Great ! this method safe to flash CWM 6.0.4.5 ?

this is a port of Tenfar's Defy Recovery for FlipOut. as the hijacks do not work on this model, there is used a different solution to load recovery.
it does not support mount/unmount. but all other function for backup/restore of system & data works (tested).
you can share usb storage to pc, or install unsigned update.zip files.
Credits for the apk goes to Tenfar, modifications to work on flipout with hack to boot is made by me.
It should work on all 2.1 based releses, as long as the phone is rooted.
controls in recovery are: VOL- & VOL+ for up/down and POWER to select.
There is an addon option to run adb at bootup (root based), if you put a empty file named: "adb_bootup" on root of sdcard.
Enjoy! (now lets see some mods!)
Installation instructions:
1. root it (SuperOneClick )
2. Install FlipOutRecovery.apk
3. reboot phone once
4. now enter app and press "Install recovery"
5. next you can chose to reboot recovery , normal reboot or shutdown.

my source is in the apk you got i did not have it, i use smali coding here when needed.
I see two problems and it's killing me now...
a. Format SYSTEM doesn't work unless you connect the device and say 'adb remount'
b. after you format the SYSTEM, restoring a Nandroid image will surely tell you "MD5 mismatch", it seems that the nandroid script is trying to use a tool from the /system
Darn it's killing me........

BTW, besides the official ROMs, are there anything else to run on the MB511?
entering at boot
is there any way to enter the recovery at boot, rather than from the app.
say as there is with the stock recovery (x and power then release power button)

Not likely. Unless we 'flash' the recovery image to the phone's ROM. (AFAIK, that's not possible. )
so if that's not possible... then how would I effectively use the backup tool, I mean I would only need it if the phone wasn't working properly

backup purposes for now.. you would backup and be able to recover..
or if someone made a mod of a rom of course..
you do not need to format anything to install and restore backups, only those experimenting will fail in their mission to mess up i think...
Again, many thanks on behalf of my wife.
Thanks dex
Thanks

no, you get a full backup of filesystems on your mobile, into a Nandroid/openrecovery/[serialnumber/date] folder which you can restore again the same way..
sbf is motorola only.
okay thank you!
i tried it in this way:
app: install recovery system -> recovery boot
boot menue: restore/backup -> backup
after a time of waiting my phone restarts.
but i dont have a "nandroid" folder on my sd card..
only a "goapkrev/backup/..."
with files cache.img, data.img, nadroid.md5, system.img
did i anything wrong?
how do i get a sbf file normaly?

this is correct. i was wrong... the ClockWorkMod used here uses a different folder name, but the purpose is the same.
now you should be able to make a full restore of data filesystem, which is primary i think.. /system is more or less not changed for anyone since we all use sbf's installed, but data is important to backup.

Are you sure you did not have to downgrade your phone to a previous HTC release. You should start with a HTC rom version previous to the OTA 1.72 release from december 2010.

Dude let me try and help you.
1) download a known good rom like one thats close to stock
2) go into cwm > mounts and storage > mount sdcard usb > and copy the *.zip to the root of your sdcard
3) unmount by going back to main cwm menu
4) now wipe data/factory reset
5) now wipe cache
6) go into mounts and storage and do format system, then go back to main menu
7) now go to advanced and clear dalvik cache, then go back to main menu
8) now install zip from sdcard and choose the downloaded *.zip which you placed into the root of your sdcard and start flashing.
9) after flash finished, reboot your device and wait for at least 10 minutes
This way I fixed my gf's desire z

You didnt mess up all the way until your phone doesnt turn on at all. Dont give up you are just a few steps from a fixed phone. I would take a moment to make sure you have adb setup on your pc correctly. Maybe even try connecting someone elses g2 if you can. Phones are a lot easier to fix after you spend a littlle time with adb.

you are rooted.... forget everything you know about installing recoveries and follow this instruction here:
download the clockworkmod, or any recovery you want... download it straight from it's source site, so like clockworkmod.com, wherever... you are looking for the .img file of the recovery, not the .tar....
let's assume it is named "cwm.img" ... with me so far? put that file on your sdcard of your device, not the external sd card.... and put don't put it in any folders or anything, just download it, put it on your sd card... ready? here comes the easy part
download this app... https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDMsImphY2twYWwuYW5kcm9pZHRlcm0iXQ..
open the app, and type these commands for successssss (after each 1 of these command lines, you must hit enter)
su (it will ask for root permission, grant it, your "$" icon will change to "#")
dd if=/sdcard/cwm.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery (you should see an output)
reboot recovery
you are now in your new recovery.
This is way too complicated. Try this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999922

On the sticky thread there is a link for cwm thread, however I'm not quite sure which filesystem to choose, I'm going to install through recovery, seems safer for me. I want to install cwm for 2 purposes, first I'm planning to backup my stock rom so that I can always flash it back if I need my warranty and second I'm planning to flash cm9 to my phone. I'm not quite sure what is the diffrence between rfs and ext4 is Currently I'm on 2.2.1 stock rom.
Actually I found the proper version of CWM to install here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
But I can't apply it, when I enter recovery mode the options I have are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe chace parition
Pheraps I should rename the zip file I downloaded to update.zip? I can't select any other zip from the sd card and if I press "apply sdcard:update.zip" it searches for update.zip and fails to find it.

Download mode, remove battery, insert battery, press power, home, volume down, at the same time.

did you wipe & flash the kernel via fastboot if not do it and you are done
If you did wipe & flashed the boot.img try reflashing by using the following steps
1) Boot your device in recovery mode. You should now see the recovery menu
2) Use the volume up/down keys to select "apply update from ADB," then press power to select it
3) open the folder where your boot.img and adb are storred, then press SHIFT button and the right-click mouse button and choose “Open command prompt here”
typ adb sideload <filename>.zip (for example: adb sideload update.zip)
The zip package will begin installing. When it's done, select "reboot system now."
