[Q] MHL cable = 3G signal loss? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all,
A friend and I both got SGS3's within the last couple of weeks - mine's VZW, theirs is Sprint, both 100% unrooted, bone-dry-stock (for now). I noticed some really strange behavior, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience or thoughts on what might be going on.
Anyway, when the MHL cable is plugged into my phone, everything works as expected, however, plug it into my friend's Sprint device, and the video output works, but within moments the data connection drops and then the signal is lost altogether.
I'm not sure what the deal is, at all, and probably wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it, and test it several times myself. My best guess is that because the 3G signal wasn't super strong in the first place, induction in the MHL cable caused enough interference to drop the signal all together (though going from 3 or 4 bars to X, may suggest otherwise). I may try wrapping the cable through a ferrite core or something to see if that helps out... but that's kinda a shot in the dark.
I spent a few minutes searching around, but I'm wondering if anyone has any additional thoughts or experience with this kinda thing.

Happens on 2x Sprint GSIII's that I've owned. Now Im not sure if it's a hardware issue or not.

[Q] Radio/Antenna Repair Issue

Dear folks,
One night I reached out my hand while sleeping, touched a glass of water (which fell over) and my Galaxy Nexus GSM got wet. In the morning I dried it (*no* hair dryer, just a vacuum cleaner and a radiator), and it still works like a charm. With few exections: Almost no signal anymore. Most often no signal, sometimes weak signal, rarely full H+ speed.
In my flat I have no radio at all (-110db if that matters). No speech, no data.
Outside I may have luck, I may not. Sometimes I get almost full HSDPA+ as stated, but most of the times with "standard" covering just no signal or a really really weak one, where my old HTC Hero (T-Mobile H2 Touch) and my work phone (Nokia 31xx) have full(!) radio signal. Embarassing.
Speaker was damaged, too. So was the USB port (not charging when switched on, no sound, wrong headset recognition).
I decided to repair it myself. I did this before many times with my old Nokia 3310, and ifixit.com suggested, it's not that hard. So I went to eBay and bought a new speaker part (that more bulky part at the bottom of the disassembled phone).
Well, this fixed the speaker/headset and the USB issue. Hooray! But my radiosignal was still bad.
So today, I replaced the antenna mainboard (L-Shaped). Well, this fixed… nothing at all. I still got bad radio (at least it's not broken down completely). Now I wonder: What could I do next? Flasing radio firmware has no effect either (I think, I tried three or so). Is it really because it got wet? Sth else to replace?
I'm looking forward to any suggestions on what to do next. If you need any information, just ask.
Thanks in advance.
I'm sorry I can't provide pictures atm, but I only wrote 5 posts or so.

Sam Cap Glide Won't Charge, Need New Phone

Well..did some research about 7 months ago or so, got two of these phones. One for the GF and one fore me, shortly after the rom output slowed down but there were already a few good options so it worked out well in the end. But I thought I was getting a better phone than I did. Recently my phone has decided it does not like to charge anymore, but intermittently will charge. I had it plugged in all night last night, charged 8% at some point. Most of the time, it wont' detect the charge cable is plugged in..PC shows an error when trying to install drivers. I have tried a new battery, without Sim card, cleared data and all caches and tried a Rootbox which it's had from the day I got it and the newer CM 10.1 r2..no change.
So I am calling this phone junk unless someone has any suggestions. I am kind of SoL financially and really don't have more than $150 to spend, maaaaybe $200 if the phone is going to be substantially more durable. I'll miss the screen, power and camera on the Glide I know..but it is what it is..I'll save it as a parts donor for her phone. I am on Straight Talk which recently went Verizon towers in my area as well and seems that's also the trend for the phones they're selling in my area so it seems maybe I'm more limited to their selection as well? Anyways, need a new phone and have a tight budget..can you please give me some suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Have you tried a different Rom, cable, battery or usb port? In my experience, a new cable and battery did the trick, also tightening up the tension ears on my usb ports.

Sad to have to say but that'll be your charging port failing. Tends to happen seemingly easier with micro usb since it's so much smaller... but I have seen this same issue happen with micro usb ports on a number of devices. You could probably get it repaired for a reasonable cost, actually. Try contacting your service provider, or finding a place that repairs electronics.

[Q] Toro: Intermittent CDMA/1x after MicroUSB repair

Hey guys, like many Toro owners, I had my MicroUSB port finally go out on me. Followed unfortunately shortly after a tumble caused by a cousin just giving my phone to her 3 year old to play with at a family holiday party. This resulted in the screen being cracked all to hell, as one could imagine. In a stupidly rushed attempt to repair the screen glass with a spare piece I had from a friend, I messed up the digitizer, and decided to get a new screen assembly and start over. Unfortunately, after ordering both parts and starting to install both, I realized the mUSB board was no good and had to be exchanged. I slapped the old one back on, installed my screen, and went about my day.
The second time around, I actually remembered how to work on computers and went through my whole usual litany of prep and breakdown. Bled off all my static charge, made a mostly sterile work area, worked in gloves when I could, and proceeded slowly and carefully through the phone teardown. I made sure (to attempt) not to damage any ribbon connectors or even the LTE antenna coax cable and both ports for it.
All this only to notice a short time later that I was having poor call quality, call drops despite a couple of bars, random signal drops, all those good times. This was all with mobile data turned off entirely, but when I turned on mobile data, it hit straight to 4G full service and data was snappy and page loads/searches were fast. However, I cannot tell if it is area signal strength or phone error, but I'm inclined to believe I may have messed something up either in my first botch job, or in my second serious repair.
If there was any repair errors, I'm inclined to believe one of a few things happened. Either I screwed up one of the in-frame antennas the first time around, putzing about trying to pry the old screen off the frame. Or I somehow cocked up one of the CDMA antennas on the mobo itself the second time, but I find that very hard to believe. Or the old mUSB board with it's mic got screwed up, but I highly doubt that too.
Anyone have any ideas, further questions, or (preferably non) snide comments? I've tried to give as many details as possible in this post without overloading it, but let me know if I've left out anything useful. Yet again, it's a Toro, 32gb, running SlimKat's 4.4-1825 weekly. (Can't remember build date right now, and phone's in pieces again for visual verification/pictures)
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks!

[Q] Poor data/signal after repairing charing port.

Okay, so last night I successfully replaced the charging port on my Note 2. It wasn't malfunctioning, it was just extremely loose and was hard to keep a charging cable in.
Before putting the device back together I made sure the antenna cable and all other cables were plugged in and snug.
Since the repair , my device seems to be getting horrid data. Normally I would get LTE speeds of 20mbps+ up and about 10 down, now I'm getting 5mbps down and about .05mbps up....
The signal in the status bar goes from LTE to 3g and DC (cyanogen mod, not sure what that means).
The first night I didn't notice any problems as I was at home and connected to my home WiFi network. But when I woke up the signal was awful. I can make calls and text sometimes, in some area the signal bar has an X over and has no signal at all.
Has anyone experienced this or have an idea of what might be wrong?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!
P.s. the replacement part was specifically for my device, t889.
Okay, so this morning I downloaded and flashed the most recent modem for my phone and the signal strength seems stable, LTE download speeds are around 25 to 30mbps and my signal isnt constantly switching around. However the upload speeds are still around .01 - .05 mbps which is nothing compared to my old speeds of around 5mpbs - 7mbps.
I honestly have no idea how the hardware interacts in the phone, but would the charging port that I replaced possibly be faulty? I know the antenna cable plugs into it, and it has me thinking there is some part on it that is malfunctioning. But all this is just a guess.
I'd really appreciate any feedback.
Thank you.

I can have wifi or a working headphone port (and sometimes neither!). Why?

Perhaps someone with more electrical engineering know-how can answer.
It's almost certainly a hardware issue. I don't know if it's the cable I'm using, some grounding issue, or what, but the problem is really annoying.
Full disclosure, I have a tmobile/at&t motherboard inside a N7105. I swapped it over last fall-ish because the N7105 motherboard developed a sleep of death problem that persisted through every rom I put on there, and even occurred when I was in recovery. Whatever, I can't get LTE on tmobile with this phone anyway, which is why I acquired a tmobile motherboard to swap in.
Perhaps it was always a problem, since I rarely use the headphone port. I got an unpleasant surprise a couple months ago when I tried- nothing but static through headphones. Long story short, it's apparently some grounding issue? I followed the recommendations in that post. I still needed to smack it a little before it would work. But it more or less solved the issue.
I've been having wifi problems recently, and it may or may not be a consequence of the above issue. My wifi would simply stop detecting wifi signals. It would stop connecting, and then the wifi settings would eventually realize that it couldn't see any networks at all. Turning the wifi on/off or rebooting wouldn't bring it back. I keep solving this by disassembling my phone (poor thing, it's been disassembled so many times in the past month), letting it sit for a bit, and reassembling it. I'm slowly working out that putting screws in any slot other than right by the wifi antenna would eventually result in the lost wifi. It does work to bring the wifi back, and anything less doesn't. I don't know why. It might be a contact issue, but I can't see any difference between this and the N7105 motherboard.
In any case, this means that whatever grounding connection needed to make the headphone port work just isn't happening. That's fine, I still have my trusty rockboxed ipod.
But the wifi problem persists, and it's completely absent in the N7105 motherboard (but sleep of deeeeaaaaath). It could be that the Anker 10ft cable I recently got is no good or allowing too much electrical noise through or something. Maybe it doesn't like being charged too quickly. The wifi problems do occur more frequently when I use the Anker cable to charge.
To be honest, I'm not holding out much hope for a solution. The phone is three years old, and even if I could have happily continued using it for another year or so, it is starting to show its age. I've been browsing Note 4s on ebay. It might be time for a change.
The motherboard in the ATT (i317) and Tmobile (t889) are not identical to the n7105 which may be part of the issue.
I have also read posts where XDA members had replaced their USB charging port and flex cable and would up with no cell signal and wifi.
Maybe the USB port/cable in the needs to be changed too?
I'm not sure if the motherboard is an issue, since I've used it in this configuration for months with no problems.
In any case, I've stopped using my 10ft Anker cable to charge, and as long as I leave most of the screws out, the wifi behaves. I don't know if it's electrical noise, more grounding issues, static electricity, or what. It's not ideal, but it's better than no wifi.
