I recently purchased a replacement screen from ebay for a HTC G2/Desire Z. However when bit arrived it was clearly the wrong screen with the wrong type of connection on the back. I contacted the seller but he replied saying there are 2 generations of this device which use a different type of screen.
Here's the posting on ebay.

AFAIK there is only one "generation" of G2/Desire z's.

In deed. There's only one generation of the desirez name. G2 is for G2, predecessor was G1 (dream).
But something is wrong here, how can you think it can look like a g2 screen? Its not even near. Looks more like a blackberry storm screen.
the problem is that some sellers dont pay attention to what g2 actually is. when the dream came out we all knew it was the g1 in tmobiles branding. problem is that everyone thought the next phone to come out (magic/sapphire) was the g2.
being that tmobile didnt call it the g2 that wasnt the true name but many took it as just that. when tmobile and htc decided to make the g2 (vision) people started to get confused, albeit their own misconception was their own fault.
its been two years and many still refer to the magic as a g2, so be careful when buying parts or downloading software for either phone.
sorry for the long response, this just always has bothered me.
you have g2 (vision) the seller was trying to give you a screen for the what he thinks is a g2 but really just a magic/sapphire. just return it and complain that it is their fault for mislabeling their product
Yeah, but he clearly states Desire Z with model number so it's definitely a misleading post so hopeful will get full refunded.

exactly, the seller assumed that the discription was interchangeable, you better get a refund and not have to pay return shipping

Btw tmobile uk called the sapphire/magic the tmobile g2
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
Exactly. False advertising tho it'd be wrong to assume the seller was purposefully lying or putting out false info, probably just got confused but you should get a refund

Yeah, I've been in contact with the seller and he is adamant that there are 2 generations of the desire Z. I'll escalate it to ebay and hopefully it'll get sorted,

tell him to prove it, there is only one generation of the dz. and it shares the same lcd as the tmobile g2 (vision) as someone had pointed out, the magic/sapphire was called tfhe g2 in england, but there is only one dz

I'm thinking of changing my g2 for a g2x or another 4G celphone
Depends, the main selling point of the G2 over any of Tmo's 4g phones is the Keyboard, (IMO). it happens to be, I may pick one up in a few months after it's been rooted and such. I wan't to see what the Dev community is going to be like on a phone like that.
I was going to do the same, but decided to wait for the Pyramid instead

good idea
G2x doesn't seem to bring anything new so I'm sticking with my g2. Next year whatever the best phone for tmo is, if its white then I will get it. Seeing a white nexus s is so amazing, it made me fall in love with white phones.

The G2x doesn't offer anything new?
It's dual core (first for T-Mobile and one of the first period)
8MP camera vs 5MP on G2
FFC (if you care about such things)
HDMI out (first for T-Mobile)
AT&T compatible radio (will get 3G or "4G" speeds post merger)
I can see the case for waiting for future phones but honestly the G2x is the most "new" phone on T-Mobile since the Nexus One.
Oh my mistake. I thought it was just a g2 with dual core.

G2x is no good. Htc much better than lg.

Aha next year... I hope the fcc doesn't aprove of At&T then maybe ill think of buying a new phone next year. G2x sounds nice but I want a phone made by HTC

At least LG isn't starting to use signed bootloaders unlike HTC.
Hey all, seeing as how Wirefly has posted the g2x for being 149.99 on pre-order, I was wondering if it was worth it to jump on the bandwagon quickly, or just wait till the reviews come out. The deal ends on Friday if I am not mistaken, so i just wanted the forums advice;
would you think i should wait for the reviews to come out?
do the pre-order devices generally have a worse build quality compared to a month later purchase? (I know that some people said that the g2 hinge got better as htc improved the hinge over time, but i doub thtat)
Thanks alot!
EDIT: mod, please delete this thread, i didnt know ther was an optimus 2x thread, ill move it to there
Pre order just means you are waiting in line for it
Generally, after reading about many devices, never buy it the first time around. Wait a good month or two and read reviews.

so i take it that the htc didnt make the hinge stronger over time? (as absurd as it sounds)
I got mine early as well except I walked into the store and got it. I haunt had any hinge problems.

Never pre-order, especially LG products.
The phone might turn out to be a ****ty phone.

Idk?? Ive seen some phones (on youtube) that have ****ty hinges.. ive never had an issue. And why not preorder?? You have a buyers remorse period for a reason.. use it. The only reason id wait is to see development support for a phone. But since cyanogen said he was gettin at G2 i knew id be good.

Please vote.

Yeah, I think for the most part, this will be a poll on who is in the US, and who is elsewhere. Aside from the small number of people in the US (like myself) that bought Canada Bell Desire Z's to work on AT&T.
Desire Z for me

Does T-Mobile still offer the G2 as a replacement for a G2 or do they now have a "like model" phone?
They should still have a bunch of refurbished ones still laying around.

I am not positive but my friend recieved a sidekick 4g when he had to do a warranty claim.

I'd shoot myself (and them) if they tried that
I heard they're back on Tmobile.com so they should still have them in stock to replace
Lol I agree. I need to do a warranty replacement myself for one of them since my headphone jack is no longer working.

If it is a warranty replacement then I personally have never had to pay anything including shipping (standard) if it is a claim for assurian then I believe the cost is 130.00.

Yes they certainly do. But if it's still has factory warranty, (which I highly doubt by now) then you can just go through HTC for replacement. I'm not sure but you can try.
Ohh u guys are all talking about replacement by htc?? I thought this was that ~$5 a month insurance plan that tmobile offers if u break ur phone or if it's stolen. Also engadget had an article saying that tmobile was once again selling the g2 so I'm sure they have a bunch of new inventory that they would give as replacements
If you go through tmobile it is a $5 replacement. What I can't figure out, a month ago I was having battery problems, and they gave me the option for a replacement g2, or a mytouch 4g slide.
I took the slide, and I love the phone itself, its way faster and sleeker than the g2, but not being able to s-off and lack of development has me coming back to the g2. Also I'm not a sense fan at all, and due to the lack of devs, they don't have a stable cm7 aosp..
Today, no kidding, my wifes phone took and dump and won't charge either. We called tmobile up, and they weren't offering another phone as a replacement. Just a g2. So she is getting her replacement g2 Tuesday, and I'm going to switch phones with her miss my g2 and can't wait to root the new one and load up some roms and be able to change radios again!!
If you decide to use the $5/mth insurance way, they also charge you an additional 130 on top of having to pay the 5 bux a mth which I think is a rip off.

Yup keyword though is with contract so that's not full price...
I never pay full price I think that's useless especially since I keep a phone for a while it'll be two yrs this fall and I might just get the one s or g4x if the rumor is true but only if the g3 doesn't come. By fall the one series will probably be less than 200 because there's always a sale during the winter holidays

I seriously hope the rumor that the One X will come to tmo with the Tegra 3 chipset is true. Supposedly continuing the G series as the 'G3X' I think. Still though..... *drool*

Its time to say goodbye from most of us to our desires in our coming months. I remember my first unboxing. First rom i flashed. Many good times.
Honestly the desire was a perfect device in so many ways and can still keep up in current times. But better things lie ahead *cough* one x *cough*
Please post memories of your desire and what your going to do with it.
Im either going to trade it in for a desire z or overclock it to 1.3ghz and flash a stock rom
Also post what phone your going to. Mine is the one x

Oh my desire. I remember when you arrived. I remember when I saw your beautiful amoled screen for the first time, when my fellow AT&T employees were carrying around a backflip by Motorola. The oohs and ahhs never ceased. It's been so long that we have been together, but I must pass you on to someone who will take good care of you.
I'm sorry I dropped you that one time getting out of the car, but you held together and was built strong.
We have a few more weeks together and I promise you a good home.
Love you always and forever and will stay with your HTC family forever. I have decided on an HTC one s in grey, since you have spoiled me these many years with those amoled eyes of yours.
