[Q] Low volume on Jelly Bean (LIB)? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I tried some latest JB ROMs (LIB) and I found out the volume output on the earpiece is low. Compared to all recent ICS ROMs I tried, the volume is really low. Is this a JB issue or what? Is there a way to make the volume louder? Any help would be really appreciated.

Found out the answer to this by chance the other day - apparently it's a new EU Heath and safety rule that determines max volume - all new phone have to have a lower max volume! Friends IP5 is the same.
To me it's Nanny state, but its true - I'm sure a community fix will come out soon - your phone is not broken
It amazes me that they enforce a rule like this but wont ban much more dangerous things
Surprised the haven't speed limited cars yet or totally banned cigarettes and alcohol lol

That is ****ty I must say. I always listen to music (and smoking) when riding my Vespa, no accident yet lol. Is there any volume mod/hack from the community yet to solve this issue? Anyway, thanks for the info mate

I'm sorry I'm an utter android noob (don't even have the phone yet!) just found the info by chance so I can't answer if there is a fix yet - based on what I've been reading, the android community will fix this in a few moments ;0)

why no volume hack yet?

other than the slight incall audio boost with some of the kernels why has no dev attempted to do a full audio mod to this phone? even the louder volume hack app hasn't been updated in a year.
im just shocked this phone has been out all of this time and we have come up with nothing. ive seen countless threads on this with no resolution.
thoughts?
my assumption is that it's not really in demand. I'm not really sure why you would even want this. the Evo is plenty loud as is. Plus I have played with the pre-amp on it and when you increase the volume to much more than what it is now it doesn't sound to good.

you may think it needs a boost but im guessing others doing or a hack would have been made
The evo is the first phone iv had where volume is not an issue, in call or notification wise. This is also the first thread iv noticed concerning this issue. Imo there just must be no demand as already stated by xcom923.

well i think it's an issue and if you search the evo thread for volume boost you will see many others have asked too.
I gotta say a bump up of volume wouldn't hurt. Not like my winmo days where volume was awful.
Just a small increase would be nice.
My 2 cents
Ok then why clutter up the forum with another thread that noone wants to bother with. Enable hearing aid in settings-call. That will help with in call volume at least a little bit. Sorry i cant be of more help as well, good luck

they only work for the incall, it's the media and back speaker that need a boost.

I believe DSP manager has a gain function for those that might work.
Dsp manager seemed to tweak bass, mid and trebble slightly but overall volume i didnt notice a change while listening to pandora.
Edit: thats through phone speaker. Headset and bluetooth have several more options but iv never tried

seems louder volume hack v4.0 market app will be released by december. hopefully it supports the evo with froyo.
Don't turn it all the way up. I remember I had a dps manager thing and when I boosted the volume up, my speaker popped and I hear crackling sounds for like 2 weeks. Took it to a Sprint store and got my Evo replaced.

you may be running a rom with the audio boost or a kernel with it baked in, im not.
So is a different rom/kernel not an option for you fixxxer?
Compaired to the I580 and the First motorola droid our speaker is low... But im half deaf anyway.

im running steelh rom and don't want to switch. i have a newer 004 model evo, the current kernels do not work for me.
i guess ill just wait until the new louder volume app hits the market.
can one of the devs here at least tell me what mods you did to the system to give your roms a volume boost? id be happy to do some modding.
I might be half crazy and half deaf but I swear PowerAmp music players pre amp feature jack things up abit..on speaker, with headphones and through my Plantronics BT. Speaking of music only though..but the answer is in his software if he can pre-amp sound.

[Q] My In-Call Volume is Extremely Low !

Hi,
I have a rooted Verizon Gnex, running the stock rom, running 4.1.1, build JR0030, . I just bought it (new) a couple weeks ago from verizon.
The problem is that people whom I'm speaking with on the phone can barely hear me although I have no problem hearing the other person. If I change it to speaker mode, people have no problem hearing me. I have already increased the volume to its maximum while making a phone call this doesn't make a difference on my voice volume when I have don't have the speaker on. I don't speak quiet, either. I'd literally have to yell in order for someone to hear. I have no other volume problems with my phone besides this.
I've searched the forums quite a bit and people have had volume problems but I haven't found any with the same exact volume symptoms as mine.
Is this a hardware issue ? Software ? How to fix this ?
I believe that this may be what you are looking for. I have not tried it myself so I am not sure if it works. I also know that some kernels with give you the ability for higher sound volume.

thanks for the advice. I tried it and it didn't solve the problem. I ended up taking the phone to verizon, they determined it's a hardware defect. Once I return my phone to stock, they'll exchange my phone for a new one.

Mic Mute/Cut Out Problem Still Exists!

I love nearly everything about my Verizon G'Nex, except for the fact that it sucks as a telephone. Voice quality is mediocre, at best, when the phone actually works. Meanwhile, my mic will typically mute itself in mid-conversation leading to "can you hear me?" and "you're hard to hear!" exchanges.
I have tried multiple ROM's and Radio's, including the latest stable CM and the latest stable AOKP. Each flash was clean, as I don't like taking chances with a dirty flash.
I have tried the app "SoundAbout," and the Wired Headset Detection setting is on "IGNORE Plug In/Out Detection (helps if phone is sending invalid plug in/out signals that shut off the speaker/mic)."
I have searched high and low on messageboards (XDA, Androidforums, etc.) to find a solution with no success. It seems that the problem either disappeared for most people and/or people have moved onto other phones. Literally, most threads and posts are from late 2011/early2012.
Issue happens whether I am home, away at work, or in a random parking lot somewhere. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think it is location-related, but rather, is hardware related.
I have 4G turned off.
Does ANYONE know if a fix exists?
On another related note, I am considering picking up a used SGIII from Swappa. I have to go the Used route since I want to keep my Unlimited Data Plan for as long as humanly possible. Does the SGIII have the same mic mute issues? Are there any other poweruser used phones that I should consider?

No one, eh?
I had the problem when my Nexus was on 4.0. When I was updated to 4.2 (stock) the problem went away.
I'm assuming it had more to do with the radio updates then then ROM update.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm on the latest CM which is 4.2.2, and it uses the latest radios, too.
The only other thing I can think of is that my headphone jack might be triggered due to tiny pieces of lint. However, the "SoundAbout" app should be ignoring the jack to begin with.
(Trust me, I'd rather keep the G'Nex rather than spending $300-$400 on a used SGS3, but that seems like the only option considering I can't hold phone conversations anymore).

external speaker sounds low . (devs maybe)

ok guys and girls heres my problem, i work in an automotive shop 8 bays , i have a very large snap-on tool box which i have mounted a computer surround sound system to . every morning 6 days a week i plug my phone in and we all listen to pandora all day. now the plus to this is i can hear every phone call, email or alarm that comes to my phone . used this set up for 2 years with my rezound . well with my new One the music sounds great but alarm sounds and ringtones are very low to the point that i almost cant hear them .also on my rezound music would kinda... not pause but stop for a second when notifications came through then come right back on . the One does not ,the notification just plays on top of the music. does anyone else have this problem ? all my sounds are set to the maximum . im thinking its some sort of programing error and was hoping a dev could fix it ?
thanks guys

Notifications alarms and such (minus phone calls) are very muted without a doubt. Sometimes when I go walking and listen to my music I have issues with that if someone texts or something.

Glad to hear its not just my phone . Now is there anything we can do to fix it ?
Drives me nuts too. Luckily I have the Pebble watch so notifications vibrate my wrist, but I still miss a few when I'm driving down the road streaming music and charging my watch. Looking for a fix or workaround as well.

and all i have had is htc since my first smart phone ,my last being a rezound and the ringtone and alarm sounds were louder than the music .granted nav was lower since htc or google (not sure who) took out navigation volume .
there has to be a fix . this is very annoying

I may be S-OFF but it came with a price-tag, 8 days of stress. Monetary value was also worth it, but being ignored for 2 days while other phones that got there 1-2 days after mine did with no response, not a great process for ME personally, please don't attack me again ppl this is MY experience and opinion.
But,
trust me bro if I knew how I'd do it.. I always do..
I have and never will mess with the audio ESP on this phone.
I could turn it too high because I have no idea what I'm doing and blow all your speakers.
I don't ever claim to be Mr. Amazing DEV either, in-fact according to XDA I am only a Recognized Contributor.
but I digress. I have limited skill. I am not one that can write original code.
I am decent with smali, but again cannot write original code, most devs can't either, in-fact prob 99%.
Does this mean I am worthless as a Developer, IMHO, no, as it's proved on the SG3/SG4.
Basically, my skill range only goes so far, I really do wish I could fix everything you guys ask for, but the reality is, I just am not that talented to accomplish the task, and I',m never embarrassed to admit it. I have an *idea* of where I would start coming from the S4 and call recording, but that entire MOD confused me, so like I said I don't want to change a value and boom there goes ur speakers lol
my notifications come in VERY loud compared to my s3/s4.. I have it set to less than half, FWIW

I think someone would need to use custom rom or custom hacks to do this. Definitely would have to be rooted to fix this. Something like the Viper rom with the extra tweaks it has might accomplish this. I know...this is not avail yet.
It is just a built in protection I bet. It thinks you have headphones on and some of the notifications can be pretty loud.

i guess that could be part of it, for ear protection . probably not to many people running a set of speakers all day for music .

wow, in how many different threads are you going to go off topic and bring this up? You don't want to be bashed for it, stop posting about it.
Where'd your thread go about buying a java card? You make stuff disappear better than houdini.
To the OP, I have noticed this as well. I'm guessing this will definitely require root at least. Maybe devs can incorporate a fix into ROMs.
Those in the know swear an exploit is coming, and that should help things. Personally, I'm sending my phone to colorado. The guy has been 100% perfect on getting the phones s-offed and returned. I think the longest total time has been 10 days.
cool thanks for your input .

HTC 10 Speaker Crackle/Distortion...

Hi guy,
Not sure if anyone else has had this (can't find anything here, or with search engine, so starting to worry it's not software problem), but just the other night, was surfing then all of a sudden, I get this loud horn type noise from my phone... Certainly woke me up! Then stopped... Then no sooner did it stop, again it happened. I check, but my volume is almost at mute. So I close Chrome, and re-open, and haven't heard it since, but now I have noticed my speakers crackle and distort on certain frequencies.
I'm hoping this is just some software issue, that hopefully I can just update, or re-set, but I haven't come across anyone else having this problem.
Please help
Thankyou, O.

Do you have any mods (audio) installed ?
Are you rooted? Running a custom ROM ?
We need a little more information..
If you're completely stock then no it's not normal and I'd put my money on a hardware defect..
If you are rooted with a custom ROM and perhaps some mods installed it still doesn't sound normal and I'd try to go back to a custom but stock type ROM.
Least then you can see; if it replicates, then it's more than likely a hardware issue.
Did u push the speakers a little too much with a mod? Over amplify them or similar? Any water damage? Drops?
From the outset it doesn't look good but until you / we can answer the above we won't know more.
Hopefully it's just a mod gone wrong.
If not then it'll be a defect covered by warranty anyway..So a return to stock and RMA will get it sorted, so a hindrance but not then end of the world.
Let us know.

Hi Dladz,
Sorry I didn't put more info in before.
I'm totally stock (running 7.0). Not running away mods, or audio changes.
I suspect that it is just that, a hardware issue, I was just hoping not. I've never had an issue with any of my HTCs' before, nor have any of my friends. The build quality has always been the best you can get.
I guess it's back to the supplier it goes :/
Thanks for the response,
O.

Ah that is a shame and no worries, I've skipped info before as i'm sure others have and will
I wouldn't let it put you off HTC they do make some rugged devices and I swear by them, speak to a rep and see what RMA would take then get it done mate
All will be well, this wasn't your fault, I'm just thinking what could've caused it if anything?
Playing at loud volume constantly, music or audio with frequencies which put stress on the speaker??? Nah I dunno mate, either way it's not your fault so get yourself a nice replacement
Good luck fella. :good:

Thanks Dladz,
I've loved HTC from the start, and still do. I recommend them to everyone I know and meet. This is just one fault in the entire history of mine and everyone I know who has or had one! I think that is a pretty good fault rate.
I'm already hankering for the HTC Ocean ? Can't wait ?
Cheers,

I had this problem too on my HTC 10 one month and a half ago . I was on leedroid with nebula kernel and no other sound mod and all of the sudden the bottom speaker started to crackle and make many distortioned sounds . I suspected to be the kernel so I asked the developer , but he said that he hasn't touched anything sound related . No one , but only me, had this problem reported on kernel thread . I asked on ROM thread but the same.
Now I see that someone on purely stock had this problem. Only thing I can say is that where I live 2 months ago was a really cold winter and that affected the speaker.
I had send it back to repair services and now it's all good

I just hope they don't put the home button on the back!
It is this same issue that´s making me want to upgrade from my otherwise still great HTC One M8. A distorting top speaker that the repair shop couldn't fix (they tried 3 new speakers, to no avail). It´s very annoying and I am waiting to see if the HTC 11 ticks everything I want in a smartphone:
- Full Metal Chassis
- Stereo Front Speakers
- 64GB of UFS 2.1 Storage
- 4GG of RAM
- Support to Micro SD cards
- Snapdragon 835
- Great low light camera with IOS (like the Pixel)
- Preferably with water resistance
Otherwise, I am buying the HTC 10, which is much cheaper now since it´s been almost a year since it was launched.
I dont understand why we dont even have a Evan Blass rumor about the supposed upcoming HTC 11, that is making me a bit worried...
Cheers
I have the same problem.
Now if anyone know what is the certain solution for this problem?
