader department. That said, I'm kind of stuck with Verizon, and I can't run the GNex forever.
I'm stuck with Verizon also unless I want to give up unlimited data but that also means I have to pay full price for my next phone. Although I'm not overly impressed with my gnex toro it does eventually get updates and it unlockable. Motorola said they would unlock our bootloader more than once and never did, they also promised ICS then backed out on both. I still have my x2 but it's so slow with GB and bloat. Things may change but I would definitely need nexus phone.

From your review, I don't think it's that bad.
I'm considering Razr M, actually. Not for an upgrade, but before I buy GNex.
Unfortunately, Razr M can't be found anywhere in my country. So I bought GNex.
I didn't regret it. But I still think Motorola Razr line's build quality & battery life must be better than GNex...
So through work, I have acquired the moto x dev edition for verizon. My gnex is going to a good home (my father). So here are my thoughts which I am going to post on my blog. The main question, is it worth upgrading the gnex? Honestly, if you are buying a phone outright I do NOT think its worth it unless you care about a few new things. The gnex actually performs nearly as good as my new moto x (assuming you have rooted and customized it to). Here is my review:
I currently have 2 verizon phones - the galaxy nexus and the moto x from verizon. Here is what I have done to both phones before I give my review:
Gnex - I have rooted it and installed the latest 4.4 nightly from cyanogenmod. I have installed pacrom, aokp, etc as well and AOKP is definitely my favorite ROM but I am giving this phone to my father and think CM will be easiest for him as it updates itself through an OTA update.
Moto x - I have rooted it, installed Xposed (for gravitybox), deleted bloatware, and got it tether ready.
Reviews:
Speed/lag - I never noticed lag with my motox. Now that I have the moto x I am noticing where there was lag on my gnex. However, I dont think most people would notice it. It is not significant and doesnt make the phone perform any better/worse.
size - both are around the same size. the moto x is a bit smaller and screen appears to be the same size.
camera - i didnt notice a difference here and i dont really use the cams much either.
battery - much better on my motox. I get about 24hrs more. I think i got around 12-15 hours on average on my gnex and am getting 36+ on my moto x. i did have the 2200 size on my gnex too. this could be a breaking point for many people but i was able to go through the day and just charge each night with my gnex.
tethering - tethering was simple on my gnex. i just pushed the button and it works. it worked with a million tethering apps too. the moto x was not easy. it does not work with any of those apps. i had to go in and work in terminal to get tethering to work. i have a feeling i will need to do this with each OS upgrade too. I am not looking forward to it. It was not something a beginner will be able to easily do.
bloatware - none on the gnex. tons on my moto x. i had to delete it all but again this was easy once rooted.
active display - this is awesome. it is on both phones though. on the moto x its just automatically there. on my gnex i need to download dynamicnotifications app. i think each version (the app vs the native moto x app) each have some advantages over one another. this will be a preference thing but both basically function in the exact same way.
moto connect - Now this is new to me and I am really loving it. I can text - send and receive texts from my browser. This is really awesome as I work from home and dont alway have my phone on me. I can also take calls this way too. Very awesome. It could be worth upgrading for just this feature alone.
Dev support - tons of dev support for the gnex. it cant really be beat except for N5. Moto x seems good too just dont think it will ever be as good as a nexus device.
Company support - none for the gnex. phone is past its 18 months. seems like motorola is doing a great job with the moto x and I have a feeling that they will support longer than the standard 18 months given how they are still pushing this phone.
Overall that is my review. I dont think I really needed to upgrade my gnex. It was performing nearly as well as this new phone. I think it has another 1-2 years of life easily. If you do have the money though, it is worth the upgrade but its definitely not necessary.
Here is my blog post: http://raypastore.com/wordpress/2013/12/galaxy-nexus-vs-moto-x/
I'm with you, I love my Galaxy Nexus. My brother has a Droid Ultra he picked up after destroying his phone, and I gotta say my Nexus is better. People on this forum complain about being stuck with a Galaxy Nexus, I don't get it, this is the best phone I've ever played with.

yea i think overall that if you are on verizon and do not want to lose unlimited that its just not worth upgrading. the gnex is such a good phone. i am moving on to my moto x but it definitely is not a significant upgrade thats for sure.

I think Moto G isn't any better in performance. Plus, it doesn't have much development as of now (not even a CM build). But to be honest I'm also tempted... though I have something else on my mind.

It might not have any Dev support but its already getting 4.4.2 kitkat from Motorola and runs pretty much stock Android ..far as performance I've yet to see a VS video but I'm sure the Moto is faster.

I had the S3 and I had a worse experience on it than I currently do on my recently acquired VZW Nexus. There is no lag or bloatware. The only down side is battery life. I will be buying another battery. Either stock or extended. I am near a charger all day so it's not a big deal for me. I'm not tempted to flash a different ROM either because it is already an aosp phone.

I seriously thought about it. I still am. I'm so used to the 4.7" display such that I fear going back to 4.5" would be too much.
Galaxy nexus was my first smartphone and it made these almost 2 years since I own it very special. A real adventure. Have bricked it, have drppoed it but it never let me down in the end.
Had a great experience with my GNex but the battery life was a real deal breaker for me. Went with the G2 and am loving the larger screen not to mention outstanding battery. Thought I would hate the UI but so far I'm ok with it and I know I can ROM it when I get bored with it. Haven't parted with the GNex yet but I'm not really seeing a need to keep it now.

Yup I feel the same way. I've been on cm 10.1.3 since september and I've experienced very minimal lag. All the 4.3/4.4 roms are just too unstable. Just the battery life sucks. Even on the 2100maH battery, the best screen on time I could get is 3 hours.I just keep the stock battery in handy for when I run out of battery.

Getting a moto g would be like buying a phone with 3 year old specs with no development, complete waste of time.At least the gnex has plenty of development but is still obsolete an crappy in the current smartphone world.Even the iPhone 4s which is 2 an a half years old beats the gnex hands down.
I love my GNex.. And with CM11 it rocks.. I will probably wait to it dies..

Hmm. If you could lag a CM11-wielding GNex, then a MotoG wouldn't surprise you either. It's a Snapdragon 400 after all. Me, I feel my GNex is always as smooth even when compared to my 2 more powerful devices.
