[Q] My In-Call Volume is Extremely Low ! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I have a rooted Verizon Gnex, running the stock rom, running 4.1.1, build JR0030, . I just bought it (new) a couple weeks ago from verizon.
The problem is that people whom I'm speaking with on the phone can barely hear me although I have no problem hearing the other person. If I change it to speaker mode, people have no problem hearing me. I have already increased the volume to its maximum while making a phone call this doesn't make a difference on my voice volume when I have don't have the speaker on. I don't speak quiet, either. I'd literally have to yell in order for someone to hear. I have no other volume problems with my phone besides this.
I've searched the forums quite a bit and people have had volume problems but I haven't found any with the same exact volume symptoms as mine.
Is this a hardware issue ? Software ? How to fix this ?

I believe that this may be what you are looking for. I have not tried it myself so I am not sure if it works. I also know that some kernels with give you the ability for higher sound volume.

thanks for the advice. I tried it and it didn't solve the problem. I ended up taking the phone to verizon, they determined it's a hardware defect. Once I return my phone to stock, they'll exchange my phone for a new one.

why no volume hack yet?

other than the slight incall audio boost with some of the kernels why has no dev attempted to do a full audio mod to this phone? even the louder volume hack app hasn't been updated in a year.
im just shocked this phone has been out all of this time and we have come up with nothing. ive seen countless threads on this with no resolution.
thoughts?
my assumption is that it's not really in demand. I'm not really sure why you would even want this. the Evo is plenty loud as is. Plus I have played with the pre-amp on it and when you increase the volume to much more than what it is now it doesn't sound to good.

you may think it needs a boost but im guessing others doing or a hack would have been made
The evo is the first phone iv had where volume is not an issue, in call or notification wise. This is also the first thread iv noticed concerning this issue. Imo there just must be no demand as already stated by xcom923.

well i think it's an issue and if you search the evo thread for volume boost you will see many others have asked too.
I gotta say a bump up of volume wouldn't hurt. Not like my winmo days where volume was awful.
Just a small increase would be nice.
My 2 cents
Ok then why clutter up the forum with another thread that noone wants to bother with. Enable hearing aid in settings-call. That will help with in call volume at least a little bit. Sorry i cant be of more help as well, good luck

they only work for the incall, it's the media and back speaker that need a boost.

I believe DSP manager has a gain function for those that might work.
Dsp manager seemed to tweak bass, mid and trebble slightly but overall volume i didnt notice a change while listening to pandora.
Edit: thats through phone speaker. Headset and bluetooth have several more options but iv never tried

seems louder volume hack v4.0 market app will be released by december. hopefully it supports the evo with froyo.
Don't turn it all the way up. I remember I had a dps manager thing and when I boosted the volume up, my speaker popped and I hear crackling sounds for like 2 weeks. Took it to a Sprint store and got my Evo replaced.
Posted from my EVO 4G running Azrael 2.4 with Dell Stage
This is the first time I've ever heard someone say the Evo isn't loud enough. When I'm out with friends and my phone rings, they always say "Omg, turn that down it's so loud!" Lol

you may be running a rom with the audio boost or a kernel with it baked in, im not.
So is a different rom/kernel not an option for you fixxxer?
Compaired to the I580 and the First motorola droid our speaker is low... But im half deaf anyway.

im running steelh rom and don't want to switch. i have a newer 004 model evo, the current kernels do not work for me.
i guess ill just wait until the new louder volume app hits the market.
can one of the devs here at least tell me what mods you did to the system to give your roms a volume boost? id be happy to do some modding.
I might be half crazy and half deaf but I swear PowerAmp music players pre amp feature jack things up abit..on speaker, with headphones and through my Plantronics BT. Speaking of music only though..but the answer is in his software if he can pre-amp sound.

[Q] my voice returning to earpiece

Hi, I'm having a weird issue on my defy. Basicly, during a regular phone conversation, when I speak I can hear my voice out from the earpiece.
There is no delay in it and It's not so bad really (sometimes I don't even notice it) and I don't think I couldn't live with it, but for now I still do notice it which is not very good.
For the record, it's a B33, hence from the older or "unsafe" series... but in my theory, this should not related to the widely acclaimed earpiece problems.
What do you think?
How loud is it?
I haven't noticed it myself but instantaneous feedback is used on phones to stop the user from shouting into their phones unnecessarily.
Otherwise it could be the other person on the line using a speaker-phone or something.
not very loud actually, you just know it's there, and it's for all persons I'm calling, not limited only to one... as said, there is no delay whatosver, just some presence of your own voice coming out from the earpiece. a bit difficult to describe... maybe a lot of people dont even notice it...
now I tried to record my voice with a voice recording app and there is no such feedback
I can hear my own voice like an eco when I talk to others.. it is very annoying and I have had my phone repaired for broken earpiece speaker. That did not fix the eco problem. I have also got my phone replaced once because of other problems, still has eco when speaking.
My wife says she doesn't hear it when she use my phone. But I'm very annoyed about stuff like this.
It do help a bit if I hold my phone different and a bit further away from my mouth when I talk in it.
if I could I would return it now, I thought I could ignore it when I got used to it but now I can't (had it since december) and now I'm dreaming of other phones to replace my Defy... most likely a Nexus S so I get vanilla android.
for how long you have the phone? it could be a defective piece , mine is from the older pieces too made in november 2010 but hasnt any problems for now anyway i own it from one month and it will be no suprise for me if it starts making problems...
I have experienced this from time to time. I first noticed that it was happening primarily when my phone was switching to edge connection from the 3g. Someone else suggested that when this happens it is because the user is speaking too loud. I have tried lowering my voice when I get the echo and it does go away. However, this still only seems to happen when the signal switches. Perhaps pay closer attention and see if it is the same for you? Definitely try lowering your voice. I did a test with my wife on the other end and when I lowered my voice she said I sounded the same to her but my echo went away.

but are you experiencing the echo also with delay? this only happens sometimes
and most of the times occurs when the person you are calling has the volume of the earpiece too high so the microphone is able to catch it and there you have the echo with delay.
but in my case there is no delay, it's just like my voice is directly amplified to the earpiece.
I've had 2 Defys so far and have noticed the echo whenever I speak slightly loud with both phones,i think it's supposed to be a feature or something so that you know how you sound because it's also found among other devices

thanks a lot. actually it could make sense because if you think of the defy as a rugged phone and it's meant to be used in difficult conditions where the user tends to speak too loudly.
I got defy about a week ago and i also had this issue. I returned the phone to the shop that i bought it and i am waiting for them to check it in order to get a replacement.
Also,i have noticed that i hear my own voice through the speaker a bit amplified and without any lag when i talk with my mouth close to the microphone. This was not only happening while i was having a conversation in a call, but from the very first moment that the call was launched.
For instance, when i was talking during the dial tone and before the recipient has accepted the call, i was keep getting my voice back through the speaker. That can exclude any network related cause of the problem.
So i can't understand if this is a normal condition or a problem and i am anxious about the new device that i will get. I think that i got in all that trouble for nothing and the replacement is gonna be like the first one... Is there any way to avoid it?
The brand new defy that i got as a replacement arrived. It has the echo problem too... Hands Up.The phone is so good apart from this issue. It is so annoying though i would be glad if i could get it fixed.

Bad call quality? Anyone else?

Both my brother and I are having problems with bad call audio quality. Anyone else having these problems or know a fix.
Running stock 4.0.2.
Tried different sim cards.
Both signals was full.
Was talking with my brother earlier today, and he said it sounded like I only used vowels, and that he have had the same complaints.

Had a few different iterations of this problem. My wife had a bad mic and it sounded like "she was under water" returned it, no problem. Now sometimes she sounds just a little weird with the new one. I chalk it up to the fact we live in the sticks of Rootstown OH. Are other people complaining of your problems or are you guys complaining of eachothers?
There are others that have complained as well, but I get the complains when I use my headset as well. Using a Bose QC15 with the iPhone mic/cable.
I have been having issues with echo (hearing back what I say on about a 1 second delay, which can be extremely distracting).
I don't know if it's the phone, my provider, or possibly that the other person has me on speakerphone, since it seems to be more noticable on business calls- or I could be noticing it on business calls more because I'm trying to concentrate and the echo can derail my train of thought.
It's a bit of a mystery...anyone else have this echo or know the cause/solution?
Bad Quality Call Galaxy Nexus (ME TOO)
Hi guys the last two weeks i'm experiencing a weird problem with my galaxy nexus ics 4.0.2. When i'm calling someone i'm hearing a "wind" noise ...it's like psssss....something when i'm trying my headset the "wind" noise became worst, note that i;m hearing the same noise when someone call me ...I TRIED A LOT OF THINGs ... I used other headsets ....i changed the sim card....i tried another provider (i'm on 3g) ...but this noise remain .... do you think it's a problem that it can be fixed with the upcoming 4.0.4 update...should i return my galaxy back and try another one, or reset the phone?
P.S. Thnks in advance, have you heard when are we going to get an update?(4.0.4)
yup. The sound quality is not that great. Some times, I can hear my voice being repeated when I am talking on the phone.
I'm having the same problem. People complain that they hear an echo when I talk.
try turning down the ear piece volume the mic can pick it up if its too loud

[Q] In call mic volume is too loud\distorted

Hi everyone
I've tried searching everywhere but no luck.
The microphone in-call volume on my GNexus is too loud and distorted (maybe too much gain?).
People keep on complaining about it especially when I'm in loud environments.
I've tried returning to stock and installing CM10 but no changes.
Since it's still under warranty, shall I have it checked?
Edit: I'm now running stock with Franco kernel.
Thank you
An update: I had the mic changed by Samsung and the problem is still there.
It seems like the mic has too much gain or the volume is too high. If the phone is far (10-15cm) from my mouth the sound is normal but the environment noise is still pretty high.
I don't know what to do now.

It looks like your microphone is defective, that can happen if you have gotten dirt/metal debris into the reciever (though i dont know how that can happen on the gnex).

Just to let you know. It's happening with the Nexus 4 too. Been searching on this for a while, and it's disappointing to know that the GNex also has this problem and hasn't been fixed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046613

[Q] Speakerphone Problems?

Hi folks,
Has anyone actually got the speakerphone to function on this phone?
Talking to several different people now, they struggle to hear me. It's almost as if the sound cuts out, and it's held pretty close to my face.
I often need the speakerphone while i'm busy doing other things and it seems impossible with this handset.
Not sure what I am doing wrong. Have tried all kinds of settings.
