Missing features (apps) for migrated user from iPhone to S3 - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

Hi everybody,
I start this thread that the newly migrated iPhone users to S3 (like me) get help in finding missing features. If already started I apologize and the thread should be removed, if not perhaps it will be useful for many people.
I miss from my old iPhone (Cydia):
- SwipeSelection: position the cursor when texting by swiping on the keyboard. Also text selection by keeping the shift pressed and swiping again the keyboard. It's far more effective.
- AskToSend: send message confirmation like "Are you send you want to send?". Useful while sms texting and hitting the send button accidentally.
Do you have any ideas where I can find something similar?

I would search the Play Store.

I did but without success

Asktosend ------> Handcent sms is an alternative to stock sms app and have the "confirm send sms"
Swipeselection is already implemented in android whitout press shift.you can select text "long pressing the text"
Sorry for bad english

Any way to review all messages in Message Tab?

hi Guys
I was wondering whether there is a way to review all messages in the Message Tab?
It shows the last message that was received and i have to finger scroll up and down to see all the messages. Moreover, it doesn't show me all the sent messages too, so trying to figure out what the message was related to has led to some confusing conversation.
Is there a way to show all the messages in the tab ? Tried looking for it on this search forum, but I wasn't able to find any, possibly due to the wrong keywords.
Thanks !
I'm assuming you mean in the TouchFlo 3D interface... It took me a while to stumble on this one myself (but it made sense thinking about the interface with other tabs), but you can go through the messages by dragging your finger up and down on the message on-screen. Dragging bottom-to-top goes backwards chronologically, and top-to-bottom goes forward.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the post.
Yeah i know that is how to go through the messages.
I was hoping i could see all messages displayed on the tab, instead of one message.
Is there a way to do this ?
I don't think that's possible, but you can tab on the message to open up the TF3D interface to view the conversation thread with the recipient, or click on All Messages (left softkey menu) to open the Windows Mobile interface to see the list of messages with various recipients.
Thanks for the reply.
That kinda is inconvenient. i would like to see all the new messages from different people, and i had already missed a few messages without thinking of going through the All Messages tab.
Wished there was a way to see all incoming new messages from different people at least.
Seeing as how it's still WM 6.1, I figured I'd just reuse all the old programs from my Wing. So I reinstalled the 750v palm threaded SMS program (which overwrites the current messaging app) and all was good in the world. Well, only somewhat...
Unfortunately, MMS no longer works which is really weird because it worked perfectly fine on my Wing. Now when I try to send a MMS, I keep getting the "Out of Memory" error. Oddly enough, I never got that error on the Wing... and it had a fraction of the memory compared to this beast.
Hopefully when 6.5 comes out, this can be resolved (or a program that automatically marks all your SMS's as read). Until then, the only solution I have been able to find has already been mentioned... and that's to manually swipe through each message. Sucks if you're a big texter since you can easily rack up tens (if not hundreds) of messages in a short period of time.
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, i am a huge texter and i am loving the TP2. I could practically write an essay on it, and i won't feel like it is bogging me down.
Hence why i had "ignored" so many messages lol
With my Vodafone brnaded Touch Pro2 the left soft key is programmed to show "all messages" guess this is what you want but not sure how they managed it, I presume it is a reg edit. Maybe someone else knows which one.
Cheers

This is an interesting thread, as it highlights the design vs. functionality features of TF3D. As the author of this thread, me too would like to be able to see more than one message on the SMS tab and also have the option to have the reply go to the standard WM6.1 windows instead of the TF3D reply.

You can already do this... kind of. When you go to the SMS tab, click left softkey for "All Messages." This will take you to the default SMS program you have on your phone (in my case, it will launch the Palm Threaded SMS). From here you can reply to any messages you have received. It takes a little longer to reply because you have to open the default SMS program then click the thread you want to reply to. Either way, it works.
Hope this helps!
Yeah I do heavy texting and emails but the touch flow 2d is really crappy. You can't even copy and paste!
I know I shouldn't say it but just simple think like the the safari web browser, sms messaging and big onscreen keypad is being missed on my iphone.

You can't copy and paste in the TP2 text program? Something I do every day on my Mogul? Geez, I really want this phone when it comes to Sprint, but that doesn't sound to good

Yeah it SMS on touchflo sucks bad. I am little weary with my purchase so far since I don't know I've run into a lot these little disappointments.
I guess I was spoiled by the iphone simple and clean interface. Even the dialpad seems kind of small and awkward to use. I am just hoping for some hardspl mods so I can see if this device can still woo me.
You CAN copy & paste from any SMS. Just open the message, or scroll down (if in threaded mode) to the item you want to copy, tap MENU, check SELECT TEXT, highlight the text, tap & hold then select copy.
It's 1 more step than before when I can simply highlight the text or number directly without having to tap menu. I guess the new TouchFlo 3D will have problems guessing if we want to highlight some text or scroll left/right when we slide our fingers across.

When you said threaded mode, i am assuming you meant the Windows Mobile SMS app right ?
This is to clarify that the TF3D doesn't have the select text->cut and paste functionality but the Windows Mobile app does. You need to click on the left soft key "All messages" to bring up the Windows Mobile SMS screen, select the conversation, and you can then use Putra's instructions for text selection, copy and paste functionality.
Yes, in TF3D (or manila 2d), you can only read 1 sms at a time and limited to reply, forward & delete.
If you want to copy & paste, you need to open the Win Mob SMS application as outlined by btong1978

Anyway to fix this dual texting crap?

Delete.
One's man burden is another man's blessing!
Most folks seem to hate the threaded SMS which you like, for reasons including that you get such a tiny little area to see what you've typed, plus you don't have the option of adding other recipients.
I'm not trying to get into a debate about it .. just hoping to point out that there is more than one solution to your problem of "dual texting crap": I haven't seen any tweaks to embrace the nice new interface, but here is one for killing it and sticking with the tried and tested 30 year old way ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373681
BTW .. a bonus is that once you have applied this, you can easily change your mind later and simply go and toggle the value between 0 and 1 without rebooting the device
Hope this helps
I have to agree with vin5cent0, I bl**dy hate the WM SMS reply interface. It's _so_ ugly. I don't care for threaded SMS's though.
Maybe you'd like Vito SMS-Chat, vin5cent0?
I prefer the TF3d threaded interface over the windows mobile interface as well. However it only appears accessable by replying to a message on the messaging tab in TF3d. Any new message or other way of replying to a message brings up the older WM interface. I would like be able to use the TF3d threaded interface for all the ways you can send a text.
This is the first i've seen someone wanting to actually embrace the TF3d message interface. It's woefully inferior to the WM one for the following reasons:
1.) Lack of character counter for sending message
2.) No support for signatures
3.) Phone numbers aren't clickable
4.) URL's aren't clickable
5.) Stupid Soft Key for Sent isn't the same as WM messaging program and is back (without confirmation) instead of send resulting in lost messages
6.) Reply to: screen / threaded view TERRIBLY SLOW when you have a lot of messages - we're talking 10 seconds pauses sometimes when pulling it up or replying (I imported all my SMS from my old phone so I have 9k text messages currently...)
I'll take functionally over "prettiness" any day. If they can fix these issues, I'd use it again I suppose. For now I'm using the "zoom sms" hack to disable the TF3d reply to interface and it goes to the WM instead.

[Q] Is there a keyboard that also has a quick text option?

Hello everyone, quick question. Does anyone know of a keyboard for the Evo that has a built custom text option. And by this, I mean something like a list that I quickly pull up to enter into a text field anywhere in the phone (sms, internet browser, etc). I had a windows phone prior to the Evo and they had few KB that I was able to make a custom list of common words, usernames, etc that was easily accessible. Any help is greatly appreciated
Keyboards, I don't know, but I know that handcent lets you input and select quick messages for texts; you can use the preset or create your own.
Thanks for the response. Is this a feature that is only good for adding into sms or will it work in other parts of the phone (like the internet browser)? If it is the latter i might check it out. THanks
The new Swype has T9 style word selection

[Q] which is the Fastes ROM for calling John Doe?

Hello to everybody.
I'm trying to find out which is the fastest ROM ICS based for doing the following, where fastest means less number of touch on the screen or number of seconds before getting the desired result:
Call John Doe, when you have in the agenda also John Dui, John Ash, John Bone, John Cut and may be some other John as well as some more Doe (Albert, Stefan, Nat).
And then the same for opening the screen into input mode for sending him an SMS.
I used to have also Blackberry (oh yes, nice email reader but not very nice phone/smartphone), but with it, in every point of the user i/f calling John Doe would mean:
press the red button, press J, press space, press D.
I sow different behavior depending ont the ROM on the phone, but before trying all of them, if anyone can post his result it would be very appreciated.
thanks
Luca
Mate, you talking about speed dial or something?
As far as I'm aware there is no speed dial in the stock ICS or Sony dialers. Most if not all custom roms for ARC either use the Sony stock dialer or ICS stock dialer.
There are a few ways however that you can overcome this:
* On the dialer you can select "contacts", long press on someones name and select "add to favorites". Do this for every one you need. Then on the bottom right of the dialer, select "groups" then "star" on the top right. There will be a screen with all the people which you have added to "favorites". When you touch them you have the option of calling or SMS'ing them.
* You can also go to the Google Play Store and search for "speed dial" and download an app to set your friends on the speed dial list or speed dial widget if you want them on your screen. You can then call or SMS. Widgets are probably faster as you can have all people on the screen without opening dialer
* Probably not when your looking for but typing the first few letters of the name of the person on the dialer will bring up their name. You can touch once to call or press and hold the name for the option to send sms.
P.S You seem to have a lot of friends named John
The new ICS has a feature where you can start typing s name and it will narrow it down for you. Or just add them to favorites
@adielee
not speed dial, just a faster and intuitive dialler.
@irononreverse
something like this. May be the right question would be: which is the most intuitive and fast dialler, and feature rich?
I mean, press home button, touch receiver icon, then touch 5 (jkl), touch space, touch 3 (def)
I'm using today boosthd rom, and in the dialpad is not possible to touch "space" (may be I was not able to find the method)
Also in this rom, it is possible to order t9 selection based on name first or number first (by means of the option screen). But it is not possible to show ONLY name or ONLY numbers. This means that the list by touching 2-3 digits is really long.
anyone else have other ideas/solutions/suggestion?
thanks
Luca
I've been using Google Search app/widget for quick contact access on stock ROM, what I do is I limit searchable items in it's settings to just contacts, and when you start typing, it will act just like quick contacts search.
And you can always use voice search command, launch Voice Search and say "Call John Doe"

Autocorrect tweak

Hey all, this isn't really gnex specific but I have a question about the stock jb keyboard: I'm really liking it and all, but having just come from iOS there's something that irks me a bit. Specifically while it does autocorrect on typing a space or punctuation, it doesn't do so when, for example, hitting send in the text message or email editor. This is annoying for me because I'd become used to that behaviour in iOS and now am sending off texts in which the last word is essentially gibberish...
Any way to change this in the stock keyboard? Alternatively, is there a different (and good) keyboard with this feature?
Cheers

Add a space at the end. It will not auto correct until it knows you are done with the word. What you are describing is predictive text and it does not "auto predict". It will predict and show words above the keyboard that you can choose, but that is all.
