I am confused. in past several months I tried bunch of ROM's and every sigle of them had gmail sending mail issues. Why google? They are same people who made android, and that is why I am expecting their app's to be smooth and better from others. Sometimes after seeing red "sending..." message mail stays for hours in outbox, no metter how many times you sync, refresh or even restart your phone (this happens mostly when replying but not limited to). Am I only one with this problem and why gmail (app) sucks so much?

Gmail version 2.3.4.1 gave me problems with Sense-based roms initially and I ended up reverting back to version 2.3.2, however, I didn't recall having that problem with the stock odexed 3.70 rom. Furthermore, I have no problems with version 2.3.4.1 using an AOSP rom, specifically Salvage-Mod 1.2.1. If you have the time, nandroid backup your current setup, download and flash the rooted stock 3.70 rom from the link below and then test your gmail performance.

This same thing happened to me. Someone on here made the suggestion of going into my application settings and clearing the data, and since then it has worked flawlessly.
Clearing the data worked for me on my EVO.....thanks all

I had a bit of a debacle with the DI18 Gmail app yesterday. I received a really important email and replied to it promptly through the Gmail app, hit send and then took a nap. Two hours later, I wake up and see that my reply was STILL SENDING.
Even worse, I checked my Gmail on a computer and it said the email I replied to WASN'T EVEN READ.
So I flashed the ACS-modified DK28 and it seems to be working better, but now it seems the most important calls I make are MUTED on the other end, and they still connect.
So I'm left with a dilemma: is there a good working email app (Gmail or non-Gmail) out there that just WORKS??? (I've tried K-9 Mail but I didn't really like it) Or should I stay with the working DK28 version and have randomly muted calls?

Honestly there are not many alternatives. You already tried K9. I am not having any issues with calls or gmail. Not sure what is going wrong on your end. Did you wipe everything before flashing?

Yes, I did a complete wipe.
I remember I always had a problem with sync in stock DI18 for some reason, like when I first got the phone. (Actually, on stock DI18, there wasn't even an option to sync my Google Calendar on an account that had one.) That's why I started working with roms and rooting and etc.

No, I'm just using Google accounts. Sometimes they work, sometimes not.
MailDroid is a good option.
I was having the same issue. Make sure auto-sync is checked in Setting->Accounts and Sync. If that doesn't in the Gmail app you can go to your outbox and manually force the email to be sent.
I like the galaxy tab one

Yes, Maildroid is good but it has an ads.
SEVEN is a push type email app that I've been using since my 755p days, back when it was packaged with my Treo, it was called Sprint Email...but it was created by SEVEN. It's not downloadable from the Market, you have to goto SEVEN's website, click on their beta program and then jump through random hoops until you can download it. I had it on my Moment and now me Epic and I love it. I run 6 different email accounts, from Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and AOHell and they all work perfectly, show images (from Harbor Freight ads for example) and even shows unique icons on the taskbar for each email account. Just make sure to set it up correctly, otherwise it'll do things like not check email during certain hours or on the weekends (a feature I'd never use) or below certain battery percentages. No ads and a great app, and it even comes w/ a beta IM app.
I searched in this forum already, but couldn't find this.
I'm having issues with sending emails with the gmail application. They just sit in the Outbox with a sending status. I've checked the sync settings, refreshed both from the sync section, as well as in the app. I even tried just text, as well as using attachments. And, no, they're not being received either.
I'm currently running the leaked OTA and the new radio.

Uninstalling fixed the issue. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I had done the same thing earlier, so restoring it from Titanium Backup may have been the issue...

That makes sense. I use titanium as well but don't backup up any of the google apps cuz they come preinstalled in roms. Pleasure to help ya bud.
My fiancee's Dinc quit syncing overnight. I've had her running Optimized Shift for almost a week now with no issues. Then this morning she work up and her gmail wasn't syncing? I thought it was a rom issue, but I will try reinstalling gmail and see if that helps.
Also, her phone doesn't seem to save text messages as drafts on this rom, as it did with the stock rom. Was this left out of this rom or am I missing where they are stored?
Let us know how uninstall/reinstall works.
I haven't used stock messaging app in months but I believe drafts are saved under Menu>Drafts in all versions from Sense 1.0-3.0. I'm on a Sense 3.0 rom with 3.0 messaging app but I think it's the same in your rom. I know mine used to have trouble saving drafts with no Sender but I know it worked fine if I had a contact in the Send box prior to saving the draft.

Are you saying Menu > Drafts, from within the stock messaging app? If so, that's where I thought it should be...but it's not, for some reason. These are drafts already addressed to a sender, in an ongoing thread. I know with the stock rom, she could do Menu > Drafts, no problem, but the options appears to be gone now. I believe optimized shift is Sense 3.0, but still, I can't imagine they would take that option out.
I replied to an email using gmail app and now its stuck on "sending".
I tried a reboot but no luck. Any suggestions?

Remove the account and add it back?
Clear cache and data for Gmail app. I've had this happen a few times.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I've had this happen before as well, and sometimes I think it might be something on Google server side, like it can take longer than usual for them to send an acknowledgement of reception? Idk.

Force Close the app and reopening it also does the trick if you do not feel like clearing cache and the like. It will work for a few and be fine then go right back to doing it.
Yeah, I've gotten this on pretty much every Android device I've owned. Pretty common problem and I wish Google would fix it. I just force close, clear cache..then resend.
will this happen with the other email app that came with this phone?
And how do you clear the emails cache?

settings/apps/find Gmail click on it and you can clear cache from there
I've had this happen a couple times before too. The first time, I didn't even know about it until my sister mentioned she never got a reply for so and so email even though I clearly remembered replying to it a week before that. So I went into the app and looked at my outbox and there was about 7 or 8 emails stuck in there that couldn't be set.
Made me a bit mad to say the least. And a year later, we are still having this issue.

I only ever had that problem with stuck outbox when I had a battery saver program "juice defender" running. Works perfectly ever since I stopped using and uninstalled the battery saver app. I read in another thread that those apps do more harm than good.
+1 to clear cache and data
I have had this happen, in over a thousand or so sent emails, four times, it was the same day, and only on 3g trying to send photos as attachments for work.
This has never happened when on wifi. I want to clarify that I use both gmail and the samsung included email app (I like it better for multiple gmail account usage for a few reasons I wont go into here). The samsung app, though it takes longer to load emails (even on wifi) I just like the feel of it better. Gmail sending is usually instantaneous, both apps have been super stable for me, I have adjusted their settings to run to my ideals, which includes hourly pings.

Hey, can someone shed some light as to why Clear Cache button is greyed out in the Gmail application? All I have is Force close and Uninstall updates. Everything else is unavailable.
Thanks in advance.
I have had this problem recenlty, I had to remove my account from the phone and add it again. It even stopped downloading new emails....smh
I think it's google though not the phones
I've been using the FC24 and also I've tried the FC22 ICS builds. Overall they're pretty good besides the aforementioned notification issues, some general lagginess around the UI and VPN not connecting (for me). GPS has been great.
The one thing that has been a show stopper for me is the Contacts App being very unresponsive. If you click on it, it'll go to the first page and nothing will load. I'm also having problems with my Groups appearing. If I can't get these to load, then I can't contact people very quickly.
Are others seeing this? Any tips?
I have tried TWlauncher and the regular Launcher (no difference). I've tried FC22 and FC24 (currently on FC24) and no difference. I've synced, then unsynced my LinkedIN and Facebook contacts (that seem to minorly help).
I'm probably going back to the EL29 and just flash the FC24 modem, although I like the ICS features if they all worked.
(sorry for the new thread, but the FC thread is too long for people to use anymore [plus its largely off topic now] and searching got me no where)
So for me on the goodness 3.1 with the AOSP contact app I get FC's all the time for acore. I am just going to put up with it till the final release since I have this rom all fixed up to my liking. But with your issue and what I'm seeing it rally seems like something deeper then the contact app, maybe the contact storage is the issue.
That's disappointing. It seems to be able to load an individual contact just fine if you search or if you place a contact on your home screen through the widgets menu, but the groups are a no go for me. Even if you access the groups through an app like Handcent (which uses a hybrid of the normal groups and handcent's own display).
I had the same problem on early builds.

Was a solution ever found to this, I'm having a similar problem on an FD24 rom that I just flashed and have had it on every other rom I've tried for the last two weeks as well, basically my contacts aren't responding at all starting about 15 minutes after I flash the rom, freezes as soon as I open the contacts app and contact widgets are non-responsive as well...it's happening with using romtoolbox to restore apps and just doing a complete fresh install of all apps from the market
very frustrating and I'm kind like reddragon in that I have everything else set up exactly as I want it now, except this issue
My wife's contacts did the same on FD24 and continued when I upgraded to FD26 without wiping data. To fix it I just backed up everything with Titanium and used sfhub's One Click odin FD26 that wipes data. Now, contacts works fine and I restored her apps no problem.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yes. It's a Festivus miracle! FD26 (and FD24) fixed this.
If it happens again, you can clear the contacts storage in the Applications menu. Then let everything resync.
FD26 is something special. I have yet to find a bug (that affects me).

Google plus trust?
My S3 is the latest stock rooted with Root66. Everything was working great today. I was able to send texts without issue. Just in the past hour, all my texts hang at sending. When I restarted the phone, it will send. I downloaded Handcent from the Play Store and it downloaded, but would not kick over to installing. After I restarted the phone, installation finished. I have not installed any new apps. This happens with both the stock messaging app and Handcent. I am looking at a text now that has been sending for the past 9 minutes. I have checked the settings, pulled the battery, and pulled the SIM and nothing has worked. Also tried deleting all the threads. Anyone else having issues? This is on T-Mobile.
Think I might have found the issue. The Smooth Calendar app automatically updated. I uninstalled it and everything seems to work better.
Youre right that is a problem.
Might I suggest flashing a new rom?
4.2 CMMod is good but with a few bugs.
Touchwiz roms..usually stable and a bit faster then the stock rom.
Maybe that will solve you're problem.
That or you might have been in an area where u had no signal lol
