Multi Tasking on 2GB - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I'm going to get the note soon and I'm wondering how it is when multi Tasking. How many apps can you open and retain on the 2gb ram? Does the browser redraw all the pages when switching between say for example 5 apps or so? How about the launcher, does it redraw?

Yeah I know about this feature. Thanks! Though it didn't answer my question.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

it wouldn't surprise me if you could keep 10 different browsers open without any of them having to reload pages.
right now i have 1GB free (not using any task killers) with opera mobile open.

Hope this helps I did a test just now... I had 5 apps running on the background...1.browser(chrome web page on android authority) 2. messaging 3. Facebook 4. YouTube 5.xda ... and after switching through apps vice versa the web page was still intact hell even the home screen didn't redraw like the s3 ... haven't tried more than 6.. but ill leave that epic moment too you when you yell CHRIST IN HEAVEN THIS PHONE IS AMAZING !!!!!!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys! Can't wait to get this phone when it gets released here two weeks from now.
How about testing the browser capacity? Can someone load 8 Web pages and switch between 5 apps and then back to the browser? Will the browser redraw?

running 7 apps 8 web tabs on chrome all good no reloading all pages are exactly where i left it Pare :highfive:

[REQUEST] Froyo browser fix request

As we all know the Froyo browser is bad.
Is there something that can be done? AOSP browser maybe? Galaxy Tab browser? Eclair browser?
I know this might not belong here, but I am sure the devs here could come with something up!
WE NEED A FASTER BROWSER!!!
Amen to that.

Yes, it is smoother but still not iphone smooth. But anyway, we deserve a fast browser WITH flash!

Never going to get a smooth browser with flash, if you don't have a dedicated chip for Adobe flash acceleration...

It is not Flash that is slowing it down.
Disable it and you will see.
On the Droid X the browser is by far smoother WITH flash enabled.
There is something else going on here.

Yes the problem is that with flash enable, the available memory is gone making the phone so slow to scroll etc.Its a memory management problem
Agree, we have far too little useable ram, and the browser is using way too much.
Opening pocketnow.com uses 120mb ram on jpa, it causes a fc and memory dump.
We barely have 120mb useable to begin with!
Very very annoying... Time to start posting on samsung facebook page
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Flash is not the problem. I don't think any sane person runs Flash "always on" on the galaxy s unless they enjoy feeling frusterated.
With flash off, scrolling is pretty bad, pinch to zoom is pretty bad. It varies from pretty good to terrible.
I don't like my phone being whooped by a 9 month old Nexus One in terms of browsing performance, when mine has better specs!!!
Maybe Opera Mobile, which is coming out this month, is the solution. Opera browsers are always very very fast.
Also, has anyone hands-on experience with the Galaxy Tab? How is the browser performance there?
I hope that Opera will be good. Thing is, the Froyo browser should be absolutely amazing on this phone but Samsung screwed it over. Hopefully Cyanogen can take care of it.

I just opened pocketnow.com and it's perfectly smooth..
I have no complains with my froyo browser except it has problem downloading from megaupload.
Have you tried auto killer?
O loved Opera Mobile on WM, let is hope that on Android it will be equally good. I can't wait for it.
Why have Dolphin HD and xscope the same problem with the ram? I check it both have 100 MB two. (pocketnow)

Stock browser exit , ram use

How do i exit the stock browser?
I can't find the exit button
I always have to go to task manager and to exit it and its always using alot or ram
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
You just press the home or back button. If not using it or the browser isnt busy doing something, the CPU usage of the browser will go to 0.00%. If the OS needs more ram, it will close the application on it's own, you dont need to. This is Android, not Windows. There other browsers you can download in the market that have an exit button, but with the stock browser, you just press the home or back button.

Yeah, I don't know how I missed Opera for so long but it is either 1 or 1a for me right now. I like the features of Dolphin Mini as well. That and the fact that it downloads to a folder that's always easy to find in my recovery which is almost full already

Yeah, dolphin used to be my primary browser until I tested out Opera. Just browsing websites seem faster. Rather than reloading a page after pressing the back button, it immediately reloads the previous screen as if it was saved or something.

Chrome has become my daily browser since I started using Dolphin with my Nexus One.
With the last update for Chrome and FF09, it's the smoothest browser I've used on Android. However, there are still instances where scrolling is jerky and sometimes scrolling stops working for half a minute. It seems like it only happens when I try to scroll while a page hasn't finished loading, but all of the browsers I've tried seem to have issues with scrolling an incomplete page. Closing and reopening the tab will fix the jerky scrolling.
Chrome also freezes on me forcing me to force stop it through settings -> applications. I cannot reliably reproduce this problem and it is annoying, but the benefits of having access to the open tabs on my computer on my phone outweigh this problem.
I do wish Google would iterate the Chrome beta app as fast as they iterate the desktop version of Chrome beta because I'm assuming they mean for this browser to become to default one on Android and jerky scrolling and freezes is pretty bad.
I absolutely do not know which Chrome people are using that they find "buttery smooth" and "fast". It is a terrible laggy and crappy browser on my end. The last update killed it for me where it only launches to a white screen and just freezes. If and when it does decide to work properly, it's stutters and jib-jabs when scrolling, no flash, just all around terrible. No wonder it's surname is still BETA.
Dolphin browser (mini or HD) puts it to shame, really.
You can also try firefox... It's very smooth, and untill now, I didnt find any problem
I like it but I never use it. No flash is... well, no flash. No plugin support like the rest of em either. you'd think with google being the og devs for android. Could make it all work out.

Hoe to free up memory ram and optimize device performance

Guys, is there anyway i can do to make my galaxy nexus faster or hoe to clean up more RAM By using default or old way from the device itself?
Cause i feel im not install lots of app and not running lot of them but its a lil bit annoying cause my phone run a lil bit heavy than usual even I've restart the phone already.
Please need your advance suggestion n guide. So far what ive done is close the app one by one and i notice there is no galaxy nexus. Firmware app that can kill all apps simultaneously.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Don't interfere in androids multitasking. Closing apps that were intended to run in the background is only going to slow your system down overall.
Your best bet is to either make the switch to a more streamlined custom ROM or consider starting fresh.

That's not the way Android works- it seems that you have your phone confused with a Windows PC. Killing processes to free up ram is counterintuitive and serves to slow the device down. Free ram is wasted ram in this case.

ok if you insist, go to developer options, scroll to "background process", change it to 1 or 2 or 3 or 4
you can also enable "force gpu rendring"

Op, at this precise moment I have 5 home screens full of widgets, and "only" have 172MB of free RAM.
It doesn't lag, it's still snappy. And I don't kill apps. Android kernel does that for me. This isn't Froyo or Gingerbread anymore.
Fine-tune your governor settings.

You might consider switching back to 4.1.2. As far as i have heard all Galaxy Nexus models suffer from poor memory management in de 4.2.x Android versions, often leaving with less than 50mb of free RAM. I personally have this problem and I'm about to switch back. I'm just researching which ROM to get and not lose too many functions.

How to downgrade
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
You should just factory reset and let the phone manage ram how its meant to. Having more free ram may cause a placebo effect but were not talking about windows here...used ram properly is more effecient than unused wasted RAM.
If you want to downgrade search for factory images.

[Q] Google Chrome slow and not responding...?

Most of the time it take a long to to load a page, its like it not responding, it takes 12-15 sec for the keyboard to come up sometime it don't even appear ..?
I had to stop using it and go back to using the browser app..;( its a shame..
I know its not the rom cause it does it in all the ones I have tried.
Is it to do with the memory the W has or something..

Remove clear data of the program maybe would be smoother
or run a turbo script or download a root cleaner to have more ram
cuz more ram is more smooth ..
even I have tried the google browser and it is slow, the stock CM browser is the most stable and fast for me but you can also try maxton browser :good:which is very fast in the scroll,pinch-to-zoom and in loading pages.
