The most simple solution will be to back app your apps, wipe data, cache, dalvick and system. Install a T989 ROM. In the dev section they have fully stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM. Flash superuser to get root if needed. Reinstall apps. (Be sure not reinstall any thing google releated) Your good!!

If you have a nandroid backup of your stock ROM just restore your nandroid. If you don't have a nandroid of your stock ROM search for stock ROM in the dev area and flash that one, and you will be back to stock root. I think we have a flashable stock ICS ROM, and an ODIN flashable as well.

App backup is easy with a helper app like titanium back up. Wiping of all sorts takes place in recovery (cwm or twrp)

Take the apk file from a stock ROM, then push it over using ADB. Should be found in the /system/app/ folder of the zip file of the stock ROMs.

I hate to come off sounding rude but everything you need to do any of what you are asking is located in the first sticky in the General section. Where it says [[ INDEX ] .☆.☆.☆. SEARCH HERE 1st .☆.☆.☆. most wanted topics, FAQ]] and |REF| Your One-Stop-Shop for rooting, roms, kernels, tools and themes!|UPDATED!| 8|12 If you would simply read and research instead of asking people to step by step it for you, you will find that you are actually probably resourceful enough to figure out the basics on your own. My advice would be to reflash a stock ROM and re-root and try again with the version of Google now that works for our arm devices.. Good luck!

thanx

Dont kill the noob

I haven't rooted and rommed in a long time. I was wondering if you guys could help me. I'm not a complete noob, I have some tech know how and I'm extremely good at following direction. What I need help with:
My phone is completely stock at the moment and I want to install a rom, maybe beastmod or one of the other ones. Which root method do I use if I want to install a rom?
correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume I use this method outlined here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103 to install cwm.
After I'm finished with that, I'm ready to install a rom, correct?
Also just in case, is there a method to recover from soft bricks, and go back to complete stock for warranty purposes?
thank you for the help, I appreciate it.

Yes, you can follow that, or if you want, I just flashed CWM in ODIN, then I flashed the Superuser update (instead of flashing the already rooted ROM).
Don't forget to Nandroid! That can help for soft bricks, so long as you can get back into Recovery.
From there you can flash any ROM you want, just make sure that you follow the instructions in the ROM's OP (wiping caches, etc)
Afterwards, if you do get soft bricks, here is the stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830
and the stock kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311229
If you ever need to unroot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323878
I think I may be missing something, but I can't remember what it is.
Hope this helps!
That tutorial should work.
After you have cwm installed, you are good to go on a new rom install. Remember, only install roms for the Tmobile version GS2 , you will brick if you try a rom for the other GS2 models.
About soft bricks, just do the tutorial correctly and you won't need to recover a soft brick.

Wait, what happened to the 1 step unroot thread that simply required you download and install the zip file? I was planning on using that tonight.
I knew I should have downloaded the file yesterday...

yep .. thats what I was looking for .. gone it seems. I just unrooted mine I believe. I had a completely stock backup with the odex files and all .. all I did was flash the recovery image using odin after restoring the stock recovery and then a master reset.

Well wouldn't unrooting bring you back to stock status? Either way hope this helped.
If your using the stock zip make sure you flash stock kernel first and then stock rom or you'll be stuck with custom kernel logo if you had one installed.

eh not really .. I was using a "stock" but rooted rom. I was looking for the keyword of unroot... which is probably why I didnt see that one. Since there are stock ROMs that arent really stock like rooted and all.

Dumbest Question Ever!!

Hello all,
I have had a couple of smartphones and I've asked a couple of questions on xda about various things regarding those phones. I just recently upgraded my work phone to the ET4G and I love the phone but hate the battery life and hotspot restrictions. I have no clue how to flash roms but I'm not totally clueless, I can follow directions. Can someone tell me or point me in the right direction as to how I install a custom rom on my phone. I want to install Calk N Venums Stock Rom but I manually installed ICS 4.0.4 because Sprint took forever to roll out the update. Not sure if the process was similar to me going into bootloader and unziping the file, etc. Long story short, I need to know what I need to have preinstalled on the phone so that I don't brick it (Clockwork Recovery, etc.). The devs have done a great jump with these roms and I am very interested in trying some out given I know the proper steps. Thanks for any and all advice.

install rom without root

I can install a ROM without root??? eg Wicked rom? If just install the CWM by ODIN and then install the rom .. I do not want the root .. I Can????

You have to root unless you want to odin flash the samsung stock or stock rooted rom.
You cannot flash any custom roms like Wicked without root, they all come pre-rooted and you will need to flash the proper
recovery (CWM or TWRP) before you can flash the Wicked rom or other roms found here in these developer's threads.
My friend
Please make sure you open a thread in a right section. More than likely your thread will be ignored or people will shake their heads and some will tell you that you are in a wrong place (which you are).
To answer your question yes you can install new rom without root to current stock ROM.
CWM (TWRP) is just custom recovery.
When you install Superuser app via custom recovery is called root. And most custom ROMs are already rooted mean comes with superuser app installed.
Be careful. XDA is like your parent house, you will get what you want but not without getting scolded.

If you already installed CWM, you just download wicked ROM then go into CWM and install it.
If you haven't install CWM yet, you really need to read the sticky threads of this section to know how to do that.
Make sure you read and understand before you do it because if your device bricked it will only be your fault of not searching and reading. Good luck.

Valid points for sure. I think you can just remove the superuser app, but that will cause some issues with some built in apps probably. I've never gone about it that way.

It will. Wicked is built around things that require root. Maybe flash root66, put a good kernel on there, remove root access, and call it a day.
What I would do is just hide the superuser app and leave the regular myfiles app in, it has no support for root

Do you have a link for that ZIP? I'm running into a similar problem after flashing CM10.2 and can't flash a TW Rom on my S4.
Thanks!
10.2 sucks
the same thing happened to me, but i am using the stock firmware and using a tutorioal on how to unroot unbrick note 2 i hope that brings my phone to normal. and then refalsh and load jedi x 17. ALSO AT ONE POINT I DONT KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG BUT THE PLAY STORE WANTS INCLUDE IN THE 10.2 ROM THAT I INSTALL AND THE WEB PLAY STORE WOULD RECOGNIZE MY DEVICE AS NEXUS 7, BUT IT IS A NOTE 2. THAT WAS WEIRD.

First page look for restore sd-downgrade.

downgrade.zip will NOT do ANYTHING to help your issue; all it does it change the files system back to the way it is in 4.12
something else is wrong, but you have to post more info; what rom you flashed, what recovery/version you are on, what the error message/code is when you try to flash, etc...

Thanks even more for letting me know that this won't do the trick. I should start by reiterating that I have a S4 on Sprint and not a Note 2 on AT&T, so I before I get flamed for being in the wrong forum, just wanted to check if I should go further on what I'm running and the "error" I'm experiencing to see if you can help. I'd really appreciate it if you could but don't want to break any rules ...
its not so much about breaking the rules, as it is about giving you advice that could harm your device, since its not the same as this threads'
I would take it to the s4 threads, just to be sure
good luck
So still no luck with this for me. Someone please help. I can only flash non touchwiz ROMs. I am running pacman nightly 4.3 9-7-13 version. I just flashed devil kernel to see if it would fix the issue. No luck but definetly a nice kernel. I try to flash jedix17 16 and even a nandroid I had from 16 no luck. Tried several other tw ROMs but it just gets stuck on bootloop. Hellllllllllp I like pacman but I was flashing roms everyday and I'm going nuts. I brick my gs3 backup phone so I have to be very careful now with only one phone. Advice?????

Okay. ....do you show correct IMEI Number ?
And do you have data ?
If yes. ..then let's try this. ..(deep breath)..(make a backup)...then the following:
First. ...boot to recovery and wipe data, caches, and internal storage. ..
Basically everything without touching your external card. ..and just to be sure. .take it out and set it aside. .(make sure to unmount it in settings first !!!)
Next. .turn off the device and boot into download mode. ..(ready for Odin)
Then using only your PC...download Mr. Robinsons rooted UCAMA4 build from his thread. .. (in the development section)..
Next. ..push the image you just downloaded to the device via Odin. ..(use the PDA box...and don't change any Odin settings)...
Next. ..wait for the image to automatically boot the device once completed. ....(unplug the device)..
If the device fails to boot. ..pull the battery. ..wait 30 seconds. ..then replace it and boot into the newly flashed 3e recovery and wipe cache and data 2 times each. ..then reboot.....
If the device boots normally then move to the next step. ..and if not. ..repeat the flash process again using Odin and the rom you downloaded. ..
If after two unsuccessful flashes, and wipes using 3e recovery, and battery pulls. ..you still don't get a successful boot. ..you may have partition damage. ..in which case a repair may be needed. ..but for the sake of your phone we'll wait until the above has failed. ..
Next. ...If boot occurs using the above method. ..enter your wifi password and log into the play store and download triangle away if you want your counter reset. .
If not. ..skip the play store after entering the wifi password and move into your settings/about phone/software update. ..
Push the update button and wait for ATT to offer you the update to UCAMC3..then take it. ..
If desired you can then clear the flash counter and unroot...
Let's get that far before worrying about anything else. ..
Please record any errors or messages you get. ..especially while using Odin. ..as this tells us the device partition state. ..especially when PIT files are involved. .
Sorry for the long post. ..but it was necessary. ..I hope. .
Please post back. ...g
