Possible 3G on T-Mobile/GSM Networks - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

First of all, check out this video right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h8MtU01JBc&feature=g-all-u
To sum it up, T-Mobile is rolling out 3G for iPhone users, which could previously only use edge.
Now as 99% of GSM users know, we can only use edge as of right now, just like the iPhone. Does this mean that we too will be able to get 3G?!
This is some pretty exciting news, hopefully some devs or people that are more knowledgeable about radios/antennas/data frequencies can elaborate more on whether or not this new 3G will be compatible with the Droid Inc 2.

News Update from Boy Genious re: LTE wow

Boy Genius report "Not wanting to be extremely late to the show like they were with 3G devices for GSM networks (bringing up painful memories, anyone?), the folks over at RIM HQ recently decided to create a work team that’s been specifically entrusted with the task of creating an LTE BlackBerry. The intention of the RIM execs is to have an LTE BlackBerry ready at approximately the same time that LTE begins worldwide deployment, something that could come as early as late 2009 if Motorola has their way. Motorola’s seemingly overly zealous ambitions aside, 2011 is the year when LTE is generally expected to be available with the major carriers of the world. In case some of you are wondering what the hell LTE is, it’s also known as 4G network technology and is the heir to 3G and 3.5G networks. Think of it as an IP-based network in which voice and data connections are streamed together without distinction and are broadcasted through a ridiculously fast connection that has up to four-times the efficiency at delivering data-packets than the 3.5G networks of today. As with all of our scoops, we’ll be sure to keep monitoring this situation and keep you updated with the latest news."
Wow, now imagine some Windows Mobile devices having this speed for data and voice, I know that the blackjack II has great speed in ATT network, but seriously, why don't carriers have a more unified network, look at Tmobile, with there obscure frequency, instead of having the same frequency as ATT and being able to have those folks that defect to Tmobile and would like a fast connection, they don't realize that ATT's 3G connection keeps a lot of customers happy, its just fast as hell and like me and I'm sure there are a ton of us out there but oh well, enough ranting

T-mobile and At&T can't have the same frequencies unless they were the same business. Since they are separate entities, if they used the same bands, there would be interference and the present 3g would not work on either network. I wish that wireless carriers would simplify aswell, however there is the fact that they are businesses, and businesses want more money. They are not parts of the government.

Well, if THAT were true, how do you explain the fact that Tmobile and ATT use the same regular GSM frequencies (850, 1900..) ? Or, how would explain the fact that there's SEVERAL carries throughout Europe that ALL use 3G bands at the same time ?

True, I agree with you, I'm sure its done on purpose so people like me who buy ATT phones can't use them to full specs on Tmobile and vice versa, If Europe can deal with tons of 3G towers, why can't we, MONEY, MONEY.

Haha nice way to put it... they do use the same frequency as when you are roaming on t-mobile it will pick up at&t at times... therefore it has to be the same frequency...

Desire to ATT?

BGR seems to think so. I'm SO getting one if it's true.
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I never liked the htc sense but is gaining on me so much. Just waiting for the first one on AT&T's 3g. The nexus one I will put htc sense on for sure and the Desire I will root it so I can CHANGE from sense to stock android. Anybody's strategy for the first htc android phone on AT&T?

i want the desire. i like the sense UI and would rather have it on the device instead of using ROMs.
part of me wants the nexus, so updates are always out.. but there's always xda XD.
oh no! what if I buy an att desire for t-mobile, will I get 3g?
Oh please Heavenly Lord don't give such a beast to such a undeserving network! Let them stick with the iphone.
And to the above you will get 2G only!!!
Down with AT&T!!!!
This phone should come to T-Mobile since they need an exclusive phone (the nexus one doesn't count because of that lame arse plan you have to get) that is really good.
Stick with your iPhone AT&T. You need the fanboys going over to you and let the "real" carriers get the Android phones.
I thought Tmobile was getting this phone??
I don't see why everone is dogging AT&T? ya i'm not in love with the carrier or iphone. In fact i'm one the biggest iphone haters alive, but AT&T is the only service where I get 3g and it is FAST. T-MOBILE gets edge at best on the nations 3rd largest carrier. I know AT&T doesn't get good service in some big cities but the best option for me and my area within a 250 mile rdaius. You should be excited att id getting an droid phone, but of course att will some how screw with android with some yahoo android apps or something.
Desire!
This is most likely my next device. I am so glad to see that AT&T saw fit to get a real HTC with great specs. I have been anxiously awaiting which HTC device was coming my way. There is no way I was going to settle for the Backflip! They may also be getting the Sony Ericcson X10 which is also a nice device, but in my opinion nothing compared to the Desire. The confirmed Dell mini 3 is not even a consideration, but the mini 5 would definately have my attention. Cant wait to hear a release date, I know what I'm getting myself for my Bday in May if the release date works out.

Your carrier fanboyism aside, I don't want an iphone. I can't switch to T-mobile. Know why? Because there's no T-mobile 3G where I live.
Millions of americans are in the same predicament, and choices are usually limited 1 or 2 carriers. For east Orlando, that means VZW or AT&T. Hence, despite T-mobile's awesome prices and great phones (I wanted an N1, HD2 and an N900, guess whose network they only work with?), there's an important reason why they're still #4- they keep avoiding us. So piss off...
That said, I want an N1 or Desire... hurry up AT&T!!!

I don't think it'd make a whole lot of sense for TMo to get both the Nexus One (which they're rumored to get - subsidized on-contract, not the unlocked version) and the Desire; they're basically the same hardware...
I want this on tmobile so bad. i love tmobile
Will the desire with its current specification run on at&t 3G network? I noticed the 850 band is only labeled GSM, while the 900/2100 is labeled HSDPA.
In this column, he mentions it will only run on 2G in the states.

No. Need to wait for a US version otherwise the best you'll get is edge.
Lol, I have AT&T and I'll stay with them only if I can't get this phone with Verizon.
Problem is, AT&T drops lots of my calls, somewhere in the neighborhood of 5% around town and as high as 20% where I live. They seem fine other wise. When i'm traveling to other areas, life is good with them. Their devices work internationally and I can talk and surf at the same time. When I'm near my home which isn't a rural area at all, drop drop drop.

Or find some way to get an unlocked one from Telstra Austrailia, they'll be rolling out the Desire next month. They run an 850Mhz 3G network and as with their 850Mhz Touch HD, their 850Mhz Desire should work on AT&T as well.

[Q] Can someone get a korean radio on the Inc?

so, im pretty sure everyone has heard about the korean radio that gave the nexus one a 10x 3G Speed Increase, and i just wanted to know if anyone can port that over into the Incredible. im new to radios, so i dont know if there has to be any requirements for them.
also, ive also heard the speed increases are because of t-mobile releasing HSPA+ and not the radios, can anyone verify?
I've not heard about that, and all the reports I can find show a marginal at best improvement, and a 10x increase on an EVDO rev A network is impossible. The data rates just are not there.
I don't see this working in any way on the DInc since T-Mobile is a GSM network and Verizon is CDMA (hurry up and get LTE launched worldwide people! =p).

[Q] Question regarding Once we have LTE

Once we have LTE properly activated in most areas, will we still face the delays in custom rom support and also android software update delays? My understanding is that our phones having wimax for 4g is a major reason why our phones are not supported or we start getting support much later then GSM phones.
I am asking here because lot of people here have awesome technical knowledge and they post detailed specs etc regarding phones, technologies etc. If it does not belong here, Moderators feel free to delete this thread.
It's not necessarily the 4G that's keeping us from having goodies. It's the CDMA (3g and 2g portion). Without these, the phone cannot function as a phone and that's why devs can simply drop 4g support when releasing major rom such as cm7. Once they get a stable base of everything working, then they can create their own 4g drivers to get 4g working. Many more can live without 4g than 3g.

[Q] Data while on phone?

This is something I just discovered the other day and it kinda bugged me out cause as far as I knew data while on voice wasn't possible on CDMA.. But I was inside a cafe getting lunch, and while on the phone I had to look up something on ticketmaster and was amazed that I was actually able to surf the web while on the phone. I have had blackberries, WM phones and an Evo prior to this and it was never possible (unless on wifi) I'm in NYC so there is no LTE available yet.. Has anyone who is in a non-LTE market able to do this?
I've seen this mentioned before by some others. Here's a link to one such thread.

Thanks! When I saw this I kissed my phone, LOL.. But really this is why this phone is so damn amazing.. It makes it so much easier to quickly look something up then to have to say "lemme look this up real quick I'm gonna call you back".
Yep it's great isn't it. The newer phones on Sprint or at least Galaxy 3 and Evo LTE are svdo capable aka simultaneous voice and data. Thank God cdma networks can now do this (Sprint, Verizon) as the gsm networks (TMobile, and AT&T) have been able to do this for a long time.

Yup! And don't forget the LG Viper it was the first LTE phone to bring the feature. Kinda messed up the Galaxy Nexus is the only LTE phone that don't support it.
yeah, I found this out today and I about screamed out of joy!. I was downloading G Maps and had to call my wife, so I called her and realized the 3G icon didn't go away, like it does on the Epic 4G (my last phone). And I had to tell my wife "hold on" and went back to my notifications and realizeed GMaps was still downloading. What a great feature on a CDMA phone. One more reason to love my GSIII I wish i could find out who thought of this, so I could buy him/her a beer. Peace!
i never even paid attention... usually the only time im using data while on the phone is at home with wifi or occasionally when im on 4g which of course is not cdma... never new this feature was implemented... good to know gsm no longer has the one up on us...
Does this chipset use a different 3G technology?
I remember when the Thunderbolt came out for Verizon everyone was amazed that it could do this and the reason was Verizon/Thunderbolt's Chipset was using some different type of EVDO revision that allowed it to work or something. Maybe I'm wrong on the technical details lol, but the general idea is right.....
