Should i buy the nexus?? Coming from a Photon - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi everyone i just decided to buy a new phone since my Photon 4g has been abandoned by Motorola as they won’t update android no more in this device.
I can sell my cellphone and without investing to much money i can get the GN.
Do you think this is the best phone i can get just spending a little more money?
Greetings!

Wait for the new nexus announcement, rumor has it this month it will be announced.

im in the same predicament, rumors of a new nexus launch are so tempting. i have tmobile so im sure an unlocked nexus will work on my network, just not sure how they will roll this release out

I would wait for the announcement and see if the new Nexus tickles your pickle and if not then get the Galaxy Nexus... It might even be cheaper by then.

Will this phone still be worth getting come November?

I'm due for an upgrade in the near future but unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus has already been around for a while. I don't want to end up with another Dinc situation where I get mine a year late, all the good devs leave and we have little support left.
So do you think (Opinions here people) this phone will still be worth getting when I upgrade or should I go with the next big thing?
A new nexus should be coming out by the end of the year, so my answer would be no.

Depends on the price. This phone is still a nexus and will get the next Android version. The specs for the GN are more than sufficient over the long haul.
Last years nexus has a more up to date version than my current Nexus.

Yeah we will be impatiently awaiting the next nexus. But on the other hand this is a good phone and will serve a lot of people well for a 2 + year life span.

I had my Nexus in hand by November last year so I'd say no do not buy the current one.

If you can afford better then there will be better available by November... in fact there will be better available in a few weeks time when the galaxy s3 comes out.. you won't have to wait until November to find something better than the gnex
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Last Nov, the Nexus S was still around $400 on Amazon (still same price even today ). Hardware wise, this GN will be in better shape comes this Nov than the Nexus S was last Nov.
When the new Nexus comes out, it'll be in $650-700 range again (unless Google decides then to also sell the new Nexus at $399), so this current one at $400 is still a great deal.
Come November I would get the new Nexus.
As others have said... we'll see the next Nexus device in November. Galaxy Nexus will be cheap and still good (enough) though.
The phone will be a year old. Wait for a more recent release.
I think Google needs to stick with imagination technologies gpu's. For lots of reasons, including an apple one.

This phone will be fine by November. Plus, if rumors are correct we won't see a Nexus phone this year, but rather the Nexus tablet. Jelly Bean is said to have "game changing tablet optimizations".

I would wait for the next Nexus. The GNexus will still be a good phone but is kind of sad to see your device outdated one month after you bought it.

Nexus 4 will potentially be released around Dec./Jan. so Id hold off. By then the GNex will have dwindled down to Tier 2 hardware.

Should I get Galaxy Nexus or wait for the next Nexus smartphone

I have Nexus S and software speaking GNex and NS are almost the same, ignoring the few advantages GNex has because of the hardware.
My sister got Galaxy S3 few days ago and now I want a new phone as well lol. Since I'm gonna dump a $***load of money, and I much more prefer Nexus dev phone rather than TouchWiz or anything manufacturer related, should I wait for the next quad core (and better camera, since that 2 things are bugging me about GNex) or buy this one.
I know how having a Nexus rocks, all the roms, tweaks, ports available for my Nexus S are just awesome, so I can imagine what to expect for this one or the future one!
I'm asking this because you guys have it and know it.
I almost ended up buying Note but stores jacked the price here, so no... currently GNex HSPA+ is around 300€ - 350€ here, unlocked. Thanks!

I guess that's the cool thing about a Nexus phone, even when the next one comes out, this one will still be relevant.
It's not like the jump from dual core to quad will be as significant IMO as single to dual.
Such as the GNex can and will leave the N1 and Nexus S in the dust in the following years, the next Nexus will take much longer to leave the GNex in the dust.
Clearly under par GPU on nexus ...wait for the next one and hope its better! Then buy it
Note that the price of the new Nexus could be twice as much compared to the current price of Galaxy Nexus.
But if money is not a problem, buy this, then buy the next Nexus when it comes out
Just wait it out. As good as the GN is, it's not that big of a jump from your current phone.

Advice needed: get a GNEX or wait

Hello, i am an xdanoob. I have been an iphone user for the last 2 years and i feel the time to upgrade and switch to android has finally come, i have always liked to tweak my stuff to get the most out of it ( i build my own PCs etc ) and i am tired of IOS lack of customization. I have read a whole lot on this forum and have narrowed my search to 2 phones, the GNEX and galaxy s3, other stuff like HTC etc is impossible to find in my country ( Argentina ) and even the gnex isn't sold officialy, so you have to get it via import. I also want to buy my cell phone unlocked since i don't want bloatware and carriers here take ages to update OS if they ever update it at all and they don't even sell the gnex...between the 2 phones i like the gnex most ( updates directly from google, no overlap UI, huge dev comunity etc ) and i have tried the s3 in stores and i just don't like how it feels. My only concern with the gnex is that it feels that im buying an outdated phone now that the quadcore era is approaching. Since i am spending big bucks on either phone ( no google play store here nor used at a reasonable price etc ) it will have to last at least 2 years. Should i buy the gnex now or wait till the new nexus and find a way to get my hands on one ( some1 travelling to the US, robbing a bank etc ) for reference unlocked phones here cost roughly 200% of US retail price, for ex: best price i found for a new sealed GNEX right now was 750 dollars.
I know all the info is already out there but i really need advice on this specific situation. Sry for my english and thanks in advance.
EDIT: i finally got it! it arrived today, love it.

Go ahead. I have read all the related threads and the general consensus seems to be: if you can get one really cheap buy one, otherwise wait for the next-gen nexus. <---- since this is not an option available to me i have started a new thread for my ( and i guess everyone living in this region ) specific issue.
But thanks for posting anyway.

Really? This is how we welcome new members? Not exactly a good way to keep a forum going.
To the OP: I think the current Nexus has great development and will continue to even after the next Nexus comes along (whenever that may be). I prefer a non-bloated, "clean slate" device as well, and the Nexus seems to deliver on that experience better than the S3 IMO.

Wait to see what the next Nexus will bring.
This will also lower the prices of the present Nexus by then.
Definitely do not buy one brand new right now. Just wait to see what the specs of the new one will be.
Use your IOS, you won't die if you keep using it for the next 1 ~ 2 months. =)

I agree with everything in the quote post. Welcome to xda. I had a nexus on vzw and switched to sprint. Got an evo 4g lte and selling it to go back to the gnex. I would agree that there will be deving for a long time on it just look at the older nexus phones and they all still have quite a bit of deving for them. No bloat and constant updates available by google means a smooth running phone and the best experience even stock.

You can get great deals on the gnex now. Wait if you want the latest and greatest, but you'll pay over twice as much. The gnex is a great phone, and there are already great roms and mods. A new nexus will take some time before developers have roms and mods. Just some things to consider.

I say: buy. It's such a nice device with A LOT of customization. In my honest opinion it is truly the most beautiful smartphone atm.
When you have an LG device or Samsung or any other than Galaxy Nexus series you will kinda get dissapointed when new devices come out, becuase of better specs, you know. Also it will take longer for software updates.
This is nice about the Nexus. When new devices come out you don't have to worry about your software walking behind, becuase you know you're always the first guy getting new software. And in that case hardware won't matter, at least not to me.
Hope this helped
I just got mine a couple weeks ago from Newegg , got the DOCOMO version unlocked. I first had it on Simple Mobile and would have said wait cause the phone sucks but after switching to AT&T go the phone works perfect and awesome signal and speeds. I'm happy as hell with this phone and development. I have never liked I phone or there software just me though lol feel there made for old people and people who do not know or care about customizing there phone. I also agree with most here about a asop experience. I have had a lot of android phones , HTC, Samsung and etc. And this is my first carrier unlocked and pure Google phone and I have to say I don't think I could ever own a non Google android phone again lol. For the $349 price on Google to me you can't beat this phone right now.

In order to get everything to work correctly on cm10, the devs need to "blindly" port over cm10 as the S3's stock os is not open source. Some files also are from the stock ROM and not cm/aosp so they will not work as well as the aosp ones from the gnex. There will always be bugs with the s3 cm, always.

I just purchased a Nexus from the Play Store yesterday and on the first of October I am getting a Red GS3 from AT&T just because that Red color looks so good and a 148.00 price tag from Sam's Club is not all that bad,as for the contract that is meaningless because I have been with AT&T long before the Cingular days long ago and do not plan on going to any other provider because contrary to popular belief AT&T has been a good fit for me and my wife!!! Had a HTC Vivid and all I can say is man what a crap phone!

Galaxy Nexus now or wait one year?

I have the OG Droid RAZR with grandfathered unlimited data on Verizon. My next upgrade is in May 2014. A local retailer has the Verizon Gnex at only $430 (full price, new.) So I am asking Gnex owners whether you would spring for the Gnex now, if you were in my position, or wait one year to see what's available then. I like my OG RAZR, but the Gnex is appealing to me.

$430 for a Smart Phone is just unbelievable, I personally don't know what I'm going to do when I want to get a new phone ( I currently have a Galaxy Nexus with Unlimited Data). I guess I will be a couple generations behind and wait a good year and a half. I can justify buying a smartphone for $200 dollars. You can actually buy a new Galaxy Nexus on Ebay for $200.00 I would do that if you need a phone right now.
I appreciate everyone's advice. You have some very helpful people in this forum!

Since you like your current phone and not in a hurry; I'd say wait for the Nexus 5. It's unlikely to be revealed on tomorrow's I/O but should be released by November or something, and should come with Android 5, So it's worth the wait and I believe you could get an unlocked version from Google Play Store for less than what you are willing to pay at the moment.
like the person above said, I suggest you wait until the next nexus comes out in November. Plus, $430 for the galaxy nexus is outrageous and you could get it for $200 in craigslist or ebay.

Anyone thinking of getting the new Moto X?

Just wondering everything we know seems to suggest a "nexus" phone really, even if it won't be branded as such. I did not care for the LG version, so I skipped it but I am seriously thinking of upgrading to the Moto X unless the information posted so far turns out to be wrong.
Not on Verizon lol
Edit: for me, I like specs. This phone will not keep my interest with mid range specs. Maybe if I see the software on this phone with the Google optimizations, I might consider. For now, eyes are on a potential Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 smartphone.

I think my power button is going out so I'm sort of in the market for a new phone(thank god for volume wake/navbar screen off). As long as the price below $250, gets better battery life than our GN, I'm in. But I'm also curious if this IS the new nexus or if they'll be releasing another $350 Nexus with better specs later this year.

dancingtortoise, it's not a new Nexus phone: the Nexus 4 will still be in available for sale. We can probably expect a new Nexus phone for Oct-Nov 2013.
Yeah, I like the customization options for it, only thing holding me back (and only by a small bit) is the last year specs. That said, if the price is right then I'll pick it over the Nexus 4 and finally drop Sprint to switch to TMobile. Regardless, the Moto X price I think will be the deciding factor, if it's $200-ish then alot of people will probably get it just based on the hype alone. If it's $300-ish or more then I imagine it will fall more into a niche market.
I started with the original moto droid but I swore off Motorola after I got the droid 3. I was very disappointed. I used a fascinate in between selling the d3 and getting the gnex. The Nexus 4 was too flimsy, heard waaaaay too many horror stories about build quality, easy breaking and lock ups. And anyway the hardware improvements were not a big enough upgrade to me, and I already had the software on my GNex. The hardware upgrades here seem more of an actual upgrade(i like the alleged 32gb option). Even though as before I will have to wait and see, and I will already have the new software upgrades since I am assuming this thing runs 4.3

From everything I have heard, and certainly this has not been confirmed, there will never be another nexus phone on Verizon. Ever. Google was pissed the way Verizon dealt with them on the GNex and supposedly has unofficially said they will never do that again. So at the very least you may want to think of a plan B

And what device on Verizon DOESN'T have a locked bootloader (GNex doesn't count)? The One when/if it hits? Well, if you like the One, go for it. Based on what was released earlier today, the Moto X/Droid line is far from "mid range specs". Hogwash, pure hogwash. The mid range spec thing was a rumor based on rumor. Motorola didn't say that and neither has any carrier. It was assumed because the processor was listed as "dual core" on FCC filings. Further, we haven't really seen the device in action yet. So far it looks like stock Android with a couple of Motorola widgets and some custom icons tossed in here and there along the OS. Looking at Motorola's X8 processor, it seems far from "old". Just because you read "Dual Core" online, it doesn't really mean a whole lot in this case. Is it going to be developer friendly? Probably not. But it depends on what you want. If you want to spend the life of your device flashing buggy roms and waiting for CM XX.XX to finally finish right as the next version of Android comes out so you do it all over again, well, then it's probably not for you. I think the X8 looks very intriguing.
For me, if it runs smooth, fast and lasts as long as my GNex does with my Hyperion then frankly it's a home run. I've always looked to Nexus devices to get the latest updates. Now, with Google's new APK's, that's less of an issue to me. Further, with Motorola having exclusive right's to develop the "Droid" line for Verizon and talks of them slowing down device roll outs, I'm thinking that this might provide opportunities for more updates (Especially with Google having a hand in Motorola now).
Don't like it, don't buy it. Personally, I moved to Verizon for the GNex knowing full well that it might be the only thing remotely close to "Nexus" that the carrier ever got. If it runs smooth with zero lag then that puts it up there with the One, and both will stand above the S4. Looking at a Spec Sheet is right up there with a redneck showing off their belt buckle size. People are duped into buying laggy crappy phones with awesome spec sheets every quarter.
Chase those quad cores that don't even have software and apps optimized to use them.
Do you optimize, bros!?

Noooooooooooo! That might be enough for me to move to another carrier. I just hate to lose my unlimited data.
Wasntv Verizon getting the different versions of the HTC one and S4 with AOSP versions of android on them?

Not sure but even if so, you could always buy a verizon phone, root it and toss pure Android on it You'd have to pay full price for that HTC one. Honestly paying full price for a subsidized verizon contract AND paying full price for a phone would just be silly.

Yeah, just not the moto phones with locked boot loaders That's what made me get rid of my d3. Well I'm happy with my gnex for now, we'll just have to wait and see. I don't see a need to get rid of it for at least another year. Even if we don't get KLP, cm or other ROM devs will keep it going for a bit.

From what I've read around the web.. Nothing official, of course.... The Moto X looks to be similar in specs as the Droid Ultra.
I don't know if Verizon cares or not, but there are a lot of g'nex users keeping their phones due to lack of a satisfactory replacement. Maybe that will put a little pressure on big V to have 1 nexus phone on their service.
Just dreaming....
