[Q] AOKP jb vs paranoid android jb - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm currently on paranoid android ( CM10 hybrid) and I'm thinking about going to AOKP (jb). Here's the problem:
I'm having very little problems on PA and the problems I had were my fault. I've also fell in love with tablet ui. But that's all the rom comes with, tablet ui and dpi changer. Not hating on pa but AOKP has all those features I like. The problem is Im scared about getting those horrifying sods and rr on AOKP. Also I really like tablet ui. I've heared that tablet ui on AOKP isn't as legit as PA's. Or is it? That's why I'm asking you guys. Oh and don't tell me to run tw roms like the Jedi roms. Those are great roms and my favorite for sure. But I just want to try out jb for a change. So which rom should I choose?

I'm running Task650's AOKP and I'm loving it. I was thinking Paranoid Android but i figure why change. They are very close!

I'm running tablet ui on aokp right now and I promise you it is just as legit as paranoid android's tablet ui lol. The only thing you really lose is the ability to change the resolution of the ui and the theming capability. But next to that you should be good. I'm running aokp milestone right now and it is smooth as butter.

AOKP vs Sprint ROMs

In my previous life with my TouchPro2, I used the AOSP roms and they worked well. With my Galaxy S II / D710, I've only used the Sprint based ROMs.. including the latest FC07.
I haven't found any posts comparing the AOKP ROM (which, unless I'm mistaken is based off of AOSP) to these Sprint ROMs..
Are there any major differences or anything that the AOKP ROMs will not do?
I'd be curious to hear opinions from people who have tried both and why they ended up with one over the other.
thx
Just to clarify, they're not "Sprint ROM's", they're called "Touchwiz ROM's". The Touchwiz UI is added on top of Android by Samsung then Sprint adds some apps and there you have it. Now I shall let someone who has experience with AOKP answer better for you since I do not have any experience with AOKP yet.
To be quite honest, there's nothing that one can do that the other probably cant. AOKP and AOSP tend to have more things built into the ROM itself like overclocking, etc.
But in the end, no, there's nothing I can think of that one can do that the other can't. There may be something out there, but I've not come across it yet. I've used both, and I prefer somethings about each.

There are some things like cm7 you could use Wii mote with the Bluetooth stack and could not on touch wuz....aokp is cm 9 on steroids..... Lots more customizable

I haven't tried an AOKP rom but I'm assuming it's very similar to an AOSP rom. I personally think an AOSP rom as a lot less bloat, and right out of the box it's very customizable, but I switched back to a touchwiz rom because I think the samsung camera app is one of the best camera apps out there, plus I think touchwiz runs a lot better on our phones.
Aside from a few "bugs" here and there with the FCxx roms that they are basing the AOKP roms off of, there are only a few faults. One I keep on running into is the Netflix problem. Hell, aside from getting sick of trolling this place for over a year combined with my Streak 7 and my E4GT, I had to try and get in on the action with FC and FB "leaks", CM9, AOKP, and other 2.3 based rom fun.
But seriously, the only problem I have keeping me from making AOKP a daily driver is the Netflix problems. I need my netflix for work.

aokp is being ported right now but it is just like cm9 it's built from aosp source code ... And not being based off any of the fc or fb leaks .... They are using kernels from them with changes because there is no kernel source to build a aosp kernel with right now

And I learn something new every day.
As a side note: I like AOKP because of pink unicorns.

[Q] Stock or AOKP?

Ok, So I've been on a custom ROM (specifically an AOKP based one running jellybean) and damn... I do miss the fluidness of touchwiz and having almost no bugs, which I expect since there isn't no stable release of CM10 yet. I was wondering, have you ever waffled between CM and the stock TouchWiz interface? If so, do you think making the jump back to stock is such a huge deal?

I waffle weekly between AOKP and Ariel...no issues. I keep a good CWM backup of each and when an update for one comes out I update my backup. I run AOKP, start missing smart stay or some other native feature so I load up Ariel for a week or so then I miss the custom-ness of AOKP and I load up that goodness. I've never had a major issue switching back and forth.
Hope that helps.

If you download the "M" versions of CM10, those are the monthly stable builds. I use to run M2 for a while and it was nice, really smooth and mostly no bugs. But I've switched back and forth between TW and Stock builds and I'm staying with stock since 4.2 is coming out Monday, and will hopefully be released to AOSP very soon as well. It's all preference.

I haven't went back to stock since I flashed ParanoidAndroid. 2.5 is pretty stable, but I do miss the stock camera app. At least I have ProCapture. Same as stock.
Edit: I'm on ParanoidKangdroid now. It's pretty awesome.

AOKP for months now. I just like having control over so many functions that you just can't do on stock. But same here I miss the stock camera app.
I can't even begin to tell u how many times I've done that...I was originally stock ICS rooted but had a craving for jb...
So I flashed a aokp ROM (tasks) and it was beautiful...but then I missed the nice pretty tw and switched back only to realize the only thing I missed was the camera...
Its safe to say I am now back to a nice cm10 based paranoidKANGdroid ROM and i don't see myself switching anytime soon

I came from Task/Ktoonez AOKP on my GS2 and flashed it immediately after rooting my GS3. Don't miss TW at bit, of course it is hard to miss something that you've never used . I have never had any problems with either that wasn't of my own fault, or that couldn't be easily fixed and have no plans of changing anytime in the foreseeable future.

What are your opinion of AOKP roms?

I'm not too new to Android. I'm not a developer, just a lover of the system. I hated the stock rom on my SGS3 and rooted and flashed the device to put some new roms on it. I've bounced around from rom to rom. I've settled on the ParanoidAOKPdroid rom.
I have some problems with it being stable (mostly sleep of deaths), but I expect that with any custom rom. So my question to you guys is this, What AOKP rom is the best rom that you've found? What one is the most stable, easiest to use, ect..
I found aokp on my samsung infuse 4g. I used to try a new rom every two weeks or so. Once I installed aokp on my infuse I have not had any real desire to go to any other rom which has xfered to my sgs3. I'm currently using task and ktoonsez's aokp and haven't tried the other ones for the s3 to give you my opinion on them.
Ive used task's aokp before. Its pretty solid and stable. I dont recall getting SOD on his aokp. I would recommend giving it a try.

Yeah, I use task's and toonz AOKP rom as well. Its amazing. Can't go back to TW after this.
I've run AOKP on my past Galaxy Player 5.0, and now I'm using task's AOKP on my GS3. It's really great - a lot of useful new features (which makes it much easier in day-to-day use), it's really fast, but I wouldn't call it quite as stable as touchwiz roms. It's not actually unstable at all, just touchy sometimes. I've never had a sleep of death or anything running task's ROM, usually any funkyness is my fault.
There's a definite learning curve to AOKP, it's a much more "vanilla android" experience than touchwiz but it's worth it. I just make sure I have a backup in TWRP (or CWM if you choose to use it) made frequently while I'm playing with stuff. Get AOKP installed and stable => do a backup. Install some more stuff, get it stable => do a backup, etc. This way you can play with stuff and not worry about breaking anything, you can go right back to where you were if you happen to make it unstable in any way.
Oh, and KT747 kernel is definitely worth a try too. EXCELLENT kernel.

[Q] AOKP Vs CM10.1

Hey guys. I love flashing new ROMs but right now I'm a bit confused.
What are the big differences between CM10.1 and AOKP? I know both are based on 4.2 (at least the unofficial AOKP nightlies are).
The main thing I need is stability and battery life. I also really like customizing the LED. Other than that...I'm lost.
Stock ROM.........................................................................................................................................................................................................
just try them out yourself.........................
I have tried them both out.
Once I install a theme and Nova Launcher, I can't tell the difference.
Just compare the feature lists. Or use CNA or PACman which incorporate features from both.
I'd say the CM10.1 & CM10.1 Kangs would be better if you want a stable ROM with frequent flashing (Nightlys) over AOKP , otherwise try Xylon as it has best features cherrypicked from both AOKP , AOSP & CM bases :good: & highly customizable + a good support thread too !!
Paranoid Android is also a better option but the PA is no more a CM base rom (AOSPA base instead) , missing those theming & more CM features .
for a closer to stock UX RasbeanJelly is the best !

I would try this if you have a GSM galaxy nexus. Ive heard great things about speed, stability and it has built in led settings. Great battery life as well.

Looking for real AOSP 4.4x ROM

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a stock-like (vanilla) ROM based on Android 4.4x.
I tried some AOSP ROMs, but they were full of bloated 3rd party apps and annoying mods.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Have you tried Shiny ?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Not yet, but I'm going to.
Like @crs7 said,Shiny is your best bet. Its like what official stock 4.4 would have been for our device. If you want slightly more features like theme chooser and reordering quick toggles,I'd suggest Paranoid Android.

I tried Paranoid Android (latest stable build), it's really decent, but i was having random graphical lags on my device.
Hmm, running the alpha build. It seems fine for me
I flashed Shiny ROM and that's pretty much what I wanted.
There is a minor graphical lag there-and-there. I guess it appears on all 4.4x ROMs... I can live with it.
I'll give Paranoid Android another try.
I'm going with Paranoid, it seems a lot more stable than Slim. Thanks for the advice.
Shiny would be your way to go if you want to get the most of AOSP and no more. but if you want a bit more features than what AOSP offered, try Paranoid Android 4.44, you will like its balanced stability and usability.
