Music stops with slightest disturbance to headphone jack - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

When I rotate/disturb the headphone jack even slightly, the music player pauses. I'm guessing this is a hardware issue (I've tried with multiple headphones and the problem remains).
Is there an app to fix this? Is there a way to set the stock ICS player to not pause when the headphone gets disconnected and will this actually help? Is there a 3rd pary music player that can do this? Is there an alternate do-it-yourself hardware fix I can try? I really don't want to go through the hassle of giving it for warranty, since it would involve shipping to the UK but I desperately need a solution :/
Thanks

Well first tell what device do u use?

I'm.going to use my psychic powers and guess a galaxy nexus. And op, you're probably going to have to exchange it.

You might have a hardware defect with your headphone jack, but I just did a test.
If you have headphones in, and unplug them, it will pause the music. The same goes for bluetooth. Last night I was playing music over bluetooth to my cars sterio, and normally I would hit pause on the stereo before exiting the car, so my phone doesn't keep playing. But I had forgot to do that, and my phone didn't keep playing.
I think this is either a function of ICS or the Galaxy Nexus, as my previous phones would just keep playing when disconnecting from bluetooth.

Poweramp has an option for what happens when disconnecting. I think by default music pauses for all.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Thanks, will try the PowerAMP trial version, if it works out will spring for it. By the by, is there any decent free music player that can do this?

Almost every Android phone I've owned would automatically pause when removing the head phone jack. I listen in my car and just unplug it when I'm done.
Also I had some weirdness with headphone jacks before. For one they are open all the time and normally on top so lent just falls down in there. Fortunately the nexus is at the bottom so hopefully gravity helps this. Sometimes the jack you use doesn't make good contact. Supposedly you used different ones so I'd say that is eliminated. Probably just a bent pin or something. I wouldn't risk attempting to do this yourself.
I had one where it would think it was in headset mode all the time and would route all audio to it thus I would miss everything. I ended up doing a warranty exchange.

Music Playback issues

Hi guys, long time since i post here (since the HTC Diamond)
Anyway, my question goes to those who use the default music player.
I have been experiencing some weird problems.
Sometimes when i start playing music it will start skipping the track ahead by itself and jumping to the next track.
I couldnt identify the problem.
Other day i installed "3" player to see if it would do the same, and it did.
Worse than that, if i fired up the default player, even tho the 3 player was off it would start itself and play musics too at the same time.
My Desire is standard, no modifications.
Anyone here had any problem like this ?
I have had no such problems with the HTC music player, i use it all the time with the AUX port in my car,
are you sure you are not touching the screen by mistake? because i noticed when you lock the device, you can still change tracks without unlocking, double edged thingy, its useful when ur in a car, but not so much if its in ur pocket
I would suggest you to remove your memory card, format it with cardreader (NOT FAST) and then put it back to Desire and again format it from your phone and try again.
NOTE: YOU'LL LOSE EVERYTING ON YOUR MEMORY CARD.
I have 16GB which I use with my Desire and I have not seen the problem you talk about here. And yes, I listed to lot of music.
Ok, thanks for the feedback guys.
But here is what i found out so far.
Tested lots of options with Wifi/GPS/Data on/off and it doesnt seem to be coming from there.
Now the tricky part is with the headphone.
Sometimes when i insert the headphone Sennheiser CX line the phone shows the HEADSET icon on the tray and it is when the glitch with the music playback starts.
Sometimes i insert the headphone and it detects correctly but after a few mins the headphone icon turns into a headset icon and the problem with the musics skipping restart.
I checked the 3.5mm jack and it is not loose, and i insert it well each time.
I have tried to kill all open apps before doing the test run and the same result appears randomly.
I could not trim down the problem yet but i will let you know.
PS.
I will try the format thing after a few more tests.
Thanks again..

As you see its a headphone and it is recognized as headset....odd.
Caught the issue on video.

Maybe a 3.5mm jack problem ?
Need more testing...
I cannot reproduce the problem every time....arghhh
I have exactly the same problem albeit with Google listen and the stock music player. Its definitely the 3.5mm socket. I can reproduce the problem each time with the male to male lead I have for the car. I'd really value a solution!!
Please, can someone else confirm if you have problem with the 3.5mm jack ?
Hey just tested with stock earphones (should give same results to everyone by not using my "own" so to speak)
No problem what so ever over here.
BTW, I've used my own in-ear earlier and never noticed anything of what you are describing back then as well.
Maybe you should start a poll?
I use a Bluetooth headset at work because I do not want to damage the phone in my pocket so the phone is on my tool box and "3" Cubed music app will start up when default music player is playing?
thanks for the feedback guys, i hope to hear from more ppl because if this is specific to a few devices i might return mine and request a new one.
I have the same problem with "3" starting automatically too.
But i thought it was related to the 3.5mm jack.
Hey, I have the same problem, my girlfriend with the same phone, also has this problem. I have tried a few other music apps, and they all seem to have issues, including the fact the HTC music player starts playing music by itself on top of it.
I will try and format the sd card twice and report back
Okay, when I use the HTC Headset, I cant skip/change tracks with the headset buttons, also no Pause/Play ... pressing Play results in skipping to the next track ... today it even called suddenly one of my contacts :\
When I use normal earphones I've got absolutely NO problems
I believe the problem doesnt come from the musci application but from the headphone/headset connected to the 3.5mm jack.
For me, if any headphone is inserted and it is recognized as headset, the music applications will go bananas.
I will wait a few more replies and a few days before go to the stor and complain about the issue.
Its definitely something to do with the 3.5mm jack, as i've been playing music for a while on the loudspeaker as a test and it works perfectly...
Is there really noone else having issues with this?
I've had similar results occasionally, all when the headset jack gets jostled. I'm pretty sure it just has bad contacts sometimes. Sucks, but I don't consider it phone-return-worthy.
I have had exactly the same issue as you recorded and described.. after that I pulled out the headset and tried to put it back in, but the phone didn't even recognized the headset at all! I had to turn the phone off and on to get the headset recognized again.. But the issue with the music player going berserk was exactly the same with jumping from number to number, so you're not alone..

No problem with the 3.5mm jack here, but I've seen users at other forums complaining of this.
Problems with third party players seem widespread. A few times I've had Tunewiki start playing when pressing play on the stock player.
BINGO !!!
So, here is the link to this other thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667240
I think this is the problem.
I have no idea what TRS is, but i am almost sure this is what is causing the issues with 3rd party headphones.
Can someone else check there and confirm that this could be the cause for the weird issue when the player go bananas and it identifies the headphone as a headset ?
I occasionally have these issues on the included stock HTC headset. It's true that TRS headphones may have inconsistent effectiveness in a TRRS jack, but it's not necessarily the sole cause of issues, at least.

[Q] Headphone Issues

I use my Desire HD for music playback and when using headphones I have strange problems.
I have used 3 different pairs of headphones with this phone spread over about 10 ish months. Each pair have headphones have been standard stereo headphones with no mic or in-line controls. The issue I get is something when I plug the headphones in they are recognized in the notification bar as headphones with mic (signified by the little icon) and other times just plain headphones which they are.
If they are recognized as having a mic, randomly while listening the phone will pause the music and ring the last called person in my call history.
I have no idea why they do this but it only happens when they are recognized as having a mic (which I'm 100% sure they don't). To get round this I unplug and plug them back in until they are recognized as just stereo headphones. This works for an hour or so of music playback until it will randomly recognize them as having a mic again and start calling someone.
As you can imagine this is VERY annoying.
Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it?
Thanks in Advance.
I think I had this problem before. But it occurs when I use the stock htc handsfree. I could hear static noise and my phone will start to call the last called person. I don't know how I solved it, but i guess it is related with my jack-in or the snd3254 dspmode configuration. I'm not sure though.

VZW Nexus headphone recognition - App for that?

Not sure where or what to search for on this issue but it's been killing me with my Nexus for the past few months.
Coming from a couple of HTC phones one thing I really liked about them, which might have been Sense feature, was the phone having two completely separate audio volumes one for when headphones were plugged in and another for when the phone was hooked up via Bluetooth.
My problem is I listen to music very low with headphones at work, then unplug them before getting into my truck, automatically hooking up to the Bluetooth to stream and the volume stays at the low headphone volume. To hear it over truck stereo I need to turn the phone BT volume all the way up. Fast forward to when I sit back down at work to listen to music, my headphone volume is back to the last BT volume or maxed out. Just a real annoyance and find it hard to believe this is the way Google designed it and has nothing in place when I'm having an off day and don't manually fix it before I listen to my headphones again and blast my eardrums like I did yesterday.
Is this how the Nexus should handle BT and Headphone volumes? Is there any kind of fix for this?
Thanks in advance

Bluetooth problem when streaming in car?

None of you guys have any issues with streaming audio music/pandora/google music on your phone to the car? My problem is getting worst and I cant stand it any longer. The music would skip constantly every few seconds making it unbearable. I checked google and few people has problems with it on androidcentral, im surprised no thread for it on here?
No issues here since device came out. Have a uconnect setup in my car and stream everything from my phones BT to the vehicle's BT. My old device did that often, had an older version of BT though I think? I've yet to have issues, sure maybe 1-2 times every week a song might skip a beat but not at all on the regular. If it's a regular occuranxe it could be a bad connection. I would then delete the profile and link from scratch the vehicle and phone's BT.
Also while listening and if it gets bad. Stop the BT connection, then reconnect. Sometimes a reconnection is better than your previous and skips go away. I just turn BT off on my device, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on and let the 2 connect. Try this and the above, those 2 methods should work if not one or the other.

I get static issues if someone calls me while I am listening to bluetooth audio, and then switch back to music. Usually switching to the radio and then back to bluetooth audio resolves this. Try making sure your settings in pairing options are set to allow data transfer between the device and your car. I initially could not even connect my device until I checked off that option.
I used to have the issue with HTC One M7 and Galaxy S4 in my Renault Medianav, but no such issues with the One M8,.
I can semi- validate this issue. I have three Bluetooth devices. My headset for phone calls will get some static if my M8 is also connected to my HTC Stereoclip, but goes away as soon as I'm out of range of the Stereoclip. Because of this, and the fact my Stereoclip runs on battery and often fails to disconnect after I leave car mode, I tried switching out my Stereoclip for the RocketFish Bluetooth Music Receiver.
Now, I don't get the static, but when streaming music through the RocketFish, it skips every 20-40 seconds. I've swapped out the RocketFish twice and have had the same issue each time.
Based on queries on the Android Revolution HD thread, the developers are saying it's a base issue and needs to be fixed by HTC.
I just find it odd that the Stereoclip will steam media without skipping, but third party hardware like the RocketFish does skip. Also, my headset doesn't get the aforementioned static issues with the RocketFish.
Also worth noting I have not had both the Stereoclip and RocketFish paired to my phone at the same time.

Just wanted to second this. Mine isn't that bad, but every so often (3-5 minutes) the music skips about 0.5 seconds. Have tried stopping my navigation app, putting the phone to sleep, and unplugging the charger. Nothing works so far.
Pretty sure it is not a pairing issue since this started the first time I paired my phone to the car stereo.
Needless to say, not happening when listening with headphones or speakers.
Any insight or updates would be very helpful. Thanks.
Have a cheap'ish Chinese double din headunit (Xtrons).
M8 connects fine to phone and music with no issues with calls or music

I have the same problem using a Sony Bluetooth Speaker BTX300.
It's really annoying. It happens with Deezer, Spotify or internal mp3. It does not happen on voice calls.
Maybe it's something related to the Bluetooth bitrate not handled correctly by device ?
Only happens to me in stock radio over bluetooth with the mylink system in the new chevys. No problem with my Kenwood head unit in my Cherokee though

On stock Bell ROM, pre camera/EPSM update, happened every minute in my 2011 Subaru WRX as well as my Motorola Buds. I flashed InsertCoin 2.4.0 and ElementX 0.10 today... no more skipping. Not sure which it was.
I'd had this issue before on my m7 with Pandora. Are you guys using adaway? If so, disable it and try again, it should go away

Hi guys,
Resurrecting this thread. I am having skipping/stuttering issues with my phone when streaming using Spotify over bluetooth A2DP.
I've tested this on 3 different bluetooth devices (Volvo, Belkin and another bluetooth speaker).
The problem is very annoying, once the screen goes off, music would slightly pause every 20-30 seconds.
This happens when using Spotify and TuneIn Radio.. so I'm pretty sure it's not an application problem.
Anyone else having the same problem? I'm running 4.4.3 - 2.07.980.2..
Also, I'm pretty sure this only started happening after the latest update from HTC.

I'm using an app that starts playing music as soon as I connect to my cars Bluetooth. Luckily this app also provides "wifi off on connect"
Gonna give this a try. Really hope this fixes the audio drops. Hate it.

So from one day with Wifi off I can definitely tell it doesn't drop audio on Bluetooth streaming anymore.
So turn your Wifi off to fix the m8 ?

Glad it works for you as well, this has fixed the problem for me most of the time. I use the Trigger app to turn off wifi when bluetooth connects.
On another issue which I don't think is related to the above, on my Volvo at random times, I still have severe stuttering issues to the point that you almost can't tell what music is playing. I've been having this since day 1 with the M8 and not from recent fw upgrade as above. I'm not sure whether this is Spotify or the bluetooth stack tho.
Nevertheless, any of the blueooth issues were something I never experienced with Samsung Galaxy S3, Xperia Z or any other phones. HTC!!, are you listening!?!
rBlink
I have the same problems connecting to my Arcam rBlink at home with my M8. Music dropouts every 20-30 secs. Streaming from my sons M7 is flawlessly.
Stopping Wifi makes it slightly better but is no option since I want to use spotify over wifi.
Could it be a problem with a low bit rate for bluetooth audio?
Arcam gives the advice to increase it for OS X as high as 58.
I am also getting this issue as of late....
I'm using an unrooted Sprint M8 HK phone.
My problem is audio drop out (0.5 sec) constantly. Doesn't make a difference over BlueTooth or the speakers.
It appears that it is related to the phone accessing something during playback which causes the dropout.
It does it when streaming over wif or data... it even does it with audio that I have downloaded to my SD card...
I have uninstalled everything back to when I thought the issues started with no luck.
Anyone with any ideas? I see where some have had this issue and even a hard reset (wipe) didn't solve it.
This doesn't occur on my Verizon M8 which has almost the identical app's installed.

I have an international version M8, bluetooth skips randomly when streaming on car bluetooth and to my sony srs X9 speaker. It seems to happen only with continuos feeds. Mi cousin told me the problem could be that bt device is searching at all times for other devices but since there is no option to stop search i can't be sure.

Car Audio Issues BT Audio + Aux Cable

I'm having a lot of issues with playing music in my car. I drive 1.5 hours a day to work and I really want to be able to listen to music through my phone but it's getting increasingly frustrating.
I have a D855K
Android version 5.0
Kernel version 3.4.0
Software V20f-505-01
I used to have a Samsung S2 and I'd have it connected via bluetooth to my car head unit which is a Sony WXGT90BT . This worked fine with my S2. With my G3 I've had a lot of issues. The audio will cut out randomly, sometimes this will happen every 5-10 seconds, and sometimes it will be once a minute or so. It usually cuts out for 1 second, but it's very frustrating when the music is constantly being interrupted.
I decided to try using an aux cable instead of bluetooth, but there were even more problems with this. The slightest bump on the road would cause the cable to move and open up Voice Mate. I tried disabling it under apps, but it would still pop up so I rooted my phone, bought Titanium Backup and froze the app. This stopped Voice Mate from popping up, but now whenever the cable moves it skips the track, going to the next one or goes back a track or pauses the music. Sometimes it opens up Google Voice Dialer, or Google Voice Search. I have none of these issues with earphones. I have also tried multiple aux cables all with the same issues.
I should also mention that I'm using Power Amp Pro as my music player. This is the same one I had on my S2. I'm not sure how it's changing songs when the aux cable is moved.
I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, so I thought I'd check here first before sending my phone away. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bluetooth issues are fixed in 20H firmware. D855 firmware should be compatible with D855K, though i don't know for sure.
Jack being detected as handsfree is an unfixable hardware issue, it stems from LG's jack detection algorithm. I guess the most we can do is mod the software so it always thinks that only headphones are plugged in...
Thanks for the reply.
Since it's rooted I can try updating to 20H to see if it fixes the bluetooth issues.
As for the Jack, I don't like the sound of unfixable... If I can get bluetooth working though then it doesn't matter too much. The longer the phone is out the closer we'll be to getting a fix, so hopefully it does eventually get fixed.
