I am confused. in past several months I tried bunch of ROM's and every sigle of them had gmail sending mail issues. Why google? They are same people who made android, and that is why I am expecting their app's to be smooth and better from others. Sometimes after seeing red "sending..." message mail stays for hours in outbox, no metter how many times you sync, refresh or even restart your phone (this happens mostly when replying but not limited to). Am I only one with this problem and why gmail (app) sucks so much?

Gmail version 2.3.4.1 gave me problems with Sense-based roms initially and I ended up reverting back to version 2.3.2, however, I didn't recall having that problem with the stock odexed 3.70 rom. Furthermore, I have no problems with version 2.3.4.1 using an AOSP rom, specifically Salvage-Mod 1.2.1. If you have the time, nandroid backup your current setup, download and flash the rooted stock 3.70 rom from the link below and then test your gmail performance.

This same thing happened to me. Someone on here made the suggestion of going into my application settings and clearing the data, and since then it has worked flawlessly.
Clearing the data worked for me on my EVO.....thanks all
All of my Google Talk contacts are showing offline. When I tap a contact to start a conversation, it says "XXX is offline. Messages you send will be delivered when XXX comes online." However, it is not grayed out like when someone is actually offline. Once I send a message to that person, the "XXX is offline..." message goes away. And they respond like normal. However, in the contact listing it still says everyone is offline.
I've tried clearing the data associated with Gtalk. And even did a factory reset. I am on unrooted stock 2.3.3
Any suggestions?
Are you on a wireless network? Corporate or otherwise locked down? I see the same thing on my locked down network here at the office. I haven't bothered to figure out what exactly is going on though.
Nope. I'm either on wifi at home or 3G. It happens on both

Hi,
Yesterday the weirdest thing happened on my JB GNex for the first time.
My hotmail contacts and calendar entries have disappeared. Email is fine and using the stock email client with stock OS and unrooted International GSM version phone.
Anyone else experienced this & managed to find a fix?
PS. Temporarily managed to fix by going to settings/apps and clearing the data but next morning all disappear again...

well my girl friend had the same problem on her Galaxy nexus,
and every time i had to remove the Hotmail account and then add it again for the contacts to appear.
but it kept happening to her phone and it never happened to mine.
but after 2 months of this SH*T i decided to add her account to my phone so i'll have her contacts if they disappear and there is something urgent.
so i did add her Hotmail, and after 12hours this SH*T started happening to me too, even when i totally removed her account and mine.
it happens twice everyday.
the only thing i wanna do now is not just restore the phone to default settings, but totally flash a new firmware and clear all cache and try again but i have a lot on my phone to backup.
Wow that's pretty crap - temporarily, I cleared the cache/data under settings/apps which forces the contacts to reappear then did a local export and now I'm importing them at least once or twice a day...its the lamest work around ever if your workaround does work can you let me know pls?

Me Three
I'm (not) glad to see others are having this problem too.
I may be in the wrong thread running a Galaxy S2, but this recently started happening to me. I thought it was a combination of new ROM/Kernel (recently switched to Siyah 3.3.d) but have had this same problem with CyanogenMod 9 on both the Kernel they ship as well as Siyah. With Siyah running with Dual Boot and just a single ROM.
Clearing App data for Calendar, Calendar Storage, Contacts, Contacts Storage sometimes helps, but this is getting really annoying.
Does anyone know what the root cause is? I've considered going back to Stock Carrier ROM just to see if this keeps up. I've gone back to backups from weeks ago (when I don't think this was happening) and it now happens. Don't know what else to try.
Hey,
i totally restored to 4.1.1 locked back the phone just in case, and it still happened.
then i unlocked, restored to 4.0.4, no rooting, and it still happen.
i think my hotmail account got "infected" when i added my girlfriend's account.
anyone please help.
anyone has this problem with google mail ?

I've been having this issue too - from searching for answers it appears to be a bug with hotmail.
Some people have reported having success with changing the server to debug-m.hotmail.com, or xxx-m.hotmail.com (where xxx is the three letter server code assigned to your hotmail account). Neither of these solutions has worked for me.
I'd love to know what else people have tried.
I habe exactly the same Problem. Habe also tried setting up a different Server. Anyone Wirth a fix?

OMG.
Thank you guys SOOO much for putting this up. I thought it was just me!!!! I was about to post a thread of my own on this!
Yes, I've been having this issue all of last week. I thought it was my phone and or ROM configs. I can confirm that it's happening on all ICS ROMs. I tried 10 different ROMs, all 100% clean installs. As a matter of fact, I just finished loading Paranoid Android ROM, which is a JB ROM, in hopes that it resolves it.
My Hotmail account is set up as an Exchange account. Randomly, out of nowhere, all contacts, calendars, and emails are cleared, and it has to redownload itself. This is potentially disastrous as I depend very heavily on my Hotmail calendar.
Does anyone have any idea what's happening and what we can do to solve it?

After much research, it seems that this is a huge problem with Hotmail that started occurring mid May. I still haven't seen a concrete response from Microsoft regarding this issue.
Last night I deleted the email account under the stock email app and downloaded the free hotmail app from the app store...so far the contacts are intact ...if they disappear again I will update my post.

OK they disappeared again, apparently the Google settings have nothing to do with this, its definitely Hotmail.
So i temporarily imported my contacts and switched to gmail it was easy because i already use Google calendar i only use Hotmail for email and contacts.
I already tried switching the m.hotmail.com server but i read that some hotmail users where switched to new servers, so maybe this is the problem.

I have seen this happening on my wive's, brother's and my Galaxy Nexus.
All of us have updated to JB.
I have solved this issue with exporting my Live-contacts and importing them to my Google Account.
I will use my Galaxy S3 from now on and my wife wife asked for a new phone, she's more impatient but will get the S3 now anyway.
I think Google does not like Microsoft anymore due to latest lawsuit results.
Anywho I blame Jellbean. :crying:

I can confirm that this is a problem on all ICS/JB ROMs and is therefor not related to a ROM.
now suddenly even my calender items disappeared as well - this is getting really annoying now - will export/import them to google again until MS has sorted this out. anyone reported this already in a MS forum or blog? if not maybe we should do that.
I'm having the same issue here. I was having the issue with the stock ICS ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I rooted and flashed the BB Jelly Bean ROM but the problem is still happening. When I delete the account and add it back it syncs. But then the next day the contacts disappear. When I create the account I put in m.hotmail.com. But the next day when I look it says col-m.hotmail.com. I don't think this is the issue, but I also saw comments to try changing to this. It seems to be happening automatically.
Anyway, I noticed that when I go into Hotmail and edit a contact and save it, it syncs. I don't know how long that contact will stay on my phone. So it seems to me that it could be related to identifiying which contacts to synch. I tried changing the synch frequency but that didn't work either.
Does anyone know which Microsoft Hotmail forum we should post this?
- I installed the Hotmail Microsoft + 7 app. I now have my contacts again. I'm not sure if this will work long term. I tried using the app and it crashed, so I plan on continue to use the built in Android mail app. But hopefully the Microsoft app will allow me to synch my contacts. If this doesn't work, I think I'll import them into Google to have as a backup copy.

I've had the app since last night and for me all contacts and calendar entries have stayed put and not disappeared once. I will stick with the app for a while but would like to go back to stock app if/when fixed.

I posted my issue on answers.Microsoft forum. The only response I got was to install the Microsoft App. I also would like the stock android app to get fixed, but I'm not sure if the issue is with Android or Microsoft.
I'm not able to provide a link:

Same problem on stock 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
I've got the same problem too on the official stock 4.1.1 Jellybean update. My contacts and calendar go completely missing and removing/adding the account only makes it work for a day or so and then it disappears again. Email still syncs fine.
As someone reported in this thread Hotmail is still working fine with their iPhone, and it is working fine with my Windows Phone... I'm pretty sure this is Google's fault. It makes my phone near useless, that's for sure.
This better get fixed soon! If someone finds or hears about a fix, post it here and let everyone know!
Hello everyone!
I've had my GN since April, and I'm loving it. Since the beginning I've had whatsapp installed on it, and used it extensively. It worked great, even on JB 4.1.1. I unlocked the bootloader sometime around the end of June, the beginning of July. Anyway, about a month ago, I wanted to try some custom roms. Tried AOKP build 1, and CM10, both of which caused issues with Whatsapp. I wouldn't get the notifications instantly. Instead, I'd get them in anything from half an hour to 2 hours later.
So I switched back to stock using the Nandroid backup I had done before flashing the roms. However, ever since then, I've been having issues with Whatsapp and other apps, Gmail, Facebook messenger, Facebook itself, issues I didn't have before. With whatsapp for instance, if I'm on 3g, the issue is still there, notifications are still delayed. On wifi is even worst, I don't even get them unless I open the app itself.
Gmail is delayed as well, not as much, and I certainly don't need to open the app to get the mail, while facebook messenger and facebook usually send me notifications I had already looked at on my laptop, and they send them the next morning.
You can see how this is annoying. One morning I read somewhere something like having installed a custom rom and using a nandroid restore to get back to stock causes issues with Whatsapp, no mention of other apps though. Could this possibly be the cause?
If not, anyone got any idea what might be, and how to fix it? I'm even willing to flash stock, and relock the bootloader, if it helps.
Did you try clean installing WhatsApp instead of recovering from a backup?

I did, three times, same problem. And it's not just whatsapp, facebook and facebook messenger are doing the same thing. Gapps work well, talk and G+ are instant.
I'm gonna say its the app.. since other apps work fine.. and facebbok just sux..

Do you mean clear the cache, or actually clean the data?
Edit: No, that didn't help. I tried flashing stock, let's see what that gets me
Greetngs. Manually loaded the zip the other day for 4.1.2 on my completely stock Sprint GS3. Other than the normal "holy crap" battery consumption for the first couple of cycles and the fact that I could cook a grilled cheese sandwich on it, everything's been OK except for these two problems:
1. This was the easy one. AVG AntiVirus Pro didn't like something on the update and it was stuck WFO and draining the battery in about an hour. Interestingly simply looking for running apps in the stock applications area didn't show anything. System Panel did. I deleted the AVG, reloaded it and all is well.
2. This one's not resolved. I've Googled as well as searched XDA and can't find an answer. Short version is that regardless of what my mail settings say, it's not going out for a sync to my Gmail accounts, nor AOL (I know....) and my Exchange account isn't getting "pushes" either. I've gone through the global mail settings as well as those for each account. All set to push if possible or 15 min if not. Everything is "prime" so it's not some goofy issue with being outside of prime or roaming. Roaming has all the same settings.
I can manually hit a refresh and it works fine, but it's obviously not supposed to work that way (at least it never has).
Any thoughts? Oh...and I've done a battery pull...haven't done a hard reset but I doubt that's an answer for this.
Thanks for your help.
bj
Aha! It seems as though the update turned off the "global" sync (on the scrolling drop down tool bar at the top of the screen). That said, it also defaulted all my sync options to "disabled".
Better now!
