Please forgive me if I miscatigotized this post, I'm a trucker and have been for many years, and my old Atlas is getting a bit warn out, Google maps is fine and all but areas with out service I can't get directions at all, and Co pilot is cool for the consumer class but I am not about to pay close to 150 for the truck class program so what I'm looking for is a GPS program that has maps on SD card and that can factor in hight and weight restrictions and if no app for evo then a good GPS itself I mean if I'm to pay 150 for some thing its not going to be some ones line of code to put on an already over priced phone get my point?

Google maps new feature let's you download and save the map of your route you want to take. And its use is for exactly what you described, losing reception.

+1 on the google maps cache, it's great if you can plan ahead.
Thanks for all you do by the way, people never realize that everything we consume/own has come off a truck at some point.

True, nor does it show low bridges, etc
Just searched for trucker friendly apps on the market, but nothing that shows routes, etc except the 150.00 CoPilot.
There is a 1.50 app called Low Clearances, though.

I really don't understand the issue with the CoPilot app? Is it expensive, yes... but it's replacing an entire DEVICE in your cab.
Also, you're paying for ongoing support and updates when clearances and routes change. It's not in the same ballpark as a $0.99 app that makes a *boing* sound when you shake your phone.
99 cent apps have been disastrous for the software community. There is an expectation that anything over 99 cents is a rip off now, but what folks don't understand is a 99 cent app may have 100 lines of code whereas something like a GPS system may have several million lines of code. It's entire orders of magnitude apart.
just my two penny's but once you buy the app (co-pilot or whatever) you own it. if the evo ever starts feeling old, breaks or gets to small you can load it up on a 10 incher if you want. try that with a stand alone GPS. once the hardware breaks your sol.

I have no problems with paying that much for CoPilot. If I ever get back on the road, and with the economy looking to take another nose dive, it's a real possibility, I'll be making the investment.

Being that I love me some McDonald's, I really love the teeny weeny chance of winning something for eating what I'm already going to eat. Therefore I love when October rolls around and McDonald's does their Monopoly promotion. It would be cool if there were an app that I could enter which properties I own, and it keep track of them. It would be even cooler if it was made by McDonald's, but it looks like they missed the boat on this one. Probably wouldn't be too hard for someone to make, but probably not worth it since it's only good for a month or so. Anyone care to try?
I work at one of the Regional offices. I will suggest this to my Marketing people as something that would get people excited for next year. I appreciate you supporting McDonalds so please send me a message with your name and address and I might be able to send you something to show my appreciation.

So apparently something I didn't know was that the market changed the refund tikme, while I'm all for giving the devs of apps the money they deserve when they make an app, but if we download an app and it works fine first 30 minutes but gives you issues after we have know way of getting our money back

That would be a good idea. I don't like the 15 min refund either. Oh well just make sure you hurry and try it out.
I wish they would have informed us. If they did well I missed it. Problem is I bought widget locker. And after using it I didn't like what it did to my phone so I went to go say nevermind I don't want it , couldn't refund so now I'm stuck with it. Meh guess its buyer beware now.
Nothing against devs but I thought that a market is aimed at customers not devs.

my galaxy s ii was stolen today at school and i was wondering if they will give me a new phone for free or will i have to pay full price again for a new one, I have insurance. Or can they like use the Satellite to track the phone down so they can give it back to me?
you will have to pay the deductible which is like $140 or something like that...
if you have the higher insurance it has remote tracking...i have never seen anyone go that route though and i would imagine the chances of recovering it are slim to none
If you call your number 69 times the phone will self combustion, causing severe 3rd degree Burns to the thief. Simply wait at the local ER and take the next burn victim to your local authorities.

the good thing about tracking through the tmobile insurance way is that they do it on their end right? its not reliant on an app that you downloaded...but i doubt that they will recover it though..its probably more if you left it somewhere, they could remind you of the area you were in or something
ive never used that method so im just guessing here

Sorry for the shameless self promotion. But my Security app Root Defense was developed on the Epic 4G touch and unlike any other security app out there, it will allow you to continue to track your phone even if it gets wiped or a hard-reset by a thief.
It's almost impossible to lose your phone and it's completely free. You can subscribe if wanted for additional logging goodies.
It requires that you have a rooted phone (as most people have on XDA)
Please try it out and rate and comment on Google Play if you like it.
The Google Play page can be found here:

Yeah, Cerberus was a program created after ours that has many of the same features. Even including the 5 licenses for the price of one.
Root Defense comes with many many more features though and no user interface on the phone.
Basically its still free but with more features and a stealthier install.
Also ours shows the existing data of logs and location from before a phone went missing so you aren't in the dark when your device is off

Root defense also is free and survives wipes and all the features the $4 a month is only if you wish to keep the logging features. All actually security features are free and always will be.
One of the major differences if the our free edition vs Cerberus is that our free version also keeps track of the last known coordinates.
What this means is that if your phone was stolen or lost and was either turned off or ran out of battery. Our product would show you where it last was and when it was there. Cerberus won't be able to show you anything as it needs to connect to the device each time to read data.
This is true of most fee or one-time fee programs because that's how they can afford it. In order to be helpful to people off-line, you need to store the data in a database which will quickly incur cost to developers (especially storing MMS messages.)
Anyway, different stroke for different folks. But keep in mind that after the trial ends, you still have (any always will have) all the free version features.
New version just released, check our main thread for details.
