So tomorrow my phone arrives! Yay! I read some things about how the nexus doesn't support mass storage. Is this true? Sorry if this topic has been made a thousand times already but I'm on my phone so I can't do a forms search.

It is my understanding that the GNex uses MTP which is another transfer protocol.
Essentially, instead of having activate mass storage mode, like with UMS (USB Mass Storage Mode) your GNex will already be in "mass storage mode" and anything you load on the phone should automatically propogate to the phone in real time.
Hope that helps,
Dan

It does a little. So can I copy files from my Mac to my nexus or not? I am confused.

You should be able to transfer from any computer (including your Mac) to/ from your Gnex.
Essentially, it uses a different protocol to communicate, but to you it should work about the same.

The Galaxy nexus doesn't support USB mass storage.
Android File Transfer is what google suggests that you use.I find it to be a bit buggy on OSx, but it may be fine on other platforms.
Alt Mounter mounts your sdcard similar to what USB Mass storage did on other devices.
They both have their quirks. If you are familiar with using adb through a terminal, that might be the most reliable method.

Android File Transfer app works just fine on OSX. Connect the phone and drag/drop to or from. No mounting or ejecting. Just use it.
The GNex can't do UMS because there's no separate SDcard or partition. Its all one solid storage. Its a much better implementation.
I am very comfortable with adb and osx makes it easy. What commands do I use. I'm guessing something like "adb mtp (file name)"

Uhh. You can just use ./adb push and ./adb pull if you want, but just use the Android File Transfer app. It works just fine.
OK. Cool

Hi guys.
HELP HELP HELP!
Sorry, I just have a pretty major issue. I had it with AOKP M6 and I thought it was a bug.
I was pretty excited to see USB mass storage built in to the rom. So plugged in a usb drive, all was well, showed up everywhere, could browse it etc. Sweet.
Next day, wanted to see how much room I have left on my phone. Go into settings > storage and it crashes. Settings stops. Rebooted. Happens again. I can no longer go into settings/storage. Deleted cache, data, fixed perms... nothing fixes it.
Please help if anyone knows about this. Maybe I didn't unmount but I'd hope there's a work around if you sometimes you forget to do so. I've tried almost everything. Clearing settings data etc. Nothing. It just wont go into thy part of the settings.
Thanks heaps guys.

You can't use USB Mass Storage on the Nexus. There's no partitions or SDcard to mount. The Settings app crashing and all of those issues are unrelated, and you're having a different problem there.
Yeah I know. But CM9 has it built in.

CM9 has the ability to use Mass Storage on phones that can use USB Mass Storage.
The Galaxy Nexus cannot use USB Mass Storage.

It doesn't magically give the phone partitions or an SDcard to mount.
I may of been misunderstood here.
What I mean is, with an OTG cable you can plug a USB stick into the phone and have use of it through certain apps. ES Explorer, MX player etc. Without the need for 'stickmount".
Well, I found the problem. With the help from another user. I was using Francos kernel as I find the CM one extremely slow and laggy. That's what was causing the issue.
Now it works. No problem. Just wish I could speed things up just a bit. Really laggy keyboard action.
Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks.

How can i enable usb mass storage instead of MTP? I am using PAC rom.
Don't think you can on this phone. USB mass storage unmounts the SD card and mounts it on computer side. Can't unmount the only storage medium on the phone. Mtp allows for both computer and phone to access the storage at the same time. But if I'm wrong someone please enlighten me

I'm not able to access the hidden folders of my lgoI. I cant nevigate the internal memory as a whole.
Are you talking about accessing the system folders?

You can't access the system folders via MTP. Only the partition mounted as the Storage/SDcard.
AFAIK, if you want to muck around the internals of the phone, you're going to need a root browser (or use a commandline tool like adb). For root browsers, I recommend the app called "Root Explorer", as well as "ROM Toolbox", but there are plenty out there.
Or adb

Adb if you want to move something from the phone to the computer, otherwise root browser is a bit easier, at least to me

Uhh what do you mean? Lol. Have to be a little more specific so we understand your issue you're facing. Because all you do Is hook up the usb to your PC. And whala. You might need to install drivers if yours is not properly working.

I think we need to wait for kernel with ums support, then the app above will work.

IF you have not as of yet, download the New Kies (that is only for the note 3) it has the proper USB 3.0 drivers. Also make sure you are using the 3.0 port on your lappy. If you are on an old lappy, it's blue and usually says USB/ESATA on newer lappies they are black so check your OEM guide for which one. USB 3.0+ Boost will have a lighting bold over the USB symbol
Go into developer option and unchecked usb debugging. Then reboot and plug phone in done
NOTE 3

I think the person who ask; he wants the USB Mass Storage support which can use in Car, or devices that support UMS.
I have a 2009 Honda, and it had support iPod, and USB Mass Storage, but Note 3 is NOT compatible with my car.

The option that comes up is usb 3 media option.
UMS for galaxy note 3 does not exist unless some kernel dev is going to enable it.
Please someone implement this ums feature in a kernel !

is there really no way to connect the Note 3 to a Mac as external drive?
hi,
just to be sure: I enabled "USB debugging" and rebooted, but still can`t access the phones memory from my Mac...
Using Airdroid and "Android file transfer" in the meantime, but it is awkward...
Any help? Is there an alternative to connect to a Mac?
Thank you in advance!
That's what author is taking about

I would love to see this too. I used that app on both S2's I had so I could play music through the USB port on my car stereo. It won't work with MTP
Using usb 3 mode, copying to the internal sd is super fast.
Hi there, I've recently found out samsung galaxy nexus usb protocol doesn't include any UMS option natively or using any roms/apps combination.
I was wondering tho, to make use of some of the space in the internal storage as a common flash drive, is it possible to create a FAT partition and mount it as an external sdcard? More or less like in phones where sd slot is present. Even tho the os wouldnt be able to recognize the new partition itself, I'd be glad to use some of the space as mass storage to connect the device to car radios and stuff like ps3.
Thanks for the attention
Federico

No it's not possible and won't ever be. If it was possible then you would have already found out how to do it.
