Hi,
I am trying to connect my GN2 with my Mac (Mountain Lion) with no success.
I've downloaded most of the apps on the market with no luck...
Does anyone knows a way to see internal and sd card on MAC?
Thanks
Try this: http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Last time I tried I could not figure out a way to use Finder, but this worked in Lion. New phones are supposed to use MTP, and not mass storage, so I guess the Note 2 use MTP. You may need to turn it on in storage settings.

best way to go if you can't get usb to work is transferring over wifi. it's somewhat slow and sucks but it does work! try and ssh or ftp type app form the play store.
I tried with Mountain Lion on my S II with CyanogenMod 9, and that program still works for me. You could check that MTP is enabled.
On ICS (CM9) it is in System settings - Storage - (menu button) - USB computer connection - Media device (MTP)
My Note 2 is sent, so I will check if it works on the Note 2 when I get it. You could try to download Samsung Kies, but I don't know if that will support mounting it.

Samsung Kies works great, but no mounting options...
Once you receive your NOTE 2 and you figure it out, let us know!
Thanks
@na7q - WiFi works, but its very slow

Well, OP has samsung based rom. For sure android file transfer works fine with CM based roms (just remember that my s3 connected to my imac when flashed CM10)
Android file transfer not working with samsung based roms.
Sorry, but you were right. Android File Transfer does not work for my Note 2.
Good news is that it does use MTP, and Windows detects it, so the software on the phone works fine. My main computer is a PC, so I don't need it to connect to a Mac, but if you do than I would suggest to search for MTP, MTP file transfer or similar on the Mac App Store. Finder has no native support, so you need another file manager that does.
Im using goodsync. Works great. Can do a 2 way sync or 1 way with lots of options.

100% solution is here,....
hey guys it really works on my MAC BOOK PRO with OSX Mountain Lion....
- Download the latest version of Samsung Kies: http://www.samsung.com
- Open the downloaded DMG
- Once you have the .Kies20mac_S8173.pkg file window with the "Uninstall.app", right click on the KIES20mac_S8173.pkg and open using "The Unarchiver" and extract to a folder (I created a KIES folder on my desktop)
- From here you will see a file called "contents.pkg", Right click and select "Show Package Contents"
- Double click "Payload", it will create a file called "Payload-2", (at least it did for me)
- double click "Payload-2" and it will create another file called "Payload-2-2"(the payload part seems to have just duplicated so you may only need to do this once. But keep opening until you see the Applications Folder)
- In "Payload-2-2" you'll find the Applications folder, within the Applications folder you'll see the "Kies.app".
- Transfer the Kies.App to the Applications folder and then run Kies.
wooohhhooowww finally it works....
i have also installed ANDROID FILE TRANSFER... and it works like charm....
100% working....
Thanx to GOOGLE.com )

Here's the thing.
I came from another device, and bought Nexus this week.
It's perfect for me,
except one thing which keeps me crazy.
Galaxy Nexus doesn't have SDCard.
It is only nand internal memory, and yes I can live with that just fine since it is big enough.
The problem is, there's no way to mount that internal partition into pc via usb mass storage.
I don't know what it called, but certainly it is not usb mass storage.
Yes I can see my data, copy, paste to it, but it's waaaaaay to slow.. max is only approximately 5 MBps.
And the things got more serious when transfering many many many SMALL files, like photos, or some imagery cache tiles into Galaxy Nexus via usb.
it seems it tooks forever to complete
i tried many computers, many port, many usb cable, the results remain the same.
(i tried it both on ICS stock and JB stock)
(and mount sdcard on both CWM / TWRP does not work too..)
Okay, i decided i can live with that, since no usb mass storage is good thing though.. no need to worry about unplug without safely remove.
BUT the things make me crazy is:
why the heck my photos and pictures date modified is changed into today's date?
it looks bad on gallery, the date arrangements is all wrong because of that.
i tried it by many method, including i make some flashable zip contains my photos and pictures to be flashed into:
/data/media/
(which is the real location of virtual sdcard)
but the date modified still changed, but this time it gets funnier, it says modified on 2008.
is there any way to store photos and pictures from another device into galaxy nexus but keeps the date modified stay intact?
ps:
i tried transfer files via wifi (ftp apps) too.. same results..

thank you very much for recommending it.
i already thanks all your post (it's 20 already)
anyway, you are such good man with knowledge according to all your posts..
LocalSync is the best..!!!
never thought to using it at the first place..
from now on,
i'll use it regulary.
and most importantly, it keeps date modified intact
no date modified changed... :good:
here's what i test, when syncing using Local Sync:
DELETE SCENARIO:
---------
> delete file on phone
> on pc gets deleted too..
> delete file on pc
> on phone gets deleted too..
ADD NEW FILE SCENARIO
---------
> add new file on phone
> on pc file added too..
> add new file on pc
> on phone it's added too.
EDITING / FILE CHANGES SCENARIO
---------
> edit some file on pc..
> it will updated on phone too.
> edit some file on phone
> it will updated on pc too..
EDITING / FILE CHANGES (BUT BOTH EDITED) SCENARIO
---------
> when edit some files, both edited, pc and phone
> the replaced one, is according to the settings (choose pc or phone)
MOVED FILE SCENARIO
---------
> when moving some files into new location (on phone)
> on pc the files will be moved too. it's moved, not doubled on two location.
vice versa.
UNIQUE SCENARIO
---------
> on phone, the file moved into new location.
BUT on pc that file is copied into new location (not moved, so there's two files, original location, and new location),
and the file on new location, pc, has been edited.
> the sync result is, it moved into new location, but there's two files, one is edited, one is the original (renamed into yyyyyy.orig.xxx)
Glad to hear that ..

For me, adb pull & push do not preserve original date and timestamps. However, I find this only an issue for pictures since stock gallery uses this metadata for sorting. Quickpic (available in play store) can fix this by using exif metadata to restore original file date and timestamps.

I realize this post is old so sorry for the bump, but: can Quickpic actually restore and write back the original timestamps? How does this work if so? I'm trying to transfer pictures with the original timestamp for days, see original thread, but so far nothing worked for me.

Yes it can, as long as the pictures have exif metadata.

Use Local Sync
Personally I do not understand why such a simple thing is so difficult with android tablet or phone: keep your files up to date between PC or server and the device. This is so simple with a USB stick or even with exernal drives, even with VPN. Why is this so difficult and painfull with android devices????
I (want) to use our android tablets in meetings or even in the field. So I need a sync tool to keep files up to date on the android device side (PC and/or fileserver is always master).
Android devices = Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) with ICS 4.04 and Samsung Galaxy SIII (with GT-I9300) ICS 4.04.
I have installed Local Sync (from psencik.cz). I can connect the tablet and pairing with the PC. First remark : I notice that the android device (samsung note 10.1 tablet with ICS 4.0) never shows "USB connection" but only "MTP connection". There is simply no USB option available under "wireless and networks > more settings", so it is not possible to cancel MTP.
remark 2: the tablet shows up in Windows Explorer as GT-N8000 and files are accessible (copy, move and delete possible).
So Local Sync is installed but it is no possible to sync files from PC to Android device. About the "directory" settings to set up in the PC and the android device, nothing is clear. When I set the same directory name on both, the directory with all contents on the android device side is simply deleted !
I have seen that you are using "scenarios". How can I set these in Local Sync? is there a specific ini file to be made for this?
Please, help will be greatly appreciated.

I dont even understand that tool. It looks so specific. Is there any FILE MANAGER with timestamp fix?
Omg back to roots.. Years after mass storage was happily introduced, it is dismissed by google plus the timestamps are forced by google. So no way to copy files. Thanks for wasting my time.

yea we all know MTP sucks.
people loves usb mass storage.
it's just dumb, why can't we preserve date modified?
although it can be preserve by some sort of software, like localsync mentioned already, but the end-user thinks it way too advanced for them.
I don't know who started this stupid MTP things, not sure if another device without sdcard using this MTP too or not (iPhone).
it seems it has been a long time since I tried localsync, I should create tutorial for it for today's android version.

And I have a phone without SD card reader, which adds up to the chaos. I already wasted hours on this. After years of efforts to add mass storage to all relevant devices by manufacturers, the Android phone became my only device without this feature.
I finally do this:
1) copy files to SD card.
2) use USB SD microreader to connect to phone via USB OTG (this technology was not yet dismissed by google)
3) install busybox on a rooted system (because google thinks COPY command is so ridiculous to keep by default, while REMOVE and MOVE is ok)
4) cp -a /Removable/USBdisk1 /sdcard
It is even very fast but not visible. I have to keep the screen on all the time otherwise USB gets disconnected (another genius designed this).
If google wants to be similar to microsoft in treating people, they can end up having similar market share in the end..

is it on terminal emulator?
yes usb otg speed is quite fast (also fast-draining battery too),
i tried copying it with solid explorer, but the date modified still changed.
maybe i should try it by terminal command like you suggest.

found the (so-called) solution...
--- PRESERVING DATE MODIFIED ON NEXUS DEVICE ---
From Android to PC: Use MTP
From PC to Android: Use Droid Explorer
cheers..
Successfully moved all my GNex photos to my N5 and preseve file created/modified date
I'm not going to lie, this was painful - but I think I've worked out the kinks.
Required:
- Source Device
> USB OTG Capable
- Destination Device
> USB OTG Capable
> Rooted
- PC (Win7x64 for me)
> ExifTool
> Bulk File Changer
- USB Stick
- OTG Cable/Connector
Steps:
1) Copy media (jpgs, 3gps, mp4s) from source device to USB stick via OTG. This could take a while depending on how much media you're copying. Don't worry about preserving the created/modified date here as you'll be fixing it on the PC using the embedded EXIF data.
1.5) While the above is happening, place ExifTool and Bulk File Changer in the following folder on your PC C:\filecreatedatefix
2) Cut and Paste the media from the USB stick over to the following folder on your PC C:\filecreatedatefix\files
3) Run the following 3 commands (one at a time) to change the created date and modified date stamps on the files to the created date in the embedded EXIF data.
C:\filecreatedatefix\exiftool "-FileCreateDate<CreateDate" "-FileModifyDate<CreateDate" -ext .jpg -r C:\filecreatedatefix\files
C:\filecreatedatefix\exiftool "-FileCreateDate<CreateDate" "-FileModifyDate<CreateDate" -ext .3gp -r C:\filecreatedatefix\files
C:\filecreatedatefix\exiftool "-FileCreateDate<CreateDate" "-FileModifyDate<CreateDate" -ext .mp4 -r C:\filecreatedatefix\files
3.5) Any files that still aren't fixed need to be done so manually using Bulk File Changer
4) Cut and Paste the media back to the USB stick in a folder like D:\Camera
5) Plug the USB stick via OTG Cable into the Destination Device and then open a terminal window
6) Type "su" (no quotes) to enter root user mode
7) Archive copy the files from the USB stick over to the destination directory using a command like the following
cp -a /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1/Camera/* /sdcard/DCIM/Camera
This could take a while depending on how much media you're copying.
8) You're done! You may need to restart the destination device in case plugging/unplugging a USB stick destabilizes it.

Thank you thank you.
I've been looking for something like this for a long time. It doesn't work on everything, like videos and files without without the EXIF data.
But this is definitely nice to have.
omg, strugled throug that issue on my way from my nexus 5 to my OnePlus One...
Did it that way:
1. Copied all Images to my Mac
2. Sorted all Files by modified date (oldest first) with automator (see attachment)
3. Copied the output (list of files with full path in order of modification) into a TXT-File
4. Used a small perl script to push each file by "adb push" to my phone.
5. Now the order is okay, of course the modification date is gone again but because the oldest file was pushed fist it's still the oldest, even when only by seconds.
Here is my Script:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
use strict;
use warnings;
my $filename = 'files.txt'; #change files.txt to your txt-file
open(my $fh, '<:encoding(UTF-8)', $filename)
or die "Could not open file '$filename' $!";
while (my $orig = <$fh>) {
chomp $orig;
my $phone = $orig;
$phone =~ s/\/Volumes\/HDD OSX\/TEST/\/storage\/sdcard0/g; # here you build the path on your phone from the path on your computer
system("./adb push \'$orig\' \'$phone\'");
}
[/script]

Note 2 XXALJ1 , Mac OS X 10.8.2
file transfer between mac and phone is horrible.
this a list of options I attempted
0 : Android File Transfer
useless
neither MTP option nor camera PTP work for me
(works with my Nexus 7, so it's not broken)
1 - Kies on Mac:
very clumsy interface for generic file transfer
BUT
can decide location (sd versus phone)
USB connection works and is fast.
queues multiple transfers, so suitable for transferring few large movies.
2 - Airdroid app.
wifi not usb speed
clumsy browser interface for multiple file transfer
does not support the external sd card as a target
3 - SSHdroid on phone + macfusion
WiFI not usb speed
quite often mounts in read-only. could not figure why
needs two distinct macfusion entries for sdcard and internal
OSX finder interface for file management is better than airdroid
with pathfinder you also get to queue file transfers
4 - AltMounter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626713
does not work for me
5 - Mount inside a VM
I tried with the virtualbox hypervisor -
could not get windows xp guest to load mtp drivers
with a ubuntu 12.04 guest it worked. so then the guest could access the mac files via ssh or shared folder
however the overall speed was disappointing.
has anyone done better ?
Thanks. I'd like to know other options as well.
Yep, Android File Transfer not working here either. It worked perfectly on the Note I when connected as Camera PTP.
Looks like I'll have to give Mac Kies a try.
PROGRESS!! MTP connection with Mac
I uninstalled Heimdall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32567113&postcount=1566
I uninstalled Kies (you need to download the Kies dmg again)
http://www.jrtstudio.com/iSyncr/UninstallKies
restarted mac & phone
1) use the iSyncr app
was able to connect my Note II via USB
(previously it detected it but failed to communicate)
and transfer files to either the phone or my ext sd card
2) I re-tried AltMounter (see my original post)
and it mounted the phone memory only under /Volumes/Android device
after unmount it did not work again - it is admittedly not yet completely stable.
I'll keep that as option B
---------
So after importing a large subset of my ITunes from the mac to the extSD card,
using iSyncr over USB I plan to reinstall the ugly :crying: Kies and my strategy will be
- using kies to usb-copy individual large files (eg movies)
- using iSyncr only over wifi (I expect iSyncr not to work when Kies is installed)
for playlist synch and small music transfers
-using airdroid over wifi for occasional other transfers
Still not optimal but second best for now.
I remain puzzled that MTP connection works with iSyncr and with Kies but not with Android File Transfer.

Thanks for all your trial and error, edo. Kies works OK for my purposes for now I guess.
What a pain this is.
Unfortunately the MTP Application has stopped.
I started to get this message "Unfortunately the MTP Application has stopped." in a popup anytime I plugged in the phone.
Neither Kies not iSyncr could connect any longer via USB.
I did some extensive searches but did not find good info.
At long last, I reset the phone to the factory default - what a pain, just made it easier by having all important data on te external sd card -
and immediately then Kies connected again.
I think the MTP implementation at this stage is still not very robust.
Shame Google/Samsung removed the old USB mass storage option.
This is my only gripe with the phone. Costed me too much time and still I haven't got Finder access to the phone storage as hierarchical file system. Almost like iOS !!!!
Samsung's recommended option EasyPhoneSync works perfectly for me.
http://easyphonesync.com/en/
But it's only for syncing music. For basic file transfer I just stick the SD card in the macs card reader.
I cant get Android File Transfer to work, but iSyncr works just fine with the phone set as MTP mode.
Hope this helps.....if anyone get find out how to solve the Android File Transfer issue then please share!
Not easy the live of Mac User with Android ... i'm in the same case of you
I wish a good app for this use !!!
Considering that both iSyncr and Kies can work using the MTP connection
Google should sort its Android File transfer app out.
It's worth noting that if you peek inside the 3 Mac apps iSyncr, Kies and Android File Transfer you'll
find some files related to usb / mtp that have the same name (forgot what) in the 3 apps but are different versions.
That's why probably why iSyncr cannot work if Kies is installed (Kies has a couple of background processes that keep polling for a phone IIRC).
So why what is the best way for us mac users to connect our note 2 with our Macs in usb? Right now I'm kinda stucked with Airdroid

For large transfers I wanted to use USB and so I gave in to the horrible kies.
But I am not using its synchronization features, or its library at all. The last thing I want is yet another library to maintain.
If you click on the folder icons (see screenshot attached) you can then drag and drop from the Finder to the small window.
For normal transfers I just use airdroid.
For music playlist synchronization I like iSyncr
For me I used to use Airdroid, but now i have given up and just stick the sd card into the card reader....not the ideal situation. And i agree with the OP Andriod File Transfer should be sorted out ASAP.

You are correct - I can navigate to the extSD card using the files icon.
The speed upload shortcut does not offer the ext sd card as a target though.
it'd be great if airdroid offered something like a favorite shourtcuts list.
Will suggest it
Half Solution
Hi,
I tried with this app and it seems to work well, but only for the external SD.
I've been able to mount and copy files with my Lion Macbook

hey guyss found the soliution.... everything woks 100% now..
Thanx to GOOGLE.com

Hi Raman
that solution for Kies on Mountain Lion that you can still find via google is obsolete.
That was developed to get Kies to install and work on Mountain Lion when initially the new OS came out.
If you had read my post, you'd have seen that the current Kies does install and work.
it is currently version kies20mac_s9999.pkg not Kies20mac_S8173.pkg
In fact the solution you reposted only avoids installing the ssuddrv.kext kernel extension that was incompatible once,
but currently works. Actually - following the obsolete instructions makes Kies NOT recognize the Galaxy Note 2
You must have had a good ssuddrv installed anyway by some other package, that's why it works for you.
As of today,
Android File Transfer just works internal & external SD - after I uninstalled the now-unneeded Kies
Note - I re-downloaded the dmg.

Yup, AFT working. lol :good:
I desisntalled Kies, desintalled Android File Transfert, reinstalled it (downloaded it yesterday), but got the same message when I plug the Note II : Could not connect to the device.
I'm on OSX 10.7.5 and it's a Stock ROM (MTP seems to work with alternative ROM but not with samsung's one)
It seems I can't transfer files via Android File Transfer. On another note (haha pun), I can't believe anytime I want to access my storage I need to load this oddball program, which doesn't even work. I miss USB mass storage.
When I try to copy a file, it tells me "Could not replace file, could not copy file (filenamehere)." This is so frustrating.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
Thanks.
I too am having problems tranfering file to and from the computer. Whats frustrating is that I did not have this problem when I got the note2.
Same problem on the Mac. Had to boot into my windows side. Quite annoying if you ask me
Samsung Galaxy Note II
I have no problem transferring files running latest version of OSX on a mbp... The only time I see any error is if my screen is locked when I connect it, I have to make sure it's unlocked when i connect it for the file transfer program to work. It sees the phone and sd card perfectly fine. I see many people on int version complaining of this too but worked first time for me.
Regurgitated From My Giant Note II
When I connect to my PC, my Note shows up as "SPH-L900". Phone icon, but I can click it to open and use just like any other folder. Absolutely no issues whatsoever moving files to/from sd card.
Do you have the Samsung drivers installed?
I can't copy or move files from the device either. I am able to copy/move files to the device.
Running Windows 7 64-bit with Samsung drivers installed.
I was really hoping to get some expert insight on this... I am bummed... I can't even get this to work on Mac or windows... what's the deal with this MTP stuff?
Samsung Galaxy Note II
I can't even notice a difference when using the mtp. Phone shows up under my computer and when i double click i can see the external and internal sd cards. I just go on with business as usual...
What kernel are you guys using?
The new Perseus kernel seems to have fixed this issue for me.

FIX?
hi guys.. I had this same problem trying to use android file transfer from my 2013 nexus 7 to macbook air.
I remembered I had a password set to access ES FILE EXPLORER on my Nexus 7 and opened the app, typed in my password and that made the trick... No more problems transferring from my Nexus 7 to the Macbook air. Tested with a 800 mb mp4.
Use ADB to transfer on OSX
I know this thread is old, but I just happened upon it. I am using OSX mountain lion, and could not transfer to my mac using the OSX Finder GUI. However, there is a workaround…. ADB PULL! (Note: this is nothing fancy/special, its just using command-line utilities instead of GUI and Android File Transfer)
**You must have ADB installed (Google, its not very hard to install it)**
1. Connect via USB
2. Disable MTP on your phone
3. open terminal and enter:
Code:
adb pull YOURFILENAME LOCATIONONCOMPUTER[optional]

My point was for people for whom android file transfer wasn't working.
Why so defensive? Anyways good point!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk
I received the message "Could not copy file [filename]" and "your phone is locked" (dont remember exact wording) from the Android File Transfer app when trying to transfer a file.
The file size was small. The filename didn't seem to matter BUT i have to say: I got 3-4 successive failures with the original filename - which contained a few brackets and parentheses, but then was successful on the first attempt with a renamed file containing no special characters. But later, I was able to copy using the original filename.
Sometimes after unplugging/replugging the phone back in to restart Android File Transfer, I'd see the file appear in the location I copied it to even though it gave me an error earlier.
This did not happen consistently - sometimes it'd work normally, sometimes it'd work but appear to fail with an error, and sometimes it would just fail with an error. The phone was unlocked and on the home screen at all times.
Pretty strange. This is with Nexus 5 stock rom on 4.4.3, Android File Transfer 1.0.50.2266.
Is there any way how to connect I9195 as a USB mass storage device to the computer, not only as "media device" or "camera"?
You could try SG USB Mass Storage Enabler from Google Play.
It works properly in my GT-I9195.
It needs rooted phone
I don't think there is any other way except to root it.

I didn't notice that SG USB Mass Storage Enabler is marked in Play Store as incompatible with GT-I9195.
However, in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888 there are alternative links to this app.

Link to the version 1.3 is in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41997991&postcount=15
In order to obtain version 1.4 just change "SamsungUSBMassStorageEnabler_1.3.apk" into "SamsungUSBMassStorageEnabler_1.4.apk" in link in that post.

Did you roll back all old drivers, remove them in registry.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882942
Also, if you get the MTP error after this, go to device manger "type it in start"
Go to View
Select Hidden Driver
Go To Non_Plug and Play Drivers
Right Click on Hardware Policy Driver
Go To Driver Tab,
Stop this device
and Disable it
Restart Windows ( unplug phone first, disable network card also)
Disable WiFi or network card, (double tap)
Plug in Phone
Allow windows to load the drivers on your phone.
(don't stop this at all)
Look for phone.
Later you can add updated drivers if you would like. Remember windows keeps all old drivers, even if its jacked up. PnP will still run.
This works on Vista and above. haven't tested it on XP.
IMPORTANT
U must re-enable the change to the device manager after this, or each time you reboot it will reload the drivers.
Also if you want to search for old pics (assuming they were on your external card if you had one)
Use Recurva. To do this you will need a mini USB to card reader. They make them as UBS and camera card style. Then mount and recover. If not you got to rip open your phone, take out the HD, and using the correct connector, (use by) get a drive enclosure. It will mount the HD as a external flash drive. But only do this if you don't want the phone anymore.
later and I hope it helps

So what is the trick if this has been ticked the whole time but still won't show up? I've glot CM 10.2, MTP is checked, when plugged in the laptop it shows up at the bottom on the task bar & then when I right click it says Nexus 7.
My device shows up under devices & printers, but not under computer when clicking the start menu on the PC & clicking computer. My HDD, DVD drive & SD card all show up, but no N7 so I can't transfer files.
Am I missing something else?

Please elaborate a bit. What I understood is :
Nexus 7 doesnot show up like an SD card etc but as a mobile device yet you can not transfer stuff ?
It doesnot show up like a drive. For me, on Windows 7, it shows up like a mobile device in other devices with the name "Nexus 7". If i click it , I get into the internal memory. You can not rename folders or transfer files within Nexus(as it is used by the Nexus itself so it can not be changed). However, try copy a file from PC to your nexus. Does that work? If yes, that is perfectly normal. Use a file explorer like ES file explorer to rename and transfer files within Nexus. But Es file explorer has some bugs with JB 4.3 esp with extracting a rar file.
If this doesnot solve it, I remember there was also some settings for it. I can not remember though as I havenot used the latest CM 10.2.

So the first picture is of devices. You can see the N7 is shown, but clicking it only takes me to the info about the device. No way to transfer stuff. Right clicking gives me eject, troubleshoot, properties.
The second is the windows section where it shows the HDD, etc. No N7. I was expecting it to show up to be able to transfer files from computer to the device as in a mass storage device. I did this with the last one where I could see everything on the device.
I have a 600mb file I want to transfer to the tablet & was expecting to just copy it over.

I am attaching my pictures how I see my nexus when it is connected. You do not see Nexus 7 if it is not connected properly or not enabled from Nexus settings.
Does your device charge when you connect to the PC ?
Does your device connect in USB debugging mode ?
Further, go into device manager in My computers and see if there are any question marks on any device? Make sure your device is connected at that time.
Try to connect it to different port or without USB hub if you are using as sometimes, devices do not show up.
Moreover, try to connect your device to the PC and then tick on MTP and then change few options like connect via different methods and see if any usb connection is seen ?
Also, close all other mobile softwares in the background and taskbar (Kies, Sony PC companion, LG, Nokia PC suit) and then try connecting it.
They are many a times culprits. Even try uninstalling their drivers and programmes.
IF USB DEBBUGGING WORKS AND CHARGING, DRIVERS ARE PERFECTLY INSTALLED IN THE PC
YOUR PROBLEM SEEMS TO ME FROM NEXUS SETTINGS.
IT SIMPLY COULD BE A BUG AS CM is still nightly
I hope this helps

May be a CM bug. I just connected my Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.2 AOKP & I just transferred files from my phone to computer.
The N7 is connected, charging, debugging works, etc. So i'll keep waiting to see what the deal is with each new CM install.
I do appreciate all of the suggestions. Should have tested it on CleanRom before flashing CM to see if it was working then.
I am having the same problem with cleanrom
