[REQUEST] testers for app - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well as the title say I need some testers. I'm developing an app which one for now works with, Galaxy Nexus Maguro, but I need some Toro and Toroplus testers. (Since my nexus is maguro and I can't try it) also if any of you have a SGS3 I will appreciate if you test it as well since it suppose to work with the SGS3.
What you need
Samsung Galaxy Nexus rooted and/or Samsung Galaxy S3 rooted.
What you need to do
Simple, just start the app (App Test) you will see a text that says: ----Notifications---- and under that text other text that says TEST Notification.
1. You need to see a toggle button at the right of the second text.
2. When you turn on the toggle you have to see a notification that says: Notification ONLINE
3. When you turn off the toggle the notification should be clear.
What if I don't see something about the 3 points above?
Post what you see, and tell me what the Toast message says. I will see and try to fix it.
PLEASE POST IF IT WORKS AND IF IT DOESN'T
App is attached.
Thanks

You might want to mention what the app does to give people an incentive to download it.

Well this one does nothing, just to know if it works. If you download it you will see that it does nothing. I don't think I need it since it just to know if a code works.
But this is one part of a app that I'm developing, which one have so far a few of root tools, but it will include a lot of root tools.

Dont think this thread should be in this development section....needs to be moved to some other section.

It works TOROPLUS.

Perfect, just what i wanted to read :good:

So basically, you are searching for people to test an app which needs root, access the internet but supposedly does nothing?
Don't count on me to fall in that kind of trap.

lol sorry forgot to eliminate that permission from the test manifest (its from the main app), but whatever you want to think. I'm searching for testers not to write my app since its not out yet.
EDIT: actually where do you get that from? I'm seeing my manifest now and it doesn't have that permission??

What is this app intended to do? I don't feel safe giving an app root access without knowing exactly what your intentions behind the app are.

wow is amazing how people trust so little in other person... the root access is to read if a file exist... then returns access to the toggle button to see the toast. So if the user don't know the phone info it can give it to me easy so I know in what device it works...

??? If I doesn't why am I posting it here?

As a developer you should already know that giving root access to an app, of which its purposes are unknown, can be dangerous. The paranoia normal users (like me) have is not unfounded. That being said, I'm not trying to accuse you of anything at all. It's just that slightly more clarification would be appreciated before you ask for someone to install apps that request for root rights.
// edit: Oh, and I'll be available if you need more maguro devices for testing.

OP you do realize that you've posted this in the wrong section.. do you?
There is a whole seperate section for apps/games in xda.
Best Regards.

Sounds to me like op is trying to start working on something and is requesting testers so can see what works and what doesnt one step at a time instead of finishing the whole thing and having to go back thru a bunch of crap to track down the offending code. Come on guys...help a guy out. Jeez!

Well I'm almost sure that this piece of the code works, just need a toro report.

Thank you all for your feedback, the app can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32856969#post32856969

question @ Paul so in theory can all unwanted apps be removed in a similar manner ? if so what steps would be necessary ? Thanks in advance and BTW thanks for contributing as always
That's fantastic! I can't wait to remove the bloatware from my g2! Any way to make a universal app that allows you to select the program to be removed? I'm not sure what sort of code that was involved with making your app work, but it seems like you could make a script based on the app that a user selects (like amazon mp3 or google earth).

I tip the burger I am eating in your favor! Awesome work!! I already used it, and updated goggles.
This is terribly brilliant. I read the explanation of the mechanism on the other forum - fooling the G2 into deleting files permanently from /system.
So the question is, are there any specific files in /system that, if deleted, could open up a further vulnerability to full root? This just got a lot more interesting
Any change of getting an app to remove all the bloatware in one shot?

No, when the phone is turned on, at some point the filesystem is turned to read only. As i understand it, they dont know what flips the switch at this point. esentially, we do actually know how to root the device, we just dont know how to accept writes to the system. paul has simply figured out how to trick the system into deleting files before the system turns into write protected. we still cant add anything to it, though.

i dont own one personally, but ive used a friends once or twice, and he asked me the same thing its relly difficult to pinpoint the model, but these are usually the differneces:
1. what color is the power light / Charge
2. does it vibrate on start up
3. any model info
4. WMT version, Can be found in setting about(if its a WonderMedia Technologies)
5. Download and use Android system info look at the memory (There are some vendors that fake the mem.)
6. look at the build.prop for any vendor info
EDIT** these instructions should help you root:

cool brah! thnx! ill get the spec asap! really appreciate the help!! ppl @ slatedroid were making me RAGE!! lolz
also, do you know the specs for screen resolution (1024x600 or 1024x576) and charger (9v or 5v)?
ok regardless of HW info, im 99% certain you have a KIRF, so your options are limited (read* non-existant ) for ROMS...
root wont be a problem, there are several methods. but the big issue is flashing roms over USB+mem stick(only gaurenteed method) has been known to cause more bricks than quality results with the SAWEE10/MERCURY...
i recommend ROOT + Titanium Backup (clear bloat) + System Panel/task killer (eliminate unnecessary processes) + New Launcher (your choice [or hers, whichever], its ALWAYS user preference ;P) to optimize the tablet.
ill PM you a bunch of links to help with these efforts and shed some light on this mess of a shadow tablet
Hey Gearhead I don't know what was happening with your post on my thread at SlateDroid. My last post to you however asked for specs on your tablet to make certain the firmware I have available in my roms section would work for her tablet. As Solidus mentioned, you really do run the risk of bricking because of the type of tablet you have. However, if you still intend to take the risk and flash, the usb flashing method is preferred over the IUW burning method as IUW is virtually almost irreversible unless you truly know what you're doing. On post 2 of my slate thread I go into great detail on root and bloat removal for improving your current system's performance. All the info you need is provided there in addition to what Solidus may have already provided to you. I know you have a bad taste in your mouth for that community now because you thought someone was deleting your post. However, I came up with that thread because I too could not find any info on my shadow of a tablet. If you look all over the internet you practically can't find device specific info for it.
Whether it's here on XDA, androidpassions, or SlateDroid, feel free to pm me and I will help you with what I can. Don't forget though that the people on that thread including myself have her tablet so all the problems she will face ahead will most likely been faced and overcome by them.
Thanks for providing a link to this XDA thread. Doing so may have further allowed me to assist you since you may not return to Slate.

It's not a real 2.3.. it's a 2.2 mutant lol it lies. I discourage your flashing of the roms mainly because yours came sawee and not tab10. Although the rom most likely will work, you run the risk or losing wifi.. even mine having been tab 10 even providing the correct drivers/firmware was unable to get the internal wifi functional again. So I purchased a $13 nano USB dongle and it works fantastic. Should you decide to take the risk, I would try the official ibex build on my page or the sawee build.

New member! What from to choose from?

I just picked up the UK galaxy nexus and am in love! I love this phone! Coming from its predecessor, the nexus s, I'm amazed at the jump in overall performance and data speeds. Everything is buttery smooth, especially its GPS locking (something that lacked on the nexus s).
However, being a frequent flasher of new goodies in the development section, it has led me to ask what roms are worth installing. Stock feels impressively stable and quick. Battery life seems promising at this point but further testing would have to be done to be completely sure. Is there anything missing from the new roms today that stock just doesn't hold up to?
Any input is welcomed! Thanks.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
You should take a look at aokp m5. Great customizing options, good performance and stable as Stock rom. I use it with Lean Kernel and battery life is also very good.
I also tried Gummy rom which was very good too but has less options than aokp.

Start off with aokp, its the go to rom. Then maybe paradigm next if you're not happy.
What's aokp got that has the edge over others (ie stock)
Is there an app for led control? Free flow has weird permissions that it asks for so I'm hesitant to use that.

Uh. Yeah it does. It's been around for a LONG time and a lot of people using a GN uses that app. The app is developed by a professional app development group, why would they make malicious apps?
You're asking for a app to customize your LED. In order for that to happen, the app must have all those permissions to know when to light your LED in that specific color that you set.

Not naive at all. As long as a app has popularity around the Android community then I'm fine with it. If it's a new app with no ratings or not listed on any websites, I'll look into it some more.
If you're being this paranoid then you should be paranoid about choosing a ROM and kernel because it may contain malicious code in it to steal all your info

It is being absolutely naive. Your reasons for trusting an app is completely base on public perception. Just because the census likes the app doesn't prove its safe.

Look at the permissions. They go with the app, it all makes sense. You want a app to perform checks on your phone. If that action is there, then it'll light up the LED in that particular color. It's obvious that you want a app to do a lot, in order to accomplish that you'll have to give permissions to that app.
If it's such a problem then don't install it. But if you want to customize your LED you WILL need to give access. And since you're flashing ROMs and all that, you're giving apps ROOT access. Are you going to question a app requesting root now? what about kernels and ROMs?
Someone uploads a radio, and so forth. When you flash ROMs, Kernels, etc it's a risk taker. Same thing with apps. Same thing with computers in general, same thing with life. Life is filled with risks and possible malicious attacks.
What's the fun in it when you're paranoid about every single little thing? Nothing. It's quite obvious that Light Flow LED is a app that ISN'T MALICIOUS as well as Google incorporated security measures to make sure apps being uploaded to the play store aren't malicious.
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2012/02/android-and-security.html
Not to mention Android is built on LINUX. There are viruses/malicious stuff on Linux but it's rare. Most malicious stuff come from third-party markets / downloaded APKs from unknown sources. Not from the Play Store, if it is on there then it will surely be removed.
If you're worried about permissions and all that of a particular party taking youre data? .. then that brings up the case of Google taking all your data for research and the whole debate of "privacy and Google."
Shall I continue? and I'm not hijacking your thread. You said,

You said,
I'm simply responding to that.

Cool story bro.. and please DONT continue. I'm not interested in your opinions nor do your opinions have any teeth to make an impression. I was simply asking If there was another way to control led not whether or not the app was safe.

As mentioned...A LOT in this thread....the app Light Flow is safe.

It's not a opinion. It's actually a fact. I even included a blog post from Google itself in regards to a sandbox with apps.
No, there is no way you can control your LED without giving it massive amounts of permissions. It's like saying you want a contractor to do several fixes around the house but yet you won't give them permission to be in your house to do the fix.
It's impossible for a app to control your LED and have it function properly because in order for the LED to come up. It needs permission to CHECK the state of your phone to do the LED actions. Otherwise, the LED would just be popping up randomly for no reason or LED wouldn't come up at all.
I don't get how this concept is hard to grasp. Maybe when CM incorporates "disabling permissions from a app" will make you happier. This was in CM7.

Its not hard to grasp at all. I understand all that you are saying but its not a huge concern of mine. You're blowing it up more than it has to..

I never said it was a huge concern. You asked, I simply answered. It's rude to ignore people's questions.

[Q] Any way to Customize/Personalize Notification Area ?

Hi All,
I've been looking for an app/tweak or something to be able to edit the notification area that opens with the "Down Gesture" on the status bar, my biggest thought about this is that there is a lot of space that could be saved/compressed so more useful information can appear within one screen, here you are some thoughts (my device is rooted and is working on stock 2.3.5):
1. Generally, rows heights can be cut to 1/3 at least.
2. Operator name can be removed (of course I know the operator I'm on and I don't need to get reminded everytime I open the notification area ).
3. The white background is really boring, it'd be better to have something that suits the background for example (at least semi-transparent).
I'll be happy to know what you think !
Thank you all.
You can mod statusbar and a whole lot more other UI features using the Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen hope that helps

Thank you indeed for your response, however, this isn't really what I'm looking for (when it's still very nice), but it mods everything individually, for example, I want to delete that header where the operator name is written and shift things up to save space, this isn't doable there (correct me if I'm mistaken)....
Let me know your thoughts !
Have you tried cm7 yet? It provides a greater control of your notification drawer than any of the sense versions.
Notificaiton Widgets
Choice of Large/Small Carrier Provider or your custom text
Change the tray colors using cm7 themes
For sense, I would think that you might need to modify some of the framework directly but I'm not sure as to how to do that.
More explanation to what I'm really thinking of !
Guys, let me try to make myself more clear, please find a screenshot I took now from my mobile and something like what I'd really like it to be (I edited the original one using photoshop)...
if you're interested in these toogles, check ELIXIR on Play Store :good:

But I want the recent apps already, I've gone thru the link, it removes it, I'd rather control its row height...I'd prefer to remove that header of the operator and shift things up (check the screenshots)...is there anthing like what u refered in android forums to do so ?

Guys...
The issue is starting to turn me crazy on android but I'm still insisting on making it work, I've previously submitted a question with all what I need to make...here you are my previous post with screenshots:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30861738&postcount=5
When I found that there is nothing ready made for what I want, I thought I'd make it myself, I started studying procedures for compiling, adb pushing, editing xml files responsible for the items I need to modify...
I know that removing the "Carrier Name" AND WHOLE BOX WITH THE CLEAR Button depends on Status_bar_expanded.xml (in systemui.apk), I need to know what shall I modify to reach what I want as in the screenshots, I tried zillions of things and got stuck many times in botting and I've been recovering and recovering and recovering the whole day
Soooo....any clues ?

You should not post your questions there.
You can not change the icon size or bar size. They needs some new codes and options which is beyond my reach. U need a good dev. Carrier name can be removed. But it needs lots of research as nothing is written in english in the smali, it sucks. If I can do it I ll tell U. I seen ur that post in the morning. Just didnt know what to say.

Thanks for the reply, i was really turning crazy, I've been studying everywhere and tried adb pushing zillions of times either nothing changes or status bar disappears or even a bootloob
it looks like the architecture needs modifying, I'll update u if I got any breakthrough.
do u think other roms can solve this ? I'm not really into this but I'd try to get rid of that **** !

[Q] CWM Recovery from GT-I9195 on SCH-l435?

Every day I get up and think to myself "there are only two things left that I'd like to do in terms of tweaking this phone":
The first is a succesful implementation of the v6 supercharger script, which at the moment has to be run manually. That's because there's a bug with SManager Script Manager that only effects Samsung devices. I'm in communication with the developer and that will hopefully be remedied soon.
The other is what I'd like to ask all of you about. It's regarding CWM Recovery.
My impatience has google repeatedly bringing me back to the same article on how to root/cwm GT-I9195.
Namely, this link: http://www.andromint.com/root-install-cwm-recovery-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini/
Now, my phone is SCH-l435 (Verizon). I'm already rooted. Are the odds good that CWM from GT-l9195 would work on my device?
Talk me down, wisers. Talk me down.
No

I would ask @Phil3759 in this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463322
If u can provide him with some info about your phone maybe he can help u out
Follow what fburgos did for I9192 and do the same
Don`t bother him on PM just mention him on that topic and wait patiently
If anything I've been working on it since last night, took a nap and I am back at it today, either way it shouldn't be long from now
Thanks, both of you. I'll check out the links as well this weekend.
As for your effort to get it going, wow ... you've got my gratitude!
Let me know if there's any way I can help. I'm not a developer but I am programmatically tech-savvy.
