I know that on market seem like only Samsung phone support the native 3G video calling for GB, ICS or JB stock rom.
But when come to customize rom like CM9/CM10 the 3G video calling feature is missing.
Always wonder why CM9/CM10 ICS based rom doesn't support 3G video calling.
Izit because copyrighted (or somesort of patented by Samsung) so couldn't include it into CM9/CM10 rom?
Is there possible to intergrate 3G video calling code from other rom (e.g. s3 ics/jb rom which support 3G video call) to our SGW ICS/JB rom?
That would be wonderful for our Galaxy Wonder.
I often use line or skype for video chatting, never use 3g because I think using internet videocall is fast enough and no lag for me
cheers
too bad, it's not about fast/no lag comparing in internet video calling or 3G video calling.
As in certain country internet plan still expensive for us to make internet video call compare to 3G video calling.
Plus not all of my friends have internet plan/smartphone for video calling, but mostly have at least nokia 5800 kinda phone for 3G video call, that's why.

I agree with you Andrew, like in my field of work we always had 3G test video call every time there is a network upgrade/modification.

I forgot where I read about it, but here's a reason why ROMs based on AOSP (including CM and AOKP) has no video call: Because the codec used to compress the video in a 3G video call is heavily patented, and the patentholders demand royalty payment for each and every device using that codec.
Samsung, Nokia, etc., they all are phone sellers. They make money for every phone sold, so they can 'absorb' the patent-licensing fee. CM, AOKP, and others, they work for free, they just can't pay the licensing fee.
Until the patents covering 3G video call expire, don't expect to see 3G video anytime soon.

well have my 3g video calling back. I am now on Neat Rom with Siyah kernel. enjoying the stock ROM with a little mod just enough to suite my needs

Hi,
Is there an App that does video calling from phone to PC using the front facing camera on GT-I9000b?
I've searched quite a bit for it, but so far it seems that only tango uses the front facing cam.
Thanks!

Hello carlosrjbr,
I'm not sure, but you might take a look at Fring. Heard some rumors you could videochat when you are signed into WLM.
And on other forums I saw that it might not be available yet, as it isn't available for other platforms also (iOS, iPhone 3/4).
Hope you find this information usefull.
Sincerely yours,

Try ooVoo that might work
Yeah, I tried ooVoo... unfortunately it doesnt support the front cam in the i9000b...
I guess I'm out of luck then, I'll try to contact ooVoo support to see if they can resolve the camera issue.
Thanks for the replies!

Hy
Im using Fring for quite a bit and works like a charm with front camera. Works on wifi and hsdpa/hsupa networks. Phone to phone and phone to pc.
DroidcamX works like a charm.
Fring has a camera issue with only the international versions of the Galaxy S. Btw, how do you do fring to pc?
I'll test the one mentioned above... Thanks guys

yeah i been tring a few vid apps and tango seem the best. I was able to chat with my aunt in alberta on her iphone using my SGS from ontario. I dont like fring because you have to register and its a pain.
I wish it was just as easy as apples facetime and not resort to 3rd party apps or if we can get skype video calls.
Dumb question can you make video calls from android to android devices without 3rd party apps? Like SGS to SGS or SGS to Desire etc

If your carrier supports it you can do a video call to any phone with video calling support including Nokias dating back several years.
Just choose "video call" instead of call when you select a contact or use the video call icon in the dialler.
well when ever i try that it says video call failed. Well this is calling to an iphone 4 so its not a prefect test.
Iphone 4 doesn't support videocall :/
then explain why i was chatting with my aunts iphone 4 using tango yesterday
The iPhone 4 only supports video calling through use of wi-fi or 3G (in some cases). The actual old school network video call is not supported by the iphone.
So you can use tango, skype or facetime (with another iphone), but you can't use the video call from the dialer when using it with an iphone.

Hi, my girlfriend use an iphone 4 and well obviously I use SGS2.
is there a video call app other than skype? we've tried fring and qik, but really bad video quality.
so is there an app that will work for android + iphone 4?
i've tried the modded skype by pulser and the other dev(sorry i forgot), it has the video call feature but when use the video option, my gf accept the call but skype made it voice call, hence fail to video call~~
skype from phone should be able to make calls to desktop pc and iphone 4's skype right?
Try Tango...

To be honest, the video calling feature on android sucks. On iphone face time calling is clear and reliable, were as on android you have to resort to 3rd party apps, which pretty much suck. So you can't expect cross platform calling to work properly when android to android pretty much sucks. Av tried nearly all the available video calling apps, and none impressed me in comparison to face time calling.

What about ooVoo? You can call mobile-mobile and pc-mobile with ooVoo. Take a look at their homepage, which is their name between www and com
Whatever works best for you!

well it says in their site coming soon for SGS2? found in browser's market but incompatible with device.
looks promising though.
I've used Skype from my phone to my friend's iPhone and the video quality was brilliant. Just make sure you're on WiFi. Don't forget, this is a requirement for facetime on iPhone, so that's the only way to compare quality.

thanks for the link but i have them already.
speaking of skype, i have problems video calling to iphone 4. calling to desktop computer has no problem though. when i called ip4, it connects to video for moment(but just black with the video buttons) then immediately changed to voice call and it will be changing forth or so until i end it. any clue?
Just tested with v5 and iPhone4 and iPod4 sgs2. One autoswitch to audio only in 20 test calls on wifi. Also limiting resolution in advanced options might help. I left it on auto.
One note. If your GF on iPhone has app off in suspend and not in app then after she accepts call she has to enable video manually by selecting camera icon and choosing which camera she wants to use.

Perfectly smooth video on Tango for me too.
Tested and works on:
SGS <-> SGS

Does anyone know of a kernel or ROM that supports 2WCR on the S3 for ATT?
Search android development section for a ROM that states "call recording" in the OP.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium HD app
Stock AT&T Samsung Galaxy S rom
A rooted stock rom with skvalex's call recorder (the best one IMHO) works perfectly for the d2att. I have been unsuccessful in getting any other ROM that supports 2wcr to work on my att sgs3 or I just don't like the rom as much as CM10. I ran a kernel that supported it on my old Inspire with cm7. Can't wait it for a solution for cm10
Google AT&T Samsung Galaxy s3 2 way call recording rom. They're out there
SGS3 call recording working
Skvalex's call recorder is working on my (d2att) at&t galaxy s3 running cm10.1 nightly 1-11-2013 using standard api voice call uplink+down link. My default is do not recall incoming & outgoing with in call control AMR format. I haven't tested blue tooth yet. We'll I did and the call started recording fine then it was reported I could not be heard anymore after call started fine but it did continue to record both sides. Will test further.
Anyone know about licensing native video calling (3G) on samsung stock rom,,,,
I've read about the license, only certain producers who have, for example, the manufacturer of the sony does not have a license but samsung and nokia have it.
what anyone tries to inject the license into costume rom CM / MIUI / AOKP / AOSP and others....
I dunno about licensing, but I was wondering how does the 3G video call work. I mean, isn't there some configuration that it needs to get working ?
additional ....
I see supercopy Samsung devices, and there has 3G video calling, we know device is not made on samsung original .
how can these devices have 3g video calling?
Greetings,i have read thad video calls cant add it on any custom rom cauze its about samsung stuff and not android,ok..
my question is there is no way to add it on custom rom?
I know that we can use video calls via wifi (skype etc)
but personally i use video calls without internet very usally!
I think that video call without internet its so usefull
So if y could give a try all developers to create video calls
on custom roms? i will be appreciate guyz!
