I have the Sprint version of the S3, and I'm rooted. I have the stock 4.0.4 rom and the Jelly Bean rom from XDA. I am currently running Jelly Bean, but the problem exists on both ROMs. I have wiped Dalvik, wiped cache, and tried reinstalling Jelly Bean, and nothing has helped. I don't have a 2G/3G/4G toggle. All I have - in both ROMs - is an LTE/CDMA or just CDMA toggle.
The problem started when I tried to flash CMW Touch by downloading it directly to my SD card and going through CMW to get the install completed. Couldn't get it to work didn't think too much about it. Got in the car and realized I was getting no 3G or voice whatsoever. I was getting sporadic 4G but nothing else. I presumed that Sprint was tinkering again. Finally, I started to see I was getting a few bars for voice, but each time I tried to make a call, I would get "Mobile network not available." So I called Sprint, and the tech support tells me to dial ##-something, then after a while the whole thing comes back. I presume that Sprint got finished tinkering, and tech support really didn't do much - just coincidence.
Fast forward to yesterday. I have some time, and I realize that I never got CMW Touch installed. So I try to flash it again, and then I realize my voice and 3G are gone again, but 4G and Wi-Fi are working like a charm. I also realize that Sprint isn't the one guilty of tinkering.
I got as far as having a few voice bars, but more "mobile network not available." I suspect that the zip file I flashed must have been for another carrier even though I was certain it was for Sprint, and I also suspect my phone is getting bars from another carrier. That's just a suspicion.
As of this morning, I have since updated the radio/modem to the newest version, and that didn't work. I have also flashed the most recent firmware update (modem, baseband, etc.), and that didn't work either. I'm an eyelash from having to download that app that rolls back the counter and take it back into the Sprint store for repair/replacement. Hoping to not have to do that.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
If you're from the Pacific Northwest, Sprint has been having some connection issues here for the last few days. There's an article over on Engadget that talks about it and how it's delayed a few Alaska Airline flights. Mine has been going in and out all morning, but it seems to be calming down now.

Need some help here. I never usually need help, been modding everything possible on Android for years now. But can't figure this one out, getting worried.
Had my LTE Nexus since launch day. No issues like this before.
Been on all Team Kang AOKP toro ROM updates since release, always on the latest. Stock kernel. Was on build 20 since it came out.
Yesterday at work, had a few bugs from probably not data wiping from build 19, so I wiped it all and re-flashed 20 again. Restored Titanium and started re-setting things up, I believe these are the only things I did. I was at work where I would normally have minimal, but some, service.
Ever since around there, I have not once had a bit of 3G or 4G service. I have not seen the 3G logo for even an instant, only few, gray bars. Wifi works fine of course. It's possible I even lost service before wiping and re-flashing, but I can't recall or didn't notice.
I tried all the usual stuff, wiping everything again, re-flashed AOKP 20, re-flashed other/older ROMs, re-flashed latest radio, restored old Nandroid backups, pulled battery and sim card and put back/rebooted...NOTHING IS WORKING. Also, I have driven through several towns since yesterday so I know it's not a local outage. Also, other people with Verizon phones here have service fine.
I have basically torn the phone down software-wise and nothing has fixed the issue. I still have no service. Each time I re-flash a ROM, it always makes me go on Wifi when it wants me to sign into Google...it never picks up mobile service then or after.
The About>Status screen says:
Network: Verizon Wireless
Signal Strength: shows an actual number reading that changes
Service State: In Service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Please suggest things I can try, but I guaranteed I have already tried them. Can't understand or imagine what is causing this, because I did nothing different than I normally do.
Also, I posted this on Rootz as well, and many replies so far. Still no luck though.
If you have an idea I can try, maybe post there instead at this point for me?
Thanks guys in advance.

It seems a radio problem. Try to flash the stock ROM from Google.

Well I did go back to many random earlier, more stock custom ROMs in hopes of a fix, but nothing so far. I am currently back on the stock 4.0.2 ROM that is rooted and deodexed by Bigxie, but I guess I can go all the way back to stock 4.0.1 or 0.2. Will try now.
Went to Verizon and it looks like the sim card swap did it. The girl there was nice and did it without hesitation for me.
She showed me in her computer how under my family account, it wasn't even fully showing my device or something like that. Not sure if it wasn't there at all or if it just didn't show that I had a 4g phone activated on the account...but I'm sure it was related.
Sucks to have to get a swap and still don't know what caused it or if its related to flashing roms, but at least it works! No issues since...
It is possible, but unlikely and no reasonable explanation, that your sim somehow got affected doing all the flashing and stuff.

So everything was fine on my Evo (running one of decks roms with a ICS theme) until the screen went out friday night. Saturday I took it in and it was repaired in about 2 hours (very impressed). In between I activated an old back up phone to get me by. When I picked up my Evo the tech had reactivated it and it was ready to go. But when I got to work I had no data. No internet service at all. Calls and Texts were fine, but nothing else. I made sure mobile data was checked, (couldn't update PRL cause of the AOSP rom), but I did a battery pull, rebooted, then I decided to nandroid back to a previous sense rom. Once I booted up still nothing. after about 2 hours all of a sudden I was getting emails, and voxer messages....I had data back!!! But when I tried 4G nothing happened (stays on obtaining IP). Hoping a newer stock based rom would help I flashed the new swag ON rom. Loving the rom...everything is great, but still no 4g. My last resort is to unroot and go back to sprint. I downloaded the wimaxx checker and it says I have my RSA keys so I know those are there. I'm sorry if this is a bit long winded, but I thought being as detailed as possible would help. Any suggestions would be great. The members here have helped me through lots of trouble shooting in the past.
Should also be noted that I attempted PRL update again with no luck, and I live in San Antonio which is a solid 4g area for me.
Good thinking with Wimax Checker - That's usually the first line of defense.
It sounds like because you cannot update PRL or Data Profile that there may have been an issue in the reactivation by the tech at the Sprint store. With that said, I know I'm in the Philadelphia region with good 4G but occasionally there will be a day or so of PRL/Profile update "outages" where I cannot update. I usually will verify with a family member's phone (also on Sprint). Perhaps try having someone you know in the area with Sprint and an android phone try a profile and/or PRL update to make sure it's not just the system being unresponsive.
Ok I will try that tonight and reply back. I had my g/f's evo running decks rom try her 4g and it worked perfectly so I know its my phone. I'll see if she can update. Either way is there some sort of combo pack I can flash for profile and prl??? I'm not too sure how that would work.
Here is the latest Radios-Wimax-PRI-NV Combo pack Click HERE
Ok I flashed an older Wimaxx since the one I had was up to date(did a check in TE). Once flashed and booted up still no 4g. Is it possible that this could be a hardware issue since everything else works? Like the actual antenna is busted? Just hard for me to think that since it was working fine before my screen went out. I always have 4g service at home and work. And my g/f's is working fine she has the evo and she has sprint.

All right I have a few question I figured I'd ask in one thread they pertain to one another I guess.
1. (blazer rom 4.0) So last night I flashed this rom because i have not given GB a chance everything went well flashed fine......but when I booted the phone everything came up but I had no service. not a empty signal display it had the circle with the slash through it no service. under about phone it said I had no number, no prl, no nothing. after doing a shutdown and restart service would come on periodically and the it would go back to what I had just mentioned.
2. (prl and profile update) so the whole reason I flashed I flashed back was to update my prl and profile. but for some reason I can not do either. for this one i just flashed back stock el29. It would say and show that I had a 3g signal but everytime I the instant I would hit update the signal would vanish and 5 seconds later i would get (error: no connection) thried this with 3g,4g,wifi no luck.
this also happen when I was talking to a sprint rep setting my epic up, it took an hour and half to get my phone updated, no bueno.
do we have prl zips for are phone? and where, if so?
and any help with the blazer rom would be great. From the little bit I messed with it, it was a very smooth and snappy rom.

There are no prl zips that IM AWARE of. I'm pretty sure there are none! Idk try to see if sprint repair can find something wrong with it! Or you can try to flash a different modem. Sorry about your issues

also if I helped you in anyway, Lets have some manners and hit the thanks!
The blazer service issues are logged in the op forum.
Okay so I love this rom. I installed it when it was at 1.6. I checked back to see if they had updated anything and wow it was already at like 2.1. I got to reading and found out that 2.1 uses a new kernel and would not recognize my 64 gig micro sd, so I installed 2.0. Everything works great except for one thing. In some areas, I cannot make calls. It acts like it is dialing, but never starts ringing and eventually hangs up. I am showing in some cases full bars. I am roaming, but I have full service. I have checked my roaming guards and roaming networks. Changed almost every setting that I can with no avail. Sometimes when I try to make a call, I will lose all bars of service. One thing to note, when in this area, I can still use my internet and 3g service, just no calls. Before updating, I could make calls in the area easily. I can drive five minutes down the road and make calls with no problem. I am figuring it is maybe a different tower. Also this area is roaming as well. I can make calls no problem. Just wondering if anyone maybe has an answer for this. I have searched the blazer rom official forum and have came up with nothing. Advanced thanks to anyone that may have an answer and for the help.

*Update*
Okay, so I tried updating my prl with no luck. I updated via the option in the menu. A question that I had is do I need to do this on my Sprint network, or can I do it while I am roaming? Also I completely did a fresh flash of blazer 2.0, Superior, and blazer 1.6 (the last working rom that I had) and now they are all doing the same thing. My wife's phone, a s2, works fine in that area as well as my buddy's. Any other suggestions?

Get an up to date rom. That rom is notorious for not being updated or supported by the developer.

I did, I tried superior. It did the same thing. Now I can only make calls on roaming networks occasionally. I have to keep trying to call and call and eventually one of the calls will go through, sometimes. Other times I can't get a call out at all. My internet works fine. I have tried 2 different roms. 2 versions of Blazer and Superior. I tried updating my prl on while connected to the Sprint network and that did not help. I am at a loss here. I have tried just about everything that I know. Could it be a hardware problem? I would not think so since I can make and receive calls fine while not roaming. Any suggestions?
Where are you located? Kind of sounds like a Sprint issue.

I don't think it is a sprint issue. My wife's stock s2 works fine. I am located in Danville, WV. I get no sprint service where I live and am always roaming, so this is a pretty big deal. Also, this morning I installed MOAR with no luck either. Could it be a hardware issue? I don't think it is because if i'm not roaming it works fine...must be something small.
Hello all!
I am having constant data issues all day where I go to use an app that needs it, it says that no data connection can be found or something. I turn the radio off, turn it back on and then it works. It's a good work-around but it does get very annoying. I've tried multiple 4.4.2 roms but no avail. I tried a different kernel but I couldn't even use the phone. Any ideas?
Same for me; I'm rooted now but it happened before root and after the JB ota updates. Annoying but otherwise I love this phone
I think this has been a known issue since ICS (I could be wrong though).
If anyone knows a fix that would be cool (I have GSM google play gnex)
My issues started late last night, lost data connection and it didn't come back. On my way home, it connected then lost again at home. Went to Verizon today and they couldn't figure it out, said possibly the radio is taking a crap.
On my way to work, it connects then gone. I tried flashing the radio, pulled battery, booted without sim, formatted cache and delvic. I have tried everything and think it's the end of the line for it
I've been rooted since the day I got it and had the issue once a while back but it straightened out and has been great since.
Certain CyanogenMod ROMs have trouble with the Network Modes sticking. Which carrier are you using? For my carrier, I had to have the correct APNs set to get 4G and MMS working. It might be that this is the problem in most cases, especially when the phone switches between 4G and 3G in spotty areas.
