Permission Denied. Read Only - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I am trying to root my Arc S using this tutorial (posted by Overlord)
this tutorial is for 4.1.B.0.587 only!
1) flash the 4.1.A.0.562 kernel http://www.mediafire.com/?twn09p8ekug46f7 (thanks to sathurnn)
note: you might get errors after the reboot, don't worry, this is normal and step 3 will fix that.
2) root your Arc/s with DooMLoRD's tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1601038
3) flash the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel
Arc kernel only:
http://i.minus.com/1345398372/ZK_e-m...ernel_only.ftf
Arc S kernel only:
http://i.minus.com/1345808607/vsMMtn...ernel_only.ftf

Click to collapse
Now I flash the kernel he provides with the Flashtool and although it doesnt return any errors, at the end when it says "Phone is now rebooting" it doesnt actually reboot. When I unplug it, it reboots just fine but then when I try to root my Arc S using Doomlords root tool also provided above it returns "Permission Denied. Read-only. Could not install Superuser.apk" and other Permission denied errors.
I have got USB Debugging enabled and Unkown sources. I have a locked bootloader, do I have to unlock it first?
Thanks!

Yes, you must unlock bootloader to use flashtool.

Only if you want to flash a kernel.

are your adb drivers enabled? i tried tooting my arc s before and i thought that if i connect it and install the drivers i can go to rooting but then i found out that my windows don't enable the drivers automatically so i had to do it manually.
Thanks for sharing so much information. We'll definitely help you now.
Seriously. Give us more information, what phone, what firmware, what method you are trying to use. Otherwise - No.
Flash stock ROM .587
Set Settings->Xperia->USB Connectivity to MSC
Set USB Debugging
Enable Unknown Sources
flash the ready to root kernel .431
apply the root toolkit
flash stock .587 kernel
It worked for me

[Q] arc updates

hI,
i m using xperia arc , 4.0.4 build number 4.1.b.0.431 rooted. when i try to update to version 4.1.b.0.587 through OTA, i m getting the error "could not install"
so please guide me to get updated to that.
thanks in advance.
Have you installed any mods, or CWM?
That might prevent you from updating OTA. You can root 587 directly though by doing the sane process as 431.
Sent from my LT15a using xda-developers app
Prerequisites:
- Instert .587 fw in Flashtool/firmwares
- Insert .431 and .587 kernel in Flashtool/firmwares
1. Open flashtool. Press the thunderbolt / scar or whatever it is. Select firmware .587.
2. When it is prepared, power off ur phone. Press back key and connect it. Flash it.
3. When the device has rebooted, do the same but flashing the 431 kernel
4. Root the phone with DoomLord toolkit
5. Flash the .587 kernel by the same method
U will have rooted 587
I don't know if there is any newer method, since I have ul bootloader and I root by flashing kernels
Hope it is useful for u
If your BL is unlocked
you must lock it again.:fingers-crossed:

[Guide] Easy Way To Root Xperia S 6.1.a.2.55

ONLY FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS... Hi Guys... Here's a simple new method to root the new Xperia S LT26i Firmware [6.1.a.2.55] inspired actually by an easy way to root SGS II... and i don't know why nobody has mentioned it yet...
all the credit of course goes to its respective owners...
First of all you'll need the Following...
1- {Recovery} FreeXperia - Xperia S from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596285&highlight=mirror
2- SuperSU Update zip from here http://download.chainfire.eu/310/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip
Now all you need to do is...
1- copy the Supersu zip to your device
2- flash the recovery via fastboot and apply the zip
3- flash back the kernel.sin extracted from the Rom's .ftf you want to root... and it's all done your Rom is ROOTED...
Good luck...

YEp. Looks like there was an issue with the step that tells you to flash the .423 kernel ftf.
Try re-downloading that ftf file and flashing it again (then set USB debugging & Unknown sources to ON) and run the DoomLoRD Rooting Kit v18 again.
I had the same error and ends up I flashed the other kernel ftf file by accident.

[Q] root 4.3 on xperia m

plzz help me out..i have unlocked my bootloader.
nd trying different methods but not succesfull..
m on latest stock firmware....
thnkx in advance
Which methods did you try?
The method that worked well for me (does not require Unlocked Bootloader) is the following:
- flash 4.1.2 using FlashTool
- Root it: Install Framaroot, select SuperSU and Gandalf exploit
- Install BusyBox
- flash 4.3 using FlashTool, but exclude System or your 4.3 won't be rooted.

Find the appropriate .ftf files for your device. You will be looking for a 4.1.2 ftf and a 4.3 ftf, just google them.
This is the Guide I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709911
