A few days ago I've installed the unofficial CM9 on my dear old buzz, precisely the 2012.09.20 version from this thread by ErwinP. Almost immediately the OTA (off-the-air?) updater informed me that an update is available.
A few details: even if the current CM9 buzz snapshot is marked as 2012.09.20 the OTA says it is 2012.08.18; this has been explained by one of the mantainers as being normal. FOr the same reason, the update is marked as 2012.08.30, but I did not worry about it.
Anyway, whenever I try to download the update after a few seconds I get a notify message "md5 error - downloaded file invalid!" and stops. If I then browse the SD card I find an "OTA updater/download" directory, which is empty.
My question is: is this behaviour normnal, i.e. because of the ROM being unnoficial it does not have OTA updates? Am I the only one experiencing this problem?
Thank you in advance
Don't download the update - you have a newer version than that. OTA updates are meant to work, but since the build.prop hasn't changed (it's hard to change) than it will always display an older version and want you to update.

Hi All,
Last week I received a system update for my Nexus 7 for Lollipop. At that time I didn't want to update so I dismissed the notification. The problem is that I can't get it to re-appear. I've already tried to check for updates 100 times over a couple of days. I've also cleared the Google Play Services and then check for updates, but didn't work.
Is there a simple way to get the update notification again?
Thank you for your help!
Yes, wait for the OTA to become available again. There's a possibility that the latest OTA (5.0.1) was pulled and is no longer available. If you really want the update, download the firmware from Google and flash it manually.
Edit: someone got the notification today. So who knows why you haven't received the notification.
I thought one you dismiss the notification and don't take the update you go back to the end of the queue - so it could be weeks before you get it again.
Happened to me as well. Got the notification last week for 5.0.1, didn't update but didn't dismiss it either. After a couple of days it just disappeared and so far hasn't shown again.
I'm still waiting on 5.0 here. Getting annoyed and was looking for sideload update options but if other people are still waiting on it I guess I'll hold off a bit longer.
If you're now running a modified stock rom, you will most likely have issues updating with the OTA. Here's a way to update without having problems or waiting for the OTA with no loss of data: Download the rooted rom from Scrosler found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex.../rom-factory-stock-rooted-rom-lrx22c-t2960745 , use Wugfresh's NRT 1.9.9 to update the bootloader that's also mentioned in Scrosler's thread, and then dirty flash (no wipes) the 5.0.1 rom with TWRP.

Stop waiting and do it manually. Why is everyone so consumed with sideloading? You can flash the latest firmware in fastboot without losing anything.
When I lost my update (long story) it took 3 days to come back. A little less than I was expecting but still a little more than I wanted. I'd expect you'll get it back in 2-3 days.
Same here! But will download it now instead. Tierd of waaiting
The update showed up on my phone and so I updated it after unrooting my phone, removing lucky patcher, freedom, sd booster, and so on. After downloading the update, phone rebooted showed it was updating then Error. Rebooted the phone then the update was no longer there, tried using System update but to no avail.
My question is.. how do I fix this for me to be able to update to the latest?
I'm getting a similar problem. However instead of doing what you did to unroot and such, I flashed the 2.17 via their recovery and now I don't get the prompt for 2.18 update at all.
Its confusing as to why its acting like this :/
I already removed all root applications and unrooted the phone then did a factory reset but afterwards it put me to one of its old build and wont freakin update anymore.. Any help regarding this would be very much appreciated..
I am open to rooting and manually flashing the latest build.. Problem is, I was a Sony user whom just switched to zenfone.. So i have no idea how to or what to flash on our zenfone 2..
I had rooted my phone and removed some of the bloatware (I wish I knew better at that time).
But anyway, I got the OTA notification. I unrooted my phone and applied the update.
Things seemed to work fine but when the phone rebooted, the dreaded "Error" dead bot appeared. But unlike many, I didn't get stuck in a boot loop as the phone started normally.
And it looks like the update was applied because the System Update build number shows "2.18.40.12" (earlier was 2.17.40.12)
Should I be worried? Should I flash the stock ROM? Or is there any other method of restoring the bloatware?
Thanks for your time
EDIT: I flashed my phone just to be sure. I suppose this thread is irrelevant now.
you haven't finished , actual OTA is 2.19.40.18
I haven't received that update yet. 2.18.40.12 was the older update and was the one I downloaded/installed.
So I just got a new S9 and I was installing all the updates until Baseband version: G960USQS3BRK2 (December security patch) the last available update before Pie which I'm holding off updating to. The G960USQS3BRK2 update installed but afterwards I got an error saying "software update failed, that it will revert to last update and to send the error report" but when I check my software information it shows that G960USQS3BRK2 was installed. Also I noticed that I can't view "last update information" under software update to see update details. Is this because it failed? Usually I can see the details there. I haven't experienced any issues with the phone yet but I'm not sure what I should do. I just got done setting up everything and I'm not sure if I should just leave the phone as is or perform a factory reset (if that would even help). I provided screenshots of what i'm talking about. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hello everyone. I am having a grave issue with my Red Magic 5G.
Whenever I try to update my firmware to a newer version, whether it's from OTA or OTG, whenever it tries to update itself, it keeps giving me an error that tells me "Install Package Failure" whenever it reaches 24% installation.
I have tried a factory/hard reset, as well as a complete wipe and reformat using TWRP, but still can't get the phone to update properly. How can I fix this? Thank you.
Same issue here. But I think as long as the phone works it should be fine not updating it. The only problem I see here is the update notification that can be annoying sometimes.
However I really would like to know why this happens, why doesn't the phone want to install the update?
My current version: NX659J_ENCommon_V8.12
Version that fails to install: NX659J_ENCommon_V8.57
Btw, does "EN" in the version name stand for "European Nations" (Europe) , do I have the European firmware version?
