How can I know if my phone is branded by carrier? I received a new phone because old was broken it was on tele2, new one I got from repair shop not the tele2 store. If they gave me unbranded how can now. Can't put another sim cause noone has micro sim to borough.

If you have all sorts of carrier bloatware then you have a branded phone.

Any pre installed apps? carrier start-up/shutdown screen? You can also try downloading the "CID Getter" from Google Play to see what your CID is... if it begins with HTCxxxx then it should be unbranded, try it and let us know
Nothing but I didn't have any on the first one either, and it was bought on tele2 prepaid.

Sounds good so far, try downloading "CID Getter" from Google Play and check your CID, mine is unbranded and my CID is "HTC__001"
P.S Once you open "CID Getter" your CID is shown in red at the top, it's not in the list
It says HTC_032
That would unbranded?

Well the topic is about the Desire and how to get it but I was not sure which forum to put it in so posted it here.
Well my Brother is moving to London for 2 years. Now he has his N95 (unlocked) which he would like to continue using as he has his paid apps installed on it and stuff.
Now he's getting a HTC Desire on contract. So If he uses the Contract Sim in his N95 and sends back the Desire to me here in India, I could unlock it and use it with any data carrier here in India right?
Yes you could unlock / debrand the Desire and use it on another network.

He will be either on T Mobile or Vodafone
The network won't care right even if he's using his contract sim in his other unlocked phone?

Well I use vodafone here and as of yet there is no 3G so it might not make a differrnce. Any idea what 3G band is used in India though?

Oh and one more thing.
Some guy on tech enclave was saying that if you unlock your phone using the unlock code the phone will once again get locked after I update my phone software to Froyo.
Is that true? I thought this only happened in iPhones? If it's true what are my alternative means of unlocking?
Thank you everyone
Simply re use the same unlock code you originally used to unlock the phone and you'll be fine.

That would work right? Or will they not let you re use the same code?
It worked for me when my phone was re locked after debranding, its worked for others on here too.

Could you tell me what site you or others used for unlocking the phone from which you could re use the key?
Anyone know How much would it cost in customs to get a Desire from the UK to India?
Hi,
I'm on the German O2, but I bought the phone from an eBay guy who had in turn bought it from T-Mobile Germany. The only sign of T-Mobile on the phone is the logo during boot. It is not SIM-locked and neither has any hardware branding.
Should I be able to see the update?
Probably not. It shows the T-Mobile screen when booting which means it is branded.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll probably root my current version and then install the rooted update from this thread anyway:

Does it have the Vodafone logo on boot up? If not it's unbranded (which I believe Phones4U stock now, CPW definitely do)
Cheers man il check now

The other way is if it's running x.xx.401.x then it's unbranded
my p4u HOX is unbranded and carrier unlocked.
I know that some branded phones get the updates when the provider decides to , but what if I got my HoX from a 3rd party store and sim unlocked if it matters?
When will I get the new ota?

if the phone is unbranded you will get the OTA as soon as HTC push it out in your locale

There is a CID number in each phone. Each OTA or RUU includes CID number checks to determine if it applies to your phone.
You can use CID Getter to determine your CID number.
And see this post for a list of known CID numbers.

So I guess HTC thinks I'm from Germany as my cid is HTC 102.
Anyone knows if Germany gets the ota first/last?

best way to know is by visiting here my friend. no one really knows when HTC releases the OTA...if you see in the general section in the One X forum saying new OTA update is here then you know you will have it asap since you are unbranded and unlocked
i have HTC__102. witch RUU do i need to go back to stock?
I was following a guide on how to upgrade my HBoot and it said I need to download the correct firmware for my phone, and for that i need to look at me cid. My cid is currently 11111111 and there for im not sure what firmware I need to download. How can i know what my original cid was or if someone could help me update my cid. My phone is a HTC One x AT&T.
Wrong forum. Your device is actually the HTC One XL. The XL is the dual core LTE version.
