hi.
I want to post my experience with rear camera module replacing one HOX S720e,
Warning!!!: never touch the camera lens!! never try to clean it whit spirit, or alcohol, never use cleaning tools for glasses! its just make it worst...
i bought one camera module for my hox from this site:
http://rounded.com/htc-one-x-g23-s720e-camera-module-back-rear-camera-module-spare-part-23fp.html
This camera version is 23FP,
http://rounded.com/images/detailed/..._camera_module_achterzijde_onderdeel_23FP.png
After i install it to my hox, i have auto focus issus, the macro is relativli good but far objects is imposible to focus,
i try diffrent camera apps with manual focusing but dont help, try to reflash stock rom, try to flash CM9, 10 not help,
so i opened the hox again to comper the camera modules and my camera is 23RP version,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7h1qschrne8yfs8/Bez názvu.jpg
when start to finde the right version for me i finde some diffrent version of camera modules for example 23AP
http://www.etradesupply.com/catalog/product/gallery/id/12055/image/134034/
and 1D5 (1D5 is USA model whit snapdragon s4)
So if somebody need to replace the camera module first finde your version after that buy the right,
if somebody finde the htc one x s720e 23RP camera module for sell on internet please post me the link here... because i can't find it..
good luck for all and i believe its save your money when you read this thread
so u bought the wrong module and ur camera acted funny
so whats up with the spirit and alcohol?

i bought the right module.. .becouse its for s720e gs23 and this is my model...but its not working properly... camera cant focus far objects and make blur images...
maybe its newer module and its incompatible with my HT24 hox version... or i dont knwo where are the problems
but i think to problem can be in the lens protector on the back cover... becouse if i put my eywear before camera its start focusing and everytihng is sharpness... it can be same problem that people have whit theyr eye when use eywear
I have more or less the same problem.. I have a camera module coded 23EP and I bought a camera replacement coded 23AP by etradesupply.com, but this one is not working properly.. it can't focus near object, only far object and not auto focus.. it seems to have infinite focus..
I wrote to rounded.com and they say to me that the 23FP that they sell, is suitable for my phone because they have only original parts..
What is your suggest?
Inviato dal mio HTC One X con Tapatalk 2
I cleaned my camera modul and lense with cleaner that contained alcohol and it made my pics better, so if you do it right, there's no problem
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
I usually just clean mine off with a glasses cloth..
It isn't a problem of lens.. i've the same problem without the entire back cover and with the lens cleaned.. i think that is a compatibility problem.. i wrote also to etradesupply.com, and i'm waiting their answer..

Hi, did you solve your problem?
When the camera can't focus, is possible to record a movie without lag?
The part bought from rounded.com work properly?
When you focus on a subject, do you hear a noise?
Thanks..
I clean my camera almost everyday because i hate using covers and things like that.I've never used i will never use a cover, and so far i have no problems with it.My advice is to clean it with wed napkins, they do the job just well.
I have all this problems because i had a broke camera and i had to replace with a new one.. But it doesn't work from new..
This question is for everyone, because i didn't have a working camera..
When you focus on a subject, do you hear a noise?
Yeah, there is a noise. Also there is a noise when you enter the Camera app and exit the Camera app,it's kinda like a short .....bump so to say.

Hello, I've found ARTEMIS service manual, and I'm wondering if it's possible to replace camera module with a better one (i.e. CCD and more and 2 Mpx).
To me, Artemis's camera is one of the very few bad features about it.
What do you think?
Yeah I would be interested in that one too. Orbit's camera is one of the worst I ever had in a phone.
It would be great, but its probably easier to change a Nokia 95 (with a 5 MP lens) into a windows mobile device and put a touch screen on it!
I think that Artemis camera module (as for other HTC devices) is manufactured by Liteon.
It should be one of those modules listed here:
http://www.liteon-semi.com/_en/03_cmos/02_about.php?ID=3
It doesn't seem to me too much difficoult to replace the camera module, reading the service manual (btw, if you are interessed, you can get it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/61381502/Artemis_SM_AX03__0110.pdf ).
The main problem is to find a 3 or more Mpx module that has the same pin-out and is compatible
(but maybe the ones from liteon use all the same system).
Also software drivers could be an issue.
It's a pity, since those modules seems to be quite inexpensive, compared to the device price.
For example, this one:
http://tinyurl.com/2zw7kz
is a liteon CMOS Camera module used by HTC universal (1.3 Mpx) and it's just about 26$
could i have this service paper?
the RS link isnt working

I' m also interested in the service manual although the guy I know at the service point will not be pleased to discover I have found out the secret of his "power".
OK, I don't know if my hox is faulty or this is a bug in all of them,
so I ask,
How close can you focus the camera on your hox ?
On my device I can't focus less then 0.5-0.7 meters
and that seems odd couse my old nokia could take
great pictures from even 10cm ...
Well I can easily takes pictures of spiders and stuff like that, pretty close.

can you show me?
Mine just get blurry and unfocused
(and yes, I use MACRO mode)
I've managed to take a picture of a sushi menu from about 5-7 inches away from the surface? I'm a freak for properly focused images, so was pretty happy that with the JB update, the camera seems to be able to focus closer than on ICS.

AGRRRR!
So Why can't I?
It's possible, but the camera sometimes seems to go nuts and not focus properly, focusing the background and not the thing you want to take the pic of. Even with touch to focus ^.^

Does all of your HOXs has this foucus problem?
I have completely surrendered to the idea of taking macro pictures. My HOX just doesn't do it. So I am with you.

For Macro there is a Macro mode given in the camera scenes, beside that after JB update this has been fixed, and focus is like a charm + touch to focus nd shoot is also added. you'll simply love your camera
is it normal sometimes freeze?

Every phone I've had has taken good close pictures without a macro mode. But ok, I put macro mode on and still it can't focus well. I just did a test tonight...took a EVO 4G, a one s and my HOX and they all took a great picture of the ingredients of my coke. My HOX had it all blurry, even in Macro mode. It sucks.

In the LGCamera app, there is a macro focus option which will lock the focus to minimum distance.

Was on purpose, the leaf is not parallel to the phone only half of it is focused. Let me search another pic that looks better.
But is still tricky, it does not always focus perfectly in Macro.. and when it doesn't work I just close the camera app and try again.

Doesn't that make you MAD ?!
Parsenly, I got the phone because I heard of it's great Camera,
and not having a MACRO mode makes me get angry of HTC.
What were they thinking!? I can't even use it to "scan" a writing
on a note or recite

It does makes me angry, because I got specifically the HOX for the Quad-core, 32GB, great screen and camera...Although, I works like charm, and I got JB already, the camera is disappointing. I take pictures everyday since I manage social networks and my phone isn't living the expectations. I need to see if it can be repaired somehow and how much would it cost me.

I believe it must be a bug in software ...
When I try to focus on something close, the phone
IS ABLE to get focus for a moment and then losses it.
(Can't lock the focus)
Any chance it's fixable by some software update?
Hello, everybody i have swaped the camera modul from HTC DESIRE HD to HTC DESIRE, it fits perfectly in the SOC.
take a look the pictures. So i have not tested this but perhaps shold someone :laugh: i am interested if will work but maybe is no software for this sh..t (sorry 4 my english, sem iz sLOVEnije)
Nice one, creative.. Probably need the drivers and camera-code from hd rom..
Greetz
keep us posted
Did the stock HTC Desire camera drivers recognise the features of the HD camera?
Wie. Youre creazy :banghead:
No no. Realy its Cool. Show us photo if thats work fine.
--------------------------------
Not sure why'd you'd do this - unless the HD was borked perhaps?
If I had both I'd probably just use the DHD
Very good idea! A Desire HD camera module costs 8 pounds if you google for "desire hd camera module".
If I could upgrade my camera in my old desire, I'd be very happy
(BTW replacing the kernel module on /system should not be too hard in any ROM; the rest of the software stack would probably work fine)
Good idea and the camera modules fit but in the photos it dusnt show how it is when its fully asembled?? Maybe another ss with the device is fully asembled
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
So,work or not ?

Battery life.
Does it work, man?!
Camera is the one feature that utterly sucks in desire, would really like to see it replaced, if the hardware fits together, would the software recognize it?
You would need to port the desire hd camera drivers from DHD kernel to Bravo kernel before it would even work alot of work for just 3 extra MP not worth it
Good job
Nice, interesting, post any photo with 8MP camera...:fingers-crossed:

I think the quality of the lens is a lot better, it's not just the 3MP. It would be great to get this to work to make a comparison

No1 will bother with it because it requires porting kernel drivers system changes will have to be made and so on. and tbh the desire WON'T accept the camera module anyway because it was not made for the Desire. Try but i know it will fail but no harm in trying anyway If you guys REALLY want me to ill port the DHD camera drivers into the desire kernel so you can try it out just let me know thanks x

Impossibles in the past are easy possibles today, I think that if the module connections are the same, probably there is no limitations to the device accepting it. The only limitation here is probably how the kernel will interface with the camera but we have ported roms from other devices (with other camera models and specs) and our camera works with the modified kernels/drivers. I'm really curious about it, so it would be nice to test it.

It may have the same connectors but that's not to say it will work when fitted. Anything could happen. Personally i know it wont work but if you wish to test it anyway then go ahead. When you confirmed to me you have fitted the new camera module into the device let me know if it does not work which i know it wont PM me ill port the drivers to the kernel so you can be satisfied that it wont work thanks x

Hi all.
my oneplus 3 got serious camera issue. hardware related. it wont focus well. sometimes it does sometimes it wont. i even blamed a custom rom for this. but now that i wend back to stock OOS still the problem remains.
My OP3 had a history where my son accidentally dropped it and really cost me a new screen replacement. since then i noticed the camera issue. could be the OIS mechanism that's faulty. dont really know.
i want to replace the camera module. i searched online and found the specific module for like 5$. i also found a caamera module for OnePlus 3T for the same price.
my question is, is it possible to install a Oneplus3T camera module on my Oneplus3? i know it has a slight quality bump that's why im considering. but does it fit? or will it work? thanks

Well if we ain't talking about the selfie cam. Then it should work since the back camera is exactly the same. Now I doubt it is an original part but you can always try for that $5..

They are talking about the selfie camera, that one went from 8 to 16mp. The rear camera didn't change. Also the selfie camera does not have stabilization.
Im wondering if the camera from the Google Pixel could be installed in the G4. The physical camera, not the software, well the software too.....
I have seen that its possible to instal the kdz for the google camera w AI. I have seen the quality of photos the pixel can make, I have tried (ok Im trying) to install the G4 camera in my G3, but it requires some chassis mods).
I have read all I can about the cameras in the Pixel, and the G4. i think they are both made by sony.
they look the same (comparing pictures of products for sale on ebay)
could one just pop out the stock camera and install the other? Is there some kind of system check that is performed before boot?
why or why not?
cheers
alan
It could work if connection are the same but it's not so easy. Anyway after changing the camera you'll need also a Rom supporting it with correct "Drivers" or you'll have only a bunch of errors XD
Someone reached to do camera swap in really similar phones.
