The GPS on the S3 is very, very good since it utilizes GLONASS technology. How's the GPS on the Note 2 perform? Screenshots if you please!

For me practically instant. I'm in london uk. Superb. Slightly faster than my s3
Works like a charm much faster and accurate compared to my i9000
Yep, it finds you within a couple of seconds instead of minutes as it usually is without GLONASS and the accuracy, well it pinpointed my location to within 4 meters which i think is pretty good.

The gps in mine is way worse than the one on note 1.

Finds the satelites quick and locks on really fast
And the accuracy is 4 meters
I really hope so my GPS on the Sprint GS 2 has been a complete bust...
Thanks for the replies guys. Anyone care to give us a screenshot or two from GPS Status or GPS Test?

I had literally just gotten the phone and it was the first time I used GPS.
Coming from a G2, so I may be out of touch, but this thing gets a lock within seconds on the 2nd floor of a twelve storey building. Is this just standard now?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I wonder how many of these results that are "off" are a result of A-GPS (using wireless towers to triangulate your position (before your phone gets GPS/GLOSNAS lock)

It is better than most dedicated gps recivers ! It is just awesome. It has a dedicated chip, not only assisted gps.
I can't get a signal in this heavily reinforced building, so I hold the phone outside the window for 5 seconds and it gets 12 strong signals. That's insane

It must be that it is only constantly scanning when on that settings page, because it isn't a big drain on battery.
I notice it is also scanning for wifi even though im completly connected, but im still getting great battery use out of it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I posted this same issue to the Sprint forum and a tech responded that he will add it to the bug list for the next MR as he could see it too. Not sure if is scanning when not on the settings page, but at any rate, it seems like it should stop scanning if it has a hold of a network.
How do you check for this? May be relevant in my case...
Note, i posted this in the battery life thread - suspecting a wifi issue of some sort:

I had to plug it in around 8:30 as you can see.
My wifi was on all day and connected, since I didn't leave the house.
I've changed the wifi sleep setting today, so we'll see if that makes a change.
The only other thing I changed yesterday was from the stock wind weather live wallpaper to a koi Pond live wallpaper, good reviews and no mention of battery issues that I saw).
I'm suspecting the wifi but interested to hear any "eureka" discoveries.
Other days, i'm at work fairly long hours and had wifi off most of the day at least, and thought my battery life has been good... Still 50% or 60% left at 8 or 9 pm.

Edit:
Note how the precipitous battery drop corresponds to when wifi was turned on in the morning.
I can't believe this would be simply coincidental.
I have that issue to, but great battery life. My biggest concern is horrible 3g speeds. My wifes evo does not have this issue.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
I noticed the same problem. I swear it also increases my Android OS usage. I get about 12 hours of battery life with 2 days of sample size.

Funny how the WiFi radio can't even pull in that kind of data *no matter the connection)
My RAZR LTE never got over 24, so this is rather impressive. Although, my RAZR gets much better signal, which gives it a higher average performance over the Nexus.
My experience so far:
DFW (Arlington really) ...and it varies wildly from street to the next but this was
the best I could get in Arlington. Mostly it was 10-15 DL and 1 - 5 UL
Houston:
It's been great every where I go
wow...just WOW
Is anyone anywhere near you?
You'd have to literally be in an area alone to get that kind of speed!
The best so far in Houston was when I had the Rezound:
The GN only gets about 30-35 in the same location
WOW - 52 Meg on a phone... Remember 256k dial up. We have come along way
I miss T-Mobile so much....
Best for me
This is the best I've gotten so far. Also in Houston area.
Hm mines is only 9GB D/L here in New York.

I am at 30% after 12 hours with 1 hour screen on, 15 min talk and 1 hour of streaming xm on the stock battery. Lte was on all day. On my 3rd charge cycle. Still have the extended battery to run and see how it performs. And there is the option of a uv kernel, it can only get better!
Yes it eats more battery than the gsm, but I can make it all day and have signal in remote areas!

personally, i prefer iGo. Sygic is good but when roaming it is a pain as it keeps asking for a connection.
Of course it's asking for a connection, it has anything igo has plus some more features like Google Local Search who needs an Internet connection. You can use them or not, your choice.
If you think that missing features are a bonus you should buy a iPhone, the only platform where people are happy if their phones can't do things that other phones can do and are even grateful for it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Consider that myname70 may be living in a country where iGo's map providers are good and the others worthless. Which is the situation I am in, for example.
As for compatibility with SIII, as far as I know iGo does not use the whole screen on 1280x720 or 800 resolutions yet. I don't understand what the hell they are thinking honestly. Why would you not sell your software on the android market and support it properly? Why force people to pirate it, since that is currently the only way I can have it on my phone? It's sheer idiocy.

Mine never does that, but I have disabled the setting "automatically connect", maybe that's the reason? I've used both iGo and Sygic and Sygic really does it a lot better for me.

iGO is the best IMHO too, but like the OP said (and another guy), 1280x720 is not currently supported, and honestly I don't know if it ever will be as it seems that the development has stopped... in the meantime I recommend Navigon.
I will try CoPilot now...
But from previous experiences for part where i live(Serbia), only iGo had maps that were usable. Will post how it works around here.
I've got the T-Mobile SGS3, and am getting horrible reception.. time without a signal hovers around 30% at home on this phone, where as both my Nexus One and Sensation had no problems whatsoever with signal. Going for WCDMA preferred instead of GSM auto (default out of the box setting) didn't help.. fwiw, I'm getting 3-4 bars of signal on the statusbar.
is anyone else having this issue, or is my phone just a lemon?
Thanks!

Im on sprint, and my signal is piss poor also. Take forever to logon to pandora and forget about watching any videos, impossible. I'm thinking the modern needs an update. What's the sense in having this bad ass phone if we can't even listen to internet radio in peace. I'm going back to my SSG2, and getting my HBO back for lunch
I'm still getting 25-30% time without a signal, just sitting at home.. why is the signal strength for the SGS3 so bad?! Is it a Samsung issue? I've only had HTC android phones before this one.
I'm most likely going to be getting this phone sometime in the near future and wanted to ask if anyone noticed any niggles or other nonsense that sometimes happens with Samsung Android phones (i.e. roaming notification not caring about no longer displaying the message, GPS issues, etc.)
Just quick reviews, mostly I'm looking for the little things that bug people.
Thanks

+1, had a number of smartphones in the past, this one clearly blows all of my expectations away. The only issue I've had is sporadically losing connectivity to my wifi and I'm not sure if it's something I've loaded or a bug from Samsung/Sprint. My kids have the Evo LTE and Iphone 4S and I wouldn't trade for the world.
The best phone yet IMO, yes the only con I have found is data connectivity every once and awhile. LG8 radio seems better than any other. Been running jellybomb rom, superfast. Fastest phone I've owned so far, and I've had um back to the HTC Hero.

This is kinda a crappy year for the fact they are transitioning production processes I'm really hoping the next exynos generation skips a15 all together
