Help with WiFi Disconnect - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I need some assistance trying to narrow down what is causing my issue. I posted this in the LiquidSmooth thread but I wanted to post here to get more exposure and perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in. I believed this to be a JB kernel issue but I also tried CM9 on my phone and the problem persists.
Yes, for some reason my phone will randomly disconnect from my WiFi connection. the actual WiFi service will remain on; I can see available networks but it will not reconnect to my saved AP unless I toggle WiFi off/on, and even then it will randomly disconnect again. The same thing happens with CM, and ALL CM-based roms. I have tried Faux, Imoseyon, Trinity, stock, and Ktoonsez kernels and none seemed to fix this issue.
Stock TW roms, both ICS and JB, keep my connection just fine. I also used the same CM nightly build on my GS3 and my Galaxy Nexus for testing purposes. The GS3 will lose connection while the GNex does not, so I figured it had something to do with the kernel since those are usually phone-specific.
As for the WiFi signal, I don't have any issues neither at work nor at home with TW-based roms. This only happens on AOSP. Any insight you guys have regarding this issue is appreciated. Thanks!

I ran a logcat but to be honest, I do not know what to make of it. would anyone happen to understand where my issue is?

WiFi not working correctly after custom recovery flash

Is anyone else experiencing this? This has happened to me with a couple of different roms; sfhub's rooted FF18, datajosh's FF18 rooted deodexed rom, and PhantomHacker's ICS FF18 Blazer rom. After I flash a custom recovery like agat's or chris41g's my wifi start not working properly. It will connect fine and work for a little while. I haven't quite pinpointed when it stops working, but after sometime the wifi will just stop bringing down data. This may be happening when the phone goes to sleep. Regardless, it will be connected to the router, but no data is flowing. I need to turn off and then turn the WiFi back on to get it working again. I've tried changing the wifi to disconnect when the phone is asleep, that sort of fixes things, but I'd rather have my phone always connected.
So, do other experience this? Is this a common problem I just have to deal with? Is there a thread somewhere that I'm missing that will help me fix this?
Right now, I'm running an the AOKP milestone 6 rom that came with the TWRP custom recovery and wifi is working properly, but I'm thinking I want to go back to a TW rom but want to figure out this WiFi issue. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
I'm having the same problem, but only on my home network as far as I can tell. I found a thread elsewhere that proposed it was a problem with using WPA PSK encryption on 802.11g networks and a bug with ICS. The suggested solution was to change your encryption to WPA2 PSK. I did this and thought it fixed the problem, but it has returned a day later.
This doesn't happen when I'm at work, so I think it is some setting on my home network that ICS doesn't like.
I also experience this problem. I'll try messing around with my router tonight. I feel like I also don't have problems at school. So its worth a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.

So, I actually wasn't able to mess around with my router last night. But I'm wondering if this could be a router issue and not a security issue. Out of curiosity, what kind of router are you using? I'm using an old WRT54GL that I really like and suits my needs fine. I just can't believe out of everyone on XDA with an E4GT that most everybody isn't running WPA security of their routers. Similar to you, when I'm at school I'm not experiencing this issue. I'm wondering if I should buy a router from Walmart or something and see if it fixes the issue, return it if it doesn't. Thoughts?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue after loading the FF18 OTA update from stock recovery. Factory reset after update did not correct the issue, Sprint support has not been overly helpful- and went as far to say that correcting the issue may require replacement of the phone, and that I shouldn't accept the ICS update on the new phone if I go that route (not doing that).
Possible Solution
Okay, today I swapped out my wireless router with a dual band wireless N router from netgear. I've had it installed for a couple of ours and so far my WiFi on my phone is working as it should. I've made no changes to my phone. So, this may be a router issue. I don't know anything about hardware, or why this would be happening, but this may be a solution. I'll post an update if the WiFi ever acts up again.

I apologize for resurrecting this thread but, for posterity, i'm also running a WRT54GL v1.1 and have the same problem on two different E4GTs running FF18. I have tried the 4.30.15 cisco firmware after factory reset along with tomato 1.28 (with different SSIDs), both had the same issue (i.e. wifi seems to 'hang' after a few hours. the notification bar shows the wifi signal strength, as well as being connected, but unable to do anything online. this issue only appears to happen when using this router.), which suggests a possible hardware incompatibility. the current fix is to diable/reenable wi-fi, which will work again for a few hours. The router works perfectly will all other devices.
I will poke around a bit tonight and post results if I find anything
UPDATE: I apologize for the wait, but may have a workaround. The phones have since been updated to FH13 and both still had the same problem.
I'm currently using Linksys/Cisco firmware Ver.4.30.15 for my WRT54GL v1.1. In the wireless security section of the web interface, I have changed the security type from WPA2 Personal to just WPA Personal. No other settings were changed. Just to rule out a DHCP issue, I set an IP statically on the phone but this may not be necessary. Since the change I have not had the "connected but not really" problem as described above.
I have had a limited time to test the change, but if the problem persists at least it's an improvement. I will keep the thread updated with what I find.
Yes please keep us posted if you find anything with the settings on the router. i have the same router as you ther WRT54GL and I am experencing the same wifi connected yet disconnected bug. Have to turn it off then back on to make it work right.
I have the same issue. Not sure what the issue is but I never had any problems on Gingerbread.

+1 I too never had any issues with GB 2.3.6. The wifi problem started with ICS FF18 and now too with FH13

Intermittent WiFi Stability on AOSP

Hey everyone, just came over here from the HTC One X ( AT&T ) forums, smashed the screen on it and used an upgrade to get an AT&T SGS3, loving it so far. Had it rooted and custom recovery, and was on a custom ROM not even an hour after getting home. Anyway, onto the main part of this post.
I tried CM10 ( the 11/01 and 11/02 nightlies), both of the AOKP, and LiquidSmooth, and on all of them, my WiFi stability is not there. It seems to disconnect at random, if connect at all, and when i walk out of range of the router, and then come back, it will not automatically reconnect until i go into airplane mode. Trying to turn WiFi itself off and back on does not work - it won't turn off/back on, it sticks at what it was at.
TouchWiz ROMs, everything works just fine. I'm pretty sure it was working on MIUI as well, but i didnt have MIUI on there long enough to properly test it.
I am using the UCLH9 radio, since AFTER searching the forums pretty in-depth, i found that all radios prior to UCLH9 had wifi driver issues. Flashing this new radio did NOT fix the issue.
I have tried both stock CM10 kernel AND Ktoonsez's kernel (which is pretty freakin awesome, btw! :good: ) and still have WiFi problems.
I have tried flashing ROMs through both TWRP and CWM Recoveries, and have done a full wip of /system /data /cache and /dalvik-cache 3 times each before flashing a ROM.
I'm a pretty competent at flashing ROMs and troubleshooting problems, I am a pretty well-known beta-tester for multiple Sense and AOSP ROMs over at the One X forums, and I have a very good knowledge of how to work ADB and Fastboot. I've been around XDA for a little while, and I know the way of things around here. (don't want you guys thinking im just another a$$hole that threw a post up the second a problem occurred without doing some research first!)
If anyone has ANY ideas as to what may be causing the wifi drivers to crash, PLEASE fill me in.
I've tried all the same things you have and have had no success. The best wifi stability I got was the AOKP_d2att milestone1 w/ lean kernel combination, but wifi would stay connected for 3-5 minutes as opposed to 30 seconds.
I briefly tried CM9, but that still had wifi issues. I might try a few other ICS roms
I came across these threads that documented the problem across other phones:
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34942
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=36993
I've decided that I'm stuck with ICS until the official JB comes out.

Well, I flashed Intergalactic, which is a modded Stock ICS TW ROM based on the AT&T firmware. Shortly after, I reinstalled TWRP recovery and flashed task's AOKP with ktoonsez's kernel, and WiFi works!
This is similar to an issue we had several weeks back with CM10 based ROMs on the HTC One X, you couldn't get LTE unless you flashed a ROM based on Android 4.0.3, it was something with CM10 obviously, because it was fixed in one of the October nightlies iirc.
Try flashing intergalactic and then task and ktoonsez aokp and see if your WiFi is working and let me know

Nope, no luck this way either.
Wifi under Intergalactic works fine.
TWRP flash AOKP milestone 1 alone, with the ktoonsez kernel, or with lean kernal and my wifi still hangs after ~1 minute of inactivity. The phone grinds to a halt. If you can get to the settings, it says that I am connected to my router, but shows no signal bars. If you can then turn wifi off, the phone un-freezes, and (except for no wifi access), the phone is back to normal. If you now turn wifi back on, it stays up for another minute or two and goes down again.
I'm open to any other suggestions.
Thanks though
Avram
i am using task and ktoonsez rom....when i first installed it, i noticed wifi dropping, it was annoying.
kinda dont happen anymore. The only 2 things i can think of that might have helped me is; i flashed a new modem i747MVLLE8(I'm with rogers), and under Wi-fi(menu/advanced), i unchecked poor connections.
also my router is 2.4ghz and 5ghz band, but i am connected to the 2.4ghz band.
hope it helps somehow.
I had horrible dropouts and speed with my last WiFi router. I forget the name/model but it was a new model (released this year) that had great reviews.
I went back to my old router and all my wifi problems disappeared.
I do get dropouts once in awhile still. But I haven't done a clean ROM install in awhile.

[Q] CM10 Nightlies and Extremely Slow WIFI Hotspot connections

I am a Big supporter of the CM Team and how they were able to give New Life to my old Epic 4G. Great job!
The problem I am having started when I moved from using CM9 to CM10 After doing a Factory Reset "clean" install... I primary use my Epic 4G as a Wifi Hotspot for my Xoom WIFI tablet which is using Team EOS3 Nightly ROMs. Now I never had ANY WiFi (speed) related problems using the CM9 version as long as I had a good signal. When I upgraded to CM10 I was able to enable the WiFi HotSpot but web browsing was extremely slow and had timeout issues to the point where it is completely frustrating and unusable. The issues due not seem to be depended on the phone's signal strength and I have not been able to resolve the problem. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
Thank you in advance,
I have something similar. It seem to have began after the 11/19 nightly for me. The range of my connection seem to have decreased. Or if it is connected with -70 and below on Wifi Analyzer, it may get not data or very slow speeds, and timeout issues.
I have not seen any kernel changes from bbelos, so maybe it is something else in the CM nightly changes?
I am currently on 11/29 nightly, stock kernel.

I am on the nightly from 12/3, and I can't get the wifi tether to work regardless of what I try (have set it up with open, WPA2, used Auto and Device specific for Epic 4G) - nothing seems to get it to work.
Is there another modem or anything else I should try? I tried to post on the CM10 forum, but as I'm new, I'm not allowed to.

Don't use an app, there is an option in settings>more>Tethering & portable hotspot
I can't even get it to work with the built in option. It acts like there is no internet.

[Q][Worked-around] Wifi not scanning on AOSP Roms

When I'm running an AOSP Rom, my Wifi only scans for networks after a fresh boot. Once it has connected to a network, no more scanning happens, no matter how often I tell it to. It's quite an annoyance when I have to reboot my phone every time I leave home and want to connect to a coffeeshop Wifi outside.
Once it is connected, there are not further issues - signal is good, no random disconnects or anything. Just no scanning.
Everything works fine on stock, and I've successfully tried ViperX with Sense 5, but all AOSP Roms I've been trying recently had this behavior - I have no idea what's causing it. Maybe it's an issue with the CM kernel (most Roms use some form or other of it)?
I really have no idea. Thought I'll post a question here while I go do some more troubleshooting of my own.
I also just grabbed a snippet of what I hope is the relevant part of the logs: https://paste.xinu.at/WO9zZ/
On second thought, maybe it's not AOSP based, but rather 4.3. I haven't spent much time on 4.2 with this phone, so I don't remember if the problem existed back then. If I don't find a solution, I will downgrade later to make sure.
Solved Somewhat... Not really. Worked-around maybe.
I rolled back to CM 10.1.2, and the problem went away. Seems like it wasn't AOSP causing the problem, but the new always-on feature in 4.3, which allows scanning for networks even though Wifi is switched off. I've done some searching, and other people on all kinds of devices have had problems with Wifi since this change was implemented.
Once I disabled this feature and toggled Wifi off/on once, the problem seems to be gone on CM 10.2. Not quite a proper solution, but I guess I can live with that for now, I don't really have the time, energy or experience to look into this further. Maybe somebody more enlightened than I has a proper solution.

Constant Wifi Disconnects - Will a Custom ROM Fix This?

My Robin was working just fine until a little over a week ago when these random but frequent wifi disconnects started happening. It seems to be a common issue with the phone. I'm not seeing any threads on here regarding the issue, however, so I'm wondering if a custom ROM will fix it. I've no experience with this sort of thing, so forgive me if it's a silly question.
I've never been on stock before, so I can't report on that. But as far as I can tell AOSPA is the only ROM I've had minor WIFI issues with. So assuming the stock rom has WIFI disconnection issues, yes a custom rom should fix it.
WiFi
Im using HEBF Optimizer apk It seems to be helping me a little
Running my vpn apk helps too...
Thank you for the replies. I suppose I'll just have to try it and see.
