Headphone Sound Issue on Cm9 beta 1 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

After flashing the second most recent nightly, the sound coming through the headphones has been very... off. From the sound of it, lead and backing vocals on all of my songs are switched when it comes to loudness, regardless of audio player app. I've tried the headphones on my nexus tablet and they sound fine. Also, when I plug my phone into my car's audio system through a cassette to 3.5 jack converter, it sounds fine. Any ideas?

Have you tired beta 1. If you don't have an issue on beta 1 stay on it. There's a reason they are nightlies. Things will be broken.

Just re flashed beta 1 last night and the sound works again. I was just wondering if anybody else was having this issue, or if my headphone out was damaged.

If you flashed beta 1 and it works fine now it was proably the nightly install not your headphone jack. Nightlies have issues usually. Some might not even boot up sometimes stick with beta 1 for more stability. Also I was on the beta for about a month and had not one issue with hooking up anything to the headphone jack, or anything to do with any sound at all.

The problem's started up again, on the beta this time. I've tested the headphones on another device, tested the device with other headphones, tested off device audio files, re flashed the beta, etc. As a matter of fact, these headphones originally worked with the phone.
I had been using the beats mod from ...Awesome... When I flashed the nightly for the first time, this carried over, then the audio messed up. When I re flashed the beta, it got rid of the beats mod, which I just reinstalled. The only test I haven't made is a clean reinstall, which I'll try later if nothing works.
It seems to be a compatibility between the phone itself and these specific headphones, which, of course, sounds ridiculous. They're mic1 skull candies, and the only difference between them and the other headphones I've tried is that the ones that don't work have the thin gold colored plating.
I've pretty much just resigned myself to listening to music on my nexus, but if anybody had any suggestions, I'd be happy to try them. You know. For science.

[Q] Bluetooth with Aux Cable

I saw that this had been asked once before, but no suitable answers were given unfortunately. On my old Evo, I could play music through my stereo via aux cable, and the phone would switch to Bluetooth for calls. This meant cutting the music, and transferring to both the mic and earpiece for audio omy bluetooth.
Currently, the audio on my ET4G doesn't transfer to the bluetooth headset, but instead comes out of my car speakers. Any workarounds to get the call pushed to Bluetooth when it comes in, or am I stuck just unplugging the 3.5 mm jack?
For your info, I'm currently rooted and running Starburst 1.98, although I'm willing to change that if it can help with the issue. Thanks!
I've been wondering about this too. Seems like you can still talk through the BT headset, but the person you are talking to comes through the speakers instead of the headset.
And I am still completely stock and not rooted BTW.

It works if using car mode

Hmm . . .audio still coming through speakers for me.
It works while i'm my car dock so I guess it won't work through the headphone jack

you guys got it figured out yet, got the same problem
and havent found a solution....
did a search within the ET4G forums with the term "headset" and this is the best result..

Music stops with slightest disturbance to headphone jack

When I rotate/disturb the headphone jack even slightly, the music player pauses. I'm guessing this is a hardware issue (I've tried with multiple headphones and the problem remains).
Is there an app to fix this? Is there a way to set the stock ICS player to not pause when the headphone gets disconnected and will this actually help? Is there a 3rd pary music player that can do this? Is there an alternate do-it-yourself hardware fix I can try? I really don't want to go through the hassle of giving it for warranty, since it would involve shipping to the UK but I desperately need a solution :/
Thanks
Well first tell what device do u use?

I'm.going to use my psychic powers and guess a galaxy nexus. And op, you're probably going to have to exchange it.

You might have a hardware defect with your headphone jack, but I just did a test.
If you have headphones in, and unplug them, it will pause the music. The same goes for bluetooth. Last night I was playing music over bluetooth to my cars sterio, and normally I would hit pause on the stereo before exiting the car, so my phone doesn't keep playing. But I had forgot to do that, and my phone didn't keep playing.
I think this is either a function of ICS or the Galaxy Nexus, as my previous phones would just keep playing when disconnecting from bluetooth.

Poweramp has an option for what happens when disconnecting. I think by default music pauses for all.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Thanks, will try the PowerAMP trial version, if it works out will spring for it. By the by, is there any decent free music player that can do this?
Almost every Android phone I've owned would automatically pause when removing the head phone jack. I listen in my car and just unplug it when I'm done.
Also I had some weirdness with headphone jacks before. For one they are open all the time and normally on top so lent just falls down in there. Fortunately the nexus is at the bottom so hopefully gravity helps this. Sometimes the jack you use doesn't make good contact. Supposedly you used different ones so I'd say that is eliminated. Probably just a bent pin or something. I wouldn't risk attempting to do this yourself.
I had one where it would think it was in headset mode all the time and would route all audio to it thus I would miss everything. I ended up doing a warranty exchange.

headphone jack problem twa_priv 8/31 build

Not sure if its just me but I have a problem on TWA_privs latest 8/31 build where when I plug in headphones It takes while for the kindle to read it for it to work. It just takes a while for my headphone sound to start working and also sometimes the sound just stops working randomly. This problem only occurs with anything connected to he headphone jack and the earphones/ headphones aren't the problem
Any one?
No one else with the same problem?

Not sure what you consider awhile. I am running the same rom and my headphones produce sound about 3 seconds after being plugged in. I haven't had any problems with the sound cutting out.

[Q] LI8 JB Leak and Bluetooth Audio?

Ok, I have tried several JB ROMs based on the LI8 leak and all of them have the same problem: bluetooth audio does not work for PowerAmp. I use PowerAmp for playing music because, lets face it, its one of the best players out there. However when I sync it to my car, music will not play through my car speaks even though I can still make and take phone calls. I tried Player Pro and bluetooth audio did work through my car after installing the DSP add on pack.
Now my question is this: is the LI8 leak missing certain bluetooth audio related files that make bluetooth audio work correclty or has it changed how it handles bluetooth audio streaming?
Try removing Musicfx.apk. reboot and try again.
If that works try using dsp manager as a replacement for musicfx.

I tried this and it still does not work. Could the LI8 leak be missing bluetooth files or using a different bluetooth profile?
I wanted jb but I had this problem with many ROMs. Then it started working but the BT audio would constantly disconnect and have crackle sounds as I played music. So I went over to aosp based ROM and all my problem just about went away. My only complain is that the s3 lacks in BT output power. I can't go 10 from my phone without music starting to skip. I used to go 20-25 ft with my lg phone and the HTC evo 4g lte.. I love my Bluetooth headsets but I'm giving them to my sister and I'm buying the Sol republic track HD. But you use it in car so it will be tougher for you

I discovered that problem a while ago when I switched to PowerAmp.
Good news is: Bluetooth audio DOES work, once you go around the problem.
The problem: PowerAmp on LI8 doesn't work with Direct Volume Control for Bluetooth.
The fix: Go into PowerAmp -->Settings-->Audio-->Advanced Tweaks-->Disable Direct Volume Control. Your bluetooth audio will now work.

Headphones crackling

Sorry if this is a repeat, I couldn't find this issue.
When I plug in the headphone jack there is no recognizable audio. Fiddling with the AUX cord plugged into the phone produces buzzing and popping.
I thought it might be a hardware problem so I tried a new ROM and then problem went away. So I figured it was just that ROM.
But the next time I plugged into the audio jack the problem had returned. I tried a couple more ROMs with an identical result. Basically after each fresh install it works for like one attempt.
Does anyone know how I can determine if this is a hardware issue or not (flash stock and unroot then try?) and then how to proceed from there?
Thanks!

Jedi X
SkyNote
LiquidSmooth
NOTEorious Prime

I would honestly return that phone for another one. That sounds like a hardware issue with the jack itself or the sound chip.
Hey I'm having just about the same problem as you are with my headphones.
Can you possibly try something for me, I am running a TW from nun hugger with the preus kernel. There is a app that comes with the room where you can make adjustments to the sound output. See if you can decrease output and if that takes away the crackling.

Ok so I'm running Jedi X. There is an app called Voodoo Sound which seems to have the same setting your talking about. I turned them down and nothing seemed different.
Next I turned them all the way down (headphone amplifier: -57db and volume limit: -57db)
Then I tried to play an audio book. This time I hear buzzing with each word. Its also clear now that you are in fact listening to someone speak (even though I still cant make anything out) before I would only hear a random buzz and would mostly hear silence in between the buzzing and crackling.
Just a couple q's:
Have you tried different headphones? Maybe a dual 3.5mm cord to some speakers?
Are you pushing the headphones in all the way? (I didn't my first time)
What type of headphones are you using?
Last, is the jack loose (wobly/free floating).
I have a pair of older samsung headphones that somehow got snagged and the wire was pulled partially apart on the inside. When I use them I have the same problem that you are describing. They also produce a lot of static electricity and shock my ears while using them lol.

Hey leptone,
I tried voodoo as well but if you've tried what Brad was mentioning about making sure your headphones weren't buggered
I would highly recommend trying the Presues kernel with any other rom just because saber and Jedi are built together.
Try skynote or the Alliance rom (novella dos), or any other TW rom.
Now I'm not saying anything against the Jedi dev. I ran his rom on my phone for a week before I saw that Sean was developing for this phone, and even then I had saber as my kernel of choice. It's just the fact that even though we all run the same phone and hardware there are slight variations and to find the best setup you will have to put some effort in to try the combinations.
