Hey Guys,
Even thought there are a ton of great data usage widgets and applications out there. They all seem to loading extra monitoring upon the default data usage that is already collected. Such a waste of CPU. Do you guys know of any widget that just reads the usage from the default data usage collector instead of using its own collector?
I would appreciate any feedback, maybe I am misunderstanding how they work. I just assume they collect their own data as they all start at 0mb (with the option to adjust the monthly usage so far). I will know it reads from the current data log if it starts the data with the same as the default data usage screen shows.
Much appreciated.
anybody an idea for a widget like that?
Thanks!

Hey all,
Before my great Desire I owned a touch HD, with the same data plan: 3gb/month.
With that device I managed a maximum of about 3-400 MB/month, but averagely it was only 100-150. The things I used on it: Twitter update every 15 mins, fb every hour, e-mail every hour, weather hourly, some - quite a lot - browsing with opera, and some youtube in pub while drinking&sharing =)
With the desire, i realized that it's really much moore It's 19th, and i just passed 1gig, with quite the same use, only the gmail is push now.
So my question is: what background app can use so much data - or is it average with this phone - , or can you recommend me a data counter app that shows consumption app by app so i could check it very easily.
The main purpose of it is I want to change my cell rate to a better one, but it 'only' has 1gig of data.
Thx for your help
Cheers
it will be youtube, a few mins of youtube and you can easily early up nearly 100mb if the video is in HQ
3G Watchdog is very good for monitoring data usage. You can set custom alarms to warn you if you area approach your limit.
To find exactly WHAT is using your network though, in your dialer enter *#*#4636#*#*
This gains you access to a hidden menu. Select 'battery history' then from the top drop-down menu, select 'network usage'. This will show you exactly what has been chewing through your megs!

Thank you very much, this code is awesome =)
I use watchdog, but it doesn't count the usage app by app, this is perfect.
The item named "internet" is the most, so it can be browsing or youtube.
Glad to be of help!
If your 'internet' is using that much though (when you only used a fraction on your Touch HD doing the same things), I'd say there is something up. I've TRIED to pass my monthly limit but can't get close.
One thing that can cause your 'internet' browser to use a lot of data all the time, is having iGoogle as your home page. All the widgets you can put on your i-Google home page constantly update and keep your data connection active.
If you do not have i-Google, is there a page you are leaving it on that could also require constant updating? Sites with lots of cycling flash advertisment banners could do this.
I do not use task killers, as I have found they cause more problems than they solve, but try force-stopping the 'internet' app. Without having a task killer, go to Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, select the 'internet' app and press the 'Force Stop' button.
Try this for a day after each use of the internet (a hassle I know) and if it seems to help, perhaps putting on a basic task killer and only have it 'auto-kill' your internet app could save you some unwanted data bills!

It's not igoogle, but i figured out that i use eredmenyek.com what is the hungarian version of livescores.com (i am betting a lot ) and if i let my browser on that site, it can be able to communicate a lot - updates every minute, all the events
Thx again, i'll try to set google.hu when i finish browsing, it's sure that it won't communicate a bit then
Iwant to know how to delete data usage or how to adjust data usage cycle.
thx
To adjust the cycle you click on the line above the graph that says "Data usage cycle"... :/
can anyone shed some light on what exactly Mobile Data On/Off does? I turned Mobile Data off and yet i still can make/receive calls, send/rcv texts, access inet, access the market, receive vmail notifications.
Also, GB allowed to turn "background data" off, which really helped preserve battery life by hours. Is there any type of option for this in ICS. turning background data off had the effects of stopping vmail notifications, wouldnt allow access to the market while off, and basically blocked alot of apps constantly updating
thanks
It allows you to keep up with your data usage .....if on it will show how much you have used and warn u if your coming close to what you set as a limit ....would be great on a carrier that throttles or you only have say 5 gb ..... All you have to do is go into system settings and scroll down to accounts and sync under personal and turn it off whatever you don't want to sync

Well mobile data on/off should do just that. Toggle your mobile data on and off.
Setting a mobile data limit will limit the amount of data used when it's enabled.
Hi,
I need help with set mobile data from operator in Zooper. I have tariff from 16.th to 15.th every month, I want to zooper counted my mobile data monthly from 16.th.
I set #NTMTHM16# but it doesn´t work, mobile shows 200 MB and Zooper shows 5 MB.
How do I set it work?
thx
Nobody knows?
Hey mate,
I've tried the same thing you did and it works normally for me, it shows the same usage of MB as it does in Setting > Data usage, so I don't know what's the problem. Just be sure that you are writing it correctly in Zooper -> #NTMTHM16# . I'm using ZW PRO v2.42.
I have Zooper Pro 2.44 from GPlay. I will wait for new period of month (16th - 15th), because i set up it during the period.
Has anyone figure out what each character of these network data codes do?
#NTMTH1#
NT=network data
T/W/M=Total/Wifi/Mobile
T=???
Last characters could be:
H1/H7=past day / past 7 days
OR
M/MM/MM25=this month / this month? / since 25th
I can't get mine to match up either though. I have:
#NTMTH1# which seems to show today's data correctly for me "17MB" (matches android data usage)
#NTMTM25# shows "1083" but my data since 25th should be 88MB
#NTMTMM25# shows "118" but my data since 25th should be 88MB
Then the question of units, some show MB/KB which looks nice, but it makes progress bars misbehave since they can't differentiate KB and MB.
Anyone clear this all up?
My period begins on the 5th and I use #NTMTHM5# and it seems to do the job for me
Does it match the android settings - data usage screen?
For me right now, Data Usage shows 243MB used while Zooper widget shows 168MB.
It generally does match (or closely approximate) what it says in Data Usage, however I have noticed that it occasionally resets for reasons I have yet to figure out. I think it might be tied to some reset events (manual/battery pull/battery empty), but this is not consistent at all. If I keep a decent charge in it, or only change the battery before it gets below 5% I do not seem to get this data stat reset.
It might be that you had a similar reset of the data variable in Zooper. I would be curious to see if the gap between Zooper and Android remains consistent or widens.
I also noted that the MyATT app which shows data usage differs from the Android Data Usage and Zooper as well
Note: This is for the users who have Nova Launcher installed
My thought is you can create a dedicated icon in the Zooper Widget and go to 'tap on action' in the creator mode. after selecting that option go and find nova activities. and find the settings icon of your phone(i do not care about the model of the phone you might have.). in the nova action menu you'll see all of the apps that your phone currently have(including the system apps). also keep in mind that these icons are displayed in vertical alignment. and each icon is a drop down menu and when you select the icon you want the will be a sub icons and names of the particular actions. in the setting icon, find 'mobile data usage' or anything similar. and select that option. after that save your current settings. go back to the home screen and test it out for yourself. IF YOU DON'T SUCCEED TRY TRY TRY TRY TRY TRY AGAIN.
Hi,
I have a widget that displays
#NTMTH1# and #NTWTH1#
But no matter how much internet is used, these text field return 0B.
How does zooper obtain data usage from android and how can I debug this?
built in data usage in settings is still working.
What phone model are you on?
