Ok here we go,
I have a MDA compact III which i have taken apart and am in the process of manufacturing a new custom case for, this is something that i notice not many people seem to do, at least i havn't seen any photos of someone doin this - maybe someone else should give it a try and post something... i'll post images of mine when i'm done.
Anyway what i really wanted to talk about was a custom docking station i want to make. i intend to use the mini USB port on my phone for both a method of charging through my computer but i also want to use it as the hands free... but this is the tricky bit... i want to use my computer as the hands free device i.e. use the mic and speakers connected to my computer all at the same time while charging my phone... sounds complicated ay? this is why i need your help... i can manufacture the dock and everything else but the hardware/software issues im well not that great at... please help and maybe give it a try yourselves... it'll be cool to see what everyone comes up with!
Cheers, Benjamin

i like your attempt...sounds damn interesting...i'm afraid i can't help you much about the handsfree thing.but i'd like to see some pics of your modded or custom housing. and by the way i'm not sure any device supports that kind of handsfree ,for now,at least over usual usb connection with pc....but nothing is impossible

Maybe you need something like that : http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Headphone-4...yZ150774QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Or alternativly that one : http://cgi.ebay.com/3-in-1-Stereo-a...ryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
so you can transfer the sound from your artemis to yous PC and at the sametime sync/charge it!
you know what, i reckon that might work, i could take a feed from the mic and also use the 3.5mm jack run through my amp to my speakers. i had hopped for a software alternative using the USB port, but on further thought and now i've seen this device i think this is the only way that i'm going to be able to do it. thanks for your input, i'll purchase one of those adapters and post what i come up with.
Cheers,
Benjamin
I've been looking at the differant ROMs and finally decided to try one out. However, my 8525's USB port doesn't work properly anymore. I can not transfer data with it, only charge my phone. I was wondering if there are reliable ways to flash my phone without a usb connection to my PC.
Check the 2 links in my sig. Lucky for you that you realised your USB port was dodgy prior to flashing, alas many find out after trying...w

Thanks very much.
Any recommendations? I know you get that question all the time, but it's worth asking since I'm new to this.
This is a question to the Developers here on XDA, especially the ones that are developing for the Desire HD.
I would like to point this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694427
Like you readers have already read it's about USB Host functionality on the Nexus One.
On the following link you will find a thread of this being ported to the HTC Desire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702742
The Question is, if there someone who knows how to get this to work on the HTC Desire HD and is willing to do that? It's not a practical functionality but it's sure is cool to have the possibility to connect your external HD, USB Controller, USB Mouse or whatever USB device on your Desire HD.
From my little knowledge i think that the modules need to be implemented in a Kernel, Maybe it would be a nice project for someone who works on Kernels? I don't know how to support the Desire HD with this feature, I hope someone can.
Kind Regards,
Shar!ngaN
I looked at this last night, but without having an adapter, I cannot test it.
I can however build you a kernel with USB Host compiled in tonight when I get home.
Would be nice to know if it will actually work
Send me a PM if you are interested.
Edit: Thanks for those links Interesting reading and info I need.
Edit 2: Adapter ordered.

I've ordered an USB Host adapter around December last year, but it still hasn't arrived. So i actually cannot test it at this stage. However i would like to see that Kernel and would love to test it (As soon as my adapter arrives).
Thanks
Question: Do you only need an adapter to connect normal size USB to mini USB? Will the dhd have enough power/voltage to run a flashstick so you don't need external power?
If i only need an adapter i'm in for testing if it's compatible with CM7
I have an adapter lying around from using it on my N900 that had USB otg/host mode
From the video's i saw of Sven Killig's, that's the man who achieved USB Host functionality on the Nexus One. He powered his USB devices trough a self-powered USB hub.
@Shar!ngaN: As soon as I get my adapter, I will start messing with it.
But as you know with DealExtreme, that can take up to 30 days to arrive.
Yes i'm quite sure you will need an external self-powered hub.
I have already purchased all the equipment i need so i just need to get into the nitty gritty of modifying the phone. I need help on this!!
I have been playing with compiling this functionality into a custom kernel, but I dont know if everything is ok.
Will read up on the other phone's thread to see if I missing something.
@Mr. Blobby: Are you willing to reflash your kernel? This will be a requirement.
Ok that's no problem, and thank you very much,
Yes i am willing to do that, however i have been told it is very risky and you need to know what you are doing when carrying out the process. As a result, i am waiting to find out if someone can help me with it as i know nothing about smartphones and i don't want to end up breaking the phone.
Thanks alot.
I have the adapter and im awaiting the kernel (hope it works with the Telus version)
Flashing the kernel is not risky as long as you backup first. Use Rom manager.

ooo ok thats a relief thanks!!
can someone please tell me what i first need to do? do i first need to root the phone as it is not yet rooted. If so, how do i go about doing it without 'bricking' the phone?
Thanks!!
Bump, any news on this

I'm still waiting too
i've got all the cables and stuff i just need to know how to re-flash kernel and root the phone etc
Anybody got it working allready?
I've gut the stuff to do it but i have no idea how to build the kernels and stuff
will be great to see it on an cm7 kernel
Too bad, still nothing
From the https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/gingerbread/CHANGELOG.mkdn, it seems that CyanogenMod has got USB Host included from version 7.1.0.
I am using the JellyBean - Jelly Time ROM and wish to use my DSLR via the USB host feature, but not sure how to do it yet I have the OTG cable(http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170844328875).
Any pointers anyone?
CM doesn't have USB host for all devices. In the change log - "Encore: USB host support - Verygreen". That's only for s specific device. If it was listed as 'Common' then it would be for all devices.

Hello,
I've searched the forums and made no conclusion whether this would work or not so I'm starting a new thread. So I'll be living in halls for some time and in the halls there is no wi-fi only ethernet cable and bringing a router is not allowed
So my question is will a micro usb to lan adapter work on Note 2? Has anyone tried it? And are there any other solutions to this problem?
Big thanks for any response. :highfive:
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it work. I've tried several kernels, with stock rom, but no luck.

That's bad I read somewhere that these work with phones that support OTG cables but idk. Are you sure you tried a Micro USB adapter and not a regular USB one plugged in with an OTG cable?

You 're right, I've tried the regular with OTG cable! My fault ..

It's good to know it doesn't work with an OTG cable. Has anyone tried a Micro USB to Ethernet adapter and wants to share his thoughts?
Bump! ^:fingers-crossed:
I am able to get my usb ethernet adapter working by following this thread. Running on Omega V16.

Can u provide us a little more info? Which Note do u own, kernel, etc? Did u compiled something yourself or did u find something precompiled? Thanks!!
From the middle of nowhere to the center of everywhere!!
I'm using N7100 running Omega 17 (XXDMC3) standard kernel.
I used the precompiled driver provided by gingerneil in that thread and followed the steps.
I've come to realize that only a selective amount of OTG cables work on this phone, can someone please recommend some? thanks.

If you've come to realize that only certain ones work, then why aren't you informing us which ones?? I personally didnt know Z2+ did OTG but I guess ROMS can change this..

because i want to know aswell?
As far as I have tested or seen, Any USB C Type OTG cable or connectors work with Z2 Plus.
Here is one such cheap connector I am using for connecting my USB pen / thumb drives.
Working is more depended on data partition of the drive. Some time some ROM finds it difficult detect NTFS. FAT32 works fine most of the time.
