Please forgive me if I miscatigotized this post, I'm a trucker and have been for many years, and my old Atlas is getting a bit warn out, Google maps is fine and all but areas with out service I can't get directions at all, and Co pilot is cool for the consumer class but I am not about to pay close to 150 for the truck class program so what I'm looking for is a GPS program that has maps on SD card and that can factor in hight and weight restrictions and if no app for evo then a good GPS itself I mean if I'm to pay 150 for some thing its not going to be some ones line of code to put on an already over priced phone get my point?

Google maps new feature let's you download and save the map of your route you want to take. And its use is for exactly what you described, losing reception.

+1 on the google maps cache, it's great if you can plan ahead.
Thanks for all you do by the way, people never realize that everything we consume/own has come off a truck at some point.

True, nor does it show low bridges, etc
Just searched for trucker friendly apps on the market, but nothing that shows routes, etc except the 150.00 CoPilot.
There is a 1.50 app called Low Clearances, though.

I really don't understand the issue with the CoPilot app? Is it expensive, yes... but it's replacing an entire DEVICE in your cab.
Also, you're paying for ongoing support and updates when clearances and routes change. It's not in the same ballpark as a $0.99 app that makes a *boing* sound when you shake your phone.
99 cent apps have been disastrous for the software community. There is an expectation that anything over 99 cents is a rip off now, but what folks don't understand is a 99 cent app may have 100 lines of code whereas something like a GPS system may have several million lines of code. It's entire orders of magnitude apart.
just my two penny's but once you buy the app (co-pilot or whatever) you own it. if the evo ever starts feeling old, breaks or gets to small you can load it up on a 10 incher if you want. try that with a stand alone GPS. once the hardware breaks your sol.

LMAO!!!!!
I have no problems with paying that much for CoPilot. If I ever get back on the road, and with the economy looking to take another nose dive, it's a real possibility, I'll be making the investment.
Well for me its just 150 bucks I could spend on my kids I know that its worth it I'm just saying for that much money I could have a qualcomm GPS system installed in my truck lol

I was at a mall today and right before the exit, I saw an advertisement for the GS3. What was unique about it was that it told you to hold up your own GS3 next to the one in the advertisement (as if you were beaming with it) to receive a free music download.
I wasn't so amazed by the technology as much as I was amazed that it worked on the first try... and it front of my iPhone-loving friends too!
Unfortunately the song I received was Some Nights by Fun., but still awesome.
Has anyone else encountered these ads?

The ad had an embedded NFC tag. You can buy tags and program them yourself to do stuff like that. The tags are cheap and the apps to program them are free.

Why wouldn't it work?
I am guessing you aren't using the stock battery. If you a buy a backup or larger battery, always make sure it says either in the product description or item itself that it is NFC enabled.

Because technology seems to never work for me when I'm trying to show it off to friends.
I figured I'd have to toggle a few settings or something, but I was happy with the immediate results. (Luckily I do keep NFC on, if I hadn't, I assume nothing would have happened.)
I want an app I can use to text off of my nexus 7 that uses the Bluetooth feature. I don't have WiFi so I can't use an app that uses a WiFi network sync and I don't wanna buy tablet talk. Any other apps like that?

Actually their anti piracy replies were quite on point. How would you feel if you were the developer of the app and everybody just stole it from you instead of paying for your hard work? Bottom line piracy is WRONG.

the rules aren't the problem....first the suggestion to actually go pirate an app (WTF are you thinking even saying that on xda)
then the arguing about "can't afford to pay" "visa card" etc etc....it applies to everyone at the end of the day not just people arguing the right point...but also the person suggesting that idea out loud over the forum

Peeps want to put their 2 feet in, the OP has the answer now job done, every bodies circumstances are different, mentioning how easy it is to get a gift card, top up credit card or whatever is relevant only to the person that suggests it.
Some countries don't accept payment, some won't allow you to buy, and for the record....I pay my way, but if I never had any money and need something, I'll blatantly take it. Don't have a problem mentioning that, but apps are 2 a penny, if there is a free alternative get one with ads.

Considering that the OS has been around for a bit over a week I'm amazed at how many apps ARE compatible.
If you have mission critical stuff, by all means go back to or stay with 4.2.x until the specific developer updates.
Otherwise enjoy the new OS and be patient. The good Devs are on it...

Well worth it being without a few apps for awhile.
This is the price we pay for being the very first to get these updates. I don't mind it myself but for those that are bothered just wait for a free weeks before upgrading next time to give the app devs time to catch up.
